This is the second time we've used Day and Night and they have been consistently first-rate. This time, the downstairs A/C unit was not putting out cool air. Running but not cooling. We had a tech -- Jeff -- out here within hours. He quickly diagnosed the problem as a bad run capacitor and replaced it on the spot. He also ran diagnostics on both units and checked out Freon, connections and so on. Two important notes: 1. As they did the last time we used them, Day and Night scheduled us as fast as possible. They also called us with updates on the tech's arrival time. And, like last time, he showed up exactly when they said he would. Jeff was also very friendly and competent. 2. A few years ago, we had to replace the identical part -- run capacitor -- on the upstairs unit. Same part, same labor required, and not even on a Saturday. That outfit charged us over $400. Ridiculous but how can we know? When it's broiling outside you don't have time to research replacment part costs. So, another top-notch service call from Day and Night. Very highly recommended. Hope we don't need them again for awhile but this is definitely our go-to company for A/C and heating service.

I bought an Angie's List Big Deal coupon for an A/C tune-up for $45. I assumed this would cover my whole house. There might have been small print that specified the deal was only for one unit. If so, that's my bad. The experience started with the technician showing up promptly at 8:00am. It went downhill from there. He told me he kind of thought maybe the Big Deal coupon only covered one unit. I asked him to call in to the office to confirm that, which he did. He then told me he could do the other unit for an additional $45. My opinion is that, for $90, I could call any company and get that same "deal," so I no longer felt I was getting any particular value for my money. My biggest issue with this technician is that he didn't tell me anything. He just wandered around and did what he did, and at the end handed me a piece of paper and asked me to sign it. If I hadn't started asking questions, I feel he would simply have gone, with no communication whatsoever. I started with the basics: "Is the system okay? Did you find any problems? Is there anything we should be doing?" He told me everything seemed fine. The report, I felt, was not informative. Except for one line, which indicated a status of "good," each line simply said, "checked." Was that a good checked, or a bad checked? No indication. He did tell me my pan in the air handler in the attic was rusty. He said it would be $700 to fix that and add a switch. He started talking about R-somethings and a bunch of other technical-sounding jargon, but he didn't explain what any of it meant. When I asked him to clarify, he simply repeated the same information. I was left feeling confused and frustrated. In the end, my experience with Night & Day Air Conditioning wasn't *bad*. Rather, it was simply blah.

Great attitudes from start to finish.
Description of Work: Very difficult to reach clogged drainage pipe from drip pan. Second visit needed and they did not charge. Both men very helpful and professional. Would absolutely use them again.

The job went pretty well. I don’t like anyone to read my thought or step ahead of me. This guy was little bit behind me. He probably knew his work. I did not feel he was confident. I have a five year warranty on my air conditioner. His price was reasonable. I’m not sure If I would use him in the future.
Description of Work: I used Day and Night Air Conditioning last week on Thursday. We have a service contract with them. They come out twice a year.

From the first contact online to the end of the visit, we were completely happy with the service we received. I first sent an email asking the company whether they did service RUUD products. I had looked online and since the company website showed only goodman systems, I was afraid they only service this brand. Also my unit is still under warranty from the manufacturer and wanted to check with them if they would honor the warranty. I had also ask a question about my drain pipe not dripping at all and whether it was normal. The answer was really really quick. I received an answer for all my questions even the one about the drain pipe and receive the price on how much it would cost to come and check our system. The other good surprise is that when I called back I was able to have an appointment the next day. The next day, CJ showed up at our door in the time bracket offered the day before. He called a bit earlier to let me know he was on its way. He had his small blue booties in his hands in case they were needed to enter the house. He listened very patiently to our concerns and explained our choices. We decided to buy a yearly maintenance plan that would include the cost of today's visit. The yearly plan includes a visit at the start or slightly before the cooling season and another at the start or before the heating season. Out of the $305 we paid that day, $179 were for the plan. Some days later, I received a call from Day & Night asking me whether we were happy with the service. I think it's really a nice plus because it gives you an opportunity to say something if something is not completely right after the visit. Of course, $300 is a lot of money. But I am very happy that CJ found the damaged wire before I had to call because the unit stops functioning. Also reloading with refrigerant is not something you do every year. I just hope that buying a plan will help lengthen the life of my system and prevent more expensive repairs. I was really happy with the answers, service level and kindness and the people from Days and Nights.
Description of Work: CJ did a complete inspection of our Cooling system. Found a damaged small electric wire going to the compressor capacitor and replaced it. After checking the charge, added some R410 refrigerant . He cleaned the outdoor coils that were really dirty. After putting everything back, checked that everything was working.

