I just never used them for the plumbing part of it before which I wish I would have done from the beginning. They did a great job. I like the fact that they fixed the problem.
Description of Work: Always on Call Mountain Mechanical fixed the toilets for me. They fixed one area where the previous plumber I used said that they could not fix. I have been using them for my heating for ten years.

I called Mountain Mechanical on a weekend hoping they would have someone who could come out and fix my sump pump after finding over a foot of water in my crawl space, and calling several other companies who don't have an after hours service. They had a technician available who was very honest about what the cost would be and was also able to check my heating system and give me an estimate for a humidifier in addition to getting all the water out of my crawl space. He got my sump pump working and got rid of all the water, and all it took was a new motor. Once he had assessed the sump pump he came up and explained to me what it needed and exactly what it would cost so there wouldn't be any surprises. After he was done with that he inspected my heating system, including my furnace, hot water heater, and my unit heater, and also gave me the estimate for the humidifier I have been wanting for a very long time. When I got the bill I was pleasantly surprised to find that he had only charged me the call out fee, the cost of the sump pump motor, and their special rate of $39.95 to inspect my heating system, even though he was there for about three hours since he had to drain the crawl space down so he could get to my sump pump. The $39.95 special they run is only for the inspection and does not include any repairs or parts, but he was very honest about that before he did it and made sure to take the time for me to understand that if my system needed any repairs there would be an additional charge for that. I thought this was a great deal since the $39.95 probably only covers the technicians time and nothing else. My unit didn't need any repairs or parts so the only charge was the $39.95 for the inspection. I had some questions about my heating system and some concerns I had with its ability to keep functioning since it is an older unit. The technician was more than willing to explain to me what things I might notice happening if my system begins to fail so I can hopefully catch the problem before I end up with no heat in the middle of winter. When I asked about an estimate for getting it replaced if I wanted to he wrote on the invoice a quick estimate for its replacement and said that it would be good for quite awhile, but reassured me my current unit was working just fine, and it still is. I also asked about a higher efficiency furnace and the benefits and costs of installing one, which he also wrote up an estimate for and reassured me that he himself had done lots of them, as had his fellow technicians at the company. The company seems like they want to make sure their customers are taken care of and they have always been very honest with me and when I had previously had them come out for other services, Mountain Mechanical came in with the best price, and by far the best service I have ever received. As a women I sometimes worry that since I don't know anything about my heating system that someone might try and rip me off and charge me for a bunch of stuff I don't need, but with Mountain Mechanical they break down all of the charges on an invoice, that I got a copy of, so if i want to compare prices I can, and save the service record for my files. When I called in to schedule the humidifier install the ladies in the office were very nice and professional, glad to help me get the appointment scheduled, and were willing to work with me around my work schedule. Overall I had a great experience with Mountain Mechanical and will definitely keep using them. I am planning a bathroom remodel soon and will likely stick with Mountain Mechanical.

The $40 coupon for a inspection is a joke; think about it! It costs double that much to pay the (two) techs to come out to your home, the gas in the van, insurance, and licensing. Why would a company continuously run such a loss-program if they weren't finding ways to profit from it illegitimately? At the time that I hired these guys, I was overseas on a military assignment. I had them come out to perform a pre-winter, annual inspection on my boiler and water heater. This was preventative maintenance to ensure my wife and kids didn't have any issues in the coming winter with the thermal coupler or the like failing. By the time they were finished with their inspection, my wife was handed a bill in excess of $140. What happened to the $40 coupon? It is questionable that when they first arrived my wife inadvertently gave them free-reign to perform any work they wanted or felt necessary. I would feel better knowing they pulled the wool over her eyes that way, as opposed to just out right doing whatever they wanted to do to my system without being given permission. What I do know are the facts: that my wife wasn't expecting a bill that totaled more than the price advertised on the coupon (and in their commercials!) and the two technicians performed services that my wife was not made fully aware of. To add insult to injury, after being handed the inflated and padded bill, my wife was told the unit was a fire hazard and needed to be replaced immediately. And they were very nice to provide my wife with a proposal on a new boiler...they had the proposal already drafted up for her...how convenient! After I was made aware of this from afar, I hired two other heating contractors to come out and inspect and neither of the two agreed with Mt Mech's assessment of the safety of my boiler. Just iron-clad confirmation that this company is real good at blowing smoke up a girls' skirt when the man isn't around; very akin to a commission-only used car dealer salesman. What goes around, comes around describes the conclusion: In the past few months (after 3 more years of my boiler successfully operating) I had 10...yes, 10 contractors come out and provide me proposals on a new system. Mt. Mech. was not even given the time of day by me, and I was happy to give $10K to someone I trusted. With all the available options in town, and positive reviews on Angieslist, why would anyone bother with these guys? I am so thankful that Angieslist is in Anchorage now and businesses that behave this way can be accurately and fairly evaluated. When this work was done, AL did not offer reviews for Anchorage. I regret being lured-in by Mt Mech's marketing and felt sorry that my wife had to feel taken advantage of. Again, so grateful that AL is here in Anchorage to encourage crooks to better their businesses and give the honest guys some limelight. I gave them a D instead of an F only because after blowing smoke, at least they didn't sabotage my unit and it did function through the winter....albeit, this is not a tall order for an old-school cast-iron boiler to function properly. You decide for yourself what rating you would have given.

