I requested an ac outlet to be installed about six feet up on a wall where a TV install was to be performed the following week. I also wanted an outlet for the HDMI cable for the upcoming 60" flat screen. Dave came by on the date arranged, and the work was done in a few hours. The price was very, very, reasonable ($108.00). Very nice, clean, meticulous work. He had done some work for us earlier in the year, ....he grounded many of the existing outlets in this house (some were already done as the bathrooms and the kitchen had been remodeled in recent years). No the computeres and TVs, etc., are protected by surge protectors (this house was built in '59). That was a bigger job, he brought a helper, and that too was a very good job, and again that was a very fair price. that is why we called him for the second job, ...and will in the future for any upcoming electrical work needed.
Description of Work: Add an electrical outlet, and HDMI Cable outlet for a future flat screen TV wall mount.

. The trouble with a deal such as 2hours for 99.00 is that the company gets crazy busy, so it was awhile till I could get them to come over to look at what seemed to be two weeks. It was a bit of phone tag but I wasn't worried because it wasnt a rush job. The first job proved to be two much for two hours so we quickly determined to go to project #2 The guy was a very pleasant and knowledgle person. I was able to work outside with him and converse as he took apart the old wiring and put in the new wiring. He asked me what was the most important task for the two hours, he was quick to see what options were available in project 1# and he did a excellent job to do the rewiring of the lamp, there have been no problems, very fair with his pricing and totally satisfied. He also looked at the ceiling lamp fan in the kitchen and ran it through its 3 speeds and determined that it needed counter balance weights which I am glad to have received the information. I would hire him again. Gabriel Ibarra
Description of Work: I had a two hour window which I wanted to have Alan Electric finish two projects. 1# put a new outside light by the gate, 2# fix an existing but not functioning chandlier type lamp in the kitchen. The first project was first looked at, and after some 10 minutes, the project could not be completed in the two hour window. A new set of wiring would have to be installed and or rerouted from an interior house wiring. #2 project two was to fix kitchen lighting fixture, it was determined that the existing wiring was faulty and needed to be taken out with a new wire assembly. Alan Electric went to home depot to purchase it, cost (around $18-19.00) repaired it quite handidly & also looked at our kitchen fan which was not working properly and advised us to fix it as well. All told spent around 2.5 hours.

I contacted Alan Electric for some electrical jobs I needed in 2 different locations. It was a bit difficult to connect at first, we played phone tag for a little while, but after we connected everything went very smoothly. The job was done professionally, on time and as expected. We replaced light fixtures throughout the house. Dave is great to work with and I will definitely use his services again.

He did a good job, and I would use him again.
Description of Work: Installed new smoke / carbon monoxide detectors in our 2-story home, replaced several electrical outlets, and installed one new outlet in family room. overall, happy with results. Should have had an additonal grounded outlet installed same kids' bathroom to replace the older, out-of-code one existing. Wish he had caught that when he replaced the other outlet in that same bath. Safety issue. We provided parts; he primarily did the labor.

I called Dave on a Saturday morning and left a message telling him that I was without electricity and needed help as soon as possible. He called me back about 45 minutes later. Dave was able to re-arrange his schedule and was at my house by one o'clock that afternoon. Dave is a likable guy, very friendly and easy to talk to. After I explained the problem to him, he started at the electrical panel and methodically traced each run in the house trying to isolate the problem. He found the problem in one of the bathrooms and was able to fix it quickly. It was not so much a question of the complexity of fixing the problem as it was of having the knowledge of finding the problem. I was very pleased with Dave's response time, his attitude and of course his knowledge of the electrical trade. If I need an electrician in the future, I will definitely call Alan Electric again.
Description of Work: There was a short of some kind in the electrical system of our house. I had to turn off the breakers to parts of the house, so we were without electricity because I did not know what was wrong. After I called Dave he started at the electrical panel and methodically went through all the runs of the house to try and isolate the problem. Dave was polite and very professional, explaining as he worked what he was doing and why. He eventually traced the problem to a group of wires in one of the bathrooms which was not secured properly when the house was built. He fixed the problem.

He was WONDERFUL! He gave my husband a quote over the phone that it would take an hour or so per fan. He came on a day that he doesn't typically work but would never even know it when he came to the house. He was a great guy and just overall happy and very professional. It actually took several hours to put in the fans not due to him at ALL but instead our drywall in the ceiling was crumbling so bad that he couldn't install the fans securely. There were several times he could have just given up but instead went to home depot to get a part that would help secure it (this is now into sunday evening, who wants to work on a sunday evening!!). All in all he was wonderful and will hire him again and again. As you could imagaine it came out to more then 1 hour per fan and he totally worked with us on how much to pay him as he said 'I quoted you this' kind of thing, I ended up paying him more then he offered just as it was truely not his fault. Who knew installing fans would be so much work.
Description of Work: He installed 2 ceiling fans and braces in the attic to support the ceiling fan weight.