I suspected that my digital programmable thermostat was not working but wanted to get a professional to confirm my findings and install a new one in case I got over my head trying to install one myself. I used Day & Night based on the ratings and comments on Angie's List and because I had a $20 service coupon from an Angie's List email I received. They were friendly and competent on the phone and were able to get me in the schedule promptly. Jerry, the technician, was courteous and professional. He wore shoe covers in the house and covered the carpet where he placed the ladder to climb into the attic. I hated spending nearly $300 to change out a thermostat but the coupon eased the pain and I wanted to get the system checked out anyway since we recently bought the house and summer was starting. I was happy with the service and would refer & use them again.
Description of Work: Technician verified that one thermostat was not signaling air conditioning unit to come on. He climbed into the attic to confirm that it was not a faulty control board. He installed and set up a Honeywell 6000 digital programmable thermostat, and then checked that it turned on the heat and cooling to appropriate levels.

They were thorough and came when they said they would come. They did good follow up. They sent their inspector to check everything out after they installed it. We haven't had any troubles since they came.

This work was done on an occupied rental house which I own. I live on the other side of town so handled my part by phone with the tenants present for the actual work. After the first warm weekend of the year, my tenants called to say that the a/c was blowing but the air was not cold. Also 2 of the toilets in the house were continually running. They did not feel comfortable taking care of the plumbing issue as it was more than one, they felt it needed more skill to repair than they had. I got the name of this company from Angie's List and was happy as it seemed they could do both repairs. I was looking for someone that could take care of it quickly for a reasonable price. They were very prompt in scheduling. Note I was warned that EACH repairman requires a separate service call fee. The plumbing serviceman was there the same day. He performed the work that day as well - it involved rebuiding some of the parts inside the tank as they had corroded over time. The tenants have had no further complaints regarding the toilets. I definitely could have had the work done for less by a handyman (and wish I did) but I wanted to get it done, he was already there & seemed professional, and I had paid the call fee. The a/c tech came the next day and gave me an estimate as far as what was wrong with my unit and the cost. I did not have this company perform the work on my air conditioner and here is why: Both the plumber and the a/c tech strongly recommended just replacing the entire unit. The plumber went as far as saying I should replace all the toilets in the house (there are 4, 2 of which work just fine). I really felt that they were pressuring me to do the full replacement. Though I could get a "good deal", it would have cost at least twice what I paid for a repair on the a/c about 4 times on the toilets! And both were problems that could easily be repaired. As far as overall cost, they were in the ballpark with other companies, but I really did not appreciate being pressured that way and almost felt they were taking advantage of the fact that I was not on site. This is why my overall grade for the company is low. The work I had them perform was done promptly and correctly for a decent price but the whole issue of the pressure sale really bothered me. We did a major whole home remodel and have had experience with all sorts of contractors. I can understand trying to upsell and give all options but this was beyond. No one ever called meagain to follow up on the a/c estimate to see if I wanted to go ahead with it. The other issue of note is that I never received any kind of receipt. I have called twice over a period of a couple weeks just to remind them I still need receipts (which I should not have to ask for in the first place) and was told they would be emailed. I have not received anything to this day.
Description of Work: Estimate for an outdoor a/c unit that was not blowing cold air. Repair on 2 toilets that would not stop running.

