We were super impressed by Ryan Johnson. In preparing for our full kitchen and attic remodel, we met with so, so many contractors (GCs, flooring, carpenters, architects/engineers, etc) and Johnson Custom Builders truly came out at the top. Ryan was prompt and clear in all of his communications. He got in touch with me right away to schedule an appointment after I requested a bid. He showed up on time, and we had a thorough conversation about our project. He clearly has a lot of great ideas and knows what he is talking about. He quickly caught some elements in our drawings that could be done differently for better effect. As a woman who is interested in design and building, I often feel diminished or disrespected when meeting with contractors, but with Ryan it felt as if he was talking to me as a peer. I deeply appreciate that. After our appointment he promptly sent me a very detailed cost breakdown for a project that was similar in scope to ours, and was patient as I asked clarifying questions. In the end, we decided we wanted the adventure and learning experience of contracting the job ourselves, but will gladly come crawling back to Ryan with our tails between our legs if we end up needing to hire someone.

We have used Johnson Custom Builders for construction projects for 13 years and when we needed a complete update to our house to prepare it for sale (painting, wood floor refinishing, lighting, carpets, roof, pressure washing, etc.), there was no other choice for us. Ryan is incredibly detailed in his bid so there is no question about the work that will be delivered. He is on-site supervising the job, communicates regularly about progress, and ultimately delivers work that is impeccable. I highly recommend Johnson Custom Builders.

Overall the quality of work is great. If you don't have a dollar limit or your budget isn't an issue then you cannot go wrong with Johnson Custom Builders. The final product looks and functions wonderfully and we're extremely happy with it. We did go over budget and completed the painting and caulking ourselves to minimize our spend. Some of this was because of changes we asked for during the project and the amount of work we wanted done within our budget. There were also miscommunication issues that lead to additional work/cost necessary to complete work that we believed was already included. The GC was often not on-site for days (crews or subs were working) but our house is not on the east side and so it was a bit of a long drive for Johnson Custom Builders. I believe this is why we would be the ones to find issues with the workmanship or materials when we came home in the evening. They were always taken care when we brought them up.

This was our second remodel project with Johnson Custom Builders. Ryan helped us remodel the first floor of our home including paint, new flooring, lighting, updating the fireplace, and remodeling the kitchen. The project went smoothly and finished, to our delight, much quicker than expected. Ryan is a pleasure to work with. He's extremely responsive, has solid design ideas, and helped us correct issues as quickly as possible. We will use them again for future projects.

After working with contractor we realized that we were not ready for such a project. Contractor was very knowledgable, responsive, and professional.

Ryan was very responsive from the start. I was surprised when he answered his phone the first time I called him, and unlike other contractors he followed up with an email the same day. As this was our first remodeling project, Ryan was very helpful in explaining every step. He was upfront about timeline, costs, and concerns. The itemized cost analysis was very thorough with no hidden costs. You can really tell that Ryan takes pride in the quality of all his projects. While we ultimately decided to hold off on the remodeling project, we would not hesitate to contact Ryan for future projects and highly recommend his services.

We met Ryan twice for estimation and walk through. Wasn't able to work with him as the estimate was over our budget. Ryan was very kind and professional. We discussed about a lot different parts in our new home, and he gave great advices on each of them. Also he carefully looked over the home and spotted couple things that we can potentially improve.

This was our first remodeling project. Johnson Custom Builders remodeled our powder room, including adding a curbless shower. Ryan Johnson, the owner, was very communicative and great to work with. He walked us through the estimate as the first step, addressing any concerns. When construction started, he would communicate who was going to be at our house, when, and what work they would be doing. The process went fairly smoothly. If we had any questions or issues, Ryan addressed them immediately by either calling us or coming over to meet with us in person. The team that did the work was fantastic. The person who tiled our bathroom went above and beyond to make sure the new shower is as water tight as possible. We are thrilled with the results. We will be working with Johnson Custom Builders again on an upcoming kitchen/family room remodel.

We are experienced with renovations and were impressed by Ryan Johnson's promptness, communication, and quality work. He's a real pro -- responsive, responsible, and good for his word. We've planning to build a custom home on a plot of land we purchased. Ryan was very attentive, showed us high quality work he's done to another customer. We've seen the remodeled home, really nice work. He demoed excellent drawings and the detailed budget with itemized expenses. He spent significant time writing up pretty detailed estimate for us. His communication was fast and to the point. For various reasons we had to delay the project though. Nevertheless I'd highly recommend Ryan.

