Troy came out and I explained what I wanted was just yard weed clean-up and tree trimming. I also had one very small orange tree to remove. He irritated me right away, because the first thing he tried doing was up-selling me and he proceeded to draw out a diagram of what he thought I needed to do. He wanted me to gravel my yard, because it is so large. I told him I had dogs and I wanted them to have grass to run on, not stones. I had to be blunt and tell him I only wanted the weeds out and the yard cleaned up. plus the orange tree removed. He put down that the orange tree was going to cost $125 extra to remove. He also said it would cost $175 to remove the dead from my ficus, and crown it, plus another $150 to trim my small oak tree. The workers were to come at 11 am, and they showed up 8 am. I told them they could not start right then. Eventually, they did wait and came back about 10:30. I showed and told the head of the crew what I needed to be done. Around the orange tree, the weeds had the sprinkler heads hidden, so I specifically showed him that there were 2 of them, so to be careful when removing the tree. I had to make him redo the yard twice, because they did not dig out the weeds. The weeds were some that had thick stems. He finally took the pick ax and dug out quite a few of them. They had used a weed eater all over the yard instead of removing them. When I inspected the hole that was left from the orange tree removal, I discovered they had totally shaved off one of the sprinkler heads. He said he didn't know it was there and he must have accidentally done it while he was using the weed eater. I told him that was why I had shown him the 2 at the beginning. He did fix it. In the afternoon, they had a tree trimmer show up. I was told the trimmer did not work for Masterscapes, that he was a subcontractor. By the time he was finished with the ficus tree. It had gone from branches of approximately 15 foot high to about 6 foot. There was no shape left to the tree at all. He assured me that it would all grow back. He was getting ready to leave after completing the oak tree in the front yard, and I called him back to have him trim off a branch that was hanging too low. He gave me some off the wall reason as to why I didn't want to do that. Since he was the expert, I went with his recommendation. The ficus tree has never come back the way he explained it would and every time I walk under the oak tree, I hit my head on the branch he did not trim off. I had asked Troy during the consultation how long it would take to do all of it. He said it would take all of the 15 hours, possibly more- not including the tree trimming time. The total time taken, including trimming the trees, only took about 14 hours. They had also stood around talking at one point for almost half an hour, which during that time, the head guy went inside the neighbor's house after speaking to him outside. I have refused to pay for any of the tree trimming and told the gal that called me about it, exactly why. She said she would speak to Troy about it and get back to me. I have not heard a word. That was several months ago, so I have written the whole thing off and would still refuse to pay them if contacted again.

Had 2 different people call to schedule the appointment. He arrived on time. Approximately 10 minutes was spent checking the entire yard sprinklers and drip system. I was told there was a leak in the front and was quoted about $400.00 in repairs. I declined and hired the guy that doeds my monthly yard maintenance. He charged $40.00. Quite a difference.

Called Masterscapes to set up an appointment for an estimate for yardwork for a morning that I had set aside for estimates for my new home. The appointment was scheduled for 8 am on Thursday. I waited until about 8:20 am and called the office. I was told by Jeremiah that my appointment had been scheduled for the next day. I told him the next day did not work for me, so Jeremiah said he would contact Shane and see if he could meet me that day. He told he would call me back. He did not, but I did finally receive a call at about 10 am from a woman who does the scheduling, and I was told that Shane could meet with me at 10:30. The woman was apologetic for scheduling me on the wrong date, or I never would have agreed to meet with Shane. Shane showed up 10 minutes late for our appointment. I discussed with him what I wanted and he stated how simple and straightforward it was, and that he could give me an estimate that day - well, that was 6 days ago and I have heard NOTHING - no email, no phone call, NOTHING! Don't have time to deal with companies that I can't count on!

