On the day of the installation, I was told that they will be at my house early in the morning 6:00 - 7:00AM. Got up early, booted my son out of the room because that was where the access to the attic was. They rolled-in at about 8:00AM. Despite the lateness, I still rated them an A on Punctuality, because they had the unit installed quickly before the promised time. The guys were great, very courteous and friendly. A supervisor as well as my sales rep came by to check on how things were going and helped out too. Felt sorry for the guy working in the attic; AZ summers are brutal. After the work was done, we went over the checklist of items delivered. I thought they were very professional, mindful of the house, and I felt we were really taken care of.
Description of Work: I've had my Trane unit for 18 years, the condenser outside and air handler upstairs in the attic. Both had to be replaced. Had a few quotes and in terms of cost, availability, quality, and customer representative we went with Howard Air.

They came for an estimate on replacing one of our A/C compressor units and gave us a great price on a Trane unit, saying that it would be compatible with the Lennox air handler that we already had. We were very happy with them, they seemed very honest, nice, knowledgeable, and reasonably priced, plus they had great reviews on Angie's List, which is how we found them. So we canceled another contractor who was ready to do the work the next day, signed a contract with Howard Air, and made an appointment for later that week. They called the day before to cancel and rescheduled for a week later. They didn't show up. When we called, they said the appointment was not until the following sunday, and they did not have the Trane unit we were offered available yet. Ok. So we waited until Sunday, again noone showed up. When we called, they said they were coming on monday, but again, the Trane was not available. Then another employee told us they were not even sure if they had any Tranes available at all, and could maybe give us a different brand instead. Then they said maybe we should just cancel our contract and get someone else to do it (which is what we finally ended up doing). Offering us something you don't have, not making your appointments, and backing out of your own contract is completely unacceptable. Also keep in mind that this is summer in Arizona, and delaying our AC repair for 2.5 weeks was not fun for us. Ridiculous.

Member, Howard Air is completely sorry that your recent experience was less than perfect. We strive to be the best and provide the most honest service in the valley. According to our records we did sit down with you on a Sunday (7/1) to determine best course of action for one the 7 systems currently in your home. By only replacing the condenser unit and not the complete system limited the options available for the current R-22 equipment. Nevertheless, we promised a specific Trane model and had a very hard time getting that model delivered which left us two options; offer a comparable model that is in stock or wait until the model can be located. Unfortunately, we would never want the second option since the comparable models we offered had same efficiency ratings and brand. We apologize for the scheduling misunderstanding which made you believe we were installing on Sunday (7/8). Although, we are available 24/7 for service; installations are only Monday-Saturday. We offered to install on Monday (7/9) but you were unavailable the entire week. We hope you will choose Howard Air for any future business and give us a second chance.

Description of Work: Used coupon purchased from Angie's list for air conditioning maintenance service.They were efficient, punctual, professional. Let us know that we had a capacitorneeding replacement, and that it was under warranty. Suggested we contact thecompany that had installed the system, and they replaced it. Although the second leak was somewhat different than the first leak, I was not charged anything at all for the second repair and recharge. We are certainly pleased that our home is cool now that the outside temperatures are over 110, and that Howard Air resolved the problem without a second cost to us. We highly recommend Howard Air.
Description of Work: We have 2 Rheem heat pumps which were installed over 1 year ago and are still under warranty. Howard Air was not the original installer. One of the heat pumps stopped cooling in April 2012. Howard Air came to our home the same day I called and determined that the evaporator coil had leaked and all the refrigerant was lost. They requested a replacement coil from Rheem, but there were none in Phoenix at that time. The new coil arrived approximately 2 weeks later, and Howard Air installed it and recharged the unit with refrigerant on April 19. The Rheem warranty covered parts but not labor, so I had to pay Howard Air for their work, approximately $1400.Everything seemed fine, and we left town for a long vacation. When we returned home in mid-June, the same heat pump was running, but not cooling. Howard Air again came to our home on June 20, the same day I called. They determined that the unit had again leaked and all the refrigerant was again lost. This time the leak was near the compressor. Julio was able to re-solder the area of the leak and recharge the unit, and it has been operating fine during the 3 weeks since.

