I thought everything turned out fine. They were very polite and nice.

They are really great. They did an energy audit and installed insulation in my ceiling. They were excellent. They were very friendly. They know what they are doing. I had a new unit installed 3 years ago by another company, and it has caused nothing but problems for me. I use them every 6 months to replace the coolant in it. They are honest and thorough. They are very detailed.

Arrived on time. Called be fore coming. Troy was very polite, professional, and patient (given I didn't know the location of the 3rd Air handler). Maned repair efficiently. And explained various service program options.
Description of Work: Identified source of an electrical problem, sought location of Air Handler (in this case no easy chore), and identified actual problem. Replaced blown transformer and wiring outside eaten by rodents!

Thank you so much for your kind words and for choosing Magic Touch! I'm delighted you were so pleased with the service you received from Troy. We are very happy to have technicians of his caliber on the Magic Touch team and are delighted to have wonderful clients like yourself! Rodents chewing through the wires seems to be an epidemic problem in the valley, I think it's safe to say we repair several dozen of these problems per year. Hopefully they will find something tastier than your wires to chew on going forward! Thanks again! Sincerely, Rich Morgan - President - Magic Touch Mechanical, Inc.

Had them out for a routine check up of a Trane unit that they installed just over 2 years ago (Original install costs were $10,000+) They had a couple "suggested" parts that could be replaced. But with the unit being just over 2 years old, I told them I would think it over. Less then 5 days later the unit stopped working. I opted for a second opinion and was informed that the unit was in need of major repair and suggested I might get a better price from the company that installed the unit. I called MagicTouch back, explained the situation and was informed that they would need to come out to run a diagnostic and charge me $75. I asked to speak to the Office Manager, explained the situation, and knowing that we we're facing significant repair charges, inquired if she would exercise some discretion and waive the $75 diagnostic fee. The conversation went very unprofessional from there, she kept insisting that they charged $75. I asked to speak to some one else, she said she was the only I could speak to, asked me again if I wanted to schedule a diagnostic call and i asked one more time about waiving the fee; then she hung up on me. Will never use them again!

As you can see by over 100 reports on Angie's List we are used to getting straight A's from our clients, so I'm quite concerned when I see a report like this and would like to speak with you to get some more details. Our customer service reps are instructed to speak with everyone (clients or vendors) in a manner they would like to be spoken to and are only allowed to end a phone conversation if they are being disrespected or cursed at (which of course is rare but unfortunately does happen from time to time), as nobody should need to take verbal abuse. If this was not the case, I would like to know exactly what happened as we usually see in reports comments like "the office staff was so nice" etc. Without having seen the findings of our technician yet (which I will be looking through asap) I can only assume by your report that the other companies findings were different enough that we could not use their findings to give you pricing on repairs as we do not know the experience level of the other companies technician. We do know how well trained our technicians are and the certifications they have so we can speak with confidence on their diagnosis and recommendations. It is an unfortunate trend that A/C companies will pay their technicians by commission (ours are paid by the hour and do not get more for "major repairs") so we are always suspicious of other companies telling people they need "major repairs" and often find that is not the case at all, which is why it is our policy to perform our own diagnosis rather than just assume the other company's diagnosis is correct and truthful. There are two sides to every story, so I would like to speak with you further as well as the CSR whom you spoke with and assure you, will make a fair decision and take appropriate actions necessary to make sure everyone is treated fairly. I hope we can come to a result that will change your opinion of our company...and your report! Sincerely, Rich Morgan - President - Magic Touch Mechanical, Inc.

Had a burned out compressor for our upstairs AC unit. This was a York unit installed new when the home was built in early 2006. The home was a model for 2 1/2 years which may have led to the early failure of the unit. Perhaps it was just due to the low end York model installed originally. We had had very high maintenance costs with another AC contractor for both of our units, they were NOT contacted for a quotation! MTM assessed the problem, gave us an estimate and even had a "Decision Sheet" to help us with the repair / replace decision. It was obvious we needed a new unit as the estimate to repair was close to $3000. Challen did a manual J report for the area to be served (upstairs) and outlined the rebates etc offered to us. We recieved several quotes (3 others) and the only decision for us was what level of efficiency wqe wanted to install. We decided on the most efficient unit (and quietest) and arranged the date to install. All things were done as proimised, on time, and professional. The crew was neat, organized, pleasant and did thewir job without incident. Now 3 weeks later we are very happy with the operation of the new unit and the noise (meaning the lack thereof) emanating from the unit. This ia a critical issue for us as the unit sits outside the wall from our main den/kitchen area where we spend much of our time.