Troy came out to give us an estimate on April 2. We got a little carried away as I had always wanted a front patio with water feature. Troy gave us a nice design and an estimate of $26,000, along with the coupon. The coupon was $299 (value $695) for a consultation and installation of one 15- gallon tree, eight 5- gallon shrubs and five 1- gallon flowers. including installation. We thought about it and advised Troy: 1. We wanted to see how they performed before we committed to spending a lot of money. 2. If we were going to spend that much money, it would be on the backyard, not the front yard. 3. His drawing while nice, was an over-improvement for the neighborhood. (That's where we discovered we were making our front yard into a public backyard.) I told Troy if things went well we would be using Masterscapes when we were ready to proceed on the backyard. It took Masterscapes about five weeks to get the installation scheduled and installed once we gave the go-ahead for the plants we wanted. I wanted to have an additional tree and that onetree cost me $488.25, (It's the exact same tree inlcluded in the deal we purchased.) Troy said that was the best deal he could give us for the extra tree. The 5 yellow/orange bells were not spaced evenly apart and some of the water lines did not have water regulating tips on the end. I called the office to ask about care instructions and was told they would have Troy contact me. He didn't. When it looked like a sage was dying I called his cell about June 6 and he said everything was hooked up to the water system when installed so it wasn't his problem. More or less, he didn't want to talk to me and wouldn't come look to see if it was his problem or mine. The Angie's List coupon provided a number of plants and one tree. Considering I was a paying client and a source for future business I feel I was not treated with respect. I dealt with the problem but have no desire to have contact with Troy or Masterscapes.

They did everything that they said they were going to and they have no complaints. I drove down there and the landscaping looks great!

Mike was prompt, personable, polite and professional and was a good listener to our ideas. As we moved here from the NW and were not familiar with desert landscaping, he provided a lot of information and creative input for us. We feel we could have worked well with the Masterscapes team.

We were preparing a rental property for sale and Shane came out to give us a quote, Shane was courteous, knowledgeable. And responsive. While he was taking his measurements for his estimate, he also did some free troubleshooting on our sprinkler system and helped us get it operational. Shane helped us with existing plants, diagnosing insect infestation on some cactus, and he fixed the sprinklers and priced out a large replacement of landscaping stone in our low maintenance front yard. We paid a large 50 percent) deposit and before the work was started, the house unexpectedly sold after one day on the market. Masters a Es cheerfully gave us a full refund of the deposit. They are very honest and understanding and I would strongly recommend them for medium to large sized jobs.

Used company for watering advice and appointment went well. did little to help with the sprinkler tune up and watering for the upcoming months. I was told everything would be e-mailed to me and still waiting on the e-mail. Also, asked for an estimate on the front yard landscape. Had to call the company back twice before it come through. I was forgotten about. I really had high hopes for the design and wanted this company to work out. I still may use this company in winter for the front landscape package but I might have too many worries about them.

They did the sprinkler check and discovered I needed to replace the control unit. They planted a couple of trees. I don't think that they did the right thing on the drip system with the one tree - it needs a line run from the tree drips and they put it on the plant drip. Also, I have a large tree out front that I don't think they told me the right thing for. I need to get in touch with an arborist.

The initial meeting went well with Jeremiah. I decided to get the work done. They crew did a good job with the tree removal and stump grinding. The estimate for the pavers was quite a bit higher than another estimate I received. However, I did not want to wait for the other company as MasterScapes was able to do the work much sooner. In general, the pavers came out looking good. However, there were a few issues. The pavers were not completely straight (a little higher on one end of the patio than the other). Also, the workers drew a red line along the bottom of our newly painted house. I am not sure why they needed to do this, but the red line is still there as I could not wash it off. The last problem was that one of the workers turned off the water valve on the porch which was for our irrigation system. I noticed after 3-4 days that none of our plants were getting watered because the valve had been shut off. No one ever rang the doorbell to say "we're done, how does it look?" I just looked out the window and noticed that everyone had left. Overall the experience was OK, but next time I would consider going with another company.

I called last week for a consultation for an estimate and design of my front and back yard. I have a new home build and essentially need everything from drip lines to trees to extensive masonry work. I found Masterscapes on Angies List as they were highly rated. I left an email for them to contact me which they did promptly. I believe I spoke with Sheela or Angie, who was very kind over the phone. We scheduled an appointment for today at 8am. My appointment was supposed to be with Mike. I specifically remember informing them that my address will not show up correctly on MapQuest so I gave exact directions. On the day of the appointment, I arrived early because I highly value punctuality as I would expect from a company trying to gain my trust and ultimate business. Once 8:15am came around, I called their number 623-780-0474 and left a message to confirm the appointment. I waited until 8:35am. No return phone call. No Mike. If a company cannot show up for the first appointment, which in my mind is the most important, as it determines a first impression... how can I trust them with a 15-20 thousand dollar job? Poor customer service. I expected more. Update: They called me that morning at 9am to apologize, which I appreciate. They had the appointment down for Saturday at 9am. I am 100% this is incorrect because I will be out of town this weekend. All of my other appointments for my contractors showed up at the correct time and days that week. All appointment times were written down at the time of booking them and on the same paper. Unfortunately you only get one chance to make a good first impression.