They sent someone out to do an estimate, and explained all my options. I got a replacement ac provided by them until my new unit arrived about 2wks later. They are very friendly and clean.

The customer service team was very professional and responsive. I bought a service special for an ac tuneup. They were booked for the week and the soonest appt I could get was 1 1/2 weeks out. My ac unit was overcharged and they fixed it. Everyone in the house (including another licensed contractor) noticed the ac unit was performing much better and the house was cooler. I was not present at the house at the time but the dispatcher fully explained the issues and suggested repairs. It took about 1 month to get a billing invoice which I was hoping to get earlier. The ac tech was professional and knowledgeable. Overall, my impression was they did a great job, knowledgeable, and plan to call them again.

We had a tune up done at our primary residence, which was thorough and well done. Then the A/C broke at our rental property. Our renter had another company come and get it working temporarily, and the company gave us a quote for the remainder of the work. So we called Howard Air to see if they could give it a second look, and they actually explained everything over the phone--what was broken (according to what the other company had found), what the estimate meant, etc. But Howard Air gave us a lower estimate and offered to come out for free to give us a more definite diagnostic. We had them do the work because their cost was cheaper and we felt they were more honest than the other company. The A/C broke again the following week, but not because of anything Howard Air did or didn't do. One of the compressors simply broke, which they warned us might happen because of other problems that had not been taken care of sooner. Although we ended up replacing the A/C with a refurbished used one, Howard Air was very helpful and trustworthy.

I was first called by Howard Air to set up the appointment from information they received noting I had purchased a coupon. Tells me they keep up with the website. Was told I needed to buy two coupons, one for each unit, not a problem. Set up an appointment. Was called prior to appointment to verify. Was called again prior to appointment letting me know where the serviceman was .. and soon after Gabe showed up and started the work. He did a great job, communicated exactly what needed to be done. Completed the job, cleaned up the area and was on his way.I had no complaints at all... great job.

I am extremely pleased with the service I received from Brian & Paul from Howard Air. Paul was the installer that arrived with the units; Paul again went over what Brain previously told me about the installation. Based on the installation, Howard Air has pride in their work and it clearly shows. I would use Howard Air again and I would recommend this company to my friends and family.
Description of Work: My wife and I recently purchased a home. The home inspector stated that the HVAC units needed to be inspected and possibility replaced. I reviewed the HVAC companies on Angie List and received several estimates. I was impressed with the inspection that was given at my home by Brian at Howard Air. Brian explained the condition of the units that we currently have, the duct work and the venting system. He gave us several SEER options and explained the difference of each and also explained the various options on parts and labor warranties on each system. What I really liked about Howard Air was the extremely detailed proposal that was given to me. It very clearly outlined the scope of work as compared to other companies, so there would be no questions on either party. Howard Air's bid was very competitive.

We purchased the Angie's List coupon for A/C tune-up. A/C tune-up turned into in inoperable attic unit!!! Nice folks, punctual professional but in this case they turned a "tune-up" into a broken unit and a potential full replacement! First guy out turned out to be not as wise as I had hoped, a supervisor type made two more visits to fix the situation.New to the valley and Howard Air dominates Angie's List reviews. Further analysis reveals that Howard Air is in bed with Home Depot and other larger contracts. I am now questioning the veracity of Howard Air's Angie's List reviews.We are leaning towards leaving Angie's List due to the questionable "favorable" nature of well-tied in companies. $$$$$$

The first gentlemen that came to my house was in such a rush that he double charged me. I would not send this guy anywhere where he has to work with people because he was in a rush. The second gentlemen that came was friendly, efficient, and helpful. They did have a reasonable price. I did like the fact that they covered their shoes when they walked on my carpet.

When it was installed they put a whole in a door. It was also really loud. We waited to hear from them since we are out of town a lot. They sent us a bill about a month later. They still hadn’t put the sound batting in. They also needed to change something else and fix the door. The manager did come out as soon as possible. He was saying they would need pictures of the door, which was already done previously. He basically said that the things that were promised were not really a part of the package and not represented well. He was really nice about everything. He said we could call if ever needed. We did call on a weekend because the thermostat was changing itself. He said he didn’t do that. He pretty much told us to fix it ourselves. It was really bad customer service.
Description of Work: They insisted on a sales presentation that was over an hour. When all was said and done it was all false information. He purchased a $10,000 AC Unit.