Things started out well and a major issue with our duct was discovered. They came out 2 weeks later with another company to provide quotes to fix the issues. Their quotes were about 50% higher than the other quotes I received. I used another company to perform the repairs. When I called them back to complete the forms for the APS rebates service (they clearly stated they would do this on the offer I purchased and offered to do it on multiple occasions) they refused to help. I was told they only complete the forms if they do the repairs. This is not what we agreed to. So I now have the repairs done in my house but I am out $500 in rebates because they won't fill out the forms. I would not use them again. They are using the energy audits to bring customers in hoping you won't get quotes from anyone else for repairs. If you want to pay 50% more for insulation and other services after your audit is complete they are the company for you.
Description of Work: I purchased the $100 energy audit from them under the APS program. They came out and performed the energy audit and found areas that required repair. They could not perform a full audit do to a duct issue.

Your report is completely untrue! Angie's List members please refer to all the other reports we have from clients who have purchased an energy audit (including the one's who did not opt to make any repairs) and you will see we have straight A's! To set the record straight. This member CHOSE to use a company that was not qualified or certified by the utility company or Energy Star to make the repairs. Per both Energy Star and the utility company guidelines, all testing and repairs need to be completed by a qualified and certified contractor or they will not qualify for rebates. We already filled out and submitted the necessary paperwork that would have qualified this member for all the rebates, however per the utility company AND Energy Star, ONLY Certified and approved contractors can do the work, and we CAN NOT certify work done by non qualified companies or handymen, per Energy Star guidelines. We charge a fair price and give our clients a quality job as can be seen by reading reports on Angie's List from all of our happy clients who DID get what they paid for. It is unfortunate that this member would choose to tarnish our record for in his own words...choosing to save 50% and using unqualified labor to do so. The irony herein, is the rebates this member would've received for using a certified contractor would've covered the cost difference...and he could've verified he got what he paid for, which I highly doubt he did as the work involved takes years of training and expertise, hence the utility company and Energy Star qualifications of who can do the work. Sincerely, Rich Morgan - President, Magic Touch Mechanical. (Certified HERS Rater, BPI Certified Building Analyst, NATE Certified, Certified Master Heat Pump Technician, and a dozen others)

We applied on-line for the energy audit through Angies List. We called Magic Touch to set up an appointment it was after hours so we were talking to the emergency service operator. She said that the person for regular appointments would call back in the AM. We were called back the next day and the appointment was set. The technician called before coming and showed up on time. The energy audit was very detailed. Jim went in the attic and checked the insulation, the A/C duct work, vents and the A/C air handler. The whole house was put under a vacuum and tested for air leakage points using an IR camera.. The outside Heat pump was checked out by another technician. Jim was here from 8 am until 1 pm. he was very easy to work with and did not try to push anything on us.We were very happy with the entire operation and would recommend Magic Touch and would use them again in the future.

I was called the almost immediately after purchasing the Angie's List deal by an appointment scheduler to get their technician on site. This was refreshing, as I sometimes forget to schedule service appointments related to online deals. Good to see a company actively scheduling the coupon work. The technician, Troy, arrived on site and asked about the unit and told me areas he needed to access to complete the inspection (return air vent & thermostat). I work from home and Troy was respectful of my house, keeping indoor noise to minimum, until I indicated I was free from my client call. Troy performed the inspection and provided several recommendations, each backed by data from measurements. Some components were borderline, performing at a threshold value for that component. Troy provided recommendations for replacing or not replacing, based on an overall assessment. In the end, I chose to replace one capacitor based on the information presented. He did not push any repair and was clear to denote that the thermostat, which was misreading the temperature, was also an optional repair. Overall, I was pleased with my inspection. I've had a similar inspection by another company and I felt Magic Touch was far more professional and backed up recommendations. I'm sure my rooftop unit will kick-it sometime; when it does, I'll certainly consider Magic touch for it's replacement.