Dave came out within 2 hours of our calling him. We had described the problem to him on the phone, so he stopped and bought a new triple switch on the way to our house, anticipating what we needed. However, when he got into our plug/switch box, it wasn't the usual set-up and the new switch box he bought would not work. It was more involved than he had anticipated and he had to leave our house and go to a specialty store to buy an unusual switch (where he was told we probably wouldn't be able to get such in the future). Not only did he satisfactorily fix that problem, he also ended up putting in a new plug under the sink for for the grbg disposal. We really liked Dave. He was informative and knew what he was doing. He took his time to figure out our unusual situation. He was very honest and told us he took 1/2 hour lunch break when he went to store for parts, but he did not charge us for travel time during that 1/2 hour. Total labor was $120 and the rest was the cost of the special triple switch. We thought his price was very reasonable and we really liked it that he came to our house so quickly after our call. We will definitely use him again.
Description of Work: Replaced triple switch for lights & also undersink outlet. Our kitchen switch is almost 30 yrs old. It is a 3 pronged switch, 2 switches turn off/on overhead lights and the 3rd switch turn on/off the grbg. disposal. The grbg. disposal switch would flip back and forth, but would not turn off the grbg. disposal. We had to unplug it under the sink, and every time we needed to use it, we had to crawl under the sink and plug it in. Dave fixed it, as detailed below.

Dave (Owner) arrived right on time. He was extremely professional and kept me informed throughout the process. Dave discovered a short in 2 separate areas. Our home is a challenge - built in 1946 and no crawl space or attic. Dave had to run new conduit, but provided a fast and effective solution to both projects without having to rewire (or move furniture). And, I now have even more light in the kitchen which was lacking for years.I am very please with his work. He didn't charge me for the time he spent shopping for my items, and he cleaned up afterward. Thank you Dave!!

Dave arrived on time (he even called to confirm the appointment) and as he worked, he demonstrated his 20+ years of experience in the electrical field and his professionalism. He was careful during the installation process, and conscientious about safety, economics, and neatness. He showed his honesty, advising against additional work that wasn't necessary; "don't fix it if it ain't broke". The job took 2 hours and the newly installed lights work great and look gorgeous. I highly recommend Dave Nagel (Alan Electric) to anyone who needs a skilled electrician.

I only hire companies rated on Angie' List. I got tired of dealing with companies who don't make customer satisfaction their number one priority.
Description of Work: I called the company, but no one ever returned my call. I needed 3 items to be installed: a stove, bathroom fan/heater and sprinkler control box. I guess they went out of business - another victim of the GREAT RECESSION. I called two other electrical contractors : Apollo Electric and Solex Electric. I received prompt responsiveness.

Dave is owner of the Alan Electric. He called me back after I left him message. I have high ceiling where I needed to attach new fan. He looked at the situation where connection was available nearby from a lamp. Added a wiring and made additional electric switch. Made connection to a fan with remote control. He had access to wiring from the attic but connecting fan up about 17 feet was difficult part. He brought special ladder from rental place. Made another trip because of need for special ladder and hanged the fan. He was very courteous to work around our schedule. Cleaned up after the work. Worked around our furniture with minimum disturbance and put back the furniture after the work. He is very reasonable with labor cost. Only thing I can say is he does not pick up phone when he is working and you have to wait for a hours until he calls back. But this is understandable for one man company. Over all I was very impressed with how smoothly he completed the work.
Description of Work: I added a new ceiling fan to the high ceiling (about 18 ft up) living room, so in the winter all hot air does not go up and bottom section gets warm air. Alan Electric added new wiring to the wall switch and installed a new fan to the ceiling.

The old conduit went directly to the underside of the old cooktop. Dave installed a new junction box, cut the existing conduit to the appropriate length, and replaced ancient and undersized wiring in the conduit between the new junction box and the next junction box in line, which was under the oven. The new cooktop was a bit smaller than the old one, and didn't come with mounting hardware that was appropriate for the existing opening in the tile counter, so Dave and I discussed my options. He agreed to leave extra length in the flexible conduit whip between cooktop and junction box so that I could pull the cooktop out of the counter opening, set it aside, and build up the edges of the opening (to properly center the new cooktop) and attach straps to the sides of the cooktop pan (to hold the new cooktop edges down against the tile). He also made sure I knew that the breaker should be off while I was working, and that the flexible conduit whip had to be secured to the cabinet interior when I was done. We tested the new cooktop and the oven to verify that the new cooktop worked and the old oven still worked. I did the carpentry work the same day as the electrical installation, and everything's secure and working fine. (Note: Home Depot's cooktop "free appliance delivery, hook-up, and haul-away" is only "free delivery", unless you've already ripped your old cooktop out and can hand it to the delivery driver. No installation, hook-up, etc. is included, which is stated in the fine print if you go looking for the details, but was not in the information shown during normal on-line purchase and delivery scheduling.)
Description of Work: Dave removed our very old GE electric coil cooktop and installed a new GE electric coil cooktop that we had bought from Home Depot. He came on time, was courteous and pleasant, did good work, and his charges for time and materials were very reasonable.

Dave showed up on time and got right to work. He was very personable and humble. He made good suggestions on how to dispose or recycle the old fixtures, and he provided some common electrical parts (e.g. switches) that he had on hand, or went and picked some up so that I did not have to go out and buy them. Since the work was on my elderly mom's house, it was important that she could feel comfortable having him in her home, and his friendly demeanor helped a lot with that. The lights he installed and the garage door power outlet work fine.
