Description of Work: We've used Chad for various projects over the last 5-6 years (replacement windows, attic insulation). We've never had a bad experience. The quality of the work is incredible, attention to detail is one-of-a-kind. If something isn't going right, it's usually Chad's team that notices it first. | |Yes, they are expensive (usually the most expensive), but that's due to (a) quality, and (b) a business owner that pays his employees a decent wage. I rated Chad an "A" for price (even though it's not cheap) because the price is reasonable given the quality and what it takes to pay people appropriately for their work and skills. | |We've used other contractors for some jobs over the years and I've always regretted it. Chad's is #1.
Description of Work: Renovated one room of house, removed ceiing, flooring & wall finish, insulated and reinstalled, replaced baseboard heat fixtures. Fixed attic ventilation and insulated, installed new fascia and soffit covers. |Carpenter very detail oriented, good followup with any issues.
Description of Work: I called them twice to come out and work on a small repair project on my house (small, but probably at least a few thousand dollars). I never heard back from them. I would consider them in the future because of their reputation, but I am disappointed by their responsiveness.
Description of Work: Apparently the job was too small, but I don't know for sure. He never got back to me despite the 2-3 times I called back asking for a follow up appointment. A professional should at least call back and if their company can't help, even perphaps recommend someone else in the business who can help!

We never had any work done by them. Chad was very thorough. He really looked into what we wanted and provided good ideas for the remodel that would also be very energy efficient, which we liked. We would probably not use his services in the future since we found his prices to be a little bit more expensive than we were wanting.
Description of Work: We received an estimate from Chad's Carpentry about two to three years ago for remodeling a basement.

They were professional. Their prices were too high. I would use their services in the future also.
Description of Work: I used Chad's Carpentry services for an estimate for remodeling services. They provided me an estimate three weeks ago.

I did not go with him because his quote was too high so I decided not to go with him. I'm sure that he would do a good job but his bid was insanely high. He was professional and prompt. I liked everything about the interaction with him and his company. It was probably too small of a project than what he is used too. I didn't give him any feedback on that but I did seek out some other quotes. The one I went with was not the exact same sort of project but it was more in my budget. He seemed to do a lot of bigger projects and it probably would have taken him more time to do my project.
Description of Work: I got an estimate from Chad's Carpentry to do a screened in porch.

They did a great job. He was listed No1 on Angie's List. Chad was personally involved. The work was done quickly and professionally. They deserve a No1 place as far as I'm concerned.
Description of Work: Chad's Carpentry came out today to install a doggy door, shelves in the garage and also did little work on the shelves in the kitchen.

The carpentry work done by Chad's Carpentry is excellent. All other work was done by sub-contractors. They took time for discussions with me and time to do a very careful job. They worked around my desire to do painting, staining, varnishing and wallpapering myself. I was told that, unlike other general contractors, they inform the client that they charge 20% for handling dealings with the subcontractors. The honesty is nice, but 20% seems excessive to me. They did a bit of carpentry for me at no charge, namely, constructing an arch over a path so that the rain downspout will not lay on the path.
Description of Work: The job included remodel of kitchen and bathroom, new boiler and improved heating system, new rain gutters, insulation in exterior walls, removal of knob and tube wiring, electric fixtures installation, and special concrete to smooth rough basement floor,
It went very well. Chad provided us with a time line and started pretty much on time, though it took longer than planned. We moved all our furniture out of the second floor and slept in the attic for the duration of the work. I was able to work in my downstairs office throughout. Everything was done very professionally and efficiently. I especially admired the expertise of the painters who applied the fiberglass reinforcing mesh to our walls. Other contractors had told us that it would be better to rip out all the plaster and start over with drywall. But the Pro-Cote Painting, LLC guys (who subcontracted to Chad's) did an amazing job: they repaired all the cracks and then sealed the walls with the fiberglass mesh. None of the cracks have re-opened, even to this day -- 4 years later. And I was very pleased with the suggestion Chads made for the door to our porch. Since it is used rarely and usually only to allow cool air into the house, he suggested that we have a roller screen door installed in addition to the solid door. This has worked out extremely well for us and I hadn't even heard of this kind of door before. The cost of the final work was more than initially bid and the work took longer than originally planned, but we were not surprised that there were some "surprises" in the walls of our old house. Also we asked for a few additional things done before the project was complete. We plan to call them back to help us with renovations on the ground floor.
Description of Work: We have a house originally built in the 1920s with out-of-code electrical wiring and badly cracked plaster walls. Chad's contracted electricians to replace the wiring in the second floor and attic. Plaster walls were repaired and preserved with fiberglass reinforcing mesh. All 8 upstairs doors whose surfaces were "crackled" by bad, past paint jobs were "dipped"; all old paint was removed; hardware was cleaned. All walls, ceilings, wood trim and doors were painted. Wood floors were sanded, stained and varnished. Several new windows and a door out to a porch was installed.

I called, I left messages, I sent emails. I talked to Chad two or three times, and he always said he would get back to me asap. But, he never did. It's been six months.
Description of Work: I contacted them to do have an energy performance evaluation done. I hired the person Chad suggested, and the evaluation went well. Then, I couldn't get Chad to come back and do the work.

Response from Chads Design Build
I do not remember this client, and the complaint does not make sense given our process. Once contacted, I will discuss the project and budget. IF the job seems like a good fit for our company, I will schedule an appointment, and then schedule a follow up appointment at that meeting, to present an estimate to the client in person. If a potential client has unrealistic budget expectations or if the work is not a good fit for our company, I will recommend other contractors to the potential client. Our focus and number one priority will always be the clients who have hired us to do a job, and we do bend over backwards to do the job well, and to recommend materials and techniques that will perform well for many years. I have occasionally informed clients that we are not interested in a project, or that the budget and the project are not compatible. I suspected that this happened with this project, and this is a really harsh review, given the fact that we never did any work for this individual. We have hundreds of satisfied clients and 19 years of experience, and I will always do my best to communicate honestly and professionally with existing and potential clients. Sincerely, Chad Speight, CR President, Chad's Carpentry

They are a good company. They work very hard when they are here, as well as clean up well. They are very easy to work with. We had a question on our bill, they adjusted it for us.
Description of Work: We had fans put into our bathrooms. They did all of the venting work in the attic.