The communication was excellent. I got a call the day before confirming the appointment, and about 40 minutes before the appointment, I received a call from Jim, who was to do the audit, letting me know when to expect him. They were very careful and clean, wearing booties and making sure not to bang into walls. I was very impressed with the amount of detail that Jim went into during the audit, and his willingness to answer my hundreds of questions. Troy was very thorough in his examination of our system, and details the things he found wrong. There was no upsell, no pressure to buy extra things. I would definitely use them when it is time to replace our system.

I was given a 3 hour window of time that the tech would arrive. He called when he was about 1 hour away. Our technician's name was Troy. He was very good to work with. He arrived and got right to work. We recently purchased our home and we needed to have the two a/c units looked at. We had the 66 point A/C super tune-up on both units. We did need to have a capacitor replaced. The parts rate seemed reasonable. We would use them again.

Jim came out to do the analysis. He was punctual and had called ahead to give an approximate arrival time. He was very friendly, courteous, and professional. He explained what he was going to do and allowed us to ask questions. He was here at least four hours and was very thorough. Afterwards, he explained what he found, showed pictures, and told us what the next steps were. It was a fantastic experience. Service work was conducted professionally, and with lots of feedback at end of service calls. I was put out as this vendor charged a flat rate for installation of the HP programmable thermostats at $100. each, but only took 15 minutes per thermostat. I felt the flat rate charge for thermostat installation was extraordinarily high but went forward with this installation as they were here at the home, and the professionals.

Thank you so much for your business and for taking the time to post a report of your experience with Magic Touch on Angie's List. I'm pleased that you rated us with an "A' for your overall experience, but wish we could have left a better impression with regards to the flat rate pricing and responsiveness. With regards to responsiveness, I would love some feedback as to why we only received an "average" score so as to make sure we correct it in the future, This is an area we usually receive high marks in and we are always trying to improve on our delivery of excellent customer service, so any feedback you provide would be very helpful and appreciated. If you have the time to call or E-mail me, that would be great! With regards to flat rate pricing, I can assure you that our pricing is in line with others in our trade and is based on a a formula that allows us to warranty our work, train our technicians, cover the cost of fuel, insurance, licensing, and many other costs associated with running a top notch company while allowing us to make a modest profit so we are here for our clients when they need us, Again I (and our entire team) thank you for your business and for taking the time to share your experience. They did a great job and we were pretty happy with them. We had an issue when we called them in for a service appointment on 4th July and their answering service told that they would come but they never turned up because they were closed. They said it was a problem with the answering machine. They were a little slow between the time we contacted them and actually getting the new air conditioner installed because obviously it wasn't pleasant in Phoenix in July. We ended hoteling for a couple of days. We weren't quite sure why there was a delay between them saying they were going to put it in and then getting it in. They did bring out a portable air conditioner for us but it didn't help. My husband was out of town that week so my son and I ended up going to a hotel. Their price was good. We did do a lot of research and for what we ended up putting in the price was nice. The owner actually called me and apologized for the delay. They showed exactly on time and came when they said they would.

