Best-Rate Repair Company

Called - took a week for someone to come out and give us a quote, sales rep was extremely professional and knowledgeable - quickly determined exactly what needed to be done and answered many additional questions. Unfortunately, his initial quote was way overpriced..$1,500...he verbally lowered it to $1,300 and then left saying he'd call me....My wife and I had assumed that $650-800 for molding/repair and $150 for stairs would be more appropriate. A few days later, we received a call back and an offer for the work to be completed for $1,100 - we accepted that offer because of the excellent reviews the company has here on angies list, that good carpenters are hard to find, and that we were in a hurry to get work complete. If we had been willing to wait longer and had other quote, we might have been able to get good work done for $800-$900 total. In any case, contractor arrived the next work day exactly on time and did an amazing job..extremely experienced...finished it a single day...very professional. We will call this company out for any further work we do, but only after getting other bids so that we can accurately know the reasonable price for the work.

Person giving estimate was very inexperienced....didn't get clear answers....said unable to strip old finish off redwood deck...so I found a company that would for less money for overall refinish job.

The estimator came out, inspected the fence, wrote an estimate and scheduled the work. The work was done by a very knowledgeable worker who truly cared and pointed out several other issues not related to his work that we might want to follow up on. Great experience - the work was done: On Time. On budget. Done Right.

I really like the end result. He had all the tools needed and cleaned up very well after the work was done. I would use this company again.

I really enjoyed the guy's work. I thought he was a really nice guy. He seemed like he knew what he was doing. It went very smoothly. It was a little bit funny in the beginning where he seemed like he was not going to get something kind of leveled out straight. I was unsure of his skills. But in the end, basically he did some really nice work. I didn't pay any extra cost. I'm in the process of refurbishing my whole yard fence. It's made out of wood and there are various fence pieces, horizontal and vertical along with two gates. That was a major thing which consumed his time. He was actually replacing the wood as opposed to repair wood. I was out there with them and I actually painted a bunch of the wood. He rebuilt my two gates. The rest of the stuff he did seemed like it was pretty nice. When I got home, he was a really nice guy. I really liked the man. He has already cleaned up and ready to go. I just looked at it all and I'm happy with the work he did. I would use them in the future.

The service person was late to appointment and blaming me for not providing the good direction. He was rushing to get the estimate. The estimate was outrageous and even with the coupon more than twice as high as their competitors. I would not recommend their service.

Best-Rate was responsive in setting up appt. for estimate and sent estimate in timely manner. Estimate came in high. I found another provider who got the job done well for much less money.

Repair went very well. Found more damage after starting the demo. Estimate was raised another $400 for additional work. Total contract was still hundreds less than two other contractors bids for the original work. All work completed in a timely manner. Very happy with the results. Would recommend and will use again.

As much as I would like to give Best-Rate Repair an "A" for the minor repair work done on my deck, I can only give them a mediocre "C" and here's why... |They smooth wood used to replace a few damaged slats did not match the rough saw-en texture of the rest of the deck and after closer inspection of the other work, I understood how and why the job was completed so quickly. The deal was for either one worker for eight hours, or two workers for four hours. I was originally told two workers would be sent but only one showed up. He was a good guy and was able to unbelievably "complete" all of the work in less than four hours. I could hardly believe it when he said he was done. Upon inspection, I immediately noticed the different texture of the wood but was assured it was as before, rough saw-en. I had my doubts but let it slide and it was only later after having a chance to examine all of the work in greater detail that I noticed other issues as well. |Also the original estimator, John Brown, never got back to me regarding the kitchen remodel I said I was interested in doing. At first he was all eager and excited about the work but when I said I wanted to try and keep my existing cabinets, his interest seem to wane. Still he took all the necessary measurements and said he'd contact me right after returning from a few days vacation to Napa. Well that never happened.

The job went very well! They were very efficient, personable and thorough. Each of the 5 stair steps had to be removed, new wood cut to size, then painted, and finally secured in place. They took the time to completely paint the wood and let it dry before installing to better seal the wood from the elements. While waiting for the paint to dry, one of the men pointed out a dry rot problem in the stair stringer on the other side of the duplex, and with my consent dug out the rot, applied a filling agent, and then painted it all without changing me for the extra work. I highly recommend them.

It went great. They removed the rotten wood and replaced it with another piece of wood that they primed first. Calked around and done. The guy who did it was friendly, professional and quick. It looks great. I then was able to paint it the next day and all is fine. I would for sure use them again if needed and I was also able to send Best Rate to a neighbor who is also using them.

I bought the coupon and talked with receptionist. They came out and said they could do the work and we scheduled the work to be done. Three days later the estimator called and informed me I could only use one coupon, but they would still do the work. At that time, they scheduled it the week after next, and I have not heard from them 2 weeks since.

It was fine. I didn't spend more than the big deal offer. There were some communication problems on their end which were pretty frustrating. They were 45 minutes late from when they said they would be here. I would use them in the future.

I purchased the Big Deal for 4 hours of labor for $149. That price in itself was not bad but I wanted some dry rot work done also and they would not combine. They essentially took a job that would normally take two hours and turned it into 4 hours. To fix a second story outside roof rafter and some 1st story deck work I was quoted two guys at $86/Hr. each, which is way out of line and two guys were definitely not needed (also confirmed by the worker who did come out) The work done on the drywall inside was comparable to a handyman I would normally hire for about $20/Hr. I would not refer or use this company again. It seems to me that they offer these deals to get at least a few more hours at $86 per Hr.

