We brought them out for an estimate and they explained things in great detail and were very knowledgeable. They gave us multiple options and explained the differences. We had very limited time, but they worked things out and got it installed very quickly. The price seemed a bit high from what I had heard from other sources, but it was very quality and professional, so it was worth the price.
Description of Work: They installed a high efficiency gas tankless water heater and removed and disposed of our old water heater.

They were pretty responsive. The experience was positive but I wasn?t sure that the solution was the best solution for the problem, but they did address the issue.
Description of Work: We used Greenwood Heating and Air Conditioning to look at our electric static filter. They recommended we replace it with a physical filter instead of the electronic filter, which we did. They also did some cleaning of the furnace.

Ed was great. He answered all of my questions, including funny smells and odors that I have been recently noticing. As a matter of fact, he was so thorough, compared to my previous experiences with furnace tune-ups that I decided not to use my $45 coupon, because he was worth the price.
Description of Work: Checked and cleaned furnace burners, pilot assembly, blower motor windings. Adjusted manifold pressure. Inspected heat exchanger. Checked for gas leaks. Checked blower amps, transformer output, power supply and temperature rise. This was all part of a furnace tune-up.

The furnace stopped working suddenly at my very elderly parents' home on an October Saturday morning. The Greenwood tech understood that this was a major problem and arrived within 2 hours. He diagnosed the problem, got the furnace running temporarily, and arranged to finish the repair the following Monday morning. On Monday, the tech arrived promptly, got the furnace fixed, tuned up and the heat back on. My parents and I were very pleased with the fast response time and quality of work, especially on a Saturday. When people that age don't have heat, it's a real problem and Greenwood understood the urgency and took care of it satisfactorily.
Description of Work: They diagnosed a furnace problem, did a temporary fix, ordered the part, came back two days later and replaced the part, and did a tuneup.

It was great. They were the only company to repair the unit, instead of replacing it like other companies recommended. They even guaranteed their work in case the repairs didn't resolve the issue. This saved us a great deal of money, frustration, and worry. We will use them in the future.

They did a great job. I am really happy with their work. The salesman was thorough. I am waiting for the city to approve the job they did. They needed an electrical inspection and they have not come out yet. There is a tax credit involved. It costed us $2900 after the tax credit. My son is vague on everything.

Excellent. Curtis Barr was right on time. I was given a call as he was on his way. Curtis showed me how to change the filter, which no one had ever done for me in the past. He also told me that my gas heater is getting old--it was put in around 1980 and he said it is still working but will probably need to be replaced in the next few years. He showed me the current rebates and tax deductions the government is providing for customers who upgrade to efficient heating systems. He also explained an available Consumer Protection Plan that Greenwood has available. This plan automatically and annually provides a scheduled tune up for me at a reduced rate and also gives assurance that if I have a problem with my system, whether it's Christmas day or whatever holiday, the company will send someone out to help us. There is also a better deal on parts that might be needed. I was very appreciative of this information, since I am not a person who is inclined to remember to do maintenance. So I joined the plan. After the carbon monoxide scare (which can be caused by faulty gas heaters) I now feel I have made a wise decision by joining Greenwood's plan.
Description of Work: Curtis Barr a Maintenance Technician came out to tune up my gas furnace, which had not been maintained at all since 2005. It had a filter in it from 2005. He explained that the filter should be changed every 3 months and told me what kind of filter to buy and where I could buy it. He also showed me how to change the filter. No one ever has explained so thoroughly what is required to maintain a gas heater. When I first called Greenwood I asked for emergency service because I thought I had a carbon monoxide problem. The day before Curtis came out, my carbon monoxide detector was going off. I called Poison Control and they told me to call 911 and 911 said to call the Fire Department non emergency unit. So I did. The firemen came out and I was relieved to find out that the detector needed to be reset and that there was no carbon monoxide. It was the firemen who told me that the furnace had not been maintained since 2005. So I got on angies list right away to find help, because carbon monoxide poisoning is often caused by faulty or poorly maintained gas heaters. The thing about this kind of poisoning is that you can't smell the gas that can kill you and the symptoms are very similar to flu, so it can be very deceptive if you don't know about it. I found this all out from Google, of course, which is where I went when the carbon monoxide alarm was going off in my basement. The results of this kind of poisoning is not pretty: brain damage and death.

Salesman was nice and personable. He did a brief heat loss analysis and came up with the same rate as the other more detailed one I got. He also asked specific questions about filter placement, vent placement, etc. to personalize my installation. Where he went wrong was when he still tried to sell me a unit that was too large for my house. He said because of the variable fan, it would still work just fine, but I didn't buy it due to the other company that I hired that said the size I had (which this guy tried to sell to me again) was way too large. I don't want to spend 5k on a high efficiency furnace and end up with a low-efficiency installation. If not for that, I might have gone with this company since their prices were the best out of the 3 that I got, but I felt they were not focused enough on correct sizing and installing it with the highest efficiency possible.

Although the installation was more complicated and difficult than anticipated, the technicians were always professional, patient and worked with us to place the vents and intakes in places that we suggested. They were cheery in spite of having to spend 2 days on a job that was originally scheduled for only one. I called the office later with some questions and received prompt responses. Based on my experience I would highly recommend this company. I appreciate their skill and professional attitudes.

Overall, we were very happy with the job. They showed up on time each day and were very professional. The gas pipe to the backyard took longer than expected, but they finished the job in 2.5 days. We had hot water each night, and answered all of our questions as they did the job.
Description of Work: We decided to bring natural gas into the house. Greenwood helped us complete the paperwork that the city required to install gas from the street to the meter. Greenwood then routed gas into the house. They installed a new furnace and tankless water heater, including all the water piping and exhaust work. We also got a new thermostat. For no extra cost, they ran a gas pipe to the backyard for a grill.

