This was the first time I had used their services. I had called a lot of companies for quotes and I chose this company because Davis had a really good personality and the research f their product I found was good and they were highly rated on the List. I bought the products and they installed them. One time, the cleaning up was not to good and I called them and someone came out right away. A few months ago there was a technical adjustment that needed to be made and the responded quickly and efficiently. I have no complaints at all.
Description of Work: The sold me a furnace, earthquake valve, duct cleaning, a thermostat and a media filter system.

I noticed that the house felt cold and realized that our house heat (gas furnace/forced air) was not working. I could hear the furnace blower running, but there was no heat. On inspecting the furnace, I could see that there was a pilot light, but the burners would not ignite. I called Ballard Natural Gas and a service person was able to come on the afternoon of that same day. Allen was professional, courteous, and informative, explaining what he was checking for as he diagnosed the problem, installed the replacement part, and then checked that the furnace was working properly. I received a 10% discount on the bill as an Angie's List customer. I was very pleased with the promptness and quality of service, and have no reservations about recommending this company to others.
Description of Work: Diagnosed reason furnace burners were failing to light. Replaced smart valve pilot assembly and cleaned pilot orifice.

The work went well and it took them a couple of hours. We have a two story home with many registers and returns. Mathew was our technician and was a very nice guy and pleasant to have in the house.
Description of Work: I originally called them to help with my dryer vent. They were not able to do this because of its location and suggested a handyman do the work. They cleaned the ductwork, registers, returns, flowers and furnace walls. Since the ductwork had not been cleaned in many years, there was a lot of buildup and I am sure we are all breathing much better. I was disappointed they were not able to do the dryer problem.

A great experience from day one. Taylor Morrison, the rep, visited us the same day we called for a quote. He performed a thorough inspection and information gathering process to help us choose the right system. He was very professional and answered all of our questions. The installation team of Rodrigo and Angel were great. Very respectful of our house and detail oriented. Very accommodating during the installation of the lines and units. They were happy to route the piping just like I wanted it. They started at 8:OOAM and stayed until 9:00PM, until the job was done. Cleanup was great , the garage was cleaner then when they got there! We received a visit the next day by the service team who did the final installation and calibration of the equipment. Very helpful in answering all of my nitpicky technical questions. A breaker on the Trane air handler unit was broken so they just replaced the whole heating unit instead of trying to fix it. No issues. Taylor did a final meeting the following day and walked us through the operation of the unit, how to efficiently operate a heat pump system, how to set the thermostat, etc. He even had all the paperwork available and completed for the Trane rebate and PSE energy credit. We would strongly recommend them, great service and one of the lowest price points. What a deal. Peter and Robin Struyvenberg.
Description of Work: Company removed our sorry old electric furnace and installed a new Trane Heat Pump and Air Handler. System was tested and cleanup was performed. Pricing was one of the lowest we found. Free 10 Year parts and labor warranty plus, 1st year service - many of the companies we researched, charged extra for this.

Luckily we had already started the process with the utility company to hook our house up with gas (for free!). Only 3 days after we selected BNGS to install our new furnace they were on site the day the utility company installed the gas line to remove the old furnace and duct work. The next day they started installing all the gas piping and measuring for new ducts. The following day the ducts and furnace were installed, and by the 3rd day(Friday) we had heat (just in time for the freak Spring snowfall). On the following Monday evening Neil and his technician and installer came to inspect the work and make sure it met my satisfaction. There were a few very small changes they needed to make (move the pvc vent pipe to allow for future door opening, raise one duct higher into a joist bay, connect a bathroom heat vent, and install cold air return vent cover and all new floor vent grates). All of these changes were done the next day. Overall they did a great job. Vern, the installer, showed up promptly at 8:30 each morning. He did very good work and cleaned up each day. It was no problem having their installers in our home when we weren't there. Extremely trustworthy and hard working. Even our dog loved them.
Description of Work: We received bids from the "big 4" to replace our old oil furnace, install new gas piping to new high efficiency gas furnace, future gas stove, dryer, water heater, and bbq, install new heat vents in two bedrooms, living room, and kitchen, install new cold air return, new thermostat, and all new ductwork. I called Ballard to ask a few questions about their bid. Neil, the sales mgr, looked over our bid and thought it looked off. The original salesman who provided the estimate left BNGS for another company so Neil stepped in to handle it. Knowing we wanted to make a decision asap Neil came over that evening (6:30) with a technician to go over exactly what we wanted and give us a new bid on the spot. The next day we chose Ballard because the bid was extremely detailed and left no gray area on what they would do. It wasn't the cheapest bid we received, but covered everything we wanted and based on Neil's willingness to come over 30 minutes after speaking with him on the phone reassured me of the service we'd receive from BNGS.

