Our Homeowner's Association worked with Rick M. for several months on a fix for a soil erosion issue under our building. After not resolving the issue we were sent a final bill for over $300, which included the 20% management fee. I had to constantly call and email Rick for updates, time after time. When they came out to perform a fix they said we needed a permit. They actually did not need a permit, two better qualified companies actually confirmed that for us and did the work for us. Please take your business elsewhere if you have the opportunity, McBride does not deserve it.

We had major work that needed to be done on our house, due to flooding that affected the house's second floor, the ground floor, and a finished basement. The floors (both wood and carpet), ceilings, walls, and fixtures had to be repaired or changed. The complex project required a bunch of subcontractors. The initial communication went fast and well, and the estimate was comprehensive and approved by our insurance. We had some problems communicating with the project manager to finalize the scheduling, but that got resolved pretty painlessly, and we could get McBride to do the work in exactly the 3 weeks that we were able to move out of the house. The work was completed on time and was excellent on all levels--the house looked as good as new when we moved back. The one upgrade we asked for, replacing some carpeting with wooden floor, was discussed in detail, agreed on, and we were given a written contract for the out-of-pocket cost that this would take. There were other minor changes that we asked for, within the approved budget, and McBride and its people proved very flexible in accommodating them. The only issue that arose was the one with the moving company (which McB had apparently in the meantime stopped working with). They did not take proper care of some items. Worse yet, they totally went over the estimated moving cost that was approved by our insurance and agreed on by McBride as the main contractor. McB did not catch that at first, so our initial invoice from them, which should have contained only the extra upgrade we had agreed on, showed instead this additional huge (!) amount due for the moving. The issue took some time to resolve as we went back and forth between McB and the insurance. In the end, McBride, who had already paid the movers, "ate" this considerable extra cost themselves. This was the right thing to do -- but still it was a huge relief to see McBride behave in such a professional and fair way once they got all the facts straight. I hope they have better movers now. We are more than pleased with all the other aspects of their work and would hire them again without a second thought.

Sometimes they wouldn't call or answer my emails. They claimed that if they drilled a hole in the bath tub, it would cause the bathtub to crack. The hardware store was the one who gave me the piece to fill me in. There was no flow. They were disrespectful because they thought they were dealing with women who didn't know anything.

Everything was done in a very professional manner from the beginning to the end. We stopped by as the work was done, and we were pleasantly surprised by how the crew was executing it. It was well organized, clean, and the crew seemed knowledgeable. Our place requires extra caution with moisture isolation they obviously knew what they were doing. The management, both from McBride and the hardwood floor superintendent was responsive and punctual. In our case, there was an insurance company, a homeowner's association, and a management company involved, not an easy case to deal with so many entities. McBride folks knew exactly how to handle everything and get it moving expediently. After work was done, there was a defective plank (a manufacturer's defect), and they responded and replaced it quickly. This company is on our list now - we'll be happy to hire them for another job
Description of Work: Removed all hardwood floor and installed new floor.
They were very professional and timely. They followed up with all requests and finished by the date they agreed upon. Very happy!
Description of Work: Our condo flooded due to a ruptured washing machine hose. McBride replaced door frames, base boards, repaired wall board, painted, and replaced cabinets.

Between the insurance company claims adjuster and McBride Construction it was the worst experience I have had with an insurance claim. I might as well have been the project manager myself with all the time it took to coordinate and schedule between the two companies. Work was eventually completed and done to our satisfaction. Small jobs do not appear to be a priority.