Overall, the job was done as explained, and the technician went into great detail about the drain pan below the air handler (all new words to me) and was very helpful in learning about air conditioning units.

I cancelled before they came out because I think the Deal was misleading.
Description of Work: I cancelled by Big Deal through Howard Air because they would only service one of my units. Like most two-story houses in Arizona, I have two units. I've never had to pay separately for two units before with any other company. Maybe they are a good repair company, be aware that when you buy the deal you have to buy two $69.99 deals if you have a dual zones A/C.

I got them off Angie’s list. They are very unreliable. We signed the contract in April but they never came to install the device. They have placed the order and I called them and they are still not sure when they would get the device. I finally called them and cancelled the contract. My bank had approved the loan, but they could not get the cash until they started the work. Their price was the same as others were charging.
Description of Work: I called Howard Air to come and install two new brand new AC. They called me the day before they were supposed to come and told me that they will not be able to come since they did not have the device in stock.

Howard Air did a good job. It took about 7 to 10 days to finish the job. They were in contact with us, as to when they were to show up and when they were leaving for the day. Todd answered any questions we may have had, and Jeff took great care of the jobsite and his crew. We are remodling our home and asked Howard Air not install the registers and thermostat, which they agreed and even offered to come back later to install the registers, and gave us a temporay thermostat until we were ready for the new thermostat. Todd also kept us informed with rebates and sent the needed information to the utility company. When Jeff returned for a test for rebates he noticed that the ac unit was not working properly and upon inspection found a freon leak, needless to say a manufactures defect. Todd called and informed us of the problem, and Howard Air replaced the ac unit and even put a pad underneath the new unit so when it kicks on it cushions some of the noise.
Description of Work: Replace old AC unit with new one and ran all new duct work.

After I had a service call for my cooling/heating units (from a different company), it was made clear that the bigger of my two split systems needed repairs and that it might still fail after repairs. I did much research and used Angie's List. I had spoken to several companies about replacing the unit. I am new to the area, but I know that I cannot risk having the AC not working. I determined that I would need to replace the unit and that it would make sense to purchase a dual compressor system. I met at length with several companies and had a good idea of the costs and options available. Howard Air clearly stood out in terms of the services and costs. They listened very carefully to my concerns and responded well to all of them. They were able to offer me a much higher end unit and additional services for almost no increase in overall cost. They also had by far the best waranty. They were professional, punctual and thorough. Their employees all did a great job of representing the company. They spent about 12 hours on the installation and worked hard the entire time. I would recommend them.
Description of Work: Responded quickly to my inquiry. Came out and did thorough examination of the AC unit in question. Also assessed the second unit to be certain that it did not need replacement. The took before and after video of the issues in the attic and took lots of time to explain all of the issues and solutions .Installlation:They took out the old unit from the attic and installed a new split, dual stage, dual compressor Trane unit. They also corrected any problem issues with the ductwork on my old unit. Installed new touch screen thermostat. In addition they installed a catch pan under my water heater with piping to direct any water leakage to a lower area in garage that would them flow out of garage and not do damage to interior of garage.

Description of Work: Was a very good experience. We needed to trust a new company (for our HVAC needs) since our previous one of 30 plus years died.We are set up now for an annual checkup. I could hear the fan thingy in the A/C was struggling to turn off and on. I live in AZ and air conditioning is right up there with food and shelter ! The dispatch person Ray was nice and helped me out. I called and they fixed my A/C same day. Gabe ( the technician) wore booties around his shoes as a courtesy. He was very nice, explained everything, and honored the 10% off since we were Angie's List.Now I gotta tell you I moved 2000 miles away from my home and having a resource like this is huge! I am satisfied with the work done and would recommend this company to others. Be knowledgeable about what you want and expect from any contractor/vendor. Be prepared to be involved with what's occurring and ask questions. You should feel comfortable with the interaction, as I was in this instance. Final do: use Angie's List!
Description of Work: The tech arrived on time (with booties, so as not to track dirt inside!), was communicative, reviewed what my earlier home inspector had noted, and got to work. The compressor needed an immediate repair, the reason for which the tech explained to me. Given the age of my system (24+ years), we agreed that while many additional components might fail at any time without some attention, it would be best to hold off replacing them until the system failed, and then just replace the compressor and air handler all at once, rather than dribbling money away on increasingly expensive repairs.

