Everything went well and I felt very confident about the fellow's work. And yes, the AC is now cooling the house much more thoroughly than it was. When it's time for a new furnace, I will call this company.
Description of Work: Our AC functions poorly when the weather gets really hot (which kind of defeats the purpose of the AC). But the fan also made a bad sound that concerned me. I called the company and had an appointment two days later. The technician arrived about 20 minute early and checked my blower fan which makes a slow-to-get-going sound when it starts up (for either heating or cooling). He said the part didn't match the brand of the unit quite, but that it was performing as well as it could. He then checked the coolant level in outside compressor (I hope I have my terms correct) and determined it needed almost six pounds of refrigerant. He also explained that the heater coils in the furnace were old and rusty and would need to be replaced at some point in the next few years, and showed me some brochures from Lennox with best, okay, and least best versions of units his company installs. He said these parts usually last about 20 to 25 years, and ours is 28 years old, so that is an expense we'll look forward to down the road. I tried to bad-mouth my previous AC repair guys, but the Around the Clock guy wouldn't fall for it.

I called, they came out and could not find anything wrong. I called the next day and they said they were busy at the moment and would do something when they could. I then started keeping a log of the problems. I called back and someone said they would talk to the service man and was asked to call back. I called again after I figured out what was wrong. She said they could send someone out but sent someone at a time when the AC was not necessarily working as hard as when the problem occurs. They did return my check after saying they could not do anymore for me.
Description of Work: I was having an AC problem.

My AC was broken during the worst summer heat wave. When I called, Al came out the next day. He was professional and pleasant and very fast. He was able to explain what was wrong with the AC unit and what the options were. Apparently, a fuse was broken because the motor was stuck. He cleaned out the motor and replaced the fuse. He assessed the motor and discussed the possible options in case this were to happen again. I appreciated that he did not try to talk us into spending a whole lot of money replacing the motor or the whole unit at this time, but at the same time he was very honest about the condition of the motor (& unit) and the possibility that this may happen in the future.
Description of Work: Replace blown fuse and cleaned and "unstuck" motor.

My air conditioner stopped pumping out cold air. I called Around the Clock and they were able to come out the same day in the afternoon. This was after a weekend of 110 degree weather, so I know they were busy. He quickly identified the problem which was extremely minor (my a/c breaker was flipped) and then checked if the unit needed any maintenance. I asked if the air ducts needed to be cleaned and after checking them, he came back with a no. He simply charged me for the service call and was very courteous.
Description of Work: Investigated issue of why Central Air unit wasn't pumping out cold air. Checked if maintenance was necessary. Checked if Air Ducts needed cleaning.

Although the Lennox equipment featured by Around- the- Clock is top notch according to our research, it was confidence in the quality of the anticipated labor and installation that made us decide to go with AtC. One of our main concerns was the required re-ducting under the house. The crawl space access could be at best be described as challenging. We had the house re-plumbed last year and are well aware of the many "slither" spots under there. The sales rep, Bob Gage, immediately got Al Uchitel involved after his initial consultation. This was very reassuring to our concerns of proper airflow mechanics and engineering, quality ductwork and the equipment installations. Al didn't mind getting dirty and he immediately gave us comfort and confidence with his assessment.(Other reps mostly just rubbernecked the area for preparing the estimates, one other rep even stated that this part was not his problem). So Al's projected expertise, counsel and confidence in his crew sealed the deal with us. The AtC estimate presented was also pretty much in line with other bids. We set a date about at week and a half later. In the meantime Al checked on potential additional rebates. Let him navigate that for you! Right before installation, Al came back with a proposal for a nice equipment upgrade that based on manufacturer and utility company rebates actually slightly reduced the original cost estimate. How is that for a deal! Actual crew and installation extended this positive experience. Vitall, the supervisor and his 2 guys were punctual, polite, nice and neat, above all, however, they can be best described as working machines. Just remarkable, non-stop effort. They only stopped for lunch. When they left in the evenings you could not tell what major work had taken place here during the day. At completion Al got dirty again and performed his final inspection of the work performed. He was proud of his crew. He thoroughly explained the system features and operation. We had some very minor punch list items that were promptly resolved. Needless to say we are very pleased. This was an excellent contractor service experience........
Description of Work: Installation of high efficiency two zone central heat & air as well as air filtration system. Replacement of all (difficult) ducting in crawl space under the house. Replace grills and thermostats, also removed all old equipment and ducting. The home is a 2400 sq ft single story Mid-Century/California style house with somewhat difficult street access.

