Our air-conditioner quit on a Saturday at 11 o?clock in the morning and they had someone here at 2 in the afternoon. It again quit on Sunday morning and they sent a man out at noon and he fixed it again. He was very good and did not charge us for anything.
Description of Work: We used Magic Touch Mechanical Inc. in August and cleaned the coil and replaced the relay on our air-conditioning unit.

We replaced both “gaspack” units (combined gas heating and compressor cooling) on top of our residence. Since this was August in Phoenix, I expected to have trouble even finding somebody to do the job (several hours on the roof-top in 100+ weather). I was pleasantly surprised. The company sent out a consultant the next day. This person arrived on time and did a thorough review of our heat/cooling needs, in order to choose appropriate equipment. The installation was done the following week, by a crew that arrived on time and was courteous, friendly and efficient. I was impressed with the foot-gloves they used when entering the house to set up the thermostat and test the units. The subcontracted crane arrived on time, as did the recycle truck to collect the old units. The entire job was finished in less than the 4 hours I had allotted to stay home. The company followed up with us, for quality control and also forwarded the important rebate and tax information. I intend to use the same company to do duct-work in our attic, which we will do after the weather cools a bit. I will recommend the company to my neighbors and friends.

Air conditioner stopped cooling early Monday afternoon. Called the company that had installed it new 4 years ago; they sent a service rep within 3 hours. The rep said a new compressor was needed, asked if it was still under warranty, this after the office people knew it was on the initial call. He then said they would have to see if they could find a compressor: this from one of the manufacturer's approved installers. He gave an estimate of $1295 to install the new compressor and said he would call the next morning by 8:30. Overall, he did not give me any positive feeling. He did call in the AM to say they were trying to locate a compressor and would call back. At this point I turned to Angie's List and saw Magic Touch at the top. Called mid-morning Tuesday and they said someone would arrive between noon and four PM. Lathe, dressed in a crisp, clean uniform, arrived at 11:30 AM and 1/2 hour later gave the same diagnosis as the original installer. His demeanor was positive and customer friendly. He also said the compressor could arrive shortly with another worker to help install. He gave a labor bid that was slightly higher than the original installer's, but with the 15% coupon on Angie's List for new customers it worked out well! Needless to say, Magic Touch was hired. Oh yes: the other company called somewhere in this time frame to say a compressor had been located and were going to pick it up: they were told not to bother. The other worker arrived soon thereafter with the compressor, and the installation was completed in the time frame that Lathe had indicated. Maybe I shouldn't tell this, but Lathe was a help in another air conditioning situation. My son-in-law's Jeep air conditioner stopped cooling on Monday (bad air conditioning day!) and Lathe overheard a conversation about that. He politely offered to have a look; he did and said it only needed to be charged. I made an AutoZone run and he was right: bonus! Thanks Lathe! This is the company for you: they don't promise what they can't deliver. And execute it in a prompt, professional and courteous manner. I always felt like I had the RIGHT information and ALL the information needed to make a decision.

We came back from vacation to a very HOT house on Friday. Tried the original subcons that installed the AC units when the house was built and they couldn't respond til the following wed. I emailed Magic Touch at 10:30PM online for a service request Friday night; they called me back at 7:30AM the next morning and had a serviceman on site at 8:30AM. Lathe was very knowledgeable and knew the issue right away, poor airflow had cause the AC unit coils to freeze up which prevented the unit from cooling at all. He did an excellent job explaining the situation and also offered to come back later the same day after the unit had defrosted to do service the unit. Turns out I also needed 3lbs of freon in my unit. By Saturday night, we were back in air conditioned comfort.
Description of Work: AC unit coils had frozen over and no air was flowing. Upstairs was 94F at 1AM in the morning.

