Best-Rate Repair Company

I bought the coupon for four hours of handyman work. I was contacted right away to schedule an estimate. After that was done I received an email with the contract to sign and mail back.Soon after an appointment was made to do the repairs. The handyman arrived on time and proceeded to do the work. Considering the difficulty of matching the repairs to what was already there I was satisfied with the work.

My wooden gate now looks great - fresh and new. Sergio painted all the boards and contrasting trim before constructing the two gate doors. He also installed a new latch and gate handles. I wanted the new gate to be built in the same format as the old one, and Sergio did this. He is very hardworking, skillful, and courteous. The above $1071 price includes $270 for materials. The new gate is an upgrade for the curbside appeal of my house, and I'm very happy with the services provided by Best Rate.

I was pretty excited about this job since Best-Rate Repair has excellent ratings on Angie's List and Yelp - as well as a $149 offer for the first four hours of labor. I scheduled an estimation visit and in spite of a mix-up on the directions, John Brown arrived on time. Initially, I was impressed by his personable nature and willingness to listen to my thoughts on the repair and explore options. However, when he started writing up his estimate, I noticed that he did not have a tape measure and he didn't bother to count the number of palings attached to the railing that would also need to be replaced (an expansion of the job). I was a little surprised when he came up with $675 as the price. When I asked about the $149 rate for the first 4 hours of labor, he got very defensive. He explained how he was already giving me a great rate on the existing bid, how it was an all day job and I'd have to pay the "standard rate" on the second 4 hours, and how the materials would cost $200-$250 (I can buy the wood paint and deck screws at Home Depot for half that). He then scribbled a bunch of new calculations to show me that using the coupon was basically a wash. When I pressed him on why they offer a coupon if it essentially has no value, he claimed that it's just how business has to be done and that all companies are doing it. I thanked him for his time and showed him out. He did not give me a copy of the estimate at that time or mail one, but he did call back a week later to see if I was still interested. CAVEAT EMPTOR: Know in advance what the industry rates and pricing for a service are - some coupons are not what they seem. Likewise, know enough about the service to be provided that you can tell if it's being estimated correctly.

Everything was ok but I could not afford the price

Perfect timing, excellent quality performance, acceptable pricing, extremely courteous professional personnel, detailed communications, who could ask for anything more, what more can be said? I will need their services again they will be the only people I'll call. Thank you Best Rate Repair.

John Brown, the estimator, showed up on time. He was pleasant but was kind of the salesman type. Everything he said had sort of a "let's see if we can boost the price" feel. He talked up the work and I got the feeling that his bid would come in way high. I was right #4800 - $5300. We did not use this company.

Best Rate Repair turned out to be an excellent choice for the job. They sent Rocky and his helper Fred. Rocky understood the old house and knew how to work around the problems and make things look right. They cleaned up and put away their tools and ladders before they left each afternoon. They also did quite a few little things that weren't on the itemized list. They had music on their radio, but it was soft and the speakers were of good quality. It didn't bother me at all. All around positive experience.

They did great with cleanup. They were fairly fast and they kept on schedule. There was an added expense not in orginial bid but it seemed reasonable.

The workman that did the work was good, nice and did an excellent job for me.

This was an extensive rebuild of a large patio overhang. It involved replacing 2 beams that were about 12'x 4'x 25' and angled into one another. They replaced a lot of lumber overhead as the cover consists of 2x4s resting on edge and spaced about 4-6" apart. All wood was primed and painted and all reusable wood was kept and used where applicable. They showed up on time, were very thorough and professional, gave us good suggestions for prolonging the wood life. They did all the small and large services we contracted for, which also included other wood trim around the house exterior. The beam issue was a wonder, due to the length and size of the beams. They brought in a nifty lift , and two men put those beams up without incident. I would have this company back in a New York minute. We really appreciated that the owner showed up promptly when called and knew without fuss what would need to be done. That was not true of other bidders due to the size of the job.

It was great, except that there was more that needed to be done that we weren't prepared for. We just went with the basic repairs and left it at that. We felt that they were very honest and were willing to work with us.

It worked out pretty good. I spent more than the big deal purchased because I had some extra work done. There were additional wood repairs that I wanted to have finished. It took more than three hours to finish. They added that on top of the charge. They were good and they were professional. The work they completed was done professionally and very well. They did a good job overall.

Overall it went very well! I participated in one of Angie's list Woodrot correction deals. I bought it during a very busy time and actually forgot about the deal I had purchased! Angie's list called and reminded me about it. Once I called Best-Rate, they scheduled a time to come out. John, the appraiser, was honest and provided some great feedback. Later, he sent the quote, which I modified (decreased the scope of the work). We agreed to a date and they sent Sylvio out to do the work. Sylvio was fast! He got the job done very well in about 2 hour's time. There was no additional cost to me. The Angie's list coupon covered the whole expense and I felt as though I got my money's worth. I'd use Best-Rate again in the future due to this experience.

