Joe Sepe Heating & Air Conditioning

I had three estimates and Joe's came in close to our second estimate, but I liked Joe and he sold me on the American Standard brand of AC unit and the permit fees were included, unlike with the 2nd estimate. He determined the refrigerant leak in our old AC unit and offered just to replace the condenser unit as an option. The system was 20 years old and we just wanted a brand new more efficient system, rather than trying to maintain a system that was neglected by prior owners. We had some funky electrical issues with the old house we purchased in mid-2011. He was able to swap out a breaker in our electrical box and make sure everything was up to code and permitted, which was all included in his estimate. Joe was a very low-pressure salesman and we were very happy wit his knowledge and expertise. Completely satisfied with the price and installation and would recommend Joe with your AC/Heating needs. He also appeared to have upgraded our AC condenser unit model above the one agreed upon in the brochure, which was a pleasant surprise! Note for future AC buyers in LA area: I research things to death, and only a month later, all the knowledge I acquired about R-22 vs. R-410a refrigerant... flushing refrigerant lines, 13 seer vs. 16 seer units, HERS testing.. ect. is becoming a distant memory. There are so many convoluted regulations by the city of Los Angeles that can add on between $500-$1000 in fees to an AC installation if you aren't careful. Our 2nd estimate insisted our ducts would fail the duct leak test and we needed to spend $1500 on new duct work to pass testing. To this day, i still don't know what would happen if we said, no we aren't going to pay for HERS testing of our unit after installation. I didn't try to play that bluffing game with the city of Los Angeles.. I imagine they would just deem the installation unpermitted and not sign off on it. I did some research and found that since we had what was possibly some asbestos wrapped around some of our attic duct work, that we were EXEMPT from duct-leaking testing. This meant an instant savings of $200-$300, and possibly more had we listened to the 2nd estimate and redone all our duct work. . So if you have an old house like us, you should probably be able to at least get a duct leak testing exemption and save some money.

Mr Sepe and his son were professional, when was greeted he handed me his business card, was clean and just a little late. He got right on the work at hand and explained everything to me as they worked on the problem. He was considerate since this is a rental property to the privacy of the tenant and I really appreciated that as well. When he was finished the cost was exactly as he quoted, accepted a personal check and work was complete! Would recommend his company and will use him if needed again.

I called to make an appointment and Joe himself answered the phone. He was very nice and professional. We set a date and time for the following week because I live a bit out of his radius. He called back first thing that morning to confirm our appointment that day. He himself came along with one of his guys. They both were very nice and professional. He very quickly diagnosed the problem and fixed it within half an hour. But that was not all; he also inspected and did a thorough cleaning of both my AC and Heating unit. All in all he spend about 1 ½ hours at my place. And the most amazing thing of all, he only charged me his $75 service fee. And this is not all; because I have an old (very old) thermostat, I was prepared to buy and have him install a new one; but to my surprise, Joe said I don?t have to, it still works just fine. And that?s not all, I?ve been thinking about replacing my units and Joe gave me his expert opinion on what type of unit he would recommend for my place when I?m ready to do that (I have a smaller townhouse), the price was right in line with the research I had done. So he did not do any up-selling. I can?t recommend Joe Sepe enough. I am definitely telling all my friends and family about him. The only regret that I have is that I didn?t get more business cards from him to give to my friends and family. My take away: There are still honest business people out there!!!

Overall experience was very good

He did a extremely lousy job, and I had to have someone come in a fix it. Five other providers came in and told us that it was poorly installed.

cleanedThe technician was right on time for the appointment we set. He was nice, clean, and professional. He found the problem in a half hour or so and spent time fixing it then rechecking it to make sure there was no other problem. Then he cleand up any mess. Great service.

They performed a general inspection and servicing and pointed out the problems with my HVAC system. Both technicians were nice enough and knowledgeable , and were able to show/explain me the problems. They also cleaned after they did work, which was great.

Left Joe two messages yesterday, and he never called me back, when I called first thing in the morning the next day, he pretended like he didn't get my messages, and didn't have time for me... well glad you're too busy for a new client. Hope you don't lose any of your new ones.