The two heating/cooling units on our Phoenix home were functioning, but were 16 years old and in need of updating to save on our energy bill. We also were interested in taking advantage of both state and federal rebate programs, but did not start until late in the year. After receiving three bids from Angies List companies, we chose Magic Touch because they not only had good products and service record, they also offered an additional service of analyzing and repairing the home's ducting system as part of their overall service. This service qualified us for an Arizona Public Service Duct Test and Repair Rebate Program too. The process from first contact through the estimate process and removal/installation for each unit was exceptional. Challen Hansen was our installation consultant. Despite our late start, he succeeded in getting our old units removed and new units installed within the deadline to receive the federal rebate. Magic Touch staff measured the the efficiency of our duct system before and after replacement to gauge effectiveness and provide a measure of performance improvement. Since we were so late in moving forward in our replacement (a very busy year had reduced the number of gas pack units available from manufacturers), Challen had to locate one of our two units outside of Phoenix and get it delivered for installation. So, we had one unit installed in late December, and one installed in mid-January. The first installation was on New Year's Eve 2010. It required a large crane to reach the unit on the North side of our home, over a mature olive tree. Total removal and installation was less than 3 hours. The second installation was January 7, 2011. It too, went very smoothly, with a smaller crane this time (no tree in the way). At this time, Magic Touch also finished its sealing of our ductwork. A week or so later, a specialist came out to measure the duct effectiveness for our two units. Following this step, Magic Touch staff again assisted us in filling out all appropriate paperwork to get us our rebates and register our new units with Trane. At no time were we left in the dark as to the status of our project. Challen coordinated our installations and came by to check on progress both days. FOLLOWUP: 1 Year Later We could not be happier with our new systems. With the two-stage systems, our house has a more uniform temperature both winter and summer. We rarely can tell when the two units are running. The exception is when it is very cold, or very hot outside. Then, we might notice the units cycling. But the temperature remains at our settings. And we're saving a lot of money each month. When we were researching whether to go ahead with replacement of our two gas pack units, we wondered how much savings we might be able to achieve. Our old units were estimated to have an 8 or 9 SEER rating. Our replacement units are rated at 16.6 SEER. We are on the Arizona Public Service budget billing program. Before replacement, our monthly average bill was $307.00. Since installation, the monthly rate has steadily declined to the current $188.00.
Description of Work: Magic Touch Mechanical installed two Trane 3-ton gas pack units on our roof, inspected and tested our duct system, and sealed all ducts. The two units replaced two units installed 16 years earlier that had become inefficient and expensive to operate.

Thank you so much for your "1 Year Update" report! It was so kind of you to make it a point to come visit me at the home and garden show and let me know how pleased you were with my team and with the performance of your new HVAC systems...I really can't begin to express how proud that makes me of our entire team. Quite often I will hear back from our clients about how much they are saving with their new equipment and other energy improvements we have made to their homes, but rarely does anyone return to sites like Angie's List to actually post their savings a year later which truly validates the savings potential we describe when proposing the work! I was delighted when you told me you were going to (and I knew you meant it) but I had no idea it would be the following day! Many times people do not appreciate the significance and energy savings that can be realized by not just installing higher efficiency A/C and Heating equipment but fixing other deficiencies such as leaky duct work, appropriate controls, etc....now we will be able to point them to your review to show them an actual dollar amount that can be saved and why to choose a company like Magic Touch to do the work as opposed to a company that's not offering a COMPLETE solution! Again, it was a pleasure meeting you in person and I'm ecstatic that you are so happy with the investment you made in your home improvements and your trust in Magic Touch. Sincerely, Rich Morgan - President - Magic Touch Mechanical, Inc.

The guy was enthusiastic, affordable and did good work on a smaller job. I had them come out to do an estimate on a larger job and did not hear back from them.
Description of Work: On our main property he flushed the system for the air conditioner and made sure it was running. We also had them give an estimate on an AC repair or replacement at an investment property.

Thank you so much for your business and for taking the time to post a review of your experience with Magic Touch on Angie's List. While I'm delighted to hear you were so pleased with our service, I am disappointed that we dropped the ball on getting back to you with the proposal on the larger job you requested. I honestly do not know how or why you did not receive the proposal you requested as we found it in our system, and only became aware of this situation based on your review here on Angie's List. I know Candace just spoke with you and expressed our deepest apologies for our failure to follow up and make sure you received the information you requested. We just spoke with Jim and he will be following up with not only the e-mailed quote you requested, but also a phone call to assure you have everything you need from us. Your business and satisfaction is VERY important to us and I will personally follow up on this to make sure you receive the level of service you deserve and we promise! I assure you we want your business and this was an oversight on our part and not us ignoring you in any manner. Please feel free to call me directly if I can be of ANY assistance. Sincerely, Rich Morgan President

I will start off by saying that if you see I have multiple comments for different ac companies its because I am getting multiple bids. I will say that first off make sure you have your address right in angie's list profile. It gave them my old address and when I updated with the girl on the phone it didn't make it to the engineer and he ended up going to my old address 30 miles away. The engineer Challen still came out to my new address during rush hour traffic so I definitly give him props for that. He was very thorough and explained every thing as well as what should be done seperating it from what needs to be done. So far the only negative i have to say is the price, they are definitly not cheap their bid is almost 4grand over the other 2 i have gotten so far. Even if I dont go with them and chances because of the price difference I won't, I wanted to give them credit for their outstanding service.

