Magic Touch Mechanical

My A/C units went out in July in the Phoenix area - 110 degrees in the shade. I had 3 different companies come out and give estimates - 2 of the companies were in the running at the end. When Challen Hansen from Magic Touch Mechanical came out to my house, he went above and beyond what any of the other companies did when gathering data for the estimate. He measured windows, ceiling heights, doors, hallways - he crawled around in the attic for a good half hour in sweltering heat - and he explained why he was doing all of that work, explaining air flows and how heat and air conditioning work in a big 2 story house like ours. He explained the difference between the different models that they offered and what their competitors suggested - never once disrespecting any of the models the competitors offered - just explained the difference between the units in a way I could understand. That was what made me choose Magic Touch Mechanical to replace both my A/C units. After my purchase and installation, Challen and the president of the company, Rich Morgan reached out to me to make sure I was satisfied with everything. I was very appreciative of the communications I received from both of them.

I was interested in getting a home energy audit performed as I was looking to do some updating of my home, and the mechanicals were high on the list. I orginally found Magic Touch from an internet search and a video on YouTube regarding energy audits (I was not an Angie's List member at the time). I scheduled a time for them to come out and perform the audit. They were thorough and very patient with all the questions I had regarding what they were doing and what they were finding. They provided a number of quotes for various fixes and services to remedy some of the issues and concerns that the audit uncovered. I did my due diligence and got quotes and estimates from a couple other vendors. Updating an AC unit is not an insignificant financial or practical endeavor. Magic Touch were not the cheapest but I was very impressed by everyone I dealt with on the phone or in person. In the interim I had also become an Angie's List member and seen their reviews, corroborating my impressions. The install for the AC unit wound up getting done a week before Christmas and despite the timming the gentlemen who performed the work did a great job and once again were very helpful and patient with all the questions that I had. The work done included a whole new unit, a new thermostat, a duct sealing, and an in-attic seal of the can lights in the kitchen and hallway. A few weeks later another technician came out to follow up on the work and to re-run some of the original audit tests to validate that things had improved and that work was done correctly. I've been very happy and satisfied with Magic Touch throughout this process. I'm looking forward to summer.

The tech (Lance) was extremely courteous and professional. He gladly answered all my questions and willingly shared his knowledge of hvac. The list of checks completed was extensive. I assumed there would be items to repair as our unit is 7 years old and I'm certain that his company makes considerable profit on parts and repair. Surprisingly, he said we needed nothing. Surprising, yes, but appropriate as well, as our unit is running without problems. So let's just call it good old fashion honesty. There was an offer of annual plans, future services, etc. But thankfully, no 'hard sell'. Again, appreciated. Plenty of materials were left for us to review as this company offers a list of services. We have already shared our positive experience with friends in our community and will use Magic Touch again in the future.

The technician stated that the line from the breaker to the unit was bad. Unit operated the next day?? Called an electrician who fixed the problem in 20 minutes. He stated there was a split phase problem. Contacted Magic Touch service manager next day. The Magic Touch technician was adamant that the line was bad when in reality it wasn't. Service Manager offered nothing.

I bought a 66-point A/C Super Tune-up for our condo as we had just purchased it and had no information on the age of the A/C unit and nothing about its history of care. I called for an appointment, they had an opening within a few days. The gentleman came on time completed the inspection and tune up, then explained what he found. Made one small recommendation and answered all my question. He was knowable, not a hard sell for anything. I would call them again in a heartbeat!

This is the second time that I've used the company, and it went well as usual. They were responsive and able to resolve the problem quickly.

Good experience except that I didn't account for the fact that I have two units, so the cost for the check-up was doubled. I also had not realized how expensive freon would be, so the entire bill was much greater than anticipated when I purchased the check-up for $69.

They were very good and very thorough. They had a complete check list that they go over which you actually see at the end of their inspection. Their demeanor was very nice. They were very polite, amiable, and answered all our questions. They had a lot of good information for us; it was very educational. It was very good. I had it done for the first time, and I do not have anything to compare their price too, but I thought it was very reasonable.