Joe came with a helper. He assessed both a/c machines, gave me a price (which was lower than I had anticipated. In less than 2 hours all work was completed.

Joe Sepe and his son showed up promptly and after about 30 minutes determined a valve was clogged and cleaned it. Since Mr. Sepe's $75.00 service call our system has been running perfectly. He did advise us the system was older but still a good functioning high efficiency system. He said we might need to replace some parts but said he'd be willing to look for the replacements when the time comes. Mr. Sepe was prompt and professional, he analyzed the problem and repaired it quickly and left the area he worked in in perfect condition. But most important, Mr. Sepe was VERY HONEST. He knew we'd been told our system couldn't be repaired, he could have easily pitched us a new system but AMAZINGLY he repaired the old one. I will always call Mr. Sepe for repairs and when the time comes choose him to replace our heating and air conditioning system.

They did a great job, Joe was really nice and gave some helpful tips on how to take care of some maintenance stuff yourself, never tried to push me into doing any extra services but quite the contrary told me that things I asked about were fine and did not need any service at this time. I can definitely recommend these guys. Only reason I put a B on quality instead of A is because they didn't have the correct size for one of my A/C filters, which apparently is a non-standard size that they don't normally carry, so they had to overlap two filters, other than that no complaints.

Fantastic. As I said prior to this, we didn't actually have him come to the home. He was so kind to tell my son what needed to be done.

We scheduled the installation on Thursday 12/06/2012, Joe called on Tuesday to inform me he got the equipment and would be there on Thursday at about 8:30 am. He, his son and another helper showed up at 8:15 am. They laid down drop sheets from front door to rear door. He asked a couple questions I answered and got out of his way. He finished the job at 2:15 pm, the crew swept and vacuumed the entire work area in doors and out. Joe did a professional job, explained the new system and how it worked. One thing he did was upgraded the A/C unit to the next level at no additional charge. (I don't know many contractor's that would do that). He said to call If I have any problems and was on his way. I highly recommend Joe Seppe Heating & A/C. to anyone looking for a new system, a quote or repair... My wife and I are extremely happy with the entire experience.. PS: This story should be in the upper box and vice - versa.

My HVAC would not turn on, I called Joe Sepe and he was able to come out same day. He diagnosed the unit and identified the problem. He wasn't sure how quickly he could get the required part, and having already done some research I knew where I could get it. I expect to replace the part myself with no problem. Although a service charge would have been fair, none was charged. We discussed an upgrade to my second unit, I expect a quote in the near future.

I feel so fortunate to have stumbled upon Joe Sepe! I found him on Angie's list after reading the reviews. I was relieved when he phoned me back within a couple of hours (during the extreme heat wave!) & he sent someone out that very same day. It turned out that the drain pan on the cooling coil was rotted out, leaking, & needed to be changed out. I could have gone with just the repair, but because of the age of my AC, I decided to go with a complete new system. (Never once was I pressured to buy). The next day Joe & his son came out, ripped out the old one & the following morning he installed my new system. He was there to oversee & assist with everything. It has been 3 weeks now, & I am extremely happy & pleased with his work ... the quality is superb! Joe was kind honest, knowledgeable, & gave me a fair & reasonable price. He patiently answered all my questions & gave me great advice. My new AC looks & works beautifully & I absolutely love it! I would recommend Joe Sepe in a heart-beat & you can be sure he will be the one I call if I ever need it serviced.

The A/C in my tenant's town home was intermittently blowing cold air then warm air. I found Joe Sepe on Angie's List and saw a lot of good reviews (as compared with some others where I found many good but then some bad interspersed). So, I called Joe and L/M that night. I also called first thing the next day at 7AM and L/M. He called back by @ 8:30AM and said that he could get out there in the afternoon. I said to please call me 30 minutes before he would arrive so that I could meet him there. He did just that and when I arrived at the condo about 30 minutes later, he was already there waiting for me. He and his assistant diagnosed the problem right away by metering the coolant flow and found that it was down about 2 lbs. of coolant. He explained to me why he thought it happened and what to to look for in future. He was courteous, professional, and punctual. I thanked him for squeezing me in on the same day, especially during such a long hot spell in the Valley. He explained the charges, accepted the $25 coupon, and the whole thing came to $130, which I felt was reasonable. I would use Joe Sepe again and would recommend him.