Our A/C unit went out on the Sunday afternoon, and after reading the reviews on several companies here on Angie's List, I called Magic Touch to schedule an appointment. They scheduled an appointment for the next day, but due to my work schedule, I had to reschedule for the Tuesday. The technician, Eric, arrived promptly and pinpointed the problem within minutes, suggested the best fix, and had our system back up and running within 15 minutes! He didn't stop there, though, he did a complete inspection, including the air handler in the attic. I was very pleasantly surprised at the cost, and very impressed with the company overall. I would highly recommend them to anyone.
Description of Work: Replaced burned out start capacitor on the compressor (dual capacitor), so that the unit now has two individual capacitors, one for the fan, the other for the compressor. Completed full diagnostic check of the system.

Sergio, the technician, arrived right on time. He performed a check-up and diagnostic. He said capacitors and fuses needed to be replaced on non-working A/C unit and recommended cleaning of the indoor coil as well. Sergio was efficient with his time, explained the recommended work in detail and, overall, was very friendly and professional. He suggested purchase of a service plan, which cost an extra $99, but reduced the cost of the work done by 15%.

Sergio has been with us for several years now and we are glad we have him on our team. As you experienced we spend quite a bit of time training our technicians, helping them earn the highest qualifications, and making sure they are equipped to deliver the ultimate customer experience. All of our trucks carry a significant amount of inventory in order to get your equipment up and running as quick as possible and avoiding trip charges to go pick up parts needed for repairs. The $69 diagnostic fee covers their trip to your home, fuel costs, the technicians pay, etc. I caution people all the time not to fall for the $49, $39, or sometimes less "service call" price that many companies advertise as "if the charge doesn't cover their costs, they have to make it up somewhere". Usually they bury it in higher parts costs or even worse...pay their technician by commission which leads to unnecessary repairs. I do know what you mean however because it seems like everything including the cost of lunch is too expensive nowadays! Thanks again for your review. I reported a waterline leak with the evap. cooler bleed off pump and that the equipment had recently been serviced. Company informed me they would perform a system maintenance check instead. All I needed was for them to come out and fix the water leak. They would not agree to check and/or fix the leak.
Description of Work: I reported a water leak from evap. cooler. Company set up appt. for one week out then informed me there was a $69 fee for a system check.

Your report is more than a little unfair and even partially untrue. I believe you've uncovered the problem here in your own words… "I still have a leaking cooler and have yet to find any company who will come and repair just what I need done. The fact that multiple companies have told you they will need to do their own diagnosis in order to make repairs should tell you something. What we told you UP FRONT was; we charge $69 to come to your home, figure out the exact problem with your system and then give you the repair cost based on our findings. We call this our “diagnosis” fee because we diagnose your problem and present you with a solution. The truth for the rest of Angie’s List readers is; this person did not want to pay us the $69 diagnosis fee to come and figure out what was causing her leak. Instead she hung up on our Customer Service Rep. while she was still speaking to her, because she felt she had already diagnosed the problem and shouldn’t have to pay for us to come out. What we tried to explain to her was we needed one of our certified, qualified, trained technicians to diagnose the problem in order for us to repair her problem, provide a lifetime workmanship guarantee on that repair, back that repair with a one year parts warranty, etc. The fact that this leak is happening right after she just received service from another company speaks for the fact that we need to perform our own diagnosis in order to determine the problem and fix it right. We never did get to the bottom of why she did not call that company back, but that’s a whole other story I guess. The other thing I would like Angie’s members to know is we never even got her on our schedule in the first place. She called, requested service, spent 15 minutes trying to explain to us why we shouldn’t charge her a fee to diagnose her problem, and then hung up. She then called back three days later gave a different CSR all of her information and when it came time to schedule the appointment got mad because a different CSR told her the same thing about our diagnosis fee! It is terribly unfair of you to take your frustrations out on our good name, we didn’t cause your equipment to leak, and you have the option of choosing 1,700 air conditioning companies in Arizona to repair your equipment. If you didn’t like our policy or price you simply could have called another company. The fact that multiple companies have told you the same thing should have indicated that your philosophy was just plain wrong. Your request is the equivalent of you telling your doctor you need heart surgery and him or her just scheduling the surgery without performing his or her own diagnosis,it just makes no sense! We take great pride in our excellent reputation and I believe the forty something “A” reports from clients who have actually used our services and the Angie's List Super Service Award two years in a row speak for how we do business. I take the time to respond to everyone who writes a review because I care about our clients. I even respond to the untrue and illegitimate reports now too.

