Bell Brothers Plumbing, Heating & Air Conditioning

As a new homeowner, I was a big fish and boy did they catch me. I had heard about Bell Brothers from their radio commercials, so when their salesman showed up and gave me the schpiel, I bought it hook, line and sinker! I did need a new HVAC system, but the one they installed was small and expensive. I later found out that I paid way more than the market price and on top of that, they didn't even replace the ducts, which they said were satisfactory. They used my bathroom and left "remants" on the toilet, which I found extremely offensive. When I returned home to my new HVAC system, I discovered several tools in my garage were missing. I called to report this to them and they apologized, told me to itemize what was missing, buy replacements and submit the receipts. They did reimburse me, but frankly the whole experience was horrible. I have now learned to get at least 3 quotes for every job AND to use Angie's List.

My wife and I purchased a short sale property recently that has two HVAC systems. When we moved in we discovered that one the the two exterior A/C units was not working. I called Bell Brothers to check things out. A tech came out and replaced a fuse in the non-working unit. He then checked out both systems and told me that both of my A/C units had negligible refrigerant in them and that it was not even safe for me to run them in this condition. He recommended that I get a leak test done at a cost of approximately $600 for each unit, repair any leaks at an undetermined cost, and then recharge each system with refrigerant at an approximate cost of $1000 per unit. He then suggested I consider replacing the systems due to their age, and set up an appointment for a Bell Brothers sales person to come out and discuss options with me. The salesperson came out and tried to sell me two systems at $16,000 each. The Bell Brothers guys then left me with no A/C at all as they had pulled out the fuses on both units without telling me. I decided to get a couple of other opinions and called two reputable small family owned businesses. The first guy came out, put the fuses back in, measured the refrigerant in each system and told me that they were at or near the appropriate level of refrigerant. The next guy came out (from Young's Heating and Air, a company I highly recommend) and told me pretty much the same thing, that they might be just a bit low on refrigerant but were in an acceptable range. I paid him $300 to tune up both units which included topping off the refrigerant with a mere pound and half each (per Bell Brothers these systems would take in excess of 15 pounds each, so clearly they were nowhere near depleted of refrigerant). My A/C units have been working great for weeks now at a cost of $300, as opposed to the $3,200 to $32,000 that Bell Brothers tried to swindle me out of. Beware of Bell Brothers!

I liked that they were fast in getting it done. I did not like the amount of money we had to pay. The gentleman who came out was very respectful and personable. I had a better experience with the technician than the office staff. The office staff was a little curt.

We called Bell Brothers when one of our air conditioners was not working. They scheduled an appointment right away. When the technician Pete arriveed and he was very professional. Before coming into the house he slipped on booties to keep the floors clean. He went right to work and found the problem. He went to his truck for the new part and then checked to make sure it solvd dthe problem. Great job!!

They did a great job and even did the work on a Saturday because my wife and I both worked at the time. I'd recommend them to anyone. No complaints at all, and I would definitely use them again.

Excellent. They responded to my call very quickly and accommodated my schedule. Service Tech (Seth A.) is an excellent representative of the company. He was on time, communicated clearly what my options were, performed initial remediation of the problem, and scheduled the A/C motor replacement (under warranty) for a date/time that works well for me. I signed up for their twice yearly service and only wish that I had not done so sooner! Great job Bell Brothers!

Bell Brothers Manteca is very responsive.

I was called 45 minutes prior to the tech arriving. He was on time which is definitely a plus with me. He was friendly, explained what he was going to do, and did everything quickly, but thoroughly. He took the time to explain all that he had done, as well giving me a written report. We received a phone call from the company as a follow-up to see if we were satisfied. We definitely recommend them for all your heating and air conditioning needs.

They were really professional, they came in, they worked, and they left. They did not monkey around. They were very good. I will continue to use them.

Everything went well. They were a little bit expensive. They are not as competitive as they could be. Their service is good. The technicians were excellent, friendly, and professional.

