I hired Eli Contreras owner of Advanter Home Solutions LLC to remove my kitchen soffits, resurface the kitchen and dining room ceilings, install can lights, remove my tile floors, install new floors, baseboards, and re-frame my kitchen window. My first red flag was when he insisted on 50% up front. Industry standard is 10% - 15%. But he seemed like a genuinely good guy so I went with it Eli and his workers never showed up when said they would. On multiple occasions, he'd say they'd be back the next day a they'd never show up and never bothered to let me know they weren't coming. I repeatedly told him that I would appreciate a heads up if they weren't going to come over as scheduled. He never once gave me a heads up or proactively communicated with me. I always had to ask him what was going on. They would go several days in a row without showing up without explaination. When they did show uo it was never for more than 3 hours at a time.The original esimated timeline for project to be completed was a week and a half. The project started on May 20th and wasn't finished until June 14th. That's more than double the original estimated timeline. I am a single female and I am the sole owner of my home. I have a male roommate that rents a room from me. During one conversation, Eli started describing something that needed to be done to my roommate and ask my roommate if he thought the idea was ok. My roommate and I both reminded Eli that I am the home owner and that I hired him so everything needs to be run by me for approval and not my roommate. Eli's response was that he thought that I wouldn't understand. We got into an argument when I took offense. He threatened to fire me for "bad customer behavior" and walk with the $1,941 I had already paid him. He quickly changed his tune when I told him that it is not "bad customer behavior" for me, the homeowner and person who hired him, to tell him to seek my approval for changes to the project. The project was originally quoted at, $1,800 then within a week jumped to $4,000 and finally ended up costing over $4,500 with several jobs not being done that were a part of the $4,000 quote (window wasn't re-framed, floors and baseboards weren't installed) He told me multiple times that he was being nice and doing me a favor, by taking my job because it wasn't as big of a job as some of his others. After taking more than twice as long as originally estmated, ending way over budget, and him threatening to fire me and walk with my money he still had the audacity to ask me several times when I gave him his final payment to give him 5 stars! Oh, and btw, the job was completed more than 2 weeks ago and he still hasn't provided the paperwork for me to legally sign off on the job being completed to my satisfaction. Overall, I am happy with the end result of the work that got completed but I think that he over charged me. Eli was generally sweet natured and I don't have any hard feelings toward him. However, I will not be hiring him again nor would I recommend him until he gets control of his time management and learns how to communicate proactively and professionally.
