I was extremely displeased with the work that they did. The caulking after the leveling of the sills was bad. Bruce Sell is the owner and he was very unprofessional. He was very nice if you liked the positive things about him. He used to become abrasive and sometimes used to hang up on the phone when I pointed out anything I wanted or when I asked him any questions. He would sometimes make appointments and simply not show up. I had to get him to come out and repair the caulking work. Somebody finally got out and did the work for a while. However, they didn?t finish chipping the old caulk. It was a little better when they did the caulking the second time, but not what I would consider as professional grade. The leveling of the sills was generally acceptable and so he did something right, but the finishing of the caulking wasn?t acceptable. I would definitely recommend that no person should use him. The price was average and was same as everybody else. I would not use them again.

J & B Restoration did the leveling of the sills, lintels and also did the caulking around June of 2008.

Once the work was scheduled, everything went well. They were prompt and efficient. Great job of cleaning the work area after each day. The color of the mortar matched the exsisting mortar and quality seemed good.
Description of Work
Tuckpointing was completed on the chimney and exterior of house. J & B cut out and repointed 100% of the mortar joints on the chimney, exterior areas that were cracked or deteriorating, and non-matched mortar that was previously applied.

Overall, I was not pleased with the work or professional. The actual tuckpointing and pitching the sill, the work looked like it was done well, but when they went to caulk the sill, the caulking was not a smooth caulk bead. Trying to have them correct the issue was difficult. If the owner was not happy with me dealing with him, he would not show up the next time to do the work. The project dragged out a long time.
Description of Work
They tuckpointed mortar joints on my sills and re-laid sills in order to slope the correct direction. They also replaced one lentil.

Things started very slowly for us, because of constant rain in the beginning and then one or two of the guys were out sick or injured (not work related). But, once things got under way, everything went really well. First of all, our house is three stories tall and the garage is not attached, also the homes in this neighborhood are quite close to each other, so there wasn't a lot of space on the sides of the house for working. The stucco work made it so that you couldn't even see where the patching and repairs were. And, the painting is just beautiful. We needed some gutters replaced and they even cleaned out gutters which were not part of the job or contract. While the work was being done, there was stuff all over the yard, but at the end of each day it was all cleaned up and piled nicely. Bruce and his guys were very courteous and friendly. Whenever we brought up anything that we felt needed doing, they always took care of it. They never gave us some reason why it couldn't be done. As the work went along we discovered that a ceiling had fallen down in a sleeping porch that we just used for storage. It turned out that water was coming in from poor roofing that had been done years before. After first trying to calk it and finding out that didn't work, we had Bruce repair that section of the roof. So that was a completely separate job and the room is now dry and being brought back into working order. We were so happy with the exterior painting that we have now gone ahead to have some interior rooms redone (the walls torn out and replaced and painted.) The one bedroom that has been done is so beautiful that everyone now wants that to be their room. We went beyond what we had planned to do, so we are having to come to an end here, but we will definitely be getting Bruce back to do further work in the future.
Description of Work
Our home and garage needed exterior painting, stucco repair, some gutter work, and some exterior wood replaced. We have gone on to now have some roofing done and also interior work including drywall and painting.

The chimney tear down and rebuild went well ? once it was finally underway, and they did a fine job. Then, they tore off old roof and found the roof needed additional decking (this was a possible contingency they saw and built in to the original estimate.) That aspect was hampered by rain, so I understood the delays. The gutters were replaced, and seem to done well. The clean up was adequate. My tremendous disappointment came in the painting phase. The work was very poorly done, and never completed. A stack of shingles was left in my driveway, and after weeks of waiting, I had to finish the painting myself. I also had to replace the light fixture that was broken at some point during the process. I later discovered that one of the painters had tracked paint all over the wood deck. In the past, I've enjoyed working with J&B, so I was surprised at the terrible outcome. I was especially disappointed because they requested full payment before the job was complete. And to add insult to injury, they requested an additional $400 for an additional dumpster they hadn't anticipated. I foolishly agreed to cover the cost. After that, all work stopped, and I had to finish the job and complete the clean up myself. I had them lined up to do a second painting job for me at another location, and had to cancel based on their abysmal painting performance. As I mentioned earlier, I've used them in the past for roofing, and they did a fine job. This time the chimney and the roof were done well (with the exception of the foolish goodwill in helping cover overage costs), but the terrible work and service with the painting has left me extremely disappointed.
Description of Work
They rebuilt the chimney, tore off the old roof and gutters, re-decked and re-shingled the roof and put on new gutters. Then they painted the exterior trim.

