O'Neill Plumbing

This was the classic story of the horror of a toilet overflowing for no apparent reason, the initial panic of "what am I gonna do?", the quick checking of Angie's list, and the relief of speedy professional resolution. At about 3pm on a Thursday afternoon, just getting ready to leave the house for an appointment, I discovered a pool of water on the floor in the doorway of our lower-level bathroom, carpeting around the toilet soaked, and evidence that the source was backup from the toilet (which must have happened within the previous hour and for no apparent reason). Yikes! My husband and I did some quick information-gathering: nothing unusual had gone into either the upstairs toilet or this one; flushing the upstairs toilet caused the waterlevel in the downstairs toilet to rise to almost-overflowing and it wouldn't drain even with plunging; the downstairs shower was backing-up from the drain when the toilet was flushed. Yikes! it was late in the day and we had non-usable toilets! Having recently used Angie's List for other services, I immediately logged in to Angie's, searched for plumbers, skimmed the consistently high reviews for O'Neill's Plumbing, and called. It was late in the day and, as might be expected, their plumbers all busy on jobs, but the dispatcher said that she would check in with them to find one who might be finishing up and able to come. Sure enough, within a few minutes she called back to say that Steve would arrive within about 30 minutes! He did. After a quick assessment of the situation -- probable blockage in the sewer line-- he got to work, covering the carpeting with clean protective mats, rolling in his massive power cabling machine, and systematically running cable into the cleanout stack. The culprit was apparently roots, and the event was apparently triggered when the hampered drainage capacity was overtaxed by flushing the upstairs toilet while doing a load of laundry. In less than an hour the sewer line was cleared, the reasonable fee paid (made more reasonable by the $30 discount for Anglie's List members!) and I could get on with the necessary aftermath-- wet-vac to get the worst of the water out of the carpet, lift the soaked carpet and pad, set up fans, etc. Oh, the joys of home ownership! But within 4 hours of the initial panic, all was under control, and I was cleaned up and showered and sitting down to dinner. Oh, the joys of Angie's List!

I think they should call me and refund the charges. I had to pay for the same work twice. They never called me back to remedy my first complaint.

They showed up on time. Everything seemed to work. When there was a problem, they came back and resolved it.

I liked that they were very prompt. The person was pretty straight forward and decent. He fixed the part that was leaking and told me that it would hold the leak over until I got back from out of town. He was able to fix the leak quickly.

They came out and repaired it for us. The guy that came out was prompt and polite. He was also conscientious.

They were good, but they were expensive.

The plumber sent showed up early (which was welcome, in our case). He came up with a hypothesis, discussed it by cell phone with colleagues, and changed it. He ended by collecting a line from the toilet supply to the faucet in order to back-flush the line. Rust particles appeared in the outflow from the (temporarily) downstream basement faucet, and on re-assembly, normal flow was restored.

It was a bit frustrating. I explained that it was a specialty faucet. The first plumber looked at it and said, "I am not the right guy. They need to send the faucet specialist". So, we scheduled a second appointment for the faucet specialist to look at it. He figured it out right away. He was very helpful and suggested to we order two repair parts. When he returned to do the repair, he taught us how to do the repair should/when it occurs again. So, he saved us the call for another repair in the future. It took a couple of weeks to get the right part. And, the whole process took about a month. We were happy with the outcome, it just took a long time.

Extremely good experience. They came in right on budget, which was $5,000 less than the most expensive bid. The others seemed shaken by the unique valley design of my house, but they were unscathed and proved their skill by completing the job in just a couple days. They did it in a relaxed, professional manner and even followed-up with a phone call to see how things were working afterward. Hands down the best company in town in my opinion.

They were wonderful. They were very knowledgeable and punctual. One of things I like about them is that they didn?t completely replace all of the parts. They did not replace the parts that were already there which saved me some money. They were good at explaining how the equipment worked and how to take care of it. They were great.

The quality of workmanship is top notch. Ken, the lead plumber on the job, was excellent: efficient, polite and professional. He worked with the city inspector to come up with a no-cost workaround to a code issue related to the new water heater's PRV capabilities when it otherwise would have required substantially more work and opening more walls. The work was completed in 2 days with a couple of followup visits to tidy up some issues. They weren't the lowest bid I received, but they were close to it and the work they did was impeccable. I can recommend them unreservedly and will definitely use O'Neill again in the future.