They did what they said they were going to do and charge me what they said they would and everything worked out good.

We knew going in that there was going to be extensive work necessary beyond what was visible due to the way dry rot can hide. We planned for this in a contingency, and were still surprised. What had originally been estimated to be about 70% replacement turned into at least 90% replacement. However, it was evident that this was not an oversight, merely one of those fun surprises you get when you do this kind of work. Best-Rate handled it professionally, with transparency, and in a timely manner. The same crew showed up day after day, worked a full day, and cleaned up beautifully every evening so that we could still enjoy our property. They were polite, friendly, knowledgeable and a pleasure to have around. Our end product is exactly what we contracted for (no add-ons, or pressure to expand the job). It is beautiful and did not run over time or budget. We are thrilled with the results! We have every intention of contacting Best-Rate for additional work in the future.

I called they came out to look at the job. The proposal was for $1200. I needed time to consider it. Approximately 2 months later I called to get the work done. They said the proposal expired and he would need to come back out. I took off work early the day scheduled and no one showed up nor called. I contacted them and they said the salesman had a grave family emergency and reschedule for someone else. The new gentleman came out to see the site. He said he would go back to the office to see if the original proposal could be honor or to work up a new one. I never heard from them again. I realized the issue some time later (today) and I called to ask for a refund. The manager (Terry) said I would need to contact Angie's List directly but he apologized and said he would have no problem supporting the request, if contacted.

Our termite service found rot and termite damage in our 35-year-old, 8-foot by 28-foot deck and treated it, but recommended replacing all of the original joists and decking because of their age and vulnerability to insects. (Most of the deck's framing and support structure had been replaced and reinforced 7 years ago, but the original joists and decking remained.) After getting evaluations and estimates for the repairs, we decided to give the job to Best-Rate Repair. Their original estimate and schedule were made with the understanding that if the damage in hidden areas was more extensive than we both thought, the cost and time needed would go up. After removing the old decking, it was obvious that all of the original joists would have to be replaced, so they gave us a new estimate and schedule. The estimate was still the lowest by many thousands of dollars. The deck was originally cantilevered off the back of the house, about 18 feet above ground level. The same joists that supported the top floor extended out the back of the house and supported the deck. To remove any danger of termites tunneling into the house through the old joists, the Best-Rate crew cut into the exterior stucco, cut off the old joists, installed a pressure-treated ledger board, and restored/sealed up the stucco. The deck is now supported by the ledger board and existing beams and posts that extend to the ground. After replacing the old joists with new pressure-treated joists, the crew replaced the original wood decking with Trex decking that carries a 20-year guarantee. The deck looks great and is solid as a rock. The crew was very careful to move anything that could be damaged out of the way, put down carpet protection inside the house, and generally kept the worksite clean & organized. They were friendly, professional people who discussed the project intelligently and answered any questions I had. They showed up on schedule and broom-cleaned the site before leaving each day. We are very happy with the way the project turned out and definitely would hire Best-Rate again.

Co-owner came out and did an assessment of what needed to be done. He was very cordial, honest, and clear. H explained the type of siding I have which didn't suffer from termites, rot, or water damage, thankfully. I was really worried about the potential overall cost. We set up an appointment to have the work done. One of his contractors came out and did the work in one day (He started at 7:30 and was done by 3:30 P.M). He did an excellent job in replacing the door and lowered it to make it more efficient. The beam was expertly repaired--it blended so well with the rest of the patio. The contractor was very polite, very efficient, and very clear in showing me what he did. I felt so pleased and relieved because prior to finding this "big deal" on Angie's list, I really didn't know what to do about potential wood rot on the house. I would use this company again! This company is wonderful! They were prompt, precise and professional. I am so happy with the work they did. I will call them first for any job I have in the future. Like craftsmen of old- they do good work. I appreciated coming home and being so surprised at how great everything looked! Their attention to detail, ie painting boards before installing them so that all edges are covered, filling nail holes, asking my preference in materials, moving things back to the original positions- just made me feel like a very skilled craftsman with the consideration of a family member had fixed something for me.

It was a great experience from the beginning. Don Scouten came to give me an estimate and, in addition to so clearly knowing his stuff, he is just a likable guy. He suggested I go with him for his inspection of the property so that he could explain everything he was seeing (in plain terms). He gave me the estimate right there and it was consistent with what I had seen on Angie's List and what I had in mind. I got the contract on the next working day along with a scheduled date. The date was moved by a day but Don called me and explained the situation (he wanted to finish another job before coming to do my work) and that was fine with me. On the day the crew arrived on time, walked around the property with me to ensure we were on the same page, and were very professional. They always paint the wood that they replace (something Don had explained) and the crew asked me for colors so they could match. In this instance, it didn't matter because the whole house will be painted shortly so they used a standard white. Again though, I appreciated that they made the effort to consider painting the wood pre-installation and were conscious of color matching. The work was excellent, the company very trust-worthy and I'd have no hesitation in recommending this company in future.

I called Mike Spencer, told him I was in a bind and needed the work done yesterday for a VA REFI. My loan lock was about to expire because my pest control company messed up. Mike rearranged his work schedule and sent his crew, Sergio and Fred (who did a perfect job) the very next day. My loan went through and I am forever grateful to Best Rate (Mike, Sergio, and Fred.)

The service provider was professional and showed up on time. the coupon is meant for wood decks and I only have tile decks.