Everyone we worked with at McBride was personable, courteous, and professional, and we were happy with their quality of work (especially the painter - he was great). The biggest issue we had was communication. We considered doing a bathroom remodel at the same time since our bathroom was already torn up, but due to communication issues we ended up deciding to skip the remodel and just have them complete only the repairs. Before we could commit to a remodel we needed both the estimate for just the repairs that McBride gave to our insurance company, and we needed a separate estimate for the remodel. We didn’t get either. We asked for the estimate for the repairs multiple times, but McBride never got it to us so we had to get it from the insurance company. As for the remodel estimate, McBride gave us a ballpark, very rough estimate, but when it was time to get a more specific estimate we never got one. They even had different people come out (such as a flooring person, a glass person, counter person, etc.) to talk to us and take measurements in order to give us a more specific estimate, yet we never got an estimate. This was all due to constant miscommunication. We kept waiting for information from McBride before we could make certain decisions, and yet McBride kept waiting for us to make decisions. For instance, they didn’t seem to understand (even though we explained it) that we needed prices for different kinds of flooring before we could make a decision on what type of flooring fit our budget (i.e. how much it would cost – based on the measurements that they took – to do the bathroom floor in vinyl vs. ceramic tile vs. natural stone tile.) That seems like common sense, right? Yet they were waiting for us to tell them what kind of flooring we wanted before they did the estimate. So a week or two would go by while we both considered the next step to be in the other person’s court. And this is only one example. Finally we completely scrapped the remodel and just had McBride do only the repairs. We were tired of not having a toilet upstairs and just needed it done. (To give you a time reference, the water damage happened in July, but it took until May before the repairs were done. This was how long we went back and forth.) To be fair, maybe the communication issues were just as much our fault as theirs. But we’ve never had an issue with other companies in the past so I have no idea why we would have an issue with McBride. Either way, the communication was bad enough that we won’t hire them in the future.
Description of Work: We had a toilet break in an upstairs bathroom that caused a fair amount of water damage both upstairs and downstairs. Our insurance company hired McBride to do the repairs (which is why I listed that the cost was $0).

The biggest frustration I had was that the project manager was hardly ever here and would call and say he was coming by and not show for days, then rush in and out. There were weeks when no one was here working at all. My impression was that McBride gives the project managers too many projects and they can't oversee all of them.

This was the company that the insurance recommended I use. And unfortunately while I was the client of McBride, it was clear that they treated me as no one, and the insurance company as the client. They bid the job low from the beginning, and then kept raising the price after they got the job. The result of this was that other good contractors who bid the job, were higher in the initial bid because they could see what would really need to happen to get the house back to pre-fire condition. Instead McBride knows they can bid low, help the insurance company out by not fixing some damage unless the homeowner insists. Then they know that the insurance company will approve. They also told me upfront that they can get changes through that other contractors may not. The repair result was mediocre at best, and for a price higher than what my preferred contractor bid...because he bid all the items that were eventually done. As just one example, when none of my interior doors closed (at all) when they completed the work, they insisted, arrogantly, it was because I had an 'old house' and the doors must not have shut before they removed them...even though I had them mark the top of each door so the doors could easily be re-hung on the correct doorway. Eventually (and with great discussion, including legal assistance) they came back out removed each door and checked the top for the location of where the door belonged, re-hung them in their original location, and the doors, of course closed. So while this was many years ago, it is hard to forget the on-going 6 months of bad experience.

I found McBride's through my insurance and thought it might be easier to hire a general contractor than deal with hiring individuals to do all the separate pieces of this job. I was wrong. Next time, I'll hire individuals. Apparently, these companies pay to be on a list that the insurance company gives out to it's customers. After my experience, I have to assume the insurance does not vet the companies first. The site manager communicated very poorly, and this caused a lot of stress in itself. Secondly, for many steps of the job, I had to perform quality control--the manager did not perform that function. For example, the first carpenter assigned to install the molding was not a finish carpenter and had trouble with curved cuts. He also invented a corner style that did not match the rest of the house. The painter wanted to fix the carpenter's mistakes with caulk and paint. He became quite angry when I suggested otherwise. I had to ask that a finish carpenter redo the work, and that they send another painter (which they did, and the second painter was careful). I had the feeling McBride's just wanted it done as quickly and cheaply as possible, and hoped you wouldn't notice any mistakes. Ultimately, because I was on them every step of the way, the work got done and it was acceptable. On the final invoice, they included a charge for taking out the dishwasher and then reinstalling it ($267). The dishwasher was never moved, at my request. This could have been a simple error, but the company was nonresponsive after several inquiries. I had to call my insurance to have the matter taken care of. The site manager should have monitored the work of the subcontractors. The whole process which should have taken a month at most, took about several months. I would characterize it as miserable.

