I looked up "Universal Mechanical Service Co Inc" on Angie's list on behalf of my brother. They were well rated, however upon hiring them to do a simple cleaning on his heating system, his experience was not a good one. Here is what he said: "I used Universal and they kind of screwed us over on the pricing... 2 hours round-trip from their office and onsite for about an hour, $30 part and maybe a few $ of cleaning solution was just under $600. $130 "diagnostic fee" + $270 part installation + $170 cleaning. At a minimum it seems that the diagnostic fee should have been rolled-into the part/install fee since it took just a minute to install once it was all apart. I called to see if there was anything they could do to help me out on the pricing, threatened to write a bad review on Angies List, and they said to go ahead... I did authorize it all, but stepping-back and looking now they took advantage of us - I found out that the part is literally $30 (I thought it might have been like a $200 part when I told them to go ahead and install it)."

The estimated time-frame given to us when we booked this service to replace our boiler was 1.5 days. By the end of the very long, problematic, and frustrating install the length of time for the replacement being up and running and functioning properly was over the span of one full month (ruining our Memorial Day Weekend, as well as their own). The replacement started promptly at 7am on a Thursday, estimated that they would be complete by the next day on Friday around 3pm. They were at our house troubleshooting the problematic boiler replacement until 9pm on Friday, going into the holiday-3-day Memorial Day weekend. Shame on us for scheduling anything that close to a 3 day weekend, lesson learned. They were not able to correct the issue and told us that we would be left with no hot water until the 3 day weekend was over and they would return to our house on the following Tuesday. At our frustrated response to that, they reluctantly scrambled to find a technician that was willing to work on a Saturday. That Saturday and Sunday of Memorial day weekend, technicians attempted to correct the issues so that we could have hot water, but they were unable to get the system to function correctly. Finally the issue was temporarily corrected, until the following multiple mornings where we would have to 'reboot' the boiler every morning to have hot water by turning the system on and off. Throughout this process the guys were all cordial and apologetic, yet at a point you just need competence and don't want to hear "I'm sorry" any more. Eventually our boiler has functioned correctly without us needing to reboot the boiler every morning. Now they are calling us to pay them the final half of the contracted amount without any acknowledgement that we were put-out during this service and the process was long and frustrating. I expected higher quality and competence for the amount of money involved.

The technician was knowledgeable and did a thorough job. He also followed up with a bid for a more severe problem discovered during the service for replacing a fan and motor. The bid was for $600 but I did it myself in about an hour with parts ordered on the internet for $200.

It was a good experience. The guy was pretty nice. He did other work like he verified the furnace. I had dumb questions on how to set the thermostat and he showed me how to do it.

Technician arrived on time. He checked all aspects of the gas furnace and cleaned what was necessary. He was able to fix a recurring noise/vibration. He was very knowledgeable and professional. I cant recall the date so I just picked one.

The service person came on time and did the job well. He was helpful and courteous. He explained all that he did and made suggestions for additional service that may be required in the future.

From what I could tell, he did just fine. It was an okay experience. He was late but he called ahead of time to let us know he was running late. He came, he did the job we ordered and no real incidence. I think the price is a reasonable value.

The service of the furance was fine. However, I also used this provider to repair my gas fireplace. The pilot light on the fireplace wouldn't stay lit. They came out, but didn't have the right part, so the repair was re-scheduled for two days later. I took another afternoon off work and just after I arrived home, I recieved a call that the part didn't come in. Then I was told they would call me when the part arrived. After a week, I called to see if the part arrived and yes, it had arrived, but for some reason they didn't call me, so I scheduled another appointment. The fireplace was fixed and the person left, however there was a strong gas smell that did not seem to disapate. I turned the pilot light off and called back the next day. They came out again and said it was fixed, but again there was a strong gas smell. I called back again and finally the fireplace was fixed correctly, but I had to leave work early five time before the repair was complete.

It went fine, pretty unremarkable. They didn't blow me away as being awesome, I didn't feel like it was a waste of money though. I thought it was a reasonable value for what I paid.

I was not happy with their performance so I didn't have them come back to do the job. They were here when they were supposed to be.

It was fine. They showed up on time. They did a good job. They were very courteous and clean.

He was good. He said our furnace was in pretty good shape but would need to be replaced in the next 5 to 10 years, which we expected. He cleaned it out really well. He told us the results of the inspection verbally and he also wrote it down.

That one was okay. It was a little different, we called up and scheduled an appointment last fall and then the person was not available and so we canceled the appointment and we just didn't have it for a while. And it wasn't until I found it later and he came in and I think he did a good job, so I would say good. It was just kind of follow up to get them to come in but once they're in, it went very well. There were some clean up we had to do afterwards but the worker was very punctual. Probably I would not use them, if we hadn't had remembered and followed up with them, we wouldn't have used the coupon at all. Once they canceled the appointment and they said they were to reschedule they just never did, so that was the one thing I'm thinking, that's a little bit too much work on my part.

Universal Mechanical Service can get As straight across the board. The people who came were great. They were punctual, pleasant and I think they tuned up our furnace. Everything just went well.

Universal Mechanical Service, Co., Inc., was okay. I would recommend them. I actually already referred one customer to them.

The service by Universal Mechanical Service Co Inc turned out very well. Rahtt was friendly, he was helpful, he went beyond what I had asked about and gave me advise on some other things and he was over all just a nice guy.

This was an Angie's List Big Deal, which explains the price. The technician did the maintenance and found one potential problem, which he suggested we hold off repairing until necessary. We will use this company again.

Great price for a great service. My heater is located in the attic, but they managed to get to it without much hassle. Very professional and polite technician.

They were good. They were in and out. They were very prompt.

It was difficult to reach them after hours. There number is routed to some company that takes the call and says they will call you in the morning and it did not happen, twice. I also e-mailed them after hours and did not get an answer back. When I called during hours it was no problem. I was happy with them.

Great. They came in and tuned the furnace and cleaned the ducts.

Although he went to the wrong house and didn't show (was understandably confused, when the neighbor's sister didn't tell him he was at the wrong house). We worked it out and he arrived later. He did a professional job and was thorough. We bought an older home and wanted to make sure the AC unit was running properly,

It went well... Servicer was personable and seemed to be thorough. He was able to answer all of my questions and didn't seem to find anything wrong with my system.

Came on time and did a great job. Very nice and did the job. Hey didn't have the filters with him but came by 48 hours and dropped them off at the front door. Since it was deal I hired them to come and do the maintenance on my heater.
