Installers were excellent. Estimator was a jerk. A man came to find what size and number of panes were to be replaced for a different company, and marked the panes. Another man for Glass, Inc. came and looked at the marked panes, and was told the first man failed to mark two panes that needed replacing. All panes in windows directly hit by the sun were to be replaced. Only failed panes were to be replaced in windows not directly hit by the sun. The estimator was not familiar with low-e insulated glass for the coastal region. We had to show him what it was, and that his supplier made it. He submitted an estimate, then changed the estimate two times before we signed it. They ordered the glass, and when it came in they called to put it in. The installers were punctual, but at first did not have the expertise necessary to do the job quickly. The third day, the helper was adequate and they flew along in installation. The installers were courteous and cleaned up after their work. One pane was missing. The estimator said it was not included because the first man from the other company had not marked it (we had told him when he was at the house that it was to be included although not marked). He increased the price, stating that it was our fault, that we should have checked on the estimate to see that all panes were included before we signed. No discount was offered because of his mistake, and he refused to accept that he had made a mistake. He said he did not see why on some windows all panes were replaced and on other windows only one (large) pane was replaced. I had to tell him it was because some windows were directly hit by the sun. They submitted the full amount on our credit card the last day they put in the glass, without asking or notifying us they were doing so, and it was not agreed to prior to the installation. We still are waiting for the last pane of glass to be put in, and it will cost a lot more done separately. No discount for their mistake. The estimator represents the company, and has been an a__h___ the whole way through. The workmen are great, but the company people are not knowledgeable, charge exhorbitantly, make mistakes and refuse to admit it. The original estimate was $2,800 and the total so far has been $3,600, with another pane still to be paid for!
Description of Work: Replaced 'failed" window glass in several windows with "low-e" insulated glass. They removed the old glass and brittle stops, put in new low-e glass panes formulated for the coastal region, and caulked it in place.