I called them at 10am and they were here by 2pm. John arrived on time and worked very quickly. He snaked the drain and then tested everything to be sure it was fixed properly, including both sinks, the dishwasher, garbage disposal, and the basement plumbing. The whole thing only took 30 minutes and I got my Angies List discount so it was less than I thought it would be. I would definitely call them again.

After years of struggling with sewer line problems and basement leakage, we realized we couldn't put repairs off any longer. Cevin from O'Neill came out to talk through the possible causes and solutions. We moved forward on one repair, which uncovered that the sewer line had collapsed. Cevin quickly helped us develop a new plan, worked with our neighbor (shared sewer line) and a concrete contractor. This was by far the most money we have ever spent on a home repair. It was stressful and frustrating, but Cevin and the whole O'Neill team made it so much easier than it could have been. They helped us trouble-shoot, they outlined our options and kept in constant communication. They did all of this with a great sense of humor. Thanks to Cevin and everyone at O'Neill. I can say we put them to the test. I highly recommend them!

The plumber had to turn off our main water supply at the street. He ended up having to dig it out to find the turn off. He was able to completely fix our shower and replaced the stems, which I had been told by other plumbers that they could not get out. I had also been told by a previous plumber that we needed to change all of our pipes due to to much pressure in the line and that was the cause of our leaks.

The plumber was actually a bit early, and took the time to look at the outside hose faucet issue that I mentioned in the email. Once on the main job, he too had difficulty snaking the old system, but got it done, and and sealed the associated leaking sink drain. He had a look at our leaky kitchen faucet and suggested ways we could fix it ourselves, made similar suggestions about the hose bibs, and also had suggestions about our 15 y/o water heater. Very efficient, professional and nice! Apparently charges $95 first half hour, $80 second half-hour, comparable to others, maybe even cheaper with a coupon.

The flush valve on my upstairs toilet went out about 1:00 am so the water in the toilet ran constantly. I was able to shut off the water but I needed to get it fixed - soon. I wasn't able to call O'Neill's until about 1:00 the next afternoon. I asked if they could possibly come out that day (which would have been a miracle). Of course they couldn't but were able to send someone at 7:30 the next morning which was great. The office person was responsive and worked around my schedule. Ken arrived at 7:35 and brought everything he needed with him from the truck so he didn't have to back and forth. He replaced all of (old) the parts in the toilet and cleaned up after himself. I had a couple of "while you are here" problems which he looked at and explained how to repair them...even showing me where in my "plumbing repair" book to look. I thought the price was a little high but I really had nothing to compare it to and they really did a great job - quickly. They were responsive and Ken was great and I will probably use O'Neill's again. I already recommended them to a friend of mine.

I received a call 30 minutes prior to arrival as promised. Nels was very helpful in explaining what he was going to do and also some helpful tips on additional items to think about prior to doing any extensive landscaping or remodel work (which we are going to be doing). Will definitely use O'Neill Plumbing again!

Pete arrived on time and ready to work. He got to work right away on the sink and plumbing problem. He would call me into the bathroom so he could explain the steps he was taking to fix the issues. Very few companies or service people will take the time to go over the job with someone. At one point he had to run out for parts and we were not charged for time "off site". The sink looks great! We are very happy with Pete and O'Neill's Plumbing. I have used them 2 times prior to this, and will continue using them. I feel you may pay a little extra, but the service and trust you get cannot be beat.

The work was done in a timely manner. Dale was supposed to get back with me within 10 days re: the tank piping issue. He failed to do so and I had to call the company twice to get him to return the call as promised. When he did call he was polite, efficient and very business-like. He had the requisite information so that I knew no further work was needed.

Very helpful and professional. Identified the problem, beyond just the clog, and proposed a solution to fix the problem. Fixed the problem and unclogged the drain.

Everything was very easy, Steve cleaned the affected trap and suggested re-routing under the sink to allow for better drainage. He has the parts and was in and out in under an hour.