Ryan and his team did a really nice job. There were literally 0 surprises because Ryan is thorough and upfront about everything. The bid he put together was very detailed and indicated he thought through a lot and identified areas where I'd need to make some decisions before we could finalize the project scope. By the time the project started, I felt we had a precise understanding of what would occur. Other bidders gave me half a sheet with some high level notes of what they planned to do. In contrast, Ryan was super detailed. When minor hiccups occurred along the way, he was responsive and very communicative in addressing. Remodeling is obviously a stressful experience, but he did a great job at keeping it stress free. He consistently under promised and over delivered, which was really refreshing. I hadn't had extensive remodeling work done before, but he was super thorough in answering my questions and making me feel comfortable with the process.

A great job was performed with attention to detail and practicality. All the subcontractors seemed to enjoy working for Ryan which gave us great confidence. Even though a remodel can be a bit stressful, Ryan was constantly in communication by phone or in person to help us understand the process and answer all of our questions. He truly wanted this to be a "good experience". We learned a lot about how complicated and detailed building can be and have come to appreciate all that is involved in the process. All work done was of high quality. Ryan is very responsive and communicates well There were some delays but in the end it all worked out well Ryan and his subs were all very professional.

I had a great experience working with Ryan. My remodeling job involved a lot many pieces, small and big, such as flooring, paint, restructuring, electrical etc. that needed a lot of co-ordination. I was looking for a general contractor who could do quality work and handle everything from ceiling to floor within an agreed on time frame and budget. Ryan held true on all of my requirements. He is not inexpensive, but at the end all the money I spent on my remodeling was well-worth it. His attention to detail and working with you is a plus any day. He doesn?t try to force his ideas on you but does contribute a lot with pros and cons of the decisions you are taking. His work ethic and punctuality were the other pluses that I appreciated a lot. I would recommend Ryan for any project big or small and will also hire him for all my future projects.

Ryan (owner of Johnson Custom Builders) was everything he said he'd be and more. His communication, staff and quality of work exceeded our expectations. Ryan and his staff were a pleasure to work with. His staff arrived earlier than expected, were well groomed had a big smile on their faces and a big good morning and handshake. They said goodbye when they left. They really knew their craft and have been with Ryan for several years. Ryan communicated by email or in person every day so that you knew who was coming the next day and what they were going to do. Ryan was on hand the entire first day and came by every day thereafter. Ryan did a thorough walk through after each project. The project finished on time even with the additional repairs required. We plan on using Johnson Custom Builders for a larger project in the future. We had some misadventures with previous general contractors and were apprehensive about even making the first call. Ryan assured us he was different and he was. I can't express enough what a wonderful experience this was, even costing more than we anticipated we feel confident in his quality of work, his knowledge of his craft and his guarantee of workmanship..

Ryan is wonderful to work with. He had lots of ideas for us and always took our thoughts into consideration. Ryan also had to work with my daughter, who is developmentally delayed, because it was her bathroom. (She met with the different contractors as they came in to give us their bids and then let me know that she was defintely most comfortable with Ryan.) He did a great job of keeping her involved in the decisions being made throughout the process which I really appreciated. Ryan was always on time and made sure that everyone who came in to work on the bathroom were doing the same. He was very respectful of my time. If he was not going to be here himself, he always checked with me to make sure that I was happy with what was being done that day. All the tradesmen he used were also courteous and respectful. After the work was complete,we did have an issue with one of the drawers in the custom made cabinet. I contacted Ryan and he asured me it would be taken care of. His cabinet guy was here the next day. Several adjustments were made to the drawer but it still wasn't perfect. When Ryan followed up with me I mentioned that the drawer now functioned better but still had some small issues. He said it should be perfect and sent his cabinet guy out a second time. It turned out the glides also needed some adjusments and now the drawer is functioning properly. Ryan is defintely more expensive than his competitors, but the professionalism he brings to his work makes it worth it.

They were extremely professional and had great ideas for our project. They were out of our budget otherwise I would have happily moved forward with them.

Service was excellent and on schedule. Ryan responded to all my queries promptly and was extremely helpful throughout the entire process. We loved the end result and will do business again with him in the future.

Most of the sub-contractors were very good. Cabinet quality was so-so. Scheduling and communication about scheduling were very good. Followup after completion was also good. Be aware there is no contract nor commitment to the original bid with JCB. Project billings increased as the work went on. When the bid/billing had increased 62%, we said we would not pay any more. We did make changes/additions after the initial bid and expected cost increases. Many of the increases in cost had nothing to do with the changes we made.

Great experience. Ryan was communicative and bought great ideas to the table, but also listened to what was important to us.