This report is an outright lie and disgusts me that this customer would do this. There was never a broken light fixture it was a light bulb. The only painting that was not finished was around the doorknob on the backdoor. The door was always locked and the customer was never home. The bundle of shingles that was left is for the customer in case there should ever be a need to replace a missing one and then they would match with the house. As for the dumpster, I approached the customer and told him we would need another dumpster. I asked him if he would consider sharing the cost with me and told him he didn't have to and his exact words were "Add it to the estimate I would never ask anyone to pay for my project" As for clean up the customer's property, we clean up everyday and remove the nails with a magnet on a daily basis. I'm very confused as to why this customer wrote this report. We have done several jobs for this customer and we enjoyed working for him. If there was work we didn't finish and that I'm not aware of, we will come back and finish the work for the customer.

He was professional. His estimate was in between; not the highest not the lowest. He tuck pointed a couple of little spots that were not on the chimney flash. We ended up asking him to put chimney covers as well. We talked that through. The only problem, in fact we mentioned it today, we had was that he should have cleaned the gutters which had a lot of sand in them. The sand was probably left over from the job he did. He did not clean it when he finished the job. He wasn?t too pleased about that. If he had not cleaned up our gutters, the sand would have clogged our down stout. They came back to do the cocking on the roof. It was too wet to do that earlier. Perhaps they were in a hurry and did not clean up. Everything else was fine. He did a good job. The price was reasonable. He gave us a 10% discount. From thoroughness to getting up on the roof and doing the work, he seemed to do a fine job. If I use them in future, I will ask them more questions before using them. We had tuck pointing done before by another person. We called him. His quote was lower but we did not think that he could be thorough. We had received another quote for $5000.

We had a leak in the roof, dripping water into our attic. I thought we would need to do some actual roof repair, but J&B said that the roof was in good shape and it was just a matter of caulking some open areas on the roof, like the vents. I was happy that they did not try to oversell me with more repairs than I actually needed -- since it's impossible to get up on our roof and see for ourselves what we need.

After putting on a rubber roof, there are still leaks in my kitchen. I am continuing to receive moisture on my ceiling. When the contractor was here finishing the rubber roof he agreed that it wasn't correct and said he would come back to repair it. Since then, I have not received any phones calls or emails from him.

I have repeatedly tried to contact said member about this. I have called the only number we have (work number). We are willing to fix the roof but we were contacted to late in the season (via Angie's List). Rubber roofs can not be done in winter. There are two holes that need to be caulked and and this wouldn't cause the water coming in her home. I suspect she has other issues elsewhere in her home.

Difficult and not professional. Original work seemed fine but when I had to call him back to fix areas that had not been filled in he was difficult to deal with. I understand filling in cracks can be tricky but he was overly defensive and finally came out to fix the problem. Kept saying the problem was "below grade" which would have been helpful to know before I paid him! Phone calls were not returned. I can not believe this guy is so highly rated!

