I called in the morning; they arrived early afternoon. See above for Jim's activities. He was courteous, took the time to explain the problem and what it would take to fix the heat pump. He was efficient and very professional. As my heat pump is old, he told me what I might expect and when to purchase a new one, without being hard sell.
Description of Work: Jim McMahon quickly diagnosed why my heat pump (all electric) was not running, showed me the burned-out capacitor, and just as quickly replaced it. He also replaced the filter.

Mike took the time to find out what I knew about the problem and expected it to be the circuit board instead of the fan. My heater is in my attic, and they put down a drop cloth before bringing their ladder to go the ceiling door. After 5 minutes Gary determined the circuit board blew a relay. Fortunately they had one in their van, and after a few minutes the heater was fully functional again. There was a small misunderstanding about the scheduled time. When we called to make the appointment, we were told someone would be at our house Monday morning. At noon when I called, their records said the appointment was in the afternoon; however, Mike and Gary were able to be at our house within 30 minutes.
Description of Work: They were called to find out why my heater fan wouldn't turn on. We called them on Saturday and they arrived on Monday.

The serviceman came out, calling before, and was prompt, courteous, and quite efficient. He also was able to check my cooling system, and my knowing that it had not been serviced before, he charged the system to its proper levels, checked everything very thoroughly, and left me a satisfied customer.
Description of Work: There was no heat coming from my furnace, although it sounded as if it were working. The electronic pilot would not start.

I called to see if they could do the job and the woman who answered told me that I would have to come down to the shop between 7 & 8 am to see John, their sheet metal fabricator. I got there the next business day at 7:30, but John had already gone out on a job. I talked with Gary, who listened to what I needed, took my measurements, suggested it might be best to have John install as well as fabricate the duct. I got a call from John that afternoon, and we arranged for him to visit the house the next day. John called an hour early to let me know when he would be here, showed up promptly with pre-fab-ed pieces and was able to do the installation in 15 minutes. He was friendly, professional, quick and tidy.
Description of Work: Fabricated and installed a section of duct work for my kitchen exhaust fan.

A company representative assessed my old system then discussed options for the new system. He was very knowledgeable and able to clearly answer my questions and explain the pros and cons of various configurations and materials. Once I decided on exactly what I wanted, he gave me a very clear and thorough quote for the job. He encouraged me to call with any questions that might come up, and when I did call several days later with questions that arose while I got other estimates, carefully explained what I needed to understand. Execution of the work took a little under two days. The workers were polite and friendly, explained what they were doing and were very open to fielding questions. They laid protective cloths through the house, wherever they would be carrying materials and at the end of each day, tidied up thoroughly. At the end of the job, they made sure I had the appropriate owner s manuals and gave me clear instruction on how to use my new heating system. A company representative called me a few days later to assess my level of satisfaction with the work and check to see if I had any unresolved questions.

I've already told the whole story. But it went very well overall. They came out promptly, and installed the furnace promptly. They did great work.
Description of Work: Came out within a couple of days to take a look at my furnace & why my pilot light would not light. He said that he could maybe replace a part, but that my furnace was so old he wasn't sure it would work. He suggested I buy a new furnace, and he had one at a very good price, a deal that they had at the time. He explained that the furnace itself would be smaller, but would be more powerful and much more efficient. He also said that they would have to custom-craft the attachment between the furnace and the vent pipe. A few days later, the worker came out with an assistant and installed the furnace with the new part and a new digital thermostat. It took them a couple of hours on a Saturday.

The furnace blower stopped working one cold evening. After verifying all the circuits were good (no blown breakers, etc), I called AAA Furnace and A/C. They gave me an appointment for the following day. (One night in the cold.) The tech arrived on time and was professional. After getting up into the attic and running a few tests, he determined it was just the starter capacitor on the blower motor that failed. He replaced it and was done in less than an hour.
Description of Work: Replaced the starter capacitor on the blower motor.

They showed up on-time, were very fast, did more than requested, and charged a reasonable amount. A pleasant contrast to the other geniuses who put me off twice and tried to convince me I needed a whole new system before even diagnosing the issue!

It was an excellent experience. The cost was reasonable. They came when they said they would come. They said it would take about four days and it took exactly that. We were very pleased with their professionalism and the quality of the work. They had to install a new vent for the furnace and the first time it rained it was looking. We called them and they came out and fixed it. We just had another rain storm and it seems to be just fine.

They gave me a window of 10-2 to come out and said they will call first. Not only did they give me this window, but actually they gave me a choice of 3-4 different windows of time they could come out. They called at 10:15 and got to my home by 10:30. My circuit board had burned out. There are 2 fans in the heater and 1 of them burnt out. They fixed this, he had the part with him. He then noticed the filter was not in correctly and he installed a strap in so that the filter cannot fall back into the furnace like it had. I thought that was wonderful for him to do for me. He finished all of this in under an hour. After he finished all of the repairs, he did wait to make sure the repairs did work. He was really nice and I would definitely use them again.
Description of Work: My furnace was not putting out heat, I called several people from Angie's List and chose AAA Furnace & Air Conditioning to come out and do the repair work.

