Communication needs improvement--plants we'd asked not to be taken out were removed, trees we asked not to be trimmed were cut back until bare, a new tree was planted in a location different than discussed, and brickwork was removed without our permission. New flagstones had to be moved/reset, the aforementioned tree had to be replanted, and we had to ask many times to have certain plants and the missing bricks replaced. Looking back at the email sent by one of the owners describing work they would do, they describe certain plants including potted plants and an application of moss that they didn't deliver on. Most frustratingly, the mulch that I agreed to at their suggestion for the children's play area resulted in many tearful splinter extractions. When I explained the problem they did sweep the mulch from the play area and bag it, but left the 300sf area as bare dirt and emailed me they didn't know anything about the rubber playground mulch I must want. Rubber? They didn't attempt to solve the problem once my last check arrived, and ultimately we threw in the towel and hired someone else to rototill. The native bentgrass seed we've since laid down is coming up nicely. I hate to put negative reviews out there, but when interviewing landscapers and gardeners for maintenance, every one of them volunteered dismay at the price we paid and the finished result. One even urged us to pursue partial reimbursement in small claims. That isn't something we're at all interested in, but when I recently did a DG installation with stabilized granite and regrading that cost about a thousand dollars less than their estimate, I finally decided that sharing our disappointment on Angie's List was the right thing to do. All of the workers including the owner were never anything less than polite, respectful, and pleasant to deal with. And several areas of the garden that they did really are coming in beautifully... I just encourage people using them to go over their proposal with great thoroughness before signing, and expect to pay a premium (including their owntime staying involved).