The serviceman was prompt and professional. Because of other basement work that was done, the furnace was particularly dirty, so the serviceperson brought in a vacuum from his truck. In addition, he recommended getting our ducts cleaned (which we did not do at the time). My only concern was that for about 30 minutes of work, $150 seemed expensive.

Tyler Linde came within two days of my initial call. He explained in detail four options for furnaces. He measured all rooms to calculate size of furnace required. He gave me a solid bid at that point. The furnace was installed within a week. The installer was knowledgeable and courteous. He took away the old furnace and cleaned up meticulously. He then gave me a brief lesson on how the thermostat worked. Two days later Tyler returned to check out the installation, went over a check list with me, informed me in detail how to use the thermostat. Everyone I dealt with at BNG was very courteous and prompt.

Great experience. I think I called on a Wednesday and got the appointment for Friday morning. Matt arrived on time and did a good job explaining the process for the duct cleaning. All seemed very efficient and house was kept clean. Scott arrived within 20 minutes of Matt finishing. Again, very efficient service. Scott was looking into a possible flame roll out, and I was pleased to learn the igniter was just out of place. The igniter was close to burning out and Scott replaced it (saving the hassle and $89 service fee later on). All work was done within a four-hour window.
Description of Work: Matt cleaned all ductwork/registers/return, etc. and replaced the filter on the furnace. Scott serviced the furnace and replaced the igniter, which was showing significant wear. Cost includes purchase of a box of filters ($92).

We did not actually have Ballard Natural Gas Services do any work on our system but we did have them out to do an estimate. I called for an estimate and because of the size of the job they had to come out and take a look. Although they were not able to do the work for us they went above and beyond to help us find someone who would be able to help. They were very friendly and professional. I would highly recommend Ballard Natural Gas Services to anyone looking for their services.

Very, very well. The customer service representative, John Mott, was patient, very thorough, informative, and thoughtful. Tech came promptly but could not hear the trouble sound; advised me to phone in when sound returns and let phone send sound to their system. I did so over the weekend. The dispatcher returned my call promptly, then I spoke to the tech who said he was ordering the inducer, a large fan part of the system which, it was clear to both of us when he was here, was NOT the problem, since the sound occurred when the inducer was not running. So I held the phone to the sound source, which appears to be the circulator pump, and he suggested I call a different service company because Ballard "specializes in forced air systems." If so why did they come out the first time knowing this was out of their expertise?? Estimated cost was $97.

BALLARD NATURAL GAS SERVICE IS TERRIBLY SORRY THAT THE MEMBER WAS NOT ABLE TO GET COMPLETE SERVICE FROM US. INITIALLY, UPON THE SERVICEMAN'S ARRIVAL THE NOISE COULD NOT BE HEARD AND SO WE APPROPRIATELY CHARGED OUR DIAGNOSTIC FEE. LATER IN THE WEEKEND THE NOISE RETURNED AND THE CUSTOMER MADE AN EXCELLENT RECORDING OF IT. UNFORTUNATELY, WE HAD INCORRECT INFORMATION AS TO WHICH PART WAS MAKING THE NOISE, AND PREPARED TO REPLACE THE PART UNDER A PARTS ONLY WARRANTY. AFTER ANOTHER SERVICE TRIP TO THE MEMBER'S HOME THE TECHNICIAN DISCOVERED THE PROBLEM TO BE THE CIRCULATION PUMP ON A FAIRLY COMPLICATED HYDRONIC INSTALLATION. ALTHOUGH OUR COMPANY DOES INSTALL AND SERVICE THESE SYSTEMS, IN THIS PARTICULAR CASE THE TECHNICIAN DETERMINED THAT WE SHOULD NOT ATTEMPT THIS REPAIR ON THIS SYSTEM DUE TO SOME ORIGINAL INSTALLATION ISSUES THAT THE TECH FELT MIGHT BE BEYOND OUR EXPERTISE. BNGS ACCEPTS THAT OUR TECHNICIAN SHOULD HAVE CAUGHT THIS LAST FACT ON THE FIRST VISIT. WE CERTAINLY WOULD NEVER KNOWINGLY BEGIN A RELATIONSHIP WITH A CUSTOMER WHERE WE WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO OFFER FULL SERVICE ON THEIR SYSTEM. LASTLY, WE SHOULD HAVE MADE AN IMMEDIATE REFUND TO THE MEMBER AFTER DISCOVERING THAT WE COULDN'T SERVICE HIS EQUIPMENT. WE HAVE SINCE DONE SO AND HAVE PUT INTO PLACE PROCEDURES TO HELP ENSURE THAT WE ARE ABLE TO BE MORE PROACTIVE IN SIMILAR MATTERS.