Thank you for the opportunity to add you to our long list of happy clientele. We all appreciate your kind words regarding our service and you taking the time out of your day to share that with other Angie's List members. I did spend quite a bit of time discussing your job and the scope of work we provided you a proposal on with Challen. Challen found a significant amount of differences in what you actually needed to "get what you pay for" that to his understanding, were not included in the other proposals you received. As you mentioned to him, he was significantly more thorough in performing a load calculation, inspecting the duct system, control wiring, and so on which the others did not perform, mention, or include in the scope of work they offered you. We have the reputation we do because we believe in providing expert advice based on a thorough analysis of our clients needs rather than just "changing the box" at the lowest price possible. The things Challen pointed out, if not corrected will mean a significant disservice to you. We find brand new 16 and 17 SEER, brand new units actually operating more like a 12-13 SEER units because things like poor duct design and duct leakage were never measured, proposed, or corrected. I would be happy to speak with you personally and further explain the differences in the quotes you received as I'm very sure you are comparing apples to oranges. Again thank you for the opportunity and for sharing your feelings that we provide above and beyond service...we SINCERELY appreciate it! Best Regards, Rich Morgan President

So long way to say this,1) Don't use these people.. its very strange that once they started servicing my unit I started having all these problems.2) Their maintance plan is a scam in my view3) If she would have offered me anything, like a discount from the service plan I purchased I would have been finebut their view seems to be we have your money too bad. Watch out for these people.
Description of Work: I found this company on line, checked themout and everything looked good so I had them out for a routine servcing. The first time went well no problems.A year later ( last fall) I had a blower motor go out called and had them out. I was so impressed as they checked and found out the motor was under warrenty. Second person cameout to replaceit when the partcame in.Both techs were yound and I felt not as experienced as the person who came out the very first timeI called them. Funny enough Ihad another problem in Feburary.. called and asked for someone more experienced. He came out and fixed theproblem and then sold me the maintinence program.. BIG mistake. In July of this year I had another motor go out. I called, told them I had the maintainence package they said that couldn't be applied to the service fee because that was only for maintaniance..okay fine but then last month ona 112 day I camehome to find out the blower motor they had replaced a year a go was out. I called them at 5:30 on a week night andtheywere closed. The answering service said they could have someone out in two days! Even though I was supposedly promised within24hr service. I asked for the owner to call me. That didn't happen. Someon did call me the next morning to reschedule an appointment but I had allrready called Scottsdale Air and the owner came over at 8pm to findout what was wrong for me. I again asked to speak to the owner for Magic Touch and awoman did call me back. She was nice on the phone and asked to review my case and call me back.. at 5:30 at night so obviously no urgency to solve my problem since this was at 8AM ! When she did calll back, on time, her focus was to justify their policies and the fact that they had not changed an additional small part that is normally changed when the blower motor is replaced.

