Excellent Experience! Scott is extremely knowledgable - in fact, that is a complete understatement - on anything home-related. He and his wife Bonnie are more than helpful and accommodating, responding to calls and questions very quickly, and genuinely providing the highest quality of service. We just moved to town when we bought our house, and knew no one. Scott was an encyclopedia of not only local resources, but also those great, home-fix-it tricks that only decades mastering the trade can provide. We will definitely be utilizing his expertise time and time again, and you should as well.

Overall, it was a good experience. He showed up before me, he did a through job inspecting everything, answering questions, giving us tips. The report that was given at the end was very through and professional. He checked everything I could think of, except the stove, which I checked and it didn't work. He did add it to the report. He was nice and courteous to my husband and I. He gave us a lot of tips of landscaping around the house to prevent basement leaks. He also did a good job explaining why failing the radon test and having to install a fan was not that costly, due to the fact that then you do not need a dehumidifier in the basement and those are expensive to run about 30 dollars a month compared to 6 dollars for the radon fan. So money up front, for energy saving in the future.

Scot McLean at Towne & Country has now done two home inspections for my husband and me. He came highly recommended by our realtor, and we feel that connecting with him has been one of the best things that could have happened to us as first time home buyers. Last August, we had an accepted offer on a "flipped" property that looked great on the outside (new flooring, updated bathrooms, granite and stainless steel in the kitchen), but Scot uncovered some incredibly serious and concerning issues with two of the foundation walls in the basement. The flippers had covered up some crumbling, cracking and buckling of the walls. He also found a lot of other issues with the property, such as no insulation in the attic. We were saved from buying a house that was basically sitting on a sponge and would have needed extensive work on the foundation. Thank goodness Scot was so thorough, detailed and honest. He advised us without lecturing or pressuring us. We were able to make an informed decision. This month, we're happily on our way to buying our first home - one that has only minor issues (as any old home in Milwaukee/Bay View, WI would) that can be resolved and corrected. It was well worth waiting for the right home to come along, and we're so happy we walked away from the disaster that the flipped house would have been. Scot is timely, professional, thorough and honest. He turns his inspection reports around very quickly and they are incredibly detailed. I have already recommended him to friends (other first time home buyers who bought in Bay View) and would gladly recommend him again!

We used Towne and Country for the inspection of an old home we are purchasing. Scott was great to work with from the start. He has a wealth of knowledge and specifically, we appreciated his understanding of older homes. He was easy to talk with, ask questions and always made sure we understood what he was explaining. Buying a home can be overwhelming, especially an older home. Scott lets you know he works for you and gives you his honest opinions in addition to providing the facts you need prior to buying a home. He and his wife assured us from the time we called that they are available to us beyond the inspection. It is nice to know you have someone looking out for you and willing to help as you embark on the adventure that is owning an older home!

It went well. They were very friendly (his wife handles the phones)...she was WAY nicer than another company I called (and she talked to me for a loooong time...i'm a first time home buyer) He was on time and explained things. I got my inspection report very fast. It was well done with photos and LOTS of info. They only thing that I wish we would have known from the inspection is that there is cedar shake on parts of our roof...(but even some roofers didn't know). It would have changed some of the negotiating with the sellers...but we didn't find out until it was after the fact.

Scot did a terrific job, and I highly recommend him for home inspection and radon testing. We are homebuyers, and we chose Towne & Country after reading reviews on Angie's List, speaking on the phone with 3 different inspection companies, and reviewing a prior inspection report completed by Scot, which a friend gave us. Scot's wife Bonnie was a pleasure to speak with on the phone and very knowledgeable about home inspections as well. As to the inspection, Scot showed up early and was very thorough. He's obviously knowledgeable, and he told me all his observations as we viewed various aspects of the house (a 1960s single family colonial). He also gave many useful pieces of advice for maintaining the home, which we consider to be a "bonus" in addition to the basic inspection services. Importantly to our sale, Scot has a large 'rolodex' of trustworthy contractors in the area (e.g., roofers, plumbers, etc.) for follow-up inspections and possibly work for items that need repair. In addition, Scot emailed us the inspection report the night of the inspection, and he answered multiple follow-up emails, usually the same day. It's evident that Scot loves his trade, and that shows in his professionalism and excellent work product.

I had the unique experience of being the recipient of Scott's services for the house I bought, as well as the "victim" of poor service in the inspection of the house I was selling. The house I was buying was less than one year old, and there were very few problems. I thought Scott did and okay job with the inspection, and provided insight into things I should look for in the future. I expected him to be more thorough, including inspection of the roof and garage attic, but since I knew the house was in good shape, I was not too concerned. He seemed reluctant to do much ladder work, and took no responsibilty for appliances. On the 20 year old house I was selling, Scott concluded that the roof was "shot" without actually climbing up on the roof. This turned out to be incorrect, but required me to bring in a contractor and finally an independent roof inspector to appease the buyer. Then the buyer proceeded to use this opporunity to ammend his offer, reducing the price of the house by $4,000. I consider Scott's approach to the inpection, and his flippant remarks to the buyer to be totally unprofessional.

