Obviously, he doesn't always work with the same subcontractors but we weren't disappointed by any of the subs he used on our project. He always let us know what to expect and made sure we were comfortable with all decisions. Everything was orderly and the disruption was minimal. The billing was clear and straightforward.
Basically, my husband hired Kevin Anderson to remodel 2 homes. He wanted him to do everything except for the electrical work
and Kevin wanted the number of our electricians so he could use them too. From my view he had 2 people who work for him. One is the air conditioning/electrician which thank goodness we didn't let them touch the electricity. He has another general guy who does drywall and concrete etc. He used a tile guy at one place that he had only used once who was so slow it took him weeks to finish a small space. He had to come at all hours of the night to do the job. Though the tile guy did a good job, we ended up hiring another person tile person for the other house.
Also used 1 unlicensed sub-contractor that he said he would vouch for.
Though Kevin Anderson comes off as a very personable guy he is a nightmare to work with.
"Notice only this post has negative information. It says everything about the of person who wrote the post. No need to respond to nonsense."
We interviewed many, many contractors, but Kevin was the obvious best choice, because:
1. He had successfully done projects like this before.
2. He wasn't just a contractor who hired sub-contractors to do the work--he has actually done their work himself before, and knows how to do it.
3. He listened to our ideas, and from the start, added ways to make the plan better.
This was a medium-large remodel, more than $100,000, and for people like us, that's a lot of money. So naturally we wanted to know that our contractor was managing the sub-contractors to get the most professional results, yet controlling the costs. I watched Kevin interview numerous sub-contractors, each time selecting only the ones who were really skilled, yet reasonably priced. I remember he went through quite a few carpenters before hiring the one to build the library shelves--and the results are perfect.
Kevin always kept us informed about the budget, and in the end, the whole project was right on the original budget.
Another thing that was important to us were the details. This is an older home, and we wanted the new parts to blend seamlessly with the original house. Because of Kevin's work, everything matches up beautifully: the windows, doors, wood floor, bathroom tile--right down to the door handles, you can't tell what is original, and what is new.
I am often out of town for business, and so it could have been worrisome to me to wonder how the project was going, when I was far away from home. But Kevin kept in regular touch, and I remember him phoning me in Boston, Seattle, and Chicago, to ask about one important point or another. It kept me comfortable that he had everything under control at the job site.
Keven went and quot;above and beyond the call of duty, and quot; when things needed to be done, even on weekends and evenings. Once, when we were out of town, a freshly-painted outside door couldn't be closed until the paint dried. So, there was Kevin, on a Saturday evening, waiting at our home to make it secure before he left it.
In the end, you want to do business with a contractor because you trust that they will act on your best behalf.
1. You trust them to do the best quality work, so your home will look nice, and increase in value.
2. You trust them to keep the job site--your home--safe and sound.
3. You trust them to take your ideas, add their own, and end up with a result better than you first imagined.
And that is what Kevin brought to this remodel.
We now sit in our new library, look out the lovely French doors at our rose garden, and we are thrilled with the results, which are better than we imagined they could be. So we are glad we made the choice we did with Kevin.