They were really really good about getting my wife back into her business as quickly as possible. They were really good about staying in touch with me, I was able to call the foreman, Mike Bascom and talk to him on a daily basis if need be. James Serres was the project manager and was also very easy to get a hold of and very helpful. The plumber they used was also excellent, he reset a toilet for us. Mike would even move our washer and dryer around the home so we could do laundry during the repairs.
Description of Work: The entire bottom floor of our home was destroyed because of a water main break. It went through our septic system at a rate of 30 gallons a minute. The bottom floor of our home and our basement, which houses my wife's business, had to be completely refurbished. They had to take a foot of drywall out of each wall to disinfect and clean. They tape textured and painted all the walls on the bottom floor. They replaced all the carpeting and flooring on the bottom floor of our home and the basement. These are just a few of the things they did for us, it was a large insurance claim. They also used a sub contractor for the plumbing work.

Estimator came out prior to asbestos work. He looked in home but decided to come later after asbestos work was done. An estimator from another company was still in the house at the time. McBride reportedly had a meeting at the house and notified the asbestos guy but never notified homeowners. Eventually provided a very rough estimate, very high.

Description of Work: Iam a Handicapped veteran and do to my condition I cannot do a simple repair to my siding on the side of my house. I found Mcbride Construction on Angie's List and I spoke with Todd and told him my siituation. Unfortunately Angie's List doesn't take in consideration that there is a great big body of water between the Kitsap Peninsula and Seattle so 25 miles is actually 68 miles one way. Aany way Todd told me it would cost me way to much for his company to do the work (one Slat reinstalled) for that distance so he gave me a competitors Name and phoneee number to call that wasn't on Angie's List "Nordic Services"

Last winter we had pretty extensive water damage in our condo just in time for the holidays. Our neighbor that caused the damage recomended McBride and we went with them since our insurance wouldnt provide a recommendation. The job started off well and they were quick to communicate with us in the begning. We even decided to do add on tilling in our kitchen while we were doing construction. Perhaps thats where it fell apart. We needed to know the extra cost of that job since it would be out of our own pocket and it took them over a week to get to us delaying the repairs to our condo (they stopped work since they had to wait on our flooring decision) The subcontractors they hired for insullation and flooring install were fabulous. Painting, not so much. We just found out they got paint on the sprinklers that now need to be replaced as a result. Also, not all the drywall was replaced and they did a spotty job patching holes. I had to go back over seveal areas myself. Just noticed too that they did not take off some of the light fixtures so you can tell if you look up that there is a difference in the ceiling white. Payment after was an issue too. They said that they work with insurnace companies but instead just kept asking me to call the insurance company. Too much hassel for an okay job.
Description of Work: Repair of water damage in condo
McBride construction was the company selected by the condo management company to and quot;re-constructand quot; much of my condo after a sewage back up destroyed flooring. Brad Haymore was the site manager and he was a gem! He made sure everything was done to high standards. He was the one who had to reassemble my kitchen cabinetry from a pile of wood in the middle of my living room floor to what it had been before the flood. It had to be removed because of water damage to the floor beneath. He did an amazing job! Troy Brogden, the estimator, was kind, patient, and on top of things from the get-go. The sub-contractors Brad hired were all good and I would use any of them again. Since my condo was being torn up anyway, I elected to have a few more upgrades and they handled these things smoothly. They even finished ahead of schedule! The outcome for all jobs was excellent. Overall, my experience with this company and the individuals assigned to my job was fantastic! I feel lucky to have learned about such an efficient and honest group of people who perform at a very high level. I am recommending them to everyone I know who needs services like what they provide.