We contracted with this customer to tuckpoint her garage because there was water coming into her garage when it rained. These areas were noticeable when we came to do the original estimate. We repaired the areas that were contracted for and we even went over and above and tuckpointed areas that were not included in the estimate because she is a repeat customer. We received a phone call from said customer saying the water was still coming in the garage.Bruce apologized told the customer that it is possibly coming in from underground which there is no way to tell unless you dig down to expose the foundation. Bruce told her that he would come out and take a look and do a little extra tuckpointing to try and resolve the issue. Which he did. Received another phone call from customer a few weeks later. We sent another one of our masons out to do MORE tuckpointing that was not included in the estimate. At this time we took pictures of the areas that were tuckpointed and pictures of the foundation because customer said she was going to sue us. After all the tuckpointing that was done there seems to be an underlying (underground) issue and we can not tell where the water is coming from unless we dig up her foundation and she was not willing to pay for that. All in all we completed everything the contract stated and we went over and above for this customer even after she threatened us. This customer states we were extremely expensive I (Jennifer) personally had a conversation with this customer when she called to accept the contract and she stated that our price was comparable to other estimates she received and she hired us based on that and the fact that we have done work for her before. Even after we were threatened by her we were never argumentative or rude with her. We are highly rated because we are professional and we do excellent work if we weren't we would not be in business.

Overall, it went well with just one glitch. The power washing went fine, but they didn't clean up afterward as well as they could have/should have. To their credit, when I called, they responded by coming out within 24 hours to take care of that problem. They also -on a different date - replaced quite a few bricks that had been broken for years. Again, my only complaint is that the clean-up could have been better as they left some pieces of broken bricks on the patio edges, and there were a couple of other places where they could have added sand around the bricks - which they did in many places, but not all. In general, they were prompt and cordial and easy to work with.

My mother lives with and cares for my elderly grandparents in Glendale, Wisconsin. I'm a California Angie's List member who did add-a-city to help them find services in their area. I made a list, sent it to Mom and she called a few companies for estimates. J & B were great from the first contact. This house needed a lot of work and J & B were incredibly helpful and kind. We knew what the problems were but weren't even certain where to begin or what kind of service we needed. They explained everything in detail to my mother and really earned her trust on the jobs performed. Their work teams were polite and friendly. There were frequent, friendly phone calls to update the status of each job and set times for the next task to be done. My mother's exact quote is "Everything turned out perfect". My mom was so overwhelmed by what had to be done, she was hesitant to even get started, but once J&B were on the job, she was pleased and excited to see the project coming together in such capable hands. She was thrilled to find this company and would recommend them to anyone. She is not online so I'm filing the report for her. It took a while to get all the info from her, but she wanted to be sure she gave them a great recommendation on Angie's list. I have been back to Wisconsin since the work was finished and can verify that the work done on the house looks wonderful.
Description of Work
They did concrete work --replacing the driveway, pavement and capping, chimney and masonry repair, painting and sidewalks. There was sagging masonry on this 1960s built house, and a lot of maintenance work that had been neglected. J& B went over the job in detail with my mom and made her feel comfortable that the work was in very capable hands.

The job went very well. The chimney is tall-when up there they discovered entire top section seemed spongy, so there was an additional cost of around $500 for more brick and labor. This seemed reasonable to me. The two men arrived early each morning to begin work and it was finished when they told me it would be. The owner of the company checked in on the progress. The three were very professional, as well as Mrs. Sell on the phone. I am very happy with the work done as well as finding the nice people of J&B Restoration to do it.

I have used J & B before so I was familiar with their work. I contacted Bruce of J & B who came out within the week to give me an estimate of the requested work. He said as soon as they had a nice day, they would come out to replace the chimney cap. Within a week the cap was completed and the following warm day he came and finished the caulking. He answered all my questions and the quality of their work is excellent. If you ever need a mason, be sure to call J & B!

It was a two day process. They were absolutely terrific. I got them from Angie's List, they had such a great rating. The owner gave me an estimate and then two men came to work on the job. Both days they were prompt, courteous and a pleasure to work with. Each day they asked if I had any questions, when I did, they answered them completely. There was a lot of debris that fell from the chimney, but they did an excellent job of cleaning up, which is half the battle. They also gave me an estimate to put on a new roof on my garage. I will be happy to work with them again in the future.