The company was very quick to send a serviceman to my home. My air conditioner would turn on but would not cool the house. It is fifteen years old. The serviceman examined the unit and found the freon levels very low. He added them. He also told me that I may have a heating unit that had been recalled and told me how to find out. He didn't try to sell me a new ac unit. He thought it best to add freon and then we'd be able to tell if there was a slow leak or a fast one. He seemed very honest, knowledgeable and friendly. I would use them again without hesitation.

Igor arrived promptly and inspected my outdoor AC unit which had lost all its freon. He thoroughly explained everything and told me that it would cost $600 to run a leak test, but he did not recommend spending the money, because he was sure I needed to replace it all and gave me credible reasons why he thought so. It made sense to me because at the end of last summer, another vendor filled the unit with freon and it had all leaked out without my even using the system. He gave me several options on what system to put in and explained each thoroughly with exact pricing. I chose a medium-priced unit but also inquired about an air-purifying unit which by itself would have been an additional $2800. With some creative thinking and the help of a rebate being offered by Lennox, I was able to add the air purifier for $750. Igor scheduled a Saturday to install a new system. He and his co-worker arrived promptly, told me it would take most of the day (until 4PM). They worked quietly, covered all the floors and left everything as clean as they found it. I asked them to make sure they didn't leave any doors open because I have cats and they were careful to always close them, which was much appreciated. They finished by 3:15 and took away the old system. Igor then gave me paperwork all filled out, not only for the Lennox rebate, but for an additional $100 rebate from the DWP, which I didn't even know about. All in all, I felt I was in very good hands the entire time.

This was a great experience. From the salesman, Michael, to the workers, and the owner, everything was perfect. The whole job took 3 days and they were very clean and professional. They were concerned about our satisfied above all else.
Description of Work: This company installed a full system of new A/C and Heat in out over 85 year old home. The service was outstanding and the air/heat is fantastic. I would strongly recommend using this company. The owner, Al, is great. He came before the work started and everyday of the work. He came twice after completion to insure everything was fine.

Quick and effective. With the Angie's List discount the price was OK. I got a phone estimate from another repair person of $200 but Around the Clock could be here a day earlier. The only mildly frustrating thing about Around the Clock is that they will not give you an estimate over the phone. I was correct in diagnosing the problem prior to calling them and I wanted a vague estimate, but they don't do that. They technician comes out and you either pay the $65 estimate fee or let them do the repair for the price they quote on the spot. They, however, do fix it immediately and the person who comes out is polite and well presented. It just always seems to me that the repair price is just below the threshold where I'd say it's too much and they should get the heck out!

Technician told me that "unfortunately" the Smart Valve was an "expensive part." He said it would take about an hour to install (on Tuesday) and he quoted me $683 for the entire job. When the technician left, I looked up the Smart Valve on the Internet, and it turns out to be widely available (at retail) for about $180. Assuming $200 for labor (the hour to install the valve, plus $65 for the original service call), then the company was attempting to sell me a $180 Smart Valve for $483. Of course, service companies are entitled to mark-up parts above their cost, but this kind of mark up seems outrageous. When I pointed this out to the phone rep, she said "That is our company's price. You are free to buy the part and install it yourself." I canceled the contract and called another company, which quoted $350 for the same job. When they came out, they discovered that the problem wasn't the Smart Valve after all, so Around the Clock had also misdiagnosed the problem.
Description of Work: Furnace was not generating heat. Technician came out on a Saturday and diagnosed the problem as a bad Honeywell Smart Valve.