Perfectly. On-time, full disclosure/discussion of costs and work to be performed, solid workmanship and just plain nice people.

Everything went well. Repair person arrived on time and cleaned up after work. All was done professionally.

It was okay. I signed up for a reasonable cost special package that was supposed to cover a review of trouble areas and 3 hours of repair. One guy came for the assessment and another came to do the work. When the guy came to do the work he expected me to have all of the material such as wood etc that was needed to complete the repairs. Since I was never supplied with an actual list of materials needed to do the work and the worker did not show up with any supplies he performed the work with whatever I had on hand. I felt that they just kind of showed up to do whatever minimum he could do to fulfill the agreement. He did that....so... Yeah he did that.

We had purchased a big deal for the service, and we were very happy. It was a little confusing because a lot of the money went in his travel time, because he had to come here first and look for what he needed, and then he couldn't find what he needed, and so we ended up being first billed for a lot of money for when he went from store to store. We called the owner and said that it was ridiculous, and we didn't have to be charged so much, so he reimbursed some. It ended up being a good repair, and we were happy that they were reasonable about the cost. This was the first time that we used them, and I am just happy that it is done.

They came and reviewed the house and gave me an estimate of the total cost. They were on time for the estimate and very professional. The estimator gave me some tips for some things I could do on my own. The original estimate was over $3000 but I could do some items on my own. They came within a couple of days of my agreement of the scoop of work. The crew was on time, professional and did great work. When they left the place was left in great shape, everything was cleaned up. I would not know they were here except for the great repairs. I would definitely use them again.

I was unable to use the big deal due to the estimate coming back very high. Higher than I was prepared to pay. They were very professional and polite when they were here for the estimate.

Everything went as scheduled with the minimum of interruption. A job well done.

I'd called two painting companies for estimates to repair and repaint our house's exterior wood fascia, shade cover etc, and in the process of evaluating the scope of our project, the estimator for one (Chism Bros -- see separate rating for their work) noted several areas showing significant dry rot and/or termite damage. He suggested that I contact Mike Spencer at Best-Rate before any painting was scheduled, When working on large projects such as restorations, Chism itself frequently calls Best-Rate directly to handle significant repairs and replacements requiring expertise that painters would not attempt. So I called Mike who immediately scheduled an appointment at my convenience. Mike arrived promptly two days later. He is a no-nonsense guy with a good sense of humor -- always helpful when dealing with home projects that seem to grow in scope. He treated both my husband and me with great courtesy, speaking directly to me and pointing out various problems and explaining how each would be repaired or replaced, including some more minor problems that a painter could fill. He answered every question thoroughly. I mention this because some tradesmen assume that a man knows more about such things, and talk down to a woman, or even ignore her. My husband and I each learned a lot from Mike, and since I was handling this entire project, I wanted solid information and clear answers which I received. Shortly afterward Mike faxed us an estimate. My husband and I felt comfortable with Mike's reasonable solutions and his estimate, so we did not seek any further estimates. After receiving our acceptance, Mike called me and within a week had his foreman, Rocky, and crew at our house. Rocky explained what the crew was doing, answered my concerns and took appropriate action when necessary. The project took two days. Then, four days later, the Chism Brothers painters whom we'd engaged found more damage on some second story fascia; so I called Mike who came out immediately. He then sent crew to repair and replace the new areas later the same day -- all at no additional cost. The Best-Rate crew was organized and efficient. They were careful around our garden plants. They swept and cleaned up each night. I highly recommend Best-Rate for any serious house repairs. This is the kind of company to call when you say, "Who on earth can fix this X or Y," knowing your project requires more than a handyman or even a good finish carpenter, for example. (In fact, we will probably call them another time to repair some stucco beneath the sills of our sliding patio doors). .

Recently Best-Rate repaired the dry rot damage under the stairs and replaced three 4x4 beams outside the apartment building, Under the stairs they repaired an area 6x10 . The repair was well done and the followed up with an excellent stucco job. It was was a beautiful job well done and I'm very satisfied.

Did a fine job. Missed one area of the deck, under a flowerpot, so came back later and did the whole deck again for free. Would use again.

I got an estimate from this company and the estimate was for more than the 149.00 I paid for the Big Deal. The amount of work I needed done was more than I expected so the price was not their fault. They were great though, on time and nice.

We were so grateful to Best Rate Repair and for John Brown's talent ( you should see his past work) Best of all, they finished in our short time frame of 3 weeks. He did considerable fire reconstruction including structural repair. We flew easily through all inspections and the results were beautiful. And they were all so nice and easy to work with. No question we'd ask John Brown and BRRepair back again.