This was my first time using this company. They came when they said they would and also called right before arriving. The technician was professional and courteous. He diagnosed the problem and we discussed whether (given the age of the furnace) it would be better to replace the whole thing or just fix the problem. He checked the other components for me so we could make an informed decision. He replaced the motor quickly and tested everything. He left everything very clean. I would definitely use AAA again.

They did a wonderful job. Jim (the owner) provided an accurate estimate and very good advice on choosing the best solution. He is an expert on this stuff. They did the job in 3 days and were very professional. The quality of work is very satisfactory. They also cleaned up after each day's work. The digging beneath the crawl space was tough, but they did a good job with no complaints. Very nice guys. I was also pleased that they stuck to the original estimate and I paid exactly what was quoted-very straightforward. I like to deal with guys like this. I would highly recommend them.
Description of Work: Removed old furnace and ducts (asbestos) and installed a whole new heating system in the crawlspace, which required digging a 1 to 2 foot hole.

A large man arrived the next day after my request to have someone look at the air ducts under the house to determine the problem. After checking various heat vents around the house, he informed me that he was too large to get under the house and a crew of smaller men would have to come. He estimated that it would take them 1/2 day ($165/hr plus mat'l.) to fix the problem (which he never saw). He charged me $120. for that but said it would apply toward the job if I hired them to do it. Later when I complained to the company for sending out someone who could not get under the house to see the problem, the manager said because of my dissatisfaction, he would allow $60. toward the job (not knowing that the service man had told me that the total of $120. would apply toward the job.) They said they would have to call me back. I got a message on my phone the next day saying that the $120. would apply.
Description of Work: I was not getting heat in two rooms. I requested someone to come & look at the air ducts under the house to determine the problem. He claims to have cleaned the filter but there are still cob webs on it. NO work was completed.

Did some homework on hvac-talk forum because I had no idea how to think about accomplishing my goal: replace 25 year old furnace with quiet and efficient model and bring on an air cleaning system. Originally thought I needed to look at 95% model - but after going to the PG&E site - calculating usage vs price variances decided an 80% would provide sufficient improvement over older model and save some money (even after all potential rebates) for better return on electrical improvements. I contacted 2 contractors highly rated here on Angie's - found out that Trane seems to be favored in our area because of easy parts availability. Pricing was slightly more favorable with AAA but between the 2 but Jim from AAA physically went into the attic to inspect the vents to make sure no sign of leakage, and included moving the thermostat away from furnace closet so we could get a more accurate read. The April Aire5000 latest model is just released with the external controls (we can turn off independent of the furnace in case it should irritate our daughter's lungs when she is home) - and there was a little hesitation with the second vendor quoted to use --- maybe he had an older model on the shelf??? - that is just a guess. We are a few days into usage and are very pleased! Plus AAA took credit card so I get points!
Description of Work: Replaced our furnace with Trane XV80 gas burning furnace - 80% efficiency rating of a 2-stage variable speed 80,000 BTU; white rogders digital thermostat; relocated thermostat across and down the hallway; replaced original w/ 4" double wall flue; April Aire 5000 electronic air cleaner w/ one-touch thermostat controls installed on hallway wall; city permit; vacuumed air vents; replaced and installed 7-new air vent registers.

Their phone service was a little frustrating - 5 or 6 different people picked up the phone to ask if I needed help, which only delayed the original person getting back to me. Other than that, everything went well - an estimator came out the next day and the work was scheduled promptly. They completed it quickly and well.

I noticed some moisture when I was checking on something else for my tenant, I called AAA Friday morning at 10:30. They had someone there by 2:30 (would have been earlier but I had another appointment at noon). The service tech realized upon arrival that I had a 220 water heater so called the main office and another guy delivered the water heater so that the job could be completed Friday afternoon. I did not compare prices but I think it was reasonable and they gave me a quote up front over the phone which was the amount I was charged even though they ended up putting in a 40 gallon rather than a 30. I know water heaters are cheap but it is the labor and having the installation done professionally that makes up the cost. The last thing you need is a leaking water heater on a 2nd floor.
Description of Work: Replaced a 30 gallon 220 water heater in a 2nd floor condo, the drained the old one, brought in the new one hooked it up and left the place spotless in less than 2 hours.

The person who came out to give us an estimate was very responsive and prompt and seemed to know what he was talking about. Based on the distance between our home and our neighbors home we needed a slim line a/c unit to meet code standards and that was a little more expensive. It did take a little bit longer than we had hoped to install but it was during a warmer weather period so I think they tend to get slammed with more business when it's hotter or colder. We didn't have any problems with the installation, they cleaned up after themselves etc. We had decided to get a new furnace and a/c to help entice buyers for our older home (it worked) and during the home inspection, the inspector ran across some minor issues. I called AAA to resolve the issues and they quickly sent out a technician to fix things and didn't charge us (as they shouldn't have since it was their mistake). We only lived in the home for a few months after the new furnace and a/c were installed so I can't attest to any future problems but everything worked fine and we had no issues while we were there and hopefully the new owners won't either.
