The gentleman was very nice and thorough, but his bid was much more expensive. Thus, we went with another company for the job.

They arrived on time, stayed on budget, and did a terrific job. I would highly recommend them to anyone.

Everything went well, and they did a quality job. However, I found it to be very expensive. Please keep in mind that I had no basis for comparison on the price, though.

Started out great, showed up on time. After the project was complete we had a check ready to pay the closing invoice. However, we wanted any remaining paint as it was paid for under the contract price, and important for us to have detailed information for future touch ups. After a week of calling Mike, faxing Mike, e-mailing Mike, etc... I receive a call out of the blue, where's my check? And I advised Mike he hadn't called back about the paint and that I had his check in hand in exchange for the paint. Mike was very curt and stated he spoke with the Board President seven days earlier and said there wasn't any paint. I indicated I would phone him back. I spoke with the Board President, guess what, he NEVER spoke with Mike at Best Rate and was waiting for a similar call back about the paint. Called Mike back, no answer and I left him a voice message that he did not speak to anyone and check couldn't be released without the paint or paint code information. Mike called back the next day, no paint, no can, and he doesn't keep track of what products he uses so just give me my check!!! Unbelievably rude! Not only did he receive a material deposit, well under the thirty day turnaround to make a payment I was ready to pay, but upon receipt of leftover material paint or at minimum the product information. We had to assume he didn't want us to know what he used because it isn't meant for an exterior application since every contractor knows their materials. I received a quote to repaint the deck for $500 and deducted it from Best Rate's invoice and sent them the remaining balance. I will have someone repaint to ensure we are getting a true finished product. This contractor is dishonest, rude, pushy, and while waiting for that check to come in the mail has been vulgar on the phone with my assistant and accounting staff. This was my first Angie's List disappointment and now I have to be much more cautious because this company somehow slipped through the cracks. Signed, A very disappointed Association Manager

Would recommend highly. We were replacing an app. 20 x 30 wood deck with a Trex based structure, with three sets of stairs, including one with 18 steps. From initial interview and bid, to previous deck demolition and removal, through construction, to punch list and final payment, the process couldn’t have been better. The team was professional, friendly and communicative, did great work, cleaned up well, and left behind a deck we’re very happy with. They started on the date they said they would and ended within the agreed upon timeframe. They were very responsive to our suggestions (of course we weren’t being unreasonable either) and even came back to readjust something we didn’t see on the final walkthrough. One of the owners came by every couple of days and answered all our questions. We will absolutely ask them for a bid on our next house project.

Everything went fine with the estimate. The owner of the company was very easy to work with. We just went with another company. I would get another estimate with them in the future if I needed one though.

Don was punctual, professional, and very responsive to my questions and concerns. The estimate came out to around $4300, which was about twice as much as we had budgeted. My husband was getting out of the Navy and hadn't found another job yet, so we decided not to move forward with the project. There was also some uncertainty with the final price. Due to the nature of our repairs, we might require more work which could increase the estimate. Since some of the damage was not in a visible area, Don said the cost could increase. He couldn't tell me the amount of the increase, but said that it could be up to 50% more. We chose not to move foward with what could possibly be 3x our budget, though I may give them a call again in the future.

Timely estimate response. Work began a week and a half later as scheduled. All damaged wood was replaced and new paint applied to areas needed . The workers were professional and clean. In all it was a quality job. Good work Best-Rate Repair Co.!

The men arrived on the days and time expected. Did an excellent job on the repairs and replacements. Were courteous, polite, and cleaned up after themselves.

Crew of 6 men showed up on time. Spent 4 days repairing, replacing and painting. Excellent communication when extra problems encountered. Very respectful of decisions made. The quality of work was excellent.

I didn't like some overcuts on stair s so they added another board.

It went very well. Mike Spencer came out and gave us a formal quote. They started the work within 2 weeks and finished in five days. The quote was lower than I expected, the crew was curteous, on time and never left a mess. They finished the job faster than I expected and I was very satisfied with the workmanship.

The guys arrived on time each day and cleaned up at the end of each day. It was as if they were never there.

Work was nicely done and so far the roof doesn't leak. Work crew was pleasant and respectful to have working in the house. Dec update..now the roof leaks so I guess I am not too thrilled with them. I have to call in my roofer for repairs. April update: my roofer repaired some other boards. now I know what a nice job looks like and I need to downgrade the work again. this company told me that the only way that they could fix the roof was to change the tongue and groove to shiplap, but the roofer managed to do tongue and groove.

They were responsive and I would use them again. They were good with the follow up as well.

We had a very good experience. Best-Rate did all that they said they would do & more. Good work. Courteous hardworking workers. They showed up early. Worked to control the dust & dirt. Cleaned up at the end of every day.

When owner came to the door I looked at the card and smiled at the name (I saw "best rate" and thought "cut-rate".) This of course is not fair on my behalf, but the owner angrily demanded to know "What's so funny?" I said it was not important but he would not let it go and became more agitated. I should have told him to leave but I just wanted the door frame and brick to get fixed. After working a bit to calm him down I showed him what needed to be done. He said he would do his best to match the brick grout color (it is brown) but it may not be perfect. When the worker showed up, the owner had told him to bring grey grout and the worker told me it would not even be a close match. I did not have him do the brick-work. The wood work was acceptable but he painted the wood without priming it. It will peel within a year. There is no doubt that this was a "low-bid" exercise. The company may have done a better job if it was not paid for by a 3rd party. However, I would not hire this firm myself specifically because of the way the owner handled an awkward moment, his judgement on promising a quality repair then offering a "worse then it was" solution and the short-cut of not priming raw wood before painting.

Mike looked at what we had and was a great problem solver. I told him what I had, what I wanted to do with the area and he made some basic changes. In the end, I wound up with a great space. He came by at least twice everyday to check on the job, and kept checking in with me to be sure I was happy with the progress and the results. He is very professional.
