Bought a "Whole House" deep cleaning from Amazon Home Services. The price was a flat rate, based on house size. They also guarantee the work ("Happiness Guarantee"). The night before, the owner of the cleaning company (YliClean) texted and asked how many rooms my house had, and I replied. She then texted "We probably can't do the whole house, because you only bought 5.5 man-hours of work." I probably should have cancelled then, but needed the house cleaned. *I did email Amazon that there was a problem with the pricing.* The cleaners arrived on time, did a good job, then stopped when they reached the 5.5 man-hour time. At that point they hadn't done the basement, basically vacuuming one large room and cleaning a bathroom. The owner texted that for only $35 more they would finish the job. I declined, hoping to work this out with Amazon. Later that day I got an email from Amazon customer service, saying they were sorry, the price was a flat rate, and the whole house should have been done. I mistakenly assumed my complaint would be forwarded to whoever handled the guarantee. This was over the holidays, so I assumed my complaint was being processed. However, after 8 days, I again emailed customer service, asking what happened to my complaint under the "Happiness Guarantee". The response was "Sorry, we didn't send it to them, we didn't know that was what you wanted, we'll send it now." Then I got back a response from the Amazon group that handles these. It said "You only have 7 days to file a complaint, so you are too late." I emailed back, pointing out that I had filed my first complaint the day before the service. The response was "You have the file the claim after the work is done." Also, the guarantee doesn't cover "dissatisfaction with the pricing". Paying for something and getting charged a different price is more like fraud than "dissatisfaction". At that point I gave up. Let me add that, while I understand Amazon wants to avoid people abusing the guarantee, the their cleaning service is the ONLY service that differs from Amazon's 90 day guarantee. The don't point this out on the page where you buy these services or in any of the many confirmation emails. You only find it if you dig into the long list of limitations on a different page. That page also says claims must be filed on a "Happiness Guarantee Claim form", which doesn't exist. I've shopped at Amazon many years with no problems, and was shocked to be treated so badly. I will never again use any of their home services.
