"[member name removed], We appreciate your contacting our company to bid on your staircase renovation project. I personally contacted you to let you know that we would have to pass on bidding the project when it had taken us too long to turn the estimate around. We did not feel we had the time to bid the project in a timely manner or space in our schedule to give you the service you deserved. We apologize that our respectful decline to bid your project inconvenienced you. Sincerely, Damon Douglass, owner & manager"
The work was done so well that even in various lighting (artificial or natural) unless you know exactly where the repairs were made, you can not tell it was done. Was very impressed.
Everything went pretty good. I felt more than comfortable with not being there during the day. Damon would come with some better ideas. When you called or emailed he got back with you quickly. I e mailed him one morning to ask him if could smell gas coming from furnace in the bathroom. The furnace is in closed in a closet. He and his workers said yes and by the time I got home there was a furnace looking at it Damon was not far by him when I got home. Sure enough there was gas leak in on of the fitting. The furnace guy stayed and fixed it. This was on a Friday night about five o clock and I think by the time they left it was close to seven.
The furnace could not get to the pipe that need to fixed so Damon had cut hole in the wall. I think it cost more for the wall to be repaired than the furnace. So that wall is now called Damon's wall. I am so glad that I said somthing and he was so fast on getting someone out there and even with hole.
Only thing I would do different is not have remodeling done right before the holiday's.
I am saving up money to get my kitchen and up stairs flooring and bathroom done by him.
The rewiring went smoothly overall and resulted in a more usable work space out in the garage. I put up the outside lights myself, which was a piece of cake, and we enjoy the ability to see out back after dark.
Damon employed a company called Air America for the installation of the ductless heat pump system, and they did a good quick job, leaving the house clean and warm.
We are very pleased with the way this all turned out, and are mulling over other projects to ask Damon about in due time.
The bathroom was also gutted with a step in shower replacing the bathtub. This bathroom is extremely small, but Damon Douglass worked around the difficulties and we ended up with a really nice bathroom.
We had a small but sneaky leak in our roof over the enclosed front porch and many repair attempts had been made but none successfully. Damon figured out where it was coming in from and fixed it - he also found another problem area and this too was fixed.
We love our new front door and the handrail for our interior stairs is lovely.
All of the work was exceptional. There were a few problems, but they were promptly fixed. The Douglass Carpentry team and all of their subcontractors were very professional, efficient and nice. They arrived promptly and cleaned up every evening. Remodeling a kitchen is very stressful, but they made it as easy as they could and finished on time.
We are absolutely delighted with all of the work and would highly recommend them to anyone who is interested in quality work at an affordable price.
at the end of the work day--which started on the day they promised when i came home i could barely tell they had been there, except the work was being done.
there was a problem with the shower door and fitting it to non aligned walls which was not included in the origian estimate they were willing to absorb that expense to complete the job.
Damon was quick to answer emails, texts and phone calls. I hardly ever had to leave a message when I called which was a big deal to me.
I only graded down on the price because the quote was originally for 30,000 and the end job was for 40,000 though some of the price inflation was because of the flooring we selected. It wasn't that big of deal to us.
"We are a bit blindsided by the complaints in this report. I believe that all of the issues that we have been alerted to have been corrected in a timely manner. We were requested to return to caulk cracking at the corners of the floor grout joint, which we have done twice and continues to be a problem. I had attempted to arrange a 3rd trip but had not heard back from the customer as to a schedule. Cracking is always an issue at points of differential movement in a non-elastic material like cement grout which we remedy with a matching sanded grout caulk per standard practices. In this instance it has been exacerbated by structural work that the customer has had done since the bathroom was finished. We bid the structural modifications, but the customer opted to utilize the services of another contractor. The work, as performed, caused sheetrock and plaster shatter lines, along with obvious settling across one of the doors. If, by jacking the floor up/down carelessly, that amount of damage was caused one would expect the grout to crack again as well. The creaking drain pipe was an issue we discussed immediately after the project was completed and I was under the impression that it was a moot point that we had agreed was an issue of the existing cast iron drain lines. If the client had felt that we were negligent in addressing the issue we would have opened back up the closet wall to try and address the problem further. We have never been contacted concerning a leak at the tub. The pitch in the floor was also never brought to our attention as an issue. The house is 90 years old and has had a rather interesting and structurally nebulous addition built at the back end of said bathroom. The subfloor was existing, as was the tub unit, so we did not even consider leveling the floor as there is a door at each end and it would have made a large step at the one entrance. Unfortunately, we do not have control over what our customers and other contractors do to their houses. We have tried to be responsive and addressed issues that arisen even after there were others working on the structure of the house. We stand by our work 100% and try and be as helpful as possible as issues arise - even after several years have passed and we are fighting against movement, gravity and others work. The last time I met with one of the two customers to assess the sheetrock/plaster damage we discussed bidding the replacement of their kitchen in the future, so needing to write this reply seems strange. I have contacted the customer again after reading and replying to this report to try to arrange the grout caulking again."
He was very nice, professional, and on time. He took a lot of measurements and gave some very detailed estimates. If we do go with them for the built-in unit, he said he would supply detailed plans on what the unit would look like. I would like to get two more estimates before I choose, but I am considering this company.
