Description of Work: Myron came out to look at a problem with my foundation and gave me honest advice that it could wait until a later time when we plan to add a garage. He could have said it needed to be fixed now and we probably would have gone ahead but he was honest about what needed to be done and the urgency.

Paul Brown came by my house today to investigate some foundation issues. My slab foundation is 60 years old and with the expansive soils undermeath, has experienced a lot of movement causing mutliple plumbing issues. Although I was hoping for an easy fix, I was prepared for an estimate from 30 to 50 thousand. Happily, Paul was able to recognize the issues and offer an inexpensive solution that would not even inolve his company. Not only that , but Paul spent over half an hour with me explaining the problems he was seeing, how they developed, and how to fix them. I was incredibly impressed with his knowledge and experience as well as his ability to communicate the issues clearly and effectively. For the first time in my life, I'm a little dissapointed about not spending money because that means the I will not be working with someone who is so competent. If I ever need additional foundation repairs, Ned Clyde Construction will be my first, and probably only, call.

I thought these guys were going to be really expensive, but they came in lower than expected and approached my problem with a different solution to other guys. They know their stuff and are very competent. Jon Hagen is engineer and was quality on his skills and knowledge and advised on some other areas for no charge.

I dont have time for write-ups - but felt compelled to help out as I had quotes for 10-10k more than these guys for new foundations and all sorts of solutions... thanks

We wanted someone to take a look at our foundation to see how it is holding up. We had no complaints (no tilting floors, no loud cracks or bangs, no evident movement) but wanted a professional to verify all is fine. Ned came out and inspected our foundation closely, to include the crawl space. He said it looked and good and didn't charge anything at all for the inspection. We were impressed by his thoroughness and great work ethic. If we ever do have a problem, we will call Ned.

The inspection was pretty bad logistically. I set up an appointment with Jon Hagen to inspect a house we were buying with an inspection contingency. I first contacted him a few days before the date he and I set the appointment and I tried to confirm with him the morning of the appointment, but didn't hear back after leaving a message. The realtor and I showed up at the house that had been temporarily vacated by the owners for this inspection. After waiting for about 30 minutes, we called the Ned Clyde office and talked to someone who told us that Jon was at a site 1+ hours away. We explained the situation and we got Myron Hagen, Jon's father, to agree to come out as soon as he could get there. We had to call the seller's realtor and extend the time we needed the house. In the meantime the seller's daughter returned from school and found us in the house, long after we were supposed to have left. Myron finally showed up, apologized, and did a thorough inspection. He wrote a very detailed report, which we received in a few days. The report itself was very good and the drainage portion was very much in line with what we heard from the firm that actually did drainage work for us, although the cost estimate was high. For the quality of the inspection and report I'm going to generously give Ned Clyde a "fair" rating, but the appointment snafu was unacceptable. We only had a few days to complete several inspections and the forgotten appointment for the foundation/drainage inspection was really unhelpful. It's somewhat of a production to coordinate these things with sellers, buyers, and all the realtors various schedules. We never did hear any explanation from Jon Hagen.

Very smoothly from initial assessment to completion.
Description of Work: My single story home was settling with large cracks in the front foundation. After many contractors gave me proposals without going into the crawl space, the civil/ geotechnical engineer who came out, Jon Hagen, was thorough. He measured all levels inside and went underneath to inspect. His explanation was straight forward and sensible. The written proposal arrived and was easy to understand. The scheduler accommodated my work schedule and the work started as planned. They dug trenches, jacked up the corner of the house and drove 4 underpinning pipelines and connected the piles with steel reinforced concrete. The cracks were patched with injected epoxy. The city inspector came as planned. The job foreman, Bouathang Sengpaseuth, was easy to work with. These people really know what they're doing!

Very well. The crew arrived on time as arranged the day before, notified me of any disruptions (noise, no access to door), and kept me informed of the progress.
Description of Work: My house was built in 1955, and over the winter of 2012 it became progressively harder to close the front door. Staff from Ned Clyde Construction gave me an estimate for underpinning and releveling of the foundation under the front door. I have no other estimates.. Over a period of 4 days, the crew removed the brick landing, excavated the area underneath to expose the foundation, installed a steel; pipe pile, raised the underpinned area, connected the foundation to the pile.with steel-reinforced concrete, and replaced the porch.

