Wonderful design by the landscape designer. Creative use of decorative rocks and new plants. Workmen were professional and courteous. All the work was completed in a timely and efficient manner.

Called on Thursday and call was promptly answered by a gentleman, I do not remember his name. I explained that I was looking to have some work done to have a retaining wall built, patio installed and some plantings. He informed me that he would stop by the next day, Friday around 10 am unless it was raining badly in which case he would call and reschedule. Friday 10 am comes and goes and no sign of him, and no phone call to schedule something else. It is now Tuesday and I have not heard anything back from this gentleman. Have had two other contractors call me back and one of them will get the job since the Herman Landscaping representative was to inconsiderate to call me back. It is apparent they do not want my business. If you do call this company hopefully you have better luck getting a return call.

I called Herman Landscaping in late spring and Drew came within a week or so to talk about what we wanted. He came back with a plan several weeks later and made some changes that we wanted to accommodate our wishes and our pocketbook. We asked if we could delay the work until we were back from a trip during the drought and he accommodated that as well. The crew was speedy, considerate of the property and very thorough. We had a retaining wall constructed, old shrubs and stumps removed, patio blocks and boulders removed and new patio, plantings and sod put in place. The only add-on was additional cost for a large stump removal that was above the estimate. The project was completed within a week and looks great. We had several questions about care of the new sod and plants and never had any difficulty getting a call back from Drew or even having him stop by to check things out. I am glad that we asked about delaying the start of the project since watering twice a day was challenging even when we were at home. My husband and I are very pleased with the outcome and would hire Herman again. As an addendum, after a car hit our new retaining wall, Drew came out promptly to give us an estimate for repair of a few cracked blocks for an insurance claim.

The main purpose was to regrade the area so water was not leaking in my basement. After they took out the concrete slab, the area was area was not properly regraded as water is still seeping into the basement. I had another landscaper look at it and they said it was slopping the wrong way. After several phone calls and an email, I got no response from them.

The work was done quickly (two days) and there were six or seven guys who worked hard and constantly. I had tried getting other companies to come out and even give us an estimate but had trouble finding people who would show up, and having found Herman's via Angie's list I was very pleased.

Jeff Monson came out the day after I called to come do an estimate. He gave me a great estimate that I felt I didn't need to call other places. I called and confirmed the date for his guy to come to the work. He showed up on time and worked quickly to get everything done in one day. The invoice came and the pricing was right on the mark. All the work was great and done to my satisfaction. It was a great job.

On construction day, Drew came out and discussed the project issues with Karl (the construction crew chief) before construction started. The construction took most of two days and involved a BobCat, 2-3 truckes and a crew of Karl plus 2 assistants. Everything seemed very well organized as Karl has been doing this work for a few decades. We appreciated that Karl took great care in measurements and planning in order to get the patio and stoop laid out properly and sloped properly for drainage. Things were measured and checked at least twice before Karl proceeded. The crew was also careful in cutting and laying down the pavers to vary the pattern, matching the level of adjoining stones and keeping seams uniform. In the end, we are very happy with our new patio area. We think that the UniLock Yorkstone pavers really look nice with the natural Lannon stone edging that Drew suggested. The shape of the patio, also suggested by Drew, enhanced the look of the patio area and makes it more functional. It was a pleasure working with Drew and Karl and crew on this project. We give Herman Landscape Service an A rating based on our experience with this project.

Scheduling the work was the difficult part. When I contacted the company for an estimate, they came out right away. However, when I tried to schedule the work, I had a hard time getting a response back. I think it took three or four emails and a couple phone calls to get a response to schedule the work.The work that was done was fine. I was happy that it was done all in one day. I was unhappy that I was not told that there would be hay placed over all the new seed, so we had big spots with hay in our yard. We were also told after the work was done that all the new plants and grass seed would need to be constantly watered. This would have been fine if we had been told before the work was scheduled, but we had to leave that weekend, so we had to try to make plans to get it watered while we were gone. I also think they should have told me to wait to have the work done until the heat wave was gone. Because of the heat, two of the plants they put in died, regardless of how much we watered them.This year I emailed the company to find out what the dead plants were so I could replace them. I was informed that they were under warranty (which I didn't know about) and was told that the person I was contacting would come out within the week to look at them and get them replaced. A week went by with nothing, so I emailed again. Another week went by with nothing, so I called and left a message. Unfortunately, I didn't get a reply, so I called and left another message, with no response. I sent one more email and finally got a reply. It said that the plants were replaced that day and to "water, water."Long story short, the work was fine, but the customer service was seriously lacking. Based on my experiences with this company, I would not recommend them to anyone.

They came for the estimate when they said they would - prompt and friendly. I had to follow up with them to see when I was on the schedule, but once we worked that out they got the work done quickly and efficiently.