Your review sounds like it should be for one of those companies that is commission based where a technician is rewarded for upselling. Our technicians are paid by the hour and trained to be thorough and offer the client options. The plumber did offer you a price to replace all 4 of the toilets because they were old and discontinued. He only intended it to be an option for you to consider, he ended up happily repairing the items you requested and as you described "promptly and correctly" Our a/c technician recommended you purchase a new system over repairing the existing was because your system is a low end Goodman that is over ten years old and had a bad compressor. He found that your system had freon with an acid smell which means that your system is contaminated and SHOULD be replaced. I stand by his decision to recommend replacement vs. repair. I wish that you could have been present during the visits because I believe your opinion of our intentions would have been different. Pulled the company information from Angie's list and liked the reviews so I called and set up an appointment, the reviews did not disappoint. The contact was polite and very helpful, she even called to see if I was available for an earlier time slot. The service tech called me 20 - 30 minutes prior to arriving and was on time. He was upfront with what was needing repair and confirmed my agreement for the repairs prior to starting the project. This experience is why I am a member of Angie's list. From the time I contacted Terry in the office to schedule the appointment, to the time Jason the plumber left, everything went smoothly. I contacted Day and Night to have a repair made on the powder room toilet where the tank meets the bowl (small leak); was a gasket that needed to be replaced. Jason told me the price before starting work. He then moved on to removing and replacing the master bath toilet with a new one I purchased (again telling me upfront the cost). Work was completed promptly, the old toilet removed from the house and the new one works great. I have used Day and Night for 5 or 6 years now and I am very satisfied with them. I refer them to my neighbors and friends; they are prompt, professional, and trusted.

My old heat pump died. When the repair person from Day & Night told me it would be over 1K to repair, I decided to have a new heat pump installed. He was able to give me an estimate at that time. The heat pump was installed a few days later, which would have been bad news in the middle of summer. The installation people were professional and did not leave a mess when the job was completed. A few days later the original repair person returned and "tuned up" the unit. I was pleased with the company and would not hesitate to refer them to others.

I was able to get a tech here within 48 hours. The company was outstanding at keeping me up to date on his arrival time. Kent showed up exactly when they said he would. Very friendly and professional. Performed a number of diagnostics on my system and determined the problem was with the circuit board. Got the heat going again and discussed my options for a more long-term repair (this is 12-year-old "contractors special" heat/ac, so it's about that time!) I was extremely happy with the service, the technician and the entire experience and will definitely call Day & Night the next time I need service.

All went great! Everything worked just fine afterwards. Didn't take long to complete. Have used them quite a few times and always treated professionally, can ask questions, give quotes with no problems,, courteous and friendly. Have no problem referring them to friends and family.

I've researched the file and we charged you $79 to come to your home and diagnose the system. I do wish you would give us another chance in the future after weighing the benefits of doing business with a company that has been in operation for almost 30 years with the same phone number and without complaints. I found the company I called on Angie's list, with an A rating. The technician arrived on time and opened up and looked through the air conditioning unit, and showed me exactly what was causing the noise. He then explained to me a variety of ways to deal with the noise and calculated what they would cost. He did not pressure me into buying anything. I decided that since the AC is actually functioning well, and the hot weather season is almost over, to put off the repairs until next spring, so that I can put aside money for this rather large expense over the winter. The technician was also a Good Samaritan. While he was there, two neighbor children aged 5 and 8 came over to my rental house. They had just come home from school to find the front door locked and their caregiver sound asleep, unaware the kids were ringing the doorbell. They saw the front door open of my rental house and walked in. The nice technician went over to their house and pounded on their front door for them - twice. (However, it was not until I summoned the police, who pounded on their door with a flashlight, that the caregiver woke up and let the kids in.)
Description of Work: One of my rental units has a noisy air conditioner. Technician conducted a thorough inspection of the air conditioning unit. He then made recommendations, with exact prices, of various methods to address the problem.

They were prompt, professional, personable and clean. The representative who inspected the house and gave us a quote was not pushy or demanding. He spent a good deal of time working with us to determine what would work best for us and our needs. He did not try to up-sell us or push us towards something we didn't want. He got to know us as people first. When we decided to engage their services they were right on schedule for the whole project. The installation team was the same. They worked non-stop to take care of us, but they were open and responsive to our questions. They were very friendly, but total professionals. They seemed to care about us and our comfort. They cleaned up as they went so the mess was minimal to non-existent. When everything was all complete two separate representatives (the project leader and our sales rep) came back for a final walk through to make sure everything was working properly and we understood the new system. Excellent warranty on the work and the hardware. I’d recommend them again.
Description of Work: We had them replace our old (20 years) a/c unit, our furnace, run new duct work, and connect two rooms to the whole cooling system.

