Requested top quality clear all heart grade redwood. Paid for materials. Then was told clear all heart was not available due to conservation of old redwood trees and hard to find and I would be credited for the lower grade redwood which was still really good but costs more than expected (sounded possible, but fishy). Deck was completed and looked really well. Then was told since the lower grade was more expensive than expected, credit could not be given. Paid balance. Decided to check on clear all heart redwood. Called numerous lumber yards in San Diego area and each one either had it in stock or could order it. Notified Best Rate Repair which asked how could I be compensated. I replied and never heard another word from them until I contacted the BBB. I had proof of requested clear all heart redwood and all conversations via email. Then I received the refund compensation that I requested. This company could have received all A's on rating if only the compensation was refunded up front without having to go to the BBB. The decks still look good, but they are not made from the original and more expensive redwood that I requested and paid for in the beginning. I think they still made out because the refund was less sufficient than the cost of the clear all heart. But I feel a lot better.

Mike came out and gave estimate, then scheduled work to start within 2 weeks. Job took 3 1/2 days to complete. Sergio and Alex did the work and were very professional and paid close attention to detail. They primed and painted all surfaces and thoroughly cleaned up and hauled the damaged material away. I highly recommend Best Rate Repair.

Best Rate Repair Company did an excellent job from first contact through the final cleanup. They were professional, courteous and thorough and they gave me the feeling that it was one of the few repair companies that I could truly trust. I have since recommended them several times!

Original bid was $15,475. Increase in cost, due to hidden damages found after tear down plus adding the electrical. These folks were completely above board, prompt to return calls, answer questions & showed up on time every day for 2 weeks. Also cleaned up every day.

Total miscalculation on the amount of work needed to be done by the estimator. Instead of replacing the whole frame, only one piece of wood was replaced. The rest was patched work and little paint job. Gave impression during the time of estimate of severity of damage, and therefore, caused me to think that the job justified the gross charge. Initial estimate was $1000. Then a couple of days later, it went up to $1450, again with the explanation that it would take two men a whole day to do the job. When I complained after the work is done in four hours, it was reduced down to $1000, still too much for the work which could easily be done by an expert handyman for much less. Best Rate is the worse rate!

It turned out to be a real difficult repair. They bid $4200 and expected to finish in 5 working days, but it took ten days instead. They should have bid at least 6500 for all the work they did and never asked for more. I have a strong construction background am but too old to do this level of work, but I know good work when I see it. They work mostly on termite damaged projects.

THEIR BID CAME IN CONSIDERABLY LESS THAN THE OTHER BIDS THAT I RECEIVED AND I FELT THAT DAN SCOUTEN, OPERATIONS MANAGER, WAS REALLY TRYING TO SAVE ME MONEY ON THE COST OF THE REPAIRS.
