Work began at the beginning of October 2006. He didn't measure the initial building on the foundation correctly. It was irregular. As a result, the concrete was poured as an irregular shape. The foundation was not dug correctly. He didn't initially put rebar in the foundation of this building, I caught him. The foundation had to be dug out again and rebar put in. None of the plumbing that was placed at or below the concrete level was held down so when they started to pour it popped up. The position of the supporting walls inside the building were laid out incorrectly and I had to correct them. There are two safe rooms in this building that are constructed with block filled with concrete. I had to force the contractor to put rebar into the initial pour so the blocks would be held in place locked into the cement slab. He didn't do that. When the block walls were poured to fill them with concrete, he also filled concrete into the plumbing so the plumbing pipes had concrete in them and were plugged up. The framework built for the walls was built with 2x10s when it was required the walls be 2x12. We wanted to put a 16' ceiling in. The contractor initially put a 10' ceiling in. The main family room had two large windows in it. When it was first framed, the contractor put three windows instead of two. All of the framing had to be torn down and replaced with the correct ceiling height framing. The initial building without the pool area added was built first and then the concrete footing for the swimming pool was put in. That was not poured correctly. That resulted in incorrect dimensions for the walls. When the walls were built, the ceiling wouldn't fit. So when the ceiling joyces were brought in it didn't fit and couldn't be made to fit. The windows that were put in to the swimming pool area would not open because the brick contractor didn't frame the windows in correctly. The doors to the main entrance would not fit, nor would the windows in the main room fit because the framing of the windows was one 2x4 off at the top. All of this had to be torn down and rebuilt correctly. He built the entire blockwork for the two safe rooms and the ceiling for the saferooms and after doing so did not dry the rooms out and placed wall board on the walls which resulted in the rooms becoming moldy. Everything had to be torn out and the mold removed by an additional contractor. The wallboard was not put in in a correct manner. The swimming pool was put in, boards were placed over the pool to prevent damage from construction. He damaged the swimming pool liner by dropping things in between the boards and the liner had to be replaced at my cost. He cracked my concrete with cranes and refused to fix it. His workers were illegal Hispanics who could not speak English. He would tell them to do the work, they would do damage and sit there and look at it. For example, one was screwing in wallboard and put a screw through the plumbing, resulting in a leak. He put the screw back in to stop the leak, continued putting up the wallboard and didn't say anything about it. Glen Bishop did not come in and supervise the workers. He would come in the morning, tell them what needed done and disappeared. I would find the workers sleeping by the side of my house but would be charged for that time. He would not correct the workers, and when I tried to tell him about these things he would yell at me for interfering with his workers. The inspectors came in, the ground was not inspected for termites. You're supposed to prepare a slab by putting plastic and sand down. They did not do any of this. They didn't follow the drawing directions in the main room. The framers left on a hunting trip and didn't finish their work. There was a pile of defective lumber that needs replaced. Many of the boards were stacked on the ground and put in water. They came to work on their own time and left on their own time with no supervision. We needed a timeclock for the work and he wouldn't put one in. When Bishop hired contractors to do work, he wouldn't pay them. He refused to pay the electricians and the contractor who sprayed the insulation. They tried to come after me but I was not responsible for hiring or paying them. The tresses which were intended to cover the pool room had been put in the mud and exposed to the weather. The wood is not treated and is susceptible to mold. This issue was addressed but not fixed. I had to fix the issue. He drove his forklift in the mud where the pool was supposed to be and it fell over in the mud. Glen used 1/2" rebar everywhere and the drawings called for 5/8 "rebar. There was general problems with construction and cleaning. There was a spiral staircase that could not be matched to the patio. I believe he made serious errors in the construction of my building. There were errors of omision. Glen continously wanted to build his own way and not follow the drawings. The initial cost of the construction was not to exceed $175,000. This was made with a verbal agreement and it was not to exceed much over $175,000. He would regularly come to me and ask me for money and tell me what he did so I could post the money against work that was done. I would check the work and find the work not done. When I confronted him with the fact that I paid him $10,000 for work he didn't do and told him I cancelled the payment on the check because the work was not done, he filed a police action against me for writing a bad check and had me arrested. I had to hire a lawyer and take him to court. I was exponged of all wrongdoing and my arrest record was exponged out of the Alabama legal system. I complained to the state licensing board who told him them that he did have a license. He lied about his license and insurance. He admitted all the wrongdoing in court and admitted he had falsely accused me of writing a bad check and did it on purpose. The court found in my behalf but there was no recovery. I filed a lean against his property. He is not supposed to do any kind of construction whatsoever in the state of Alabama. I had to hire an additional contractor to go back into the building and finish it and fix the errors left by Glen Bishop’s crew. That cost an additional $70,000. Glen Bishop is beyond a doubt the worst example of a construction contractor that one can imagine.