We received a call from Magic Touch at 10am, asking if we were available for an earlier appointment today. The "scheduled" window was between 1p-4p. Our response was SURE!. Hard to imagine a company would want to come earlier than scheduled!. Our service tech, Jack, was polite ad knowledgeable. While our unit is not that old, (less than 10 years), he found burning on a component and pointed out the fact that electrical arcing could pose a significant future problem if not taken care of. While T thought to myself "yeah sure", Jack had taken photos with his blackberry and showed them to me. He also showed me other photos of a problematic drain line and and gaps in taping around the base of the plenum, which he recommended be taken care of as well. As I can no longer get up on my roof to examine any problems / potential problems, photo evidence cleared up any doubts that I had. After we authorized the repairs, and had the repairs performed, he took pictures again of the finished work, and showed us the damaged component. We then were offered, and purchased a one year service contract. We are rating the value received from using Magic Touch as "more than our monies worth", because of the following: 1. The demeanor and knowledge of the tech Jack 2. The "no pressure" approach 3. The fact that he could show us evidence of recommended and completed repair 4. A "good company" is often hard to find
Description of Work: This company was contacted subsequent to a referral from APS for an A/C "check-up", at the quoted price of $59.95.

Prior to the appointment, I was called by Dennis from Magic Touch who went over all the advantages and disadvantages of evaporative cooling. After talking with him for 15 minutes I decided I should stick with the high efficiency air conditioning units we already had rather than spending a large sum of money on a very high maintenance product.
Description of Work: I submitted a request for an appointment to see about having a whole house evaporative cooling system installed. We used Magic Touch for our two new Trane air conditioners several years prior and were very happy with them. I was called with-in an hour and an appointment was set for that afternoon..

A/C was fine. Mastercool needs some work but when technician learned we had a warranty company for home services repair he gave a detailed order of what needed to be replaced/repaired by the other company. Very professional and thorough, even though he knew his company wouldn't be doing the work. (If the amount of repair had been smaller we would have foregone the warranty company and had Magic Touch do it). One disappointment: After making the appointment for service, we saw a TV advertisement that touted a/c tune up for $20 less than our quoted price. The technician said he could not honor that because the ad was established in agreement w/ another utility company and the utility actually paid them the difference between their regular costs and the ad cost. But overall, I was happy with the service. He took his time and was thorough with explaining the problem and diagnosing it, but didn't waste any time.

I am impressed that the company has been quick to respond to e-mail and phone inquiries. The owner of the business sent a full reply to my initial inquiry and description of our problem, just to lay out possible solutions, before the technician came to investigate. The technician spent considerable time looking at various factors related to our lack of adequate hot water, and he was friendly, appeared to be knowledgeable, and did what he did for a reasonable price. Although we need to have more done, I can say that our first experience has been very positive. I will continue with this company for this project - and, barring unforeseen issues, will likely want to use them again.
Description of Work: So far, I have just had a technician come to investigate our solar heating system. He went on the roof to investigate any problems with the system (we have had insufficient hot water coming into several bathrooms), climbed in the attic space to check out how the pipes, and did some things with a couple of valves and such to see if the issue was with the solar heater itself or in the pipes. There is more to be done; this was just the initial investigation.