Response from Always On Call Mountain Mechanical Corp
The inspection is as it says an inspection of the equipment for operation and overall condition. We pointed out things that may be an issue such as the insulation cracking inside of the burner compartment which could eventually become hazardous. There is nothing on the card that states we clean the burners and change the thermocouple for the $39.95. It is always the customer option as to what they would like done. According to our records there was no price or written bid given for a new boiler only recommended repairs. We stated it functions ok at that time. I am glad to hear the system has been replaced but if we had not called to their attention that there was something wrong you would not have done further research. In todays economy anytime there is a large sum of money needing to be spent it is wise to get second or even 10 opinions because everyone sees thing differently.

Late Sunday night, 11/20/2011, a base-board water line burst. I was able to shut the water off before there was any damage. I called the company's ER service line and left a message for the techs. It took 24 hours for them to reach my home, but I did not have any issue with that for it has been very cold in my area and the company was very busy with other customers having similar issues. This experiance was very good. Both techs were pros and very efficient. They were in and out withiin 2 hours.

I made an appointment for these people to come over and do an inspection and "do whatever is required to pass home inspection" (they had just been out here 3 weeks ago and replaced the controller board and had noted that furnace was "dirty"). My intent was to have them do whatever was necessary for the home to pass a home inspection. "Tim" who had done the work 3 weeks prior shows up and begins to go through the unit reading off serial numbers and voltage measurements to his partner who is taking all this down on some sort of inventory sheet. Then Tim begins to "make recommendations" such as "clean burners", "replace igniter" (funny, the igniter was not a problem 3 weeks earlier), "replace filter", etc. I told him that I thought he was here to actually do all of these things, not just recommend them. He then said no he was just here to do an inspection and make recommendations and that if I wanted him to clean the burners and replace the igniter that would be $192.00 (I have replaced the igniter on this unit about 6 months ago when trying to repair it myself, so I know there was absolutely nothing wrong with the igniter). Then he signs off my garage overhead heater as good working order when the unit has NEVER worked properly to my knowledge. At that point I told them to pack it up and charge me their $39.95 special and get off my property. This company is an absolute joke if this guy is the best they have to offer. I will NEVER use them again and recommend that none of you do either.

Description of Work: In retrospect i should have taken the time for a second bid. They repaired my Boiler in the house. They did my Boiler but the estamant for replacing the garage heater was wildly extravogant, their qoute was 4000.00 dollars when another company was able to do it for 1500.00. First my son broke my shower, then they got into my furnace, I don't have time to learn how to fix things that are out of my expertise, I am a single mother of 4 boys and if it's not one thing its another at my home.
Description of Work: in both my home's I had a furnace problem, frozen pipes, toilet problems, and one call to Mountain mechanical always was right there, timely and courteous always... I referred them to all my friends and family my friends loved the service they provided. One phone call and all the head ache is over, so no stress of repairs or high cost to fix my problems at home, which with 4 kids I don't have time to learn to do it all myself....great job!!

It was the winter when the temp was at -30 and my furnace decided to quit working. They found the problem fairly quickly, the computer board for a second time in two years, and within 48 hours had installed a new furnace. They were punctual, professional, and worked late to get the heat back on in my house. The garage heater was just not going to cut it for much longer.

It was an awful experience. They came in with wet boots and trudged back and forth to the truck. They were not pleasant to communicate with. They used my bathroom without saying anything. I had to call another company to come fix it, who noticed that they put all the wires back in the wrong places. The problem wasn't even the circuit board. I will never call them again.
Description of Work: The came to fix my furnace but were unable to fix it. They didn't do much for diagnostics and immediately stated that it was the circuit board needed to be replaced. They tried several circuit boards but none fixed the problem. They then put my furnace back together (incorrectly), closed it up, and then left. The only good thing is they didn't charge me for the hour they spent.

Description of Work: We originally asked for a quote for a service on our furnance (we are selling) they gave us a high estimate (though it was lower than the other companies I was quoted).