Thank you for a good report, I noticed that we came out in August to unclog a condensate drain line from your a/c unit and want you to know that this can be avoided with proper maintenance. In our maintenace plan we will flush the drain and clean the coil and pan so that any dirt build up doesn't get a chance to become a clog. This cleaning will help with health and efficiency. The technician (Ron) came out on a Saturday about 3 hours after I first called. One of our units was not putting out cool air. Ron checked out the problem and determined that the unit was low on freon. He took care of the problem and checked the results outside and in. Ron was very cheerful and answered all of my questions (I watched while he worked and asked a lot of them). He explained that I really didn't need to have the other two units checked out if they were working OK, that it wouldn't pay for itself even if they were a little low on freon. He explained that it would be better to wait until next spring so that I could get full use out of the inspection. I found him very pleasant, honest and easy to work with. I also was impressed that I could call on a Saturday afternoon and get someone out here that same day.
Description of Work: Checked out air conditioning unit. Added two pounds of freon.

I called Day and Night on Friday evening because my A/C was completely out requesting a service call the following day (Saturday). I spoke to Cory and explained my situation and was told that they could be at my house between 3 and 6pm. I guess I must not have sounded very excited about this because she told me that she would make some calls and see if they could fit me in earlier since I had absolutely no A/C. To my surprise, she called me back about 30 minutes later and said she was able to rearrange another appointment and they would see me between 9 and 11am. Above and beyond the call of duty! The technician (Ron) arrived about 9:20 the next morning - prompt and professional. He was very helpful in showing me exactly what the problem was and what he would do to correct it. Ron also suggested some further repairs that would ultimately need to be made to my system. When I explained that we were selling the house and I didn't really want to spend more than I had to, he gave me the prices for the additional work but did not pressure me at all to have it performed. I was so pleased with my entire experience that I called Day and Night the same day to schedule an A/C tune-up on my new house.

Our 18-year-old heat pumps needed to be replaced. In late April, after using Angie's List to narrow a list that I had drawn up on my own, we got estimates from three companies and were impressed with all three. I eliminated one of them because I found out too late that it no longer sells Goodman/Amana air conditioners. I had done some research and felt that Goodman and Amana systems, which are made by Goodman, offer the best value, especially in view of their warranties. Mike from Day & Night did a great job of explaining our options. And he later was available if we needed to pick up the phone and ask another question. Day & Night's price was the lowest of the three, but that wasn't our only consideration. The installers were polite and hard-working, and they really know their stuff. The installation of the air handlers was tricky, but they met the challenge and gave us an installation that I'm convinced is better than what the builder gave us 18 years ago. I should note that all three estimators said that the attic air handler would be more efficient after they were done. Anyway, my wife and I were really impressed by the customer service and quality of work from beginning to end. Everyone, from the office personnel that we talked with several times to Mike the estimator to the installers, showed that they know their business and care about their customers. I waited until now -- about 2 months later -- to write a review because I wanted to be sure that the new air conditioners were working properly. Are they ever! They are much quieter than our old ones, and the temperature stays right where we want it. I haven't seen enough utility bills yet to know how much money and energy we are saving. We used to use a different company for our AC tuneups and repairs, but we plan to stick with Day & Night -- especially since our new systems are under warranty. By the way, the $13,000 price is before utility rebates and the federal tax credit.
Description of Work: Day & Night installed two new high-efficiency heat pumps and air handlers. They also did quite a bit of duct work to position the attic air handler better than the old one, which was installed when the house was built in 1992. They also rebuilt the platform that the other air handler sits on in the garage (the old one was no longer level).