I bought the house in spring. Over summer many cracks appeared. I decided to have the foundation inspected because the house is built on expansive soil near a creek. I called Ned Clyde Construction and scheduled an appointment for the following week. They were very responsive. The inspection however should be more thorough. The inspector only looked at the the cracks I found and decided there were no problems. The entire process took less than 15 minutes. In contrast, an engineer (Dave Olnes) I later hired actually measured variations in the foundation, pointed out which cracks are significant, explained the reasons, provided a written report, and charged less. I graded "quality" as C only because the work performed by Ned Clyde Construction is typical of the industry (so I was told).

Jon arrived promptly. He explained the assessment process and performed a thorough evaluation of the current foundation with interior measurements and crawl space evaluation. He explained his findings verbally and with a diagram. His written estimate was received as promised. I need to make a decision now about the best alternative as proposed.

I called to inquire about getting a bid on some foundation work for a property my wife and I are purchasing. Unfortunately, Paul at Ned Clyde told me that they would have to charge us $350 to come out to look at the house. I had always thought that estimating a project was part of putting a bid together and part of the cost of doing business, so I am not unwilling to comply with their request. I think this policy is going to have a negative impact on their business and would recommend that they change it.

An engineer returned my call promptly. I was interested in getting an estimate regarding a foundation, patio, and driveway problem. He was willing to come out to inspect the property, but required an upfront charge of $350, applied later to the job, if we used Ned Clyde. I need at least two estimates to discuss the problem, and solution, but don't want to be "locked in" up front with a $350 bidding fee. Other than that I have nothing to say, other than to mention this company's fee requirement. UPDATE : Paul did come out and did an inspection for bid, free of charge. We are in discussion as to how to proceed. More to follow.
Description of Work: Pipe pile underpinning of a corner of the foundation. This is to level and stabilize the foundation. Out of three bids and different ideas, this seemed the best solution to our problem. So far job has progressed well, and I am impressed with the professionalism and attention to detail the workers so far have shown. I will give a final assessment when the job is complete.

Paul Brown was the one who came out and his visit was terrific. He was on time and professional. He was very informative and nice to talk to. He explained to me how the foundation was bolted down and let me know that I could not use cripple walls. He let me know that no earthquake proofing needed done. I appreciate that he did not try to sell me services that I do not need. He also took a call from me later so that I could ask him information about my earthquake insurance. He was able to help me find out the information I needed and answered all of my questions.

The day of the work the crew come and was done in a couple of hours. They did just what was needed and had the best price because of it. Very proffessional.
Description of Work: Engineer Paul Brown is also a Geologist he came to inspect my foundation problem and recommended repairs needed. The posts on my foundation piers were leaning and one was also cracked. The house is about forty years old and on a hill. Most of the contractors tried to scare me into building retaining walls, drilling new piers and all kinds of things that were in the ten thousand plus range. He assured me that although it was apparent that there had been ground movement in the last forty years, all that was needed was to jack up the house, install adjustable steel jacks to replace leaning wood posts. That is what the did, the original piers remained and steel jacks replaced the wood posts. I haven't had any problems.

They provided us with estimates and a time line, were there when they said they would be; did not leave our job for another job; finished when they said they would and stuck to the estimate. Very high quality firm.
Description of Work: We had a breakfast room over the part of the basement that was sinking. The house was built in 1914. Ned Clyde Construction broke up the cement floor (about 10' by 6') in the basement, drilled down to bedrock (13'), inserted 12" pipes and filled them with rebar and cement. The house is solid as a rock ever since.

When we bought the house the two-story masonry chimney was sinking at an alarming angle. The previous owner had had an estimate done months before we saw the house, and Ned Clyde honored that quote. The chimney now looks great! They had also bid on French Drains at the time of the original chimney quote, and two years later, because I was a returning client, they honored their previous quote for that work as well. They were excellent: very professional, always prompt and courteous and even did more on each job than they were contracted to do. They not only cleaned up after their job, they repaired my back gate without mentioning it to me, and left my yard looking much better than when they arrived. Every person of whom I asked any question (patiently) answered me in layman's language. I would hire them again in a heartbeat! We even hired some of their employees for another side job for us. I have no complaints.
