We previously used B & B Hardware and had a good experience. About a month ago, our home was broken into. We contacted B & B to replace a door. My wife spoke to owner and a manager from another store. A verbal agreement was made, no written proposal, quote, etc was given, $430 for door and the hardware. The man who came to install the door was about 40 minutes late and it took him 8 hours to install the door. Upon installation, the molding on the outside of the door was old, so it broke. We needed it replaced, but again, a quote (nor in writing or via phone) was provided. However, Mr. Barnes agreed to get paid in two (2) installments, without knowing about the extra cost. A call was made to my wife at 9:15, but no one told her that someone was going to come the next day to finish the job. At 8:30 the next morning, Tom Barnes (owner of B & B) took it upon himself to cut the padlock on my back gate, enter my property, without prior permission, and finish the job. He replaced the lock, but again, never left a written notice and my wife found out only after the job had been completed. When my wife tried to speak to him about entering the property, Mr. Barnes became hostile and rude. He hung up the phone on my wife. Yesterday (7/14/08), I spoke to Mr. Barnes via phone and he became rude and hostile and also hung up on me. Within one hour of our conversation, I hand delivered a cashier's check for $200 and a personal check for $30 to cover the cost of the installed door. Since we never discussed the molding, I'm withholding payment and have contacted the Better Business Bureau. My contention is that Mr. Tom Barnes, OWNER of B & B Hardware, insulted me and my wife, insulted where I live and raised his voice. He was disrespectful to a paying client, even though he was not professional in providing a written estimate nor a detailed invoice of services provided.
Description of Work: The door from our garage to our yard needed to be replaced, including the frame. Door was replaced as was the molding on the outside of the door. The person who came to replace the door finished the job in EIGHT (8) hours!