On Christmas day we ended up with no heat, it was blowing cool air. So we called Magic Touch and got their answering service. I asked them to call the next day. They called at 9:30 am and came out at 10:00 am. They looked at the heater and said they had to call Trane to get the part because of the warranty. So he could not get a hold of them because they were closed for the holiday weekend. We were with out heat all weekend long. No fault of the Magic Touch. So when Monday came I called Magic Touch and they said that I would have to pay for the job. First of all I did pay for them to come out. But that was reimbursed to me. So any way we were going back and forth about the warranty and I called Trane a couple of times and they called Magic Touch and they finally got it straightened out. But I the mean time we are freezing and they said I would have to wait until 3:00pm to 6:00pm to get it fixed. I think we should have been first on the list for the repair. So I called them and said my husband who is 78 years old can't stand too much cold. Well they called and came out at 1:00pm. It was finally fixed. So I would recommend this company to anyone because they did do a good job to work everything out and fix the heater.

The men I dealt with were terrific and I am pleased with the total service. Brian Baker the sales representative was professional and knowledgeable. The technician that installed the unit were pleasant and prompt and helpful to operate the new unit. They also advised if I run to any problems to feel free to contact them. It was such a relief to find a repeatable competent and honest company. I also appreciate that the president is vigilant responding to the comments of customers on Angie's List. It appears that he runs a very tight ship.

My A/C unit began making a lot of noise when the fan was on, and got louder over the course of the weekend. I called my regular company, who was unavailable due to a death in the family, and decided to call Magic Touch as they cover my end of the Valley. They told me it up front there would be an additional charge due to the distance, but they were here within 2 hrs of my initial call. Sergio found the problem right away, the blower motor was the problem. Since the unit was 19 years old, we decided to replace the system rather than replace the motor and no work was done. Sergio told me the unit should be all right for use for awhile, until a new system could be installed. And, he was right.

Not perfect, but it went fairly well and I'm pleased. Magic Touch was professional throughout. The individual who did the original estimate figured that we should just run a dedicated duct to the room and had a fairly low estimate (I forget the amount... maybe $175?). When the two technicians came out to do the work, they looked it over and felt that the original game plan from the estimator was probably not the best way to go. He explained that by replacing the box at the blower we'd get air evenly to the ducts and make sure that every room was properly cooled. Professionally handled the plan change, confirmed that this was what I wanted to do, and made sure I was OK with the price. Would have liked lower price, but getting the job done with best option was my top priority.
Description of Work: Long-standing issue with the duct work in my house, home builder did a shoddy job causing issues (one room in particular was always too hot - not enough air flow). The one problematic room was off of a small feed from the blower and then branched off multiple times, with the final destination being the hot room, where there was just no reasonable air flow. Magic Touch corrected the problem by analyzing the duct work and rearranging it to get good airflow throughout the house.

Excellent. Answering service got it started @ 6:30 AM. Follow-up call received by 8 AM. Technician on site at 10:30 AM. It doesn't get any better. Diagnosed problem quickly, offered low cost thermostat (I opted for higher-priced, better quality), and replaced thermostat. Checked entire system, added refrigerant, changed filter and gave a 20% discount on parts and labor when I signed up for 1-year service agreement for $150.

The job went well overall. Went over and above what the last company did a and a half years ago. Went in attic, inspected water leak, fan vibration and air leaks. Gave me estimate and then performed work. Although he recommended fan blower be replaced, he said bearing was going out at only 5 years old. I went up there later and tightened some screws down which made the noise worse, so I think its not the blower! Then he went outside and checked two A/C units outside and said one part in one unit had decreased resistance and might need to be replaced in a year or two. Rest checked out good, though I never saw him check the house filters. Did not cover any of the small air leaks!
Description of Work: A/C was draining into backup drip pan, which he cleaned out the PVC line. Also had A/C check done along with vibration in attic blower fan. Checked for leaks in attic and I wanted a heating checkup.