Greenwood's sales person was a master certified HVAC technician, which really inspired confidence since he had decades of experience doing the work that he was now estimating for customers. Since I prefer to talk with very technically knowledgeable salepeople the sales call for the estimate was a very positive experience. Kevin spent perhaps 2+ hours at my house answering every HVAC question imaginable - I had researched the subject for days before the appointment. His demeanor left me with a strong sense of honesty on his part, and his technical background put to rest my fears over the ability of an HVAC company to handle the job and ensure a good outcome. I attempted to negotiate with Greenwood a bit since they asserted that they could offer their own "summer" discount or honor the Angie's List coupon, but not both. In the end, they basically stuck to their position and I decided that the price they quoted was worth the outcome. I was particularly satisfied with Greenwood's no-hassle guarantee which states that they will not surprise the customer with extra expenses during the job - a guarantee that they put in writing and sign. This differentiated them from the other HVAC company that gave me a similar bid. The crew was two young technicians and they performed the job over the course of three days in late July - the three hottest days of the year in Seattle. I know that they suffered a bit and for that reason I cut them slack over the lounging that they did during the course of three days. I believe that they could have finished the job a bit faster but the weather slowed them down, and their work style was to take cigarette breaks with a fair degree of frequency. If I have any real complaint it would be that on their first day I had the windows open in my home office and their smoke was coming in the house - and I detest smoke! But it wasn't a major annoyance other than that first morning. The job ran longer than planned and Greenwood's crew showed up on time and plugged away. I spent a couple of hours or more talking with the technicians over the course of the three days - questions about the old system, about air flow, about heat pumps, electrical work, thermodynamics, the Lennox models I purchased, and duct work. The technicians were very willing to answer my questions and their knowledge inspired confidence. My only real concern is that I asked about new registers that might be needed in order to cool a couple of rooms and instead of getting advice and a technical assessment I got installation pricing. I would have liked Greenwood to present a more concrete technical analysis of the system needed to cool the house to the temperature I specified during the sales call. Though it isn't a surprise that one of my bedrooms is still not cooling to the level I would like, I would have expected an HVAC company to be able to tell me for certain that the existing duct work would not carry enough air to cool the room and offer a solution.
Description of Work: 18-year old gas furnace replaced with new high-efficiency model. Central air conditioning (heat pump) added to house. Duct work needed to accomodate the new system.

I called for an appointment and a "Comfort Advisor" (salesman) came out 3 days later. He spent about 90 minutes in our home and gave us a complete estimate on the spot. We thought about it over the weekend, called him on a Monday and the installers came out on Wednesday. I can't say enough about the installers, we've used the same company before for our new furnace and they're great -- prompt, professional, courteous and very knowledgeable about their projects. They left their work areas spotless and made sure we knew how to operate everything before they left.

The initial estimate and consultation answered all my questions. The salesman showed us several gas furnaces that would meet our needs and discussed the, price, rebates, installation and functions of each. We went with the top of the line Lennox, because it made sense after the rebates and tax credits were taken into account. The installer was right on time and had the unit installed and running in about 6 hours. The workman were fast, clean and relatively quiet considering the job.

A technician came out for an annual inspection and discovered a crack in the heat exchanger. An inspector confirmed this, Since the furnace/water heater were about 16 yrs. old, I decided to get them replaced. I was advised of the choices of equipment and the rebates, credits, etc. being offered. The installation took place about 10 days later and went very smoothly. After a senior discount being offered through Angie's List, the price was the amount as shown above. In addition, there were rebates from the company and the utility company and a federal tax credit available. Overall, I was very pleased with the result.

The project actually took a couple of average skilled handymen a little over 3 hours to complete, and maybe $50 in parts. The salesman also appeared somewhat condescending and not really interested. Would not recommend.
Description of Work: Had them do an estimate for a whole house fan installation. Initial response from the sales/marketing was very prompt and the person showed up on time. However, they wanted $2600 for the parts and labor, NOT including electrical work. The unit costs less than $900 retail. This means that they estimated the actual work at at least $1600. A blatant ripoff.

Salesman spent about 30 minutes at the house. He said it would be an easy job. I had many questions about filters, adding on demand hot water, duct planning, and air-source heat pumps. I felt like the salesman rushed through the process. I thought I'd receive a detailed estimate, but got a simple email with a lump sum number for furnace and ducts. I expected the estimate on a Friday, emailed him Monday, and finally received it Wednesday. It didn't have a lot of what we talked about such as filters, tankless hot water, etc. Very disappointed with the service. The estimate is about 1-2K less, but that's probably due to what we won't get.

This was a fairly simple problem and everything went very well. The technician was very nice, friendly, and efficient. He came on time both days. I wouldn't hesitate to use this company again.
Description of Work: Our electric furnace began turning on and off at half-minute to one minute intervals. I called Greenwood Heating and they sent someone out I believe the next day. The problem was simple and obvious (a burned wire), and he identified it right away and showed it to me and explained what was happening. He did not have the correct size wire in his truck so he said he would have to come back the next day to fix the wire. He came when he said he would and fixed it quickly.

Please see above notes. It went great, as would be expected with good customer service.
Description of Work: We were trying to evaluate whether to put in a heat pump and air conditioning, and we did need to replace our furnace. The sales manager and a sales associate came out and explained in detail the options along with the advantages/differences in a variety of scenarios. We elected to just replace our furnace, but know what to do if we do decide to add air conditioning. They were prompt, and easy to work with and paid attention to quality. They called afterwards to check on our satisfaction, and also helped us to learn about and use available rebates.