The sales rep was professional, helpful, and very courteous. The installer arrived on time (8 a.m.) and worked very hard to make sure that the furnace was installed that day and that some ductwork was in place so that we had heat for the first time in over a month that night! He returned the next day, finished installing all the ductwork, and put in the gas line to the fireplace. He cleaned up thoroughly afterwards. The gas logs hadn't arrived in time to be installed, but the sales rep returned with them in a couple of days. He checked to see that everything was done to our satisfaction. We thought the gas in the fireplace was "too noisy," so he sent a technician out to make the adjustment. The next day there was no gas to the fireplace, so we called Ballard and within an hour, another tech arrived and fixed it perfectly. The entire experience was excellent and we would recommend Ballard Natural Gas Co. to anyone needing extensive work or just a small job.
Description of Work: Ballard Natural Gas installed a new gas furnace to replace the old 1923 octopus furnace in our basement. Because the flue that vented the old furnace collapsed, we were "red-tagged" by the Puget Sound Energy and had no heat. The sales rep from Ballard came a day after we called to schedule an appointment, thoroughly assessed the situation, and gave us an estimate within 24 hours. Since the old ducts were wrapped in asbestos, we had to have asbestos abatement performed before the furnace could be installed, but Ballard scheduled us as soon as that work was done. Ballard agreed to remove the old furnace and ductwork at no charge, but the asbestos removal company did that. We had a new, 93% efficient furnace installed, along with new ductwork. We also had a gas line run to our fireplace and gas logs installed.

I scheduled an appointment to get an esitmate. I was home and got a call 30 minutes after the appointment saying he had forgotten his cell and went back to the office, could he come now? It would have made me late for work, so I rescheduled for the following tuesday. 30 minutes after the scheduled appointment I called, and was told the person had the wrong address, and someone would be there asap. An hour later I called back and was told someone had been to the house. When I told them no, I was there and no one had been there, I was put on hold. Another person got on and said they had come on Monday, and no one would be coming today. They also said they could refer me to another company. I responded by saying "I guess you don't want my business?" "No" was the response.

THIS ACCOUNT FROM THE CUSTOMER IS TOTALLY FALSE. WE VALUE EVERY LEAD BECAUSE IT IS A POTENTIAL SALE. THE MEMBER STOOD US UP TWICE AND SHE WAS THE ONE WHO CALLED 30 MINUTES TO AN HOUR AFTER THE APPOINTMENT. SINCE WE MADE TIME FOR HER TWICE AND SHE WANTED A THIRD APPOINTMENT WE HAD TO REFER HER TO ANOTHER COMPANY BECAUSE SHE WAS TAKING TIME THAT OTHER POTENTIAL CUSTOMERS COULD HAVE USED OR NEEDED.

This was a second opinion, after another technician told me I had a gas leak and disabled my furnace. Sean came out two days after my first experience. He performed an inspection, and assured me there was nothing wrong with my furnace. He was very knowledgeable about furnaces and common problems for each brand. He got my furnace running again very quickly, and I signed up for a future tune-up.
Description of Work: Sean checked for a potential gas leak in my furnace, looked at the air filter, and tested the air throughout my house for carbon monoxide. I also signed up for their furnace maintenance program (including a future tune-up). Because I signed up, he waived the fee for the inspection, and only charged me for the service call.