The company called me 30 minutes prior to the technicians arrival to let me know the name of my tech and what time he would arrive. Anthony B. knocked on the door right on time! He explained everything he would be doing and asked if I would like to be informed of things as he went through each step. How nice and refreshing. It's nice to have someone willing to share information and point out the where and why of how these systems work. After working on my AC unit for over an hour he was ready to inspect my heater. Anthony took apart my heater, and I am soooo very glad he did. None of the other companies that I have used over the past 10 years have ever taken apart my heater! There was 10 years worth of dirt and cat hair stuck all over the fan portion of of the unit...yuck! Anthony took it outside and completely disassembled it, cleaned every part of it and put it all back together again. That could have been quite a fire hazard, not to mention how much harder the unit had to work to heat the house. This is the best service I have ever had from any company that I've used for my Heater & AC unit in the past 25 years. According to Anthony, this service is what each Bell Bros. tech is expected to provide. I will be using Bell Bros. from now on and I will recommend them to all my friends that might be needing their services.

I found them on Angie's list. They come out and check my systems every three months. They have had two things to fix. They said it was a possibility of being the motherboard. It ended up being a switch both times. They replaced the switch and still showed me the old one.

They were reasonably priced, very knowledgeable, and the technician was nice. They were very efficient and quick with the work as well. I plan to use them in the future.

Punctual, professional, knowledgable. No surprises. Final price is what was quoted. They had to return to do some work required by the county inspector. They did so quickly and at no cost. Would use them again in heartbeat!

They were wonderful. They do follow true with job. our particular job has some issues they do what they say..

The thing that I disliked specifically about them is that they seemed to tell me that my system was gloomed and I had to change it in a year where as other people have never told me that I had to change it. I would not use them again.

Overall I was satisfied with them. They were good.

We called them because they are a local company and they’ve been here for years; the same family has owned it. They came the day we called and set it up, and the next day we had a new system. I didn’t get to compare prices; I just trusted them with their warranties and product. They installed a good quality product because I did look it up.

I have an ongoing contract with them for the maintenance of my unit. We pay them monthly. I just believe in keeping on top of these things and so I like them. There is an option to have them come out on a regular basis. The one thing that they are supposed to do is call the schedulist, but sometimes I don’t get the call and I have to call them. That would be my only negative remark. They have a good system set up but do not have the fully automatic scheduling yet. They have taken care of my unit. They had to do the same thing a couple of times. So I don’t know if it’s their fault or if it’s the equipment. I think their price is moderate and right in there. They are not very expensive. I will use their services again in the future.

Does a good job each year.

Workers arrived on time at 7am, started by putting on booties over work shoes and laying down a protective cloth over the carpet to prevent debris from the removal of the old system to get all over the place. By the end of the first day we had air conditioning and although there was still work to do, at least during one of the hottest days we had in June we were comfortable. Workers arrived again on schedule next day to complete the job. All debris (old heater, A/C compressor, replaced ducting) was removed from in front of the house promptly. Except for the replacement of the moulding around the entrance to the attic, you almost couldn't tell there was any work done because the clean up was thorough. Even the City of Elk Grove inspector commented on the quality of the work. There were some problems that came up after the job was complete, and initially Bell Bros. rectified it to our satisfaction. When the SMUD (local electric utililty) rebate check arrived, it was less than what was expected. This is due to the fact that the person that wrote the estimate made an error on the SEER (efficiency rating) of the A/C compents and it was 0.5 SEER/0.5 EER less than promised. We were offered several options to rectify the error (we chose cash back and extension of the labor warranty to 10 years) and it was taken care of within the same week (including receipt of the check). Approx. 2 months after the system was installed the A/C compressor failed to come on when the thermostat was set to "Cool". I contacted Bell Bros. on a weekday at 12pm, was called back by the service dept. at 12:30pm, and they had a tech out to fix the problem (it was a poor electrical connection made during original install) by 1:45pm, all the same day! That is good service! Unfortunately, that's where the good service ended. On October 29, 2011 I discovered that the furnace would not turn on (had never been used except for the initial test by the installers in June 2011). Called for service appointment between 8am and 9am on 11/1, he did not show up until after 10am (over 1 hour late, excuse was that an "installer" meeting went over it's allotted time). A part was needed and ordered, appointment was made for 11/8 between 7am and 8am, he did not show up until 9:10am (over 1 hour late, received two different excuses, one from the office stating "a delivery truck was late with parts", the second from the repairman stating "the scheduler messed up"). It remains to be seen if this is an isolated incident or a trend, but at this point I would not be recommending Bell Bros. for HVAC work.

They are very nice and seem to be very honest. They always do nice work.