A/C stopped blowing cold air. Called and left a message around 8am. Got a call back within an hour. Techs came out 2 hours later and made the repair and did the maintenance of the HVAC system. They were courteous, professional and knowledgable. Service call and maintenance was done in under an hour. I would definitely use them again and recommend them to family and friends.

When I first called Joe, he tried to diagnose the problem over the phone, so he could save us a service call. Instantly I knew I had found a genuine contractor. Joe was very busy at the time, as the valley had a crazy heat wave and power grids were down all over the place, so I scheduled the next available time. Joe arrived on time with I believe his son. They were VERY professional and very nice. Joe quickly diagnosed the problem (no freon in the lines) and gave me a min and max price depending on how much freon was required. He fixed the leaks and re gased the lines. He answered every question I had without getting annoyed (I like to learn as much as possible), and the price came in the lower end of his quote. He even gave me details about the brand of the unit, an told me he would come back and waive the service call if the same problem occurred in the near future. Obviously he would still have to charge for the gas, as freon is not cheap, but that is understandable. He also explaine to me why I could connect into the ducted system with the rest of my house. All in all a great experience. I will use Joe again in the future and recommend him to everyone I know. Regards, Jase

My A/C unit stopped blowing cold air Sunday night. I called Joe 8:00AM Monday and he was here by 10:00AM. Checked the unit, installed a new capacitor and VIOLA! Cold air! Great service, extremely reasonable price and saved my marriage.

Our air conditioning compressor conked out on Tuesday with us forecasted to face 100-degree temperatures here in Burbank, starting yesterday (Friday). We could not arrange our schedules to be home on Wednesday, so I asked for an appointment on Thursday afternoon. It was well over 90 degrees outside by lunch time on Thursday. Rick showed up at 1:30. He corrected the worst of the problems in maybe ten minutes. He replaced our capacitor and fuses, took the hose and washed down our very dirty compressor, replaced our equally filthy furnace filter, flushed the drain line and checked the freon. Although he had to bring a ladder upstairs in order to crawl into our attic, he was as careful as he could be. No banging into the stairs, the bannister, the doors. If I hadn't watched him move the ladder I wouldn't have known he had done so, he was that quiet. The new capacitor was $209 of the final $274 cost, so everything else that Rick did, except the travel time, was basically a freebie. I am so pleased with their service and pricing that I have already passed their name on to another friend. No horror stories to report here. I'm sitting cool as a cucumber on our second floor while it's 100 degrees outside.

SUPERB JOB. My central air conditioning unit's fan stopped working and consequently the unit stopped working too. I called late on a Friday afternoon; the service technician arrived at 9 am Saturday morning, as promised. He replaced the broken 1/3 hp condenser fan motor on my air conditioning unit with a motor that was a little more powerful, and added a capacitor. Gave a 1 year warranty on parts and labor. He was very courteous and knowledgeable. Let me watch the repair, answered my many questions, cleaned up the dust and dirt inside the unit although that was above and beyond, cleaned up the mess of loose wires and screws that the last A/C service technician (from another company) had left, and tested the unit before he left. This company gets my highest recommendation. Just to let you know, I got an estimate from another company, which I didn't go with. That company said the fan motor couldn't be replaced because it was no longer being manufactured. They said I would have to replace the whole A/C unit, and that it would cost $4100! I asked the technician from Joe Sepe what was the deal with this higher price from the other company. He said that technicians often work on commission and so they will "bid up" a job so as to make more money. Said he had heard of a case where an elderly lady had been charged $850 for a capacitor, when it should be much cheaper than that. Also explained that the technicians at Joe Sepe don't work on commission. That he wouldn't feel right about charging too much, anyway -- couldn't live with himself if he did that. So, that was my very good experience with Joe Sepe.