Both the furnace and the fireplace are working well, and overall I am pleased with the service. The service person took a few minutes to clear a plugged drain line on the furnace. They also quickly diagnosed that that fireplace problem was due to a faulty wall switch, not a problem with the pilot. In general, I would have preferred the service person to communicate with a little more tact. Also, I should have asked how much it would cost to replace the switch in advance of the work. $55 seemed expensive on top of the $45 to clean the pilot (which I guess it didn't need).

THANK YOU FOR THE FEEDBACK. OUR REPAIR RATES ARE RIGHT IN LINE WITH LARGER CONTRACTORS. THE PILOT NEEDED TO BE CLEANED TO DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM OF THE WALL SWITCH BECAUSE THE TECHNICIAN BYPASSED THE WALL SWITCH TO MAKE THE FIREPLACE WORK AFTER CLEANING THE PILOT. THE FACT THAT THE PRICE WAS NOT QUOTED FOR REPAIR IS NOT RELEVANT BECAUSE WE FIXED THE PROBLEM. THAT COST FOR THE REPAIR COVERS OUR TECHNICIANS LICENSES, OUR INSURANCE AND A TWO YEAR PART GUARANTEE AS WELL AS THE EXPERTISE TO REPAIR THE PROBLEM. I THINK IT IS UNFAIR TO GIVE US A POOR GRADE CONSIDERING THAT YOU SAID YOU WOULD HIRE US AGAIN.

OUR DIAGNOSTIC HOURLY RATE IS $200.00 PER HOUR, SO A 1/2 AN HOUR WOULD BE $100.00. MY SERVICE MANAGER AND I HAD AN EXTENSIVE TALK WITH HER ABOUT IT AND REFUNDED THE MONEY BECAUSE OUR TECHNICIAN WAS LATE, NOT BECAUSE THE CHARGE WAS WRONG. WE ARE AN HONORABLE COMPANY AND VALUE OUR CUSTOMERS.

When reinstalling one radiator, a large connecting bolt was broken. My guess is, this was because the pipes weren't aligned at the proper angle when they tried to connect them. It took almost a week to figure out why my heat wasn't on. They were doing this work with nobody home, and they just left when they broke the connector. Another week went by before they returned, only to break another. Weeks went by before they finally got it correct. Then when they were done, the other radiator didn't heat up because an incorrect grade of piping was used (these are the words of other heating companies who came after, not mine). So after all that, they refused to come out and fix the one that is not working. Since their "boiler expert" tried lighting my pilot with a blow torch and stick, and also needed to borrow tools from my plumber while he was on the job, I guess having them stop was a good idea. These guys might be good at forced air, but if you have a boiler... Run!
Description of Work: I had two separate things done by this company. First they installed a gas insert into my fireplace. That works well. Second, they reinstalled two radiators that I had removed to sand blast a repaint. That is where the trouble started.

From the start, I was impressed. The BNGS sales rep., Taylor, was professional, spent considerable time addressing questions, made some insightful recommendations, and took the time to perform a load calc. I received three bids from other local, reputable HVAC dealers also selling top brands. BNGS pricing was highly competitive. The installation was performed by Jason, who put in a long day, did quality work, was professional, and left a clean job site. Post-installation, Taylor did a walk through and took great care to make sure I was satisfied with the process, and that I understood how to operate new equipment. BNGS personnel arrived on-time as scheduled for every visit, set proper expectations, and were professional and well-trained. Very minor issue: Requested the load calc for my records three times, and have yet to receive it from Taylor (Neil, the GM, reads these posts so I suspect I will get it now). I would recommend BNGS to friends and family without hesitation.
Description of Work: Had a new gas line installed to stove, and existing furnace replaced with Trane XV80 in September. Scope of work included cutting-up and removing large existing furnace (no small task given that installed heat exchanger was about 600 lbs.), running new line to kitchen, minor custom ductwork, chimney liner, and install new thermostat.

We called the company for an estimate to replace our old furnace which was not operating properly and in need of expensive repairs. Mr. Neil Kappen came and looked at the old furnace and gave us an estimate for three replacement options along with several optional service. After getting two more bids from other companies we chose one of the options that Mr. Kappen had offered. He set up an installation date. The technician arrived at the appointed time with the new furnace and removed the old furnace and installed the new one. He showed us how to use the thermostat and set it up for us. Mr. Kappen came by a few days later to check everything and be sure that we knew how to use the thermostat properly.