Scott was very prompt to our appointment. He started in the basement and walked us through all the issues and potential issues he saw. He was very thorough and explained each issue to us in detail and if he felt we would need to seek a licensed professional's opinion he gave us his recommendations on who to use to get a quote. He continued from room to room throughout the whole house including the attic and outside the house. He put all of his findings into a report including pictures within 12 hours of his inspection. His inspection was invaluable to our home buying experience. Since we were buying a foreclosure we were unsure of what to expect, but knowing all the potential issues gave us confidence about what we were getting into.

We hired Scot for our home inspection on our first home in 2004. We were happy to have him come back for this inspection as we purchase our second home. He is very detail oriented which is very helpful in understanding the mechanics and any potential issues in the home. What I appreciate most is he gives you a straight and honest answer on issues/potential issues about the property regardless of whether the realtor is standing there or not. In other words, he is there to point out potential issues for the home owner, not to get repeat business from a realtor. He arrived on time, started in the basement and then took us around each room of the house after he had time to assess everything. We had plenty of opportunity to ask questions and discuss the property. He takes pictures of the good, bad and questionable of the property and uses them to substantiate a full report that you receive within 24 hours via email. This report is helpful for countering with the seller, showing the seller what the inspector found, creating a list of 'To Do's' for yourself of items to fix and to share with friends/family who want to take a peek at the potential property. The experience went well and we would use Scot again!

After the home inspection we found there was a ton more than the $40,000 worth of foundation work so we backed out. The price included $175.00 for the radon inspection. We do not plan to use them again even though we have to have another house inspected. There were a lot of things he couldn't tell because of the snow and other issues, but it was a little too vague. Obviously there were overwhelming problems and at some point he just stopped. There were a lot of things where he said to hire licensed people such as plumbers and electricians to evaluate. We felt like that was why we were paying him so we were a little disappointed. It wasn't outstanding. He was punctual; he beat us getting there.

It went very well. He is a nice guy that knows what he is doing.

Scot arrived on time, explained the procedure and followed up with a comprehensive report.

Scot was extremely thorough. He discovered numerous issues with the property that my wife and I would never have noticed. From being the only person in the state with the specialized radon testing equip that found that the house had radon issues, to his discovery that the chimney liners needed immediate attention to roof issues. All in all, the cost we paid was minor compared to the value he provided. Our only hope is that the future buyers of our home do not use Scot for their inspection service. :)

We have used Scott before (for two homes), and appreciated his insights. We decided to use him again for our duplex (investment property). Not only was his home inspection very thorough, he provided potential solutions for almost all of the problems and/or recommended trusted contractors who could do the work. He also suggested that we take the Landlord class offered through the city of Milwaukee, and provided invaluable insights and suggestions as it relates to being a landlord.

Scot set our Radon test a few days before the inspection, and he noticed an issue right away with the basement and the furnace. He advised us immediately to consider getting a foundation consultant, which we did. He also helped me get information on the furnace issue, which really was great! We hit double digits on Radon (not good) and he uncovered a number of other issues with the electrical set up, the plumbing, windows and worked with the foundation specialist regarding the basement. Essentially Scot saved us big, big dollars on our purchase!! And saved us from headaches, heartaches and wallet-aches down the road! For $460, all that included, and our Radon. I'd call that a great ROI (Return On Investment)! THANK YOU SCOT! You know we are big fans of yours and will ALWAYS recommend you! We are first time home buyers. Scott made us feel at ease with our pending purchase. He was punctual, thorough and very knowledgable with regard to the condition and history of older home.

Overall, a very good experience. He was able to identify problems and suggest ways to obtain more information. We would hire Scott again, the next time we need a house inspected.

Scot is TERRIFIC! If you want someone trustworthy, honest, and knowledgeable looking out for you in your home inspection- then hire Scot! If you don't invest in a great home inspector- you could be making a MAJOR quarter to half million dollar mistake. Scot immediately recognized a roof issue, and uncovered a foundation issue. He also notes all the minor issues that fall under maintenance, and advised us on what we could do to repair. Scot was very patient with us and we asked a lot of questions! He gave us great confidence, and we knew clearly that he was completely on our side and carefully watching out for our interests. Based on the information from Scot, and the lack of dedication of the owner to solve the issues- we didn't buy the house. So- we'll be calling Scot back when we find the next ''prospective homestead''. PS: Another thing we liked was that when you hire Towne and Country- you get Scot- not some newbie grad of a home inspection class. Scot gets an A+.

Scot went above and beyond the expectations we had for a home inspector. He explained the results of the inspection with enough detail to ensure we understood the situation and made us feel we gained knowledge on our home without the need to be experts. He is both professional and extremely reliant. I have recommend his services for anyone who is in need of a home inspection for selling, buying, or insurance purposes.