Why settle for one brain when here you get two? When my wife and I decided to retrofit our 1928 home with central heat and air, all the pros (including Around The Clock) came to the same conclusion --- we'd have to cut unsightly vents into our original cove ceilings. But three days after submitting his estimate, Around The Clock's Al Uchitel called back. "Can I come right over and take another measurement?" The instant his measuring tape snapped back into the case, he smiled proudly. "I can not only save your ceilings --- I can save you money!" It seems Al had never stopped thinking about this challenge, and using both his left and right brains --- logic and creativity --- he came up with a remarkable solution worthy of the HVAC Hall of Fame. And his crew carried out his plans with masterful precision. Hey. Why are you still reading? Call them already. Two brains for the price of one!
Description of Work: Complete installation of central heat and air, including ducts, grills, two-zones, air filtration, maximum energy efficiency. Challenging crawl space installation under house rather than standard installation in attic utilized home's original vents rather than cutting unnecessary ceiling vents. See photos for unique grill placement to preserve cove ceilings and architectural integrity of home. Bravo!

I was extremely pleased with the project from start to finish. I e-mailed Al regarding the possibility of using his company after reading the Angie's List reviews. Al called me quickly and we set up an appointment for a free estimate. I have been doing a complete renovation of a home I just purchased, and his attitude was a refreshing change from what I've dealt with on many other of my projects. Al and I discussed my goals (an energy efficient, quiet, effective system) and he gave me several options for each part of the project. Once I notified him of my decisions, he got me a quote the same day. We quickly worked out a contract, and then he came with his crew to the home. The crew finished the work in the 2.5 days Al had estimated, and I am very pleased with the results. The units are exactly what I was looking for and are nearly silent. Al walked through the controls with me and has come by the house several times to make sure the system is operating well. Great work!
Description of Work: Around the Clock performed a complete upgrade on my home's heating, A/C and water heating systems, including replacing the units, installing new ducts and vent covers and setting up a 2-zone system.

Although they were not selected ultimately because we decided to go with Carrier equipment from a company that specialized in Carrier, Around the Clock's price was very competitive and Bob was extremely helpful during my selection process, answering questions with detailed explanations and providing options for me to consider. Of the companies that bid, ATC spent the least time inspecting our house, yet were comfortable providing a quote on the spot, which the other companies did not do. They have a fixed fee for duct replacement, which struck me as a little odd, given the variations in houses, but since the total price was in line with other bids I didn't delve too deeply into it. Bob seemed very knowledgeable, but was noticeably more casual than the other contractors, which in my case did not build a lot of confidence given the money I was looking to spend.
Description of Work: Bob came out and proposed on a complete replacement of heating, A/C, and duct work in our 1880 sq. ft. single story home. Quote was for a Lennox 4-ton unit, including roof mounting the A/C and moving the furnace from a closet to the attic. Also included were all new ducts.

I called as I did not feel that my existing furnace was working properly. Someone from the company came out and evaluated my situation. He told me that they could remedy some of the problems or my 2nd choice was to buy a new energy efficient furnace that would be properly installed and work much better. I choose the 2nd choice and ordered the work to be done. A crew came out early the next week and did the installation which took all day, including removal of my old system and installation. It has in fact improved the heat in my house and is a lot less noisy.

Al Uchitel, the owner of the company first came and we went over the whole work schedule and plans for the vents and their locations for installations. He explained the whole work project professionally and thoroughly. Then three workers came early in the morning and first put down drop cloths to cover the floors. They worked diligently for 2 days and after that we had heating and A/C, then the electrical box was put in and approved by the city. Upon completion of the job, the owner, Al, came again to inspect everything. He went up to the attic and saw that everything was connected properly. He then adjusted the thermostat and explained to us how to program it. He also adjusted the vents so that we get a good flow of hot air. At the completion of the job, the house was left very clean.
Description of Work: We had a complete heating and A/C system installed. The furnace and all the duct work were put up in the attic and the Lennox A/C was installed in the back yard. In addition, a brand new electrical box was put in as well.