I was initially impressed with the initial energy testing that was done on my home for which I paid $99. Rick came out and walked through the house with an infrared gun of some sort that showed areas where there was insulation missing, checked my air ducts and inspected areas around the house and in my attic, and hooked the home up to a blower that showed where there was air leakage. He spent a fair amount of time doing these tests. He then came back out about a week later to present me with the findings. At the presentation, he showed a report of the areas they felt needed to be addressed in my home, and separated these recommendations into 2 groups, which together totaled over $2500 in suggested repairs. When I asked about which of these items would save me the most money on my energy bills, he showed me an analysis on only 4 of the repairs done on some kind of APS calculator showing the approximate annual savings that should be realized by doing these repairs. I chose to do the 2 repairs that showed the highest annual energy savings, one of which offered a $250 APS rebate - to seal accessible duct, supply return, and register connections, and to add insulation to uninsulated areas in the attic. I also asked if Rick could run the other suggestions through the APS calculator to show me what the savings would be for those repairs. The two guys who showed up to do the duct sealing were very nice, and seemed to know what they were doing. The two guys who showed up to do the insulation work however did not speak much English, did not seem to know where to start until one of the other guys showed them where the attic entry was, and did not even bring a flashlight, instead asking to borrow mine. They started after the first set of guys, and finished before them, and left, and of course there was no way to know what they had or hadn't done in my attic. I received a phone call from an outside company after the work was completed called AZ Home Performance with Energy Star. it was their job to audit the work done by Magic Touch and make sure it was done properly. Greg from AZ Home Performance came out and inspected all the work that had been done. Initially he felt that Magic Touch needed to come back and do more work in both areas. After talking to someone at Magic Touch about how the work was presented and written up to me, he said that they did not need to do anything further on the air sealing, but I was left with the impression that he felt they should have done more but had managed to split the work up in such a way that they were not obligated to do anything further. He told me however that they would need to come back and lay down some more insulation, and that they should be contacting me to set up another visit. I never received a call from Magic Touch, so I followed up with Greg and he said he would contact them again. After that I did get a call from Rick who told me that they had done all the insulation work that I had paid for, and that they wouldn't be coming out to do anymore. When Greg followed up with me and I told him this, he said he would take this issue to his boss. After more phone calls, he called me back and said that again, the way they had worded the propositions they had presented to me, that I would have had to pay for another area of work for them to be obligated to lay down any further insulation. I had never been told this by Rick or anyone else who had been out, that the areas I chose to have done were in any way contingent on other areas that I had not chosen to pay for. The bottom line is that I am left feeling like I paid over $1100 for partial work, that the process was not well explained, and that the work done was not up to the standards that the audit company was expecting. I am sadly left disappointed with the process, and will not be using Magic Touch to do any more of the work they recommended.

They did a very good job. I was using them for a rental property, so all my interaction was over the phone. I haven't had any problems since & the renters the happy with the service. I would recommend them.

I purchased the Angie's List deal for the Whole Home Energy Audit and contacted the company to schedule an appointment. The person with whom I spoke on the phone was very pleasant, helpful, and informative. The two auditers showed up right on time and got straight to work with the assessment. Throughout the whole process, they were both very personable and nice, and explained everything that they were doing and some of the preliminary issues that they found. They even allowed my dog to "help." Once finished, everything was cleaned up and put back where it was. Towards the end of the audit, another employee came to perform the tuneup. He was also very nice and knowledgeable. At the follow-up appointment, they came back to my house and provided me with a written report of their recommendations, which was very helpful to me because I'm a new homeowner and had only lived in the house for a couple of months. The big surprise was that they did not try to sell me on everything and push for any sales. They simply let know their recommendations and asked if I had any questions. I will definitely consider Magic Touch when the time comes to perform work to my HVAC unit.