We selected J&B Restoration after a long evaluation process. Their price was good, they had a reference whom we spoke with in detail and we saw several of their jobs. But in the end, J&B took seven turbulent months to do our roof. At signing in late March J&B promised to do our job the first week in the 60s and to immediately send us a copy of their license. Over the next seven months J&B delayed, broke promises and missed meetings. Scheduled supply deliveries never arrived, a dumpster was mistakenly left in our driveway, and all summer we had to maneuver our cars around pallets of shingles. In various conversations or voice mails Bruce lost his temper four times, threatened to keep our $10,000 deposit for his trouble and said we'd have to take him to court. Bruce and Jennifer both repeatedly insisted that no building permit was required (it is in our village). In June, we discovered that J&B hadn't been licensed in six years. At one point J&B promised to return our $10,000 deposit (less cost of shingles, which had been delivered). But four weeks later they wanted, instead, to keep $2000 of it and force us to sign an agreement not to file an Angie s List report. We exercised patience and persistence; we cajoled, coaxed and reasoned. But as the roofing season began winding down in October we finally had to resort to filing complaints with the BBB and Contact 6. On receiving the Contact 6 complaint J&B hired a subcontractor whose crew started the job immediately and did the lion s share of the work, even working weekends to get it finished. Bizarrely, the morning of the day our job was finished J&B submitted its BBB response, 11 days late. It claimed they had acted in a timely manner, characterized our BBB complaint as false and protested the amount of their resources it took to respond to the BBB. Thanks to the subcontractor the roof looks nice. But we d never recommend J&B Restoration to anyone, especially for a complex or costly project. Lessons learned: 1) Check the business credit report. This would have given us valuable clues. 2) Insist on all documentation (license, full insurance declaration and a stated intent to pull a permit) before signing. 3) Never pay more than 1/3 down on any project. J&B required 1/2 down. 4) Carefully weigh the contractor s responses to its poor Angie s List reports. Defensiveness is a big tip-off. Past service awards and good references alone don t guarantee the contractor is a good match for your job.

I called three Angie's List companies for estimates on tuckpointing work that was needed on our home. This was the first time we've ever needed this type of work done. We chose J & B Restoration based on their responsiveness to our request for a quote, their Angie's List ratings, and price. Bruce and Jennifer Sell are very professional and attentive, and it was nice working with them. When I asked Bruce to reattach the gutters, which was outside of the work I had originally asked for, he came right away and took care of the items requested. The crew performing the tuckpointing were neat, courteous, and professional. The finished tuckpointing looks great and is barely noticeable! The new mortar matches the existing color almost perfectly, and the lines are clean and straight. We just had landscaping done prior, but J & B kept the area around our home neat and clean. I would recommend J & B to anyone needing the restoration services they provide.

Bruce was fast in getting us an estimate. However, the company was quite a bit behind of their estimated start date. The company was not the best in proactively keeping us informed of when the work would start, but they were good about prompt reply to phone or e-mail requests for an update. Once started, the work progressed quickly. All workmen were polite and hard-working. I observed several stages of the work, and all work was done with proper preparation; no shortcuts were made. It was discovered that the previous owners of the house had simply painted over some rotting trim. This had to be replaced at an extra charge. The house now looks stunning.

Although the big box stores had standard size windows at a reasonable price (for the quality level supplied), custom sizes were cost prohibitive and took a long time to get once ordered. In addition, there wasn't much selection if you wanted a higher quality product. Other window retailers were expensive and slow. After researching different windows and finding a high quality one he liked, he decided to go directly to the manufacturer and negotiate pricing since he had such a high volume of windows he would be ordering. Over the years, friends, fellow investors and contractors began requesting orders. As a result, Milwaukee Windows came to existence.