On Friday, we called Around The Clock and one other company to give us repair vs replace estimates. Maya made an appointment to have Leon come the following morning. The soonest the other company could come was two days later on Monday. Leon arrived promptly at about 8:30am. He was professional looking and very polite. It took him only about 10 minutes to confirm that the blower motor bearings were bad. He said he could replace the motor for $525.00. He had a spare motor in his truck so he could do the repair immediately. He completed the job in about 20 minutes and he inspected the firebox and heat exchanger to make sure they were OK. Leon was very genuine and honest. We are thinking about remodeling our house and were unsure if we should spend the money on the repair. He could have used the opportunity to simply sell us a new furnace. Instead, he listened to the issues and concerns, and based on the facts, recommended repairing the furnace. We really appreciate his honesty!!
Description of Work: Leon from Around The Clock replaced the blower motor on our furnace. The bearings on the motor had gone bad and the furnace was making a loud clunking noise when the motor was running. In addition to replacing the blower motor, Leon also examined the firebox and heat exchanger for cracks and leaks and found them to be in satisfactory condition.

Everyone I dealt with from the person who answered the phone, to the repair person, to the installers was courteous and made a special effort to answer any questions I had.
Description of Work: My existing air conditioning/heating system finally had to be replaced. A technician diagnosed the problem. (I knew he was not just trying to sell me a new system as the last company who repaired the system said that I needed to replace the existing system.) Within 24 hours I had a recommendation and an estimate for a split valve system that was ideal for the situation (a separate office behind the house). The installers were courteous, efficient, neat, and hauled the old equipment away. The system they installed was listed with Consumer Reports as a good value for the money. What a pleasant company to deal with!

When we called them, an appointment was set up with their representative, Bob Gage. A thorough pro, Bob led us through the maze of equipment choices. To his credit, he didn't try to sell the most expensive option. We wanted to go that route, but he explained that we would get more value for the dollar out of the next lowest system. We felt good enough about this meeting, that we didn't comparison shop with any other company. On the installation day, they were bang on time. The crew was incredibly professional. As promised, the owner, Al, came by and did the full inspection with the crew boss. Once he signed off on the plans, he let them get down to work. Everything was done in ONE DAY. True to their word, they left the place as clean as when they came. When Al returned later that evening, he showed us everything, point by point. He walked us through the programming of the new thermostat. In the end, we got a really efficient system and a great service experience!
Description of Work: They replaced our nearly dead combination heating/AC unit with a brand new system. They removed all of the old components and installed a new Lennox condenser on the roof as well as a new Lennox furnace in our attic. The new system was installed with a high quality media filter and a UV sterilization lamp. At the same time, they did a full inspection of the ducting system already in place. There was a problem with only one section of the ducting. So, they replaced it at no extra cost. They also moved the air return vents from the floor of the closet to the more convenient location of the hallway ceiling.

On Christmas Eve, a horrible noise started to come from the heater. I worried that it would explode or start a fire, so I called a 24 hour service and was told they would page someone and call me. Never happened. After 3 tries I called Around the Clock. I called on Christmas morning (10:00) and was told Alex would be at my home between 11 and 1:00 to check furnace out. Alex came about 11:30 and immediately knew what the problem was. He reassured me I could safely turn on the heat until he got the new motor, and he would call me next day. They had the replacement motor in stock and installed the next day, as promised. I then hired him to do the maintenance service at the same time.
Description of Work: Alex replaced the motor on my Lennox Heater, which is 20 years old. Then he performed maintenance on the heater to clear out all of the dirt and dust, etc.
