Description of Work: Instead of a traditional front and backyard, we have two large side yards. About seven years ago, Luis' team built a redwood fence, and installed a lawn and sprinkler system. Recently, on the other yard, which is a large steep hill, we built another redwood fence to match, a retaining wall, cut down a big dead tree, drip system, and moving a lot of dirt to get flat surface. Him and his team are always professional, and I enjoy their work since it's always thorough and honest. I'm always trying to find a way to cut cost, but he always insists on choosing the high road of a solid, high quality job. I appreciate his technical knowledge, and his flexibility to materialize my vision. The team also cleans up after every day, and left everything tidy after each project's completion. I've known Luis for about a decade, and never call anyone else for such major projects because he's well priced and does beautiful work. It's hard to find someone who's just a good person, and quite a commodity when working on your house.

We couldn't be happier -- if we didn't do our own general gardening we would definitely ask Mr. Ruvalcaba to provide this service. Excellent service; real professionalism.
Description of Work: Annual spring clean-up: trimming shrubbery; pruning roses; mowing; cultivation; trimming large tree; clean-up. Also repaired irrigation line.

Luis is amiable, speaks excellent English, is easy to get in touch with, and knows his stuff (i.e., which plants will grow where, which plants will look good together, etc). His employees seemed cheerful and good-spirited.
Description of Work: We hired Luis Ruvalcaba Landscaping to clean up our yard, which had suffered from three years of attention from our three boisterous Labradors. Luis and his team trimmed 170 ft of 10 ft tall hedge, edged and mowed our lawns, weeded, planted lots of new flowers and bushes, and reseeded the grass. We've also hired Luis to do weekly routine maintenance on our yard.

Description of Work: No work was performed. I called a couple of times to set up an appointment and left my phone number. I never received a return call to set up an appointment or decline the work. I was looking for landscape work and sprinkler installation.

+ -1 moreBefore we brought Mr. Luis Ruvalcaba on board to maintain our property, our lawn and backyard was dry and lifeless, our sprinkler system was not functioning properly and our yard just looked a shambles, and that was WITH a gardener that came EVERY WEEK!!!!Finally we fired our old gardener and thanks to the good graces of Angie's List we found Mr. Luis Ruvalcaba, the first day he came to be interviewed, he assessed the overall health of our grass and trees (We live in Hollywood Hills) and checked our sprinkler system...I kid you not, within 2 weeks, Mr. Ruvalcaba had our property looking like we lived in the tropics somewhere...Our backyard fecue (hilly grass) was green and thriving, our front yard was immaculate, our sprinklers were finally fixed so that it sprayed the grass and not our cars. Everything is just beautiful. I love looking out of our kitchen window now!! PS The $800 is for special work we had done..He now comes once a week, his monthly fee is reasonable, well below $800.
Description of Work: Mr. L. Ruvalcaba was originally hired to improve the health of our back and front yards as well as the trees on our property. Weed our entire property, which was overgrown with weeds (We live on a 1.2 acres in Hollywood Hills). He was also hired to fix our sprinkler systems and replace what was necessary.

I even offered to pay extra initially and he said it was OK, he could get the yard under control after a few weeks. On rare occasions they are a bit rushed. But then again they stay a bit longer at other times.

While other landscapers recommended retaining walls that cost a small fortune, Luis worked to prevent further erosion rather than simply catch the dirt that falls. He suggested having the plants grow up from the keystones into the hillside instead of the reverse, which is what we had before. Luis is extremely reasonably priced and will do the work to your liking. He special-ordered the keystones so we could have the color we wanted.
Description of Work: Planted ten creeping figs and one flat of geraniums. Installed a new irrigation drip, repaired old sprinklers, and built 30 ft. of legacy keystone blocks on top of preexisting hillside wall in order to prevent further erosion that began with the heavy rains two years ago. Also planted five horsetails and repaired irrigation along the side of the house.

+ 1 moreLuis responded promptly to my call, came to the house to give an estimate and was very professional. Upon hiring him, he came to the house to kill all the weeds and returned the following weekend to install the sprinkler system. He and his crew arrived at 7:30am and worked all day. They trimmed all of the trees, removed trash left over from our construction, and made sure to clean both the neighbors yards of any debris. They returned the next day and installed the sod which included more than I can explain. Luis is very knowledgeable and patient. We have hired Luis to be our weekly gardener. He did an amazing job and I would highly recommend him to anyone looking for a landscaper.

+ -1 moreAfter 3 years of manually operating the 4 sprinkler systems at my house. I am absolutely delighted with the results, and should have invested in this effort 3 years ago! Luis selected an easy to operate timer system, and did a great job of installing the new sprinklers and cabling in a very inobtrusive manner. He is my 4th gardener in 3 years. I have high expectations on services and quality of work, and he is the first gardener who met those expectations. I am relieved I do not have to think about searching for another gardener yet again. Although Luis is a little more expensive than the prior three. I am certainly getting a lot more value for my money. I have no regrets about paying the extra sum. They are extremely punctual, very profesional, thorough and they leave the place clean and tidy after completing their work.
Description of Work: He installed timer and 5 valves for existing garden sprinkler system. He installed 2 new sprinkler lines on 2 sets of plant beds. Luis and his team now also provides routine garden maintenance services weekly at a cost of $150/month

Our lawn is very small, so we don't need weekly maintenance, but if we did, we would hire Ruvalcaba Landscaping. We will definitely call Mr. Ruvalcaba again for similar maintenance (and, eventually, to put in a new lawn). Overall: A+++.