Mike Macchiaroli Tree Company.... Mike came out the day I called for an estimate. He asked me what I wanted done and he then made suggestions thoroughly explaing what he would do. We agreed on the price and work so he then wrote up a contract. Today he was right on time and we went over what was to be done before they started. After a few hours, he knocked on my door and had me review the work in progress. When he saw that I was satisfied, they continued on until they finished and cleaned up. His men were quiet and worked steadily until done. I could see that they were conscious of my neighbors and made sure to clean anything that was extending over our shared walls. Mike was very professional and courteous. Excellent job!!! I was very pleased and recommend Mike highly.

They showed up on time and did a good professional job. The estimator made some good recommendations on color and paver type and the job turned out beautiful.

Had to have the work readjusted ....seemed over priced.

Mastercapes/Shawn did such a great job. They were punctual, the materials needed were always on time and my backyard is a transformation not to go unnoticed. It is now a xeriscaped backyard of beautiful plantings, trees, a firepit and an extended patio area where I can now entertain.

They were fine. He basically came out on time and did the job. He was a friendly person. He answered my questions and everything. The price was little high. I would use them again.

It started out fine: Their landscape architect visited the property on March 11, 2013, and spent about an hour taking measurments, asking questions, sketching, etc. Promised us an estimate within one week. Nothing. I called him after 2-3 weeks to check on status.......said he would have estimate within "a few days". Today is a couple days shy of Day 60.......still nothing.

We've had a terrible experience with other landscape companies who promised design plans (that we paid for) and never delivered. This happened with two difference landscape companies. Out of despiration we called Masterscapes where we experienced great customer service from the first phone call and were quickly connected with a designer who came out the next day. We have a very large front and back yard (almost an acre) and wanted to move quickly, they sent an amazing designer out - Mike Hancock. His design was amazing - more than we hoped for! And all in a couple of days. Very happy with the services we received.

From the very first meeting with Shane, I was happy with his vision of how to lay out the pavers (and his vision of potential future projects as well) he was friendly and polite. We did hit a snag when I purchased the companies deal on Angie's List only to not have it be applicable to my job. So after a couple weeks of sorting that out and waiting for a refund, I hired Masterscapes for the job. The got things done fast and with great quality. The pavers look great! Our big ficus tree was thinned out well; however, the top of the tree still had many dead branches. I contacted Shane and he put notes in to have the tree trimmers come back and finish the job. They returned last week and thoroughly trimmed the top of the tree. I am extremely happy with the job they did on the backyard. I will definitely hire them again for future projects!

Great job, was able to show up on a Saturday which made things wasy for me with work.

It went ok. It was a company that I had already known about. So I got the good service that I expected.

I contacted the company on thursday morning to set up a service for my yard. On thursday afternoon they called to confirm the date but they had the date for friday (the next day), i corrected them and said it was suppose to be for monday. they changed the landscaper to fit the new/correct date. On monday, 30 min AFTER they were suppose to of arrived, i contacted the company and asked why the guy wasent here yet and to get an approx time of arrive in case he was running late when i was told they thought it was back on friday was the date. i corrected them yet again, and she said she might be able to squeeze me in between 4-5pm that evening. I finally heard back at 3pm from Jerimiah. He did come by at 430pm like he had informed me on the phone and let him know of the situation of the scheduling. (so im giving a C rating instead of an A due to the bad scheduling but at least he came at the time which the owner Jerimiah let me know he would be there.) I hope it doesnt happen the next time they are suppose to be here for the actual job. after giving me the price (which was a SMIDGE more than expected it would be), he let me know that they would schedule a time for them to come back out and do the work. I was thinking it would be done today instead of another day.

The initial quote was done and written estimate provided. Prior to the work being done, I asked them to see about adding the holding tank for the irrigation water, and an RV pad with grading and electrical. Troy came back out to measure and sent a plot plan and gave me a verbal quote for the additional work. I did not get a second estimate for the additional work in writing before I authorized it, going only on what he quoted me over the phone. Unfortunately, I misunderstood that the price he gave me for the additional work was not inclusive of the initial estimate, but on top of it. I ended up with sticker shock and paid way more than I budgeted, but this is my fault and I learned a valuable lesson: insist on getting everything in writing. Overall though, they did a great job and I have no complaints with their work. A few minor issues cropped up afterwards and they were very responsive in service after the job.

This was a promotion on Angie's list. They tried to up sell repeatedly for more than i wanted. I got work done for 1/3 the cost elsewhere. Used the promotion to do tree work only and it cost me an additional $1000.