They did an excellent job. They were very cooperative and worked really hard with us. They have been with us from 4/20/11 until yesterday when we took the final walk through on the house. We took their lockbox off and sent them on their way. There were over $200,000 in damages to the house. Their portion was probably a good $100,000. It was covered by our insurance. We went to a new insurance agent a couple of years ago and they recommended that we upgrade our insurance. The house is 600 feet above sea level and I always said that if Noah came by, I would hitch a ride. The agent had worked us through things and added flood insurance with no deductible. The agent said we would bring the house back to the way it was and they really did a good job. It included carpeting and painting. The house is just gorgeous. I am ready to move back in. We used our own painter and carpet guy. They did pretty much everything else. They subcontracted hardwood floors. Their responsiveness stood out. They had somebody that was responsible all the time so if we had a question, we had somebody to call. We had many people that we could call so we didn't have to wait for them to call back. If we had a question we heard back. The site foreman became our best friend so to speak. He was with us all the time and kept us up to speed and let us know what was going on. He worked with us when we had questions or weren't sure about what was going to happen. Somebody was always there to answer our questions. When you have a house that you are ready to sell and it is almost destroyed, it is very disheartening. We met with their senior management and management for meetings and they met us at the site. Everything was what can we do to help you. They met our time schedule. We were trying to get the summer selling season so we were losing time. They authorized overtime to work and get in to get things done so we could get it on the market as quickly as possible. That was important to us. We would call them again in a minute. The price was fine. The insurance company had absolutely no problem with their proposals and bids. They eventually were the ones that had to pay for it. They went above in terms of little extra things and did a lot of things. We changed out light fixtures. They said to buy them and they would put them in. They didn't nickel and dime us. They never missed a meeting. Another management person would come to see what we had going. There were no problems.
Description of Work: We used McBride Construction to fix our house. Our house had a broken water pipe upstairs so we spent 3 months rebuilding our house before we can sell it. They did the remediation on our house that flooded. They did the destruction. They came in and tore out all the walls and ceiling and they put it back together. They used a series of subcontractors for sheet rock and insulation.

McBride Construction promptly returned my initial phone call. They sent an estimator out to review the requested work. Their bid was the very detailed and the price was the best. The office staff was very professional in getting the contract signed and scheduling the work. They were very accommodating with our schedule. It was a small job so only one person was sent to do the job, John. John arrived on time and was very courteous. He removed the cabinets with a minimum amount of noise. Repaired the walls and painted them. He cleaned up when he was finished each day. Completed the entire job on time. The service we received from every person connect with this job was professional and exemplary. I not only recommend McBride Construction, but will use them for all future repair or remodeling jobs.

McBride was asked to prepare an estimate for water damage to my home. The "estimator/project manager" assigned by McBride was Jeff Leer who inspected the damage on 09/17/2010. The process of getting a final estimate involved four months of negotiation between McBride (Leer) and the local insurance adjuster. It could have been accomplished in no more than two weeks if McBride (Leer) had been willing to focus on this small project. It was finally completed in mid-February 2011 and only after relentless efforts to motivate Mr. Leer. Meanwhile, portions of my exterior siding and kitchen drywall were absent due to the "exploration" work. The insurance adjuster negotiating with Mr. Leer was endlessly waiting for him to respond. Mr. Leer returned my phone calls only after a week or two. He did little better with email. I found McBride (Leer) unresponsive and unwilling to work with me. On one occassion, I emailed Leer asking if he was "blowing off" my relatively small job and got no response. The McBride work authorization (contract) provided iron clad protection for the company and absolutely no performance assurances. After the frustrating four month experience obtaining an estimate, I informed McBride that I would require (1) another project manager, (2) guaranteed start and completion deadlines, (3) non-performance penalties for failure to meet such deadlines, (4) a financial hold back until completion, (5) no use of sub-contractors, and (6) receipts for all materials purchased. These conditions were unacceptable to McBride, and I was told to take a hike, which I did. In the end, I obtained a total of six contractor estimates. The McBride estimate was near the middle of the range, no problem there. But all five of the other contractors completed estimates in ten working days or less. Moreover, all five of the other contractors agreed to contract requirements 2, 4, 5 and 6 without qualifications. No. 1 did not apply and No. 3 was a non-starter. All were willing to discuss my concerns. McBride was not. My conclusion is that McBride is a large construction company with four layers of management specializing primarily in large, commercial projects. No doubt they do big well. However, based on my experience, they do not give a homeowner with a $13,000 repair project the time of day . Look elsewhere for satisfaction, especially in the current economic climate since there are many contractors out there hungry for work.