Overall, it was a perfect experience! From start to finish the process was smooth and a complete success. This was our first time using Herman as I found them on Angie's List, and the reviews here are accurate. Drew was our landscape architect and from the 3 different bids and plans I received, he listened the most closely to what I wanted and for all that the plan included by far it was the best price and certainly the most creative. Drew was very responsive to questions and modified the plan as necessary to fit our budget. Another aspect that we appreciated is that they have a big crew, so the project didn't drag on and on for weeks...they were done with the grading and hardscaping within 3 days. Carl was our foreman and he kept us informed of their progress and made great suggestions. We have done several building and landscaping projects in the past (on different homes) and Herman provides truly excellent service...we will definitely be using them again!

The overall experience was excellent. The price was good, because that kind of service is expensive in general. They were punctual, responsive, and professional. They were courteous. I would use this provider again.

The service went really well; we were happy with the results and felt like it was a reasonable price. They communicated well with us and kept in touch with us. They were very reasonable with their estimates and were willing to incorporate changes that we wanted into their plans. I will use them again in their future.

They cam in the day promised, completed all work in one day. Filled and leveled all the areas needed, did nice job selecting and planting yew bushes, and put protective covering on bare soil. Also they gave us some grass seed to spread after November 10th, to be there for next spring. Very good communication.

The work proceeded very smoothly in one and 1/2 days as was predicted by Ellen. She helped us come up with a patio design that incorporated our vision. Overall I was very impressed with the efficiency of the crew. I was pleased to engage a family run business that continues to be successful. I would recommend this company highly.

It all went extremely well. We needed them to come out on very short notice, both to remove everything and then to put it back before the bushes and plants died. They did the removal in just a couple of hours. They stacked the plants in the shade and told us how to water them until the sewer work was done. They lined up the pavers so that they could easly follow the pattern to replace them. When the sewer work was completed, they came right back out and put everything back the way it had been. All of the bushes and plants seem to have survived. In total it was about 12 hours work, plus they put topsoil around the plants when they replanted them. I found their price very reasonable and their responsiveness excellent.

The man who came out was very nice and easy to work with. They drew up plants for me and gave me color photos of the plants. I was going to go with him actually but then I have a neighbor who has a lot of experience with these sorts of things. I decided that I rather work with my neighbor because he and I can do it gradually and kind of think it out as we go. Most people would prefer Herman landscaping to came and say they could get this done in three days. It was nothing to do with Herman, if I was hiring a contractor to do the work for me, I probably would have hired him but I just decided to go with my neighbor. I was really torn and I was thinking that if I had any sense I would just have them do it in three days. I kind of just liked the process of working along with somebody side by side and doing it as we go. He gave such great service and I was really impressed.

They did good quality work at a reasonable price. The people were very professional. Overall, the work was very good. I would use them again in the future if necessary.

They were fabulous. I would hire them again in a heartbeat. I spent about $3200 on the job. Brian was the lead worker. He bent over backwards to make sure that the work was done well. He was very creative and had some really good ideas. It was important to me as I didn’t know what to do with the landscaping. I was extremely happy with how things turned out. The work really looks good. They were very punctual. I didn’t have any complaints with them at all. I am planning to call them back shortly. UPDATE: After drainage problems arose the following spring, I contacted Herman Landscaping to ask if someone could come out to our house so we could look at and address those problems. I was not asking for any free services, just a return phone call so we could discuss what worked and what did not work from the previous year. I left several voicemails, with several different people, but no one ever called me back. Needless to say, this was a surprise since they had been quite accomodating the previous year. It was also a great disappointment and quite aggravating. Although the original work was done very nicely, it does not sit well with me when customer service or complaints are not addressed. This experience has me rethinking Herman Landscaping as my choice.

I needed to have an overgrown backyard cleaned up and prepared for new landscaping next spring. I chose Herman based on their reputation and the fact that I had seen examples of their work. Ellen came to look at the site and draw up a plan and estimate. She was very professional, and I felt confident that she completely understood what I wanted to the landscapers to do. The estimate was reasonable and the work was done exactly as specified. The yard was a jungle when they started and I was impressed by the neatness of the completed project. The next stage will be to install new plantings in the spring to fill in the spaces where old shrubs and weed were removed. Ellen drew up an excellent garden design that fits the site and will be within my budget. This is a company that has been in business for a long time. They do things in an old-fashioned style, and I meant that in a good way! They didn't try to sell high-tech lawn care, or a maintenance contract, or anything else unnecessary to the project I wanted done. They listen to what the customer wants, and that is what they will do.

It was fantastic both times I used them. They were reliable, honest, and did very high quality work.

They have come out a couple of times. They haven’t done any work yet, but we have decided to go with them. They are reputable and have been around for a long time. They always answer our calls and seem to be sincere and genuinely interested. I might call them back for more work towards fall.

We first contacted three people for bids and based on the quality of the bid we chose Hermann. What impressed us the most was that they were prompt in returning calls and also developed a plan that was more than the bare minimum we asked for - without being beyond our targeted budget. Drew was great at helping design the patio to be both functional and look like more than just a square brick patio, suggested several plants, and also suggested areas where we could save on costs. After signing the contract it took ~2-3 weeks for work to start and everything went smoothly. They did a great job and cleaned up the yard very well after all of the work. We've been happily enjoying our yard for the last month - worth every penny.