I am very sorry to see your opinion of Magic Touch has changed so quickly since Spring of this year when you submitted a survey that stated the service was "Excellent", "Very comfortable and impressed with the technician" and were "impressed that the technician even showed up early". As you can see by our many other happy custiomers here on Angie's List we strive to offer excellent service and I wish we would have had a chance to do the same here. Per the answering service they told you that "the first available appointment that THEY could issue was in two days, however someone could call you as soon as the office opened at 8am to give you a sooner appointment" (we reserve spots just for Comfort Savings Plan Club Members, which is why they can't fill those spots). Per the answering service message we arrived to a message that said; "Caller very rude and upset said she is calling the BBB, unhappy with appointment times. Told customer she could have an appointment earlier as soon as office reopened" At 8am sharp you were the FIRST customer called and Candice said she could dispatch a technician immediately..so you COULD have had service by 9am (under the "within 24 hours promised"), but you told her "forget it I already had a company come out last night and they are coming back today to fix it" and "I want an owner to call me back" Company owner Michele called you back within 15 minutes (before 8:30am) at which point you reiterated you already had someone coming back to fix it because they couldn't fix it that night. Michele ASKED you if she could call you back after 5pm to follow up, and you told her "that was fine"...you left all of this out of your report! Your insinuation that you didn't have "all these problems before" is rather misleading. A motor that failed one year after being replaced isn't exactly indicative of "all these problems". Looking through your service history I see we changed pads on an evaporative cooler (routine maintenance), changed a heating element on your furnace when you called saying you had no heat (when we received an "excellent" survey response from you) and replaced a motor. You purchased a Silver Maintenance Plan from us for $99 and added your evap cooler for another $50, you received a discount of $87.56 for the part on your HVAC system meaning you recieved a tune-up for $11.44. We try super hard to keep every client satisfied. While I understand the frustration of an air conditioner failing when its 112 degrees, we COULD have been there by 9am. The company you called that did make it out there that night could not fix it that night. We offer service "within 24" hours for a reason, we know that the supply houses are closed after 5pm and in most cases (as this one) the soonest the unit can be repaired isn't usually until the following day. We REALLY do care very much which is why a company owner was on the phone with you first thing in the morning but your report does not reflect the level of concern that was shown, in fact it omits the facts and you really didn't even give us a chance to make you happy. My sincerest apologies things turned out this way, I wish we would've been able to satisfy you. Sincerely, Rich Morgan - President

Magic Touch did not feel they could do the work and guarentee it on a cooler they had not purchased themselves. This did not make sense to us. When people need cooler repairs, do they only advise them they have to buy a new one from them??? They should be able to repair and/or install my current cooler and guarentee their work and the functioning of the cooler after they repair or install it.
Description of Work: They called back immediately and came to give an estimate, however, we did not get an actual estimate. The representative told us we needed to get the guy back who started the work or complain to the ROC about him.

I'm sorry we obviously did not explain thoroughly that your evaporative cooler was installed illegally. We took digital pictures to show you exactly what was done improperly and why you needed to file a report with the Registrar of Contractors. The unlicensed individual who you already paid to install an evaporative cooler not only ripped you off, he committed a felony offense by doing so and we are obligated by the ROC to inform you of such violations. We thought we were doing you a favor by informing you of this. I was shocked when I saw pictures of what was done and actually kept them for our "wall of shame." What you were left with, not only poses safety hazards. It seriously impedes the integrity of your roof and HVAC ducting. There was no permit pulled from the city which was very much required for this scope of work, no electrical circuits installed, no water supply was installed, no drain line was installed, no control circuit was installed, a hole was cut into the supply side of your rooftop A/C ducting and not sealed, ductwork meant to be installed indoors was installed above your roof and then rapped with duct tape which is already completely degraded, coming apart and WILL cause your roof to leak. As for the cooler "cabinet" which was "placed" on your roof; it was missing the motor, belts and pulleys, the water pump, drain plug, clean machine, and controls...leaving you with a "shell" and cheap pads. On top of that it appears this individual left in a hurry as he left odd items inside of the machine including a hacksaw???, work light???, rope??? and other tools and materials that were peculiar to sat the least! We are regulated by the Registrar of Contractors which is a State of Arizona government office and required by law to report this to you. This is much more severe than simply "hooking up a machine" and quite different than replacing and warranting a component of a "system" which was legally and properly installed. If memory serves you told Challen that the individual who installed this was a "concrete guy". Would you hire an HVAC contractor to install a concrete walkway? I implore you to take two courses of action: 1) Call the Registrar of Contractors and report this so justice can be served and you can get the money back which this criminal ripped off from you. 2) Adjust your report to reflect the fact that we did what was morally right for YOU and our legal responsibility. Sincerely, Rich Morgan President