Thursday around 6 p.m. I got home and it felt warmer than I thought we had the thermostat set at. The inside unit was running but no cold air was coming out of the ducts. I checked the outside compressor/fan unit, but it was not running. I called the company we have a service contract with, but they would not be able to come until the next day, after lunch. So I checked Angies's List for another contractor and found Day & Night. I liked their Eco listing, and their high grades. Cori answered their phone, (I'd had to wait for a callback from the other company's answering service) and said a techician could get there later that evening. Cori checked with the technician twice to find out when he could be there and he arrived later right on time, only an hour or so after I called. Ron, the technician, was a friendly guy and listened while I explained what were the system symptoms. He then got his tools and checked the unit. He found that the high pressure trip had popped, and showed me where it was and explained what it does, and how I could reset it if it should happen again. He also ran a number of checks of the current to different components, and the FREON pressure, as if too high could cause the system to trip also, he explained. Everything checked out OK, and he explained that it could be the motor (over 14 years old) wearing out and failing in the late afternoon heat. He said we might want to think about replacing it if it failed the next day after running that night, but I said, since he was here, he might as well save me a service call later and change it now. He checked his truck, but didn't have the right motor, even going to the trouble of showing me what motors he had and what the differences were. He also suggested that we upgrade to a slightly higher amp motor. So I told him to let his office know we needed them to schedule a technician out the next day to replace the motor with the larger unit. But, then the AC compressor failed to engage, and after a could of further tests, he found that the run capacitor the service company had put in a few months ago, was failing. Ron was showing me each test he was performing each time, due to my interest, and his desire that I know what was going on and that he wasn't giving me a song and dance. So Ron replaced the run capacitor with one he had on his truck, and the AC system ran fine all night and the next day. My wife enjoyed Ron's manners and professionalism and asked if he could be the tech that came out the next day. He asked that she call the office and request him, and they probably would schedule him to be back. The next day, he was back as scheduled and had the motor replaced in short order. One of the reasons I decided on Day & Night was their Eco certifications. I work in the environmental field, and the extra EPA certifications, the extra level of training Ron had taken, and obvious knowledge reinforced their company's assertion that they are indeed an "Eco" company. Oh yeah, he also gave me an estimate of what units I could replace mine with, at my request, and showed where I could get a much better unit with a higher SEER rating, than a similar unit to mine, for about the same price due to APS rebates. His estimates were also about $1000 less than the company we have the service contract with. We'll be changing our service company to Day & Night too.

Ultimately, a price differential of $1,000 was the deciding factor in choosing Day and Night. We were looking at the same heat pump with different two different HVAC companies along with new air return vents, and Day and Night's price was $1,000 lower. We are very pleased with the result. Our house is cool and the additional air returns have helped circulation. We rated Day and Night on a few categories as a "B". Their response time -- after we confirmed we wanted them to install our heat pump -- was a bit delayed. With it being over 100 degrees, the difference in response time of 1 day can feel like forever. That being said, they did come out and rig our old AC unit to put out cool air until the permanent heat pump could be installed. We also gave them a "B" because clean-up was not at an "A" level. There was a lot of cutting of plaster inside to put in the new return vents, and as a result, a lot of dust. They did a good job of containing it to the areas of the new vents -- plastic sheeting taped around the area -- but clean up in the area itself was just OK. A few months ago we had new windows installed, and when they finished, there was NO dust whatsoever. In this case, there was dust, albeit not a lot -- just enough to know there had been some construction in the room recently. These are minor issues in the grand sceme of things. We would definately go with Day and Night again. We have switched our seasonal maintenance plan to them as a result of their good work.
Description of Work: Our 20 year old AC quit in late May. We decided to get multiple quotes to replace it -- in spite of wanting to get a replacement quick. We used Angie's List to get two other quotes, in addition to the one we got from the company that did our routine seasonal maintenance. I'm glad we did. The two companies we got off of Angie's List were much better than the one that did our regular maintenance (and we will have Day and Night do the maintenance from now on.) We replaced our HVAC unit with a heat pump, and relocated the unit to the roof versus the side of the house where air circulations was limited. We also had new air intake vents installed.

The work cost me around $500. They came out on a weekend and they wanted to sell me a new air conditioner. They didn?t want to spend the time to repair the old one. However, I convinced them to repair the same. The air conditioner worked fine after that. The work that they did lasted, but the guy that came out was rude and pushy. I had called 5 other companies and they were the only company to return my call. They were okay when it came to punctuality. However, I will not consider them for any future requirement.

I have reviewed the invoice and spoken to the technician but because this happened 5 months ago he wasn't able to recall. Kent has been with us for 5 years now and this is the first time anyone has alerted me with this kind of experience with him. Our company prides itself on being extremely friendly and I wish you would have called me personally at that time. As far as trying to get you to purchase a new unit my only comment is that indeed I would agree that spending $500 to repair a 20 year old unit deserves some sort of dialogue that it may make sense to consider replacing rather than repairing.