I had a terrible experience with them. I had to chase them down to get the report and it took me 6-7 weeks to get it from them.

They did a very good job and I am thoroughly pleased with the service. I would definitely use their service in the future.

Received phone call from tech letting me know he was on his way. Was within the time slot originally told to me. upon arrival, introduced himself and explained to me what he was going to do. Encouraged me to ask questions at anytime. Encouraged me if I wanted to, walk with him and observe his work. This part was very educational for me. Covered all bases and took plenty of photos. Upon completion, went over briefly with me his findings. A more complete review will happen one week later when all the formal reports will be complete along with proposals that will make the house more efficient. Another appointment was set up to go over the audit. All my questions and concerns were addressed. Chris, the tech was very knowledgeable, courteous, polite, and informative. I was very impressed with the overall experience. After next week's meeting, will then proceed with the next steps in improving my house.

I scheduled an Ac tuneup; the phone representative was pleasant and courteous and called the day before to confirm the appointment. The technician Dan, was on time, answered all my questions and explained everything before performing the work. In the process he found a failed capacitor, explained the cost and replaced the item. It was a pleasant experience and I would use them again.

After purchase of the Big Deal, it was easy to make an appointment with Magic Touch and the technicians arrived promptly at the appointment time. They were courteous and professional and explained how the duct test was to be run and answered my questions. They sealed all of the vents in all of the rooms with plastic. They were careful not to track dirt into any of the carpeted rooms and used a sealing process that did not damage the paint on and around the vents. After the test was performed, they found leakage and recommended repairs to seal the systems. I agreed and they scheduled an appointment for this. When the appointment time came, the technician arrived on time and was very professional. He completed his work in about three hours and was again careful not to track dirt anywhere and cleaned up all debris from his work. The work did not include recaulking around all of the air vents (the work required the vents to be removed from the wall for sealing), but I easily did this myself and did a very small amount of touch-up painting. After this work was done, the original technicians returned to retest the system. They were again fastidious and professional. The re-test showed that the leakage was cut about in half to around 5 or 6 percent as I recall. The technician told me that it is very difficult to completely eliminate all leakage. The technicians provided all of he paperwork needed to obtain a $241 rebate from the power company. The reason that I gave Magic Touch a "B" on price and quality is because it is difficult for a layperson to determine the value or effectiveness of this work. Our electricity usage since the work was done has been about the same as the previous year except we showed a significant drop in September. I would have to correlate the weather temperatures each year to see if this was a factor. I did, however, observe the work and can see that areas where air could have leaked were well sealed. It was July when the work was done and the technicians looked into the attic but did not conduct a detailed inspection of the ductwork there and did not perform any repairs on it. I wondered about this, but the re-test did show a significant drop in leakage.

From start to finish...PERFECT. On time, very professional gentlemen, skilled at what they did (test for duct leakage), and helped us with SRP processing of an SRP refund.

They did great. They explained everything from start to finish and were very professional through out the whole inspection.

Was not happy, it was not what I expected. I was looking for areas upon which to improve the energy efficiency of my home.

David from Magic Touch was very personable. He allowed me to follow him as he worked, to ask questions and we discussed options. Most of what was revealed was not surprising. It did allow my husband and I to prioritize what upgrades we will do first and move a few other far down the to do list. Only downside was the dust that got sucked in during the check for air leaks. Nobody's fault just an unexpected annoyance.

It went well, and over all better than average. I got one of the deals and so was a very good price, even when I had to pay for a repair on the H.V.A.C. unit (missing bracket and sloppy prior repair). Even sent me a card, and checking back to see if they can do any other work.

The guy was late to start with, he did a energy audit, by closing at windows and sealed the front door and using a fan to measure the pressure or air flow. He when tried it sell me more insulation in my attic, i have about 16 inches of insulation in my attic Now. What i thought was crazy is he never looked in my attic, all he would do is show me on his lap top, the different prices for the services the company provided.

Perfect. Magic Touch knows their stuff and we keep going back to them.