AC failed overnight and I contacted Magic Touch at 7AM, call was handled by their answering service and Magic Touch called me back with in an hour. They told me they could have a tech their between 11 and 2. They were there at 10:30 and we were repaired and cooling down by 12:30. Sergio was very professional and showed me what needed done and the cost for the service to be performed. He was excellent. He also took the time to explain Magic Touchs annual service contract and timing for having the heating and AC units looked at. Very pleased with the service, will use them again for sure.

Let me start by saying that Magic Touch Mechanical is a terrific company to do business with. My experience has been so positive, that I expect to enter into an annual service agreement with them to take care of our units. Their professionalism and courtesy has been a pleasant reminder that there really are people that value good service over simply making a profit. I obtained 5 bids (I obtained a bid for Lennox systems in addition to the Trane system from one company) from 4 companies (3 on Angie's List) for the replacement of our system. Brian Baker from Magic Touch was the first person out to our home to provide an estimate. Brian answered all my questions about the equipment that Magic Touch provided and focused on the value of doing business without disparaging any of his potential competitors - a quality that ultimately won Magic Touch our business. I had several rounds of increasingly specific and technical questions for Brian, which he professionally and promptly answered. My questions ranged from frustration with APS's rebate program to the potential need for replacing the refrigerant line sets for our new systems. Brian even brought a representative from Trane to a subsequent meeting at our home to ensure that all my questions were answered authoritatively. In the end, Brian's completely positive attitude won the day for Magic Touch. For what it's worth, all bids I received were roughly comparable, with Magic Touch's bid probably being (surprisingly!) the lowest. I scheduled the installation with Brian a couple of weeks out, as he suggested that it might take two days to replace both of our systems. When I had to reschedule our contract signing because of a personal scheduling problem, Brian adjusted quickly, but assured me that our place on the installation schedule was secure. When the day came to install the systems, 4 Magic Touch technicians arrived to do the work. They were quiet (as quiet as you can when you're in a 125 degree attic hanging sheet metal!), polite and clean, completing the installation in a single day. The lead technician reviewed the method for programming the thermostats with me and we had our new systems up and running a day sooner than expected! My view of a company is most influenced not by how they behave when they want my money and everything is working well. Instead, it is what a company does after they've been paid and I have a problem that most influences me. It turns out that we had a couple of hiccups with our new system. The condenser fan on one of our units failed and one of the new thermostats was registering the wrong temperature, resulting in the house being uncomfortably warm. In both cases, Magic Touch stepped up, replaced the faulty units and had us up and running within a day. I can't recommend Magic Touch Mechanical highly enough!
Description of Work: Magic Touch Mechanical removed our two 12 year old Trane split air conditioning and gas heating systems and replaced them with two energy efficient Trane XL19i systems (3 Ton and 5 Ton). The service included removing the old furnaces / air handlers and coils from the attic, removing the condensing units from the outside of the house, fabricating new intake and distribution plenums in the attic, hanging the new systems with a cable support system, installing new drip pans, installing an emergency water sensor shut-off and installing new, digital programmable thermostats.

I KNOW THE ONE SYSTEM HAD A CONDENSER FAN MOTOR PROBLEM RIGHT OUT OF THE GATE AND AS I ASSURED YOU, WE WERE ABLE TO GET THE FAN MOTOR REPLACED VERY QUICKLY. YOU WERE VERY UNDERSTANDING WHEN I EXPLAINED THAT SOMETIMES MECHANICAL COMPONENTS FAIL EVEN ON THE TOP OF THE LINE EQUIPMENT (EXPLAINING EVEN MY OWN BRAND NEW TRANE HAD A VERY SIMILAR PROBLEM RIGHT AFTER I INSTALLED IT) NOW THAT SOME TIME HAS PASSED BOTH YOURS AND MINE ARE RUNNING LIKE CLOCKWORK. They did a good job. They came out on time and were very knowledgeable. It was a difficult thing to install and Mike viewed it as a really big challenge and did a really good job at installing it and getting it right. I would use them again for future work.
Description of Work: They replaced our heat pump and reinstalled the evaporative cooler that had been poorly installed.