The price was included in the previous service they did. They didn't charge us anything for that. It was a good company. The customer service is awesome. We had called them before, and they talked us through an issue, which we had one weekend. They didn't charge us for it. The guy on the call helped us with the problem. We recommend them.

Howard Air was the third of three quotes to have ductwork replaced in our home. The quote was not only very competitive, but they were the only company that I had pulled quotes from that would quote both flex duct as well as metal ductwork. I opted for the metal ducting quote which blew the other quotes out of the water. The quoted price included a full rework, everything from the AC unit, all new ductwork throughout the whole house, new ceiling vents, and a new intake. In all honesty, Forrest (sales) really set the tone with his professionalism, prompt responsiveness, and great attitude. He came out and pulled the details for the quote. He had 2 quotes to me within 2 days, and once we had signed off on the quote, he was back out within a few days to create a survey for the crew that would be doing the job. Their retrofit team arrived about 15-30m earlier than I expected Friday morning, but I wont dock them for that as they had plenty to do. At one point I believe I had five or six guys up in the attic working on pretty much everything. I had the wife take the day off so she could direct placement of the supply vents. It took their team about 20 hours from start to finish (2 days). At one point she felt she was being nitpicky, but Kyle was exceptionally easy for her to work with as he went through the house getting feedback for each vent location before cutting out drywall. At one point there was a miscommunication on vent location, but Kyle corrected it on the spot and the drywall guy came out today and fixed it. These guys were PRO in the very sense of the word. Everyone was courteous, knowledgeable, and was willing to take the time to explain anything that we had questions about. They cleaned up everything behind them and made good on everything requested. I would like to give a huge "Thanks" to Forrest, Denny, Kyle, Ron and David for seeing this project through from top to bottom. All of our expectations were met with Howard Air.
Description of Work: Install new ducting system correcting existing flashing at the AC unit to correct tonnage loss (existing ductwork had a twist at the AC unit preventing good breathing). Install new above-truss insulated metal ductwork throughout home with short flex runs to the rooms to deaden the tornado effect. Install new ceiling registers in all rooms (4 in LR, 1 in Pantry, 2 in BRs, 3 in BRs) with room for one more expansion included in quote for an unfinished room at a later date. Install larger intake to improve breathability (hallway ceiling intake).

We decided to replace the air-conditioner/ heat-pump that was installed when the house was built ('90's) with a new energy efficient unit. At the same time we wanted the swamp cooler next to it removed since we hadn't used it in a year or so. We got bids from several companies, including Howard Air. While Howard Air was not the cheapest bid (two companies were below them), we were VERY impressed with their professionalism and knowledge of what we wanted. Brian, their Sales Guy, came out on a Saturday to survey and do a bid. He spent a long time (longer than the other bidders) going around and inside the house, including on the roof and in the attic. When he was done we sat and discussed options in detail. While he did try to up-sell a bit, it wasn't obnoxious and we talked around a lot of things. His price was higher than I wanted to pay but after some "negotiating" we agreed to do the deal. A date was set and off he went. The day before installation we hadn't heard anything from Howard Air so I called them. The guy who came on the line apologized profusely for not calling to confirm but said they were good to go for 7am the next morning. At a few minutes before 7am, two techs arrived. One explained what they were going to do and they got to work. Crane showed up later that morning and it took maybe 15 minutes to lift the old units off and place the new unit. They then worked until about 3 when the job was done, including working on the thermostats, replacing the inside air intake and making sure everything was working correctly, They explained what had been done, went through a couple of checklists and left. Very good, very professional installation. I would use them again in a heartbeat and highly recommend Howard Air. The only minor negatives were: we paid more than we wanted (but I think I got good value for the price), one of the techs was going to come back the Monday following Friday's install to check some settings but never showed up, we were supposed to get additional warranty/ maintenance info but haven't received it yet.
