Besides having our house flooded with the smell of gas, it went very well.
Description of Work: Our water heater developed a gas leak. It was only 2 years old and installed by Ballard Gas. They diagnosed it, got the part and only charged me for the part. They also fixed the venting problem the hot water heater had (it would blow out every time we had any wind). We were very satisfied with the service we got.

After two appointments postponed by snow and icy roads the installer came to give me an estimate on the cost, which was higher than I expected, but what do I know about running gas lines? He set up an install date on the spot and gave me a three-hour arrival window. He showed up exactly at the start of the window, did the job in under two hours like he said he would, didn't break anything, didn't track dirt all over my house, and didn't even charge me $35 for the extra flex hose he had to install.
Description of Work: I hired them to run gas from my basement to my kitchen for a new gas range and hook up the range.

I chose them because Taylor who came out was the only one who took the time to actually plug in the info by the size of the room, the insulation and the size of the house to find out what size furnace I needed. He determined it was 60,000 BTUs and everyone else just wrote down 80,000. He took the time to make sure it was right.

Exceptionally professional and efficient service person. The cost was no surprise, as they quote the price to you when you order the service. I asked about insulating ducts, and he recommended I call an insulation company who could do it more cheaply.

We also talked to them about going with a tank-less water heater, but we have a few years left on our water heater tank. They were very efficient and on time. They were good on calling back and setting up appointments. I would use them again.

Great experience every step. Over the phone I received a very clear explanation of the scope and fee for the inspection/service. On the day of the appointment they called ahead to ask if they could arrive early. The service technician arrived shortly thereafter. The service technician was very friendly, professional, courteous and thorough in his answers to my questions. He showed me the defective pressure switch, demonstrated how it was defective, and verified the cost for my approval before replacing it. He explained how to remove panel(s) and replace the filter quarterly. Their fee for the service and inspection was $139, as quoted by the company. The part cost about $200. and that was my choice to have them install the part.
Description of Work: They performed a comprehensive annual service/inspection of my 14 year old gas furnace and replaced the faulty pressure switch.

Alan had a window of 2-5pm. He came at 5. Was very professional and did a thorough job of trying to locate the slow leak. Initially we couldn't find it and he tried several things to locate it but none of these seemed like the cause. He clearly did not want to attribute the cause to something questionable like the pump until he was sure. He also said that if we couldn't find it he recommended I continue to watch the furnace for some time after he left to try to pinpoint it as he did not want to have to charge me over the 89$/20 minutes of diagnostic time waiting for the leak to appear. While he was putting the furnace back together the leak appeared. He made the diagnosis but didn't have the part and it was too late to buy it, so he returned 3 days later and now it's fixed. I think the problem was from a faulty seal on the induction motor installed by them about a year ago so I was just charged the diagnostic fee.

Our general contractor was asking us to go with a different company with which he had worked together with before. However, we simply were impressed with the time that Ballard Natural Gas spent with us, and we decided to go with them. It turned out to be one of the good decisions that we made during the remodel as we ended up firing the old contractor for other reasons. We have called Ballard Gas to tape up parts of the duct work, perform cleaning, balance out some of the heating in various rooms, and in one case when we thought we smelled gas. They have been great with their service calls, and for any cleaning we have done, we will continue to use them.
Description of Work: We remodeled our 2-story house, which previously had electric baseboard heaters. We switched to natural gas, and at the same time, we had Ballard Natural Gas install a new gas furnace as well as a new gas water heater (the small continuous hot water kind, not the tank.) The hard part for them was that they had to install everything while the downstairs was being worked on but plan it out before the upstairs was completed. So they relied on us to describe how the upstairs would turn out.

Overall great experience. Tyler Linde - the sales rep that I had - was awesome! From day one he was always professional and on time. He returned all my phone calls promptly. And equally important, he is completely knowledgeable about the products that Ballard Natural Gas sells and answered my many questions. He used to do installations himself, so he's not just some slick sales guy. Tyler provided estimates on about four different Trane furnaces and gave them to me to look over in my own time. There was absolutely no pressure to buy, which I greatly appreciated and one of the reasons I gave him my business. Both of the install guys, Nick and Jeff, were also great. They knew their stuff and the installation went smoothly. They cleaned up and things were tidy when they left. Tyler was back after the installation to show us how to use the programmable thermostat and verify everything was done to spec. There was one issue where an outlet wire was left loose, but it was a minor fix that he did himself in less than 5 minutes. I received a 3% discount for paying cash and there were rebates on the furnace totaling $700 (so the total was about $4200 after rebates). Overall it was expensive - but you definitely get what you pay for. I've been very happy with this purchase experience and LOVE my new furnace. It is a lot quieter and far more energy efficient than my old one. So I give straight A's to Ballard Natural Gas, much thanks to Tyler!

And equally important, he is completely knowledgeable about the products that Ballard Natural Gas sells and answered my many questions. He used to do installations himself, so he's not just some slick sales guy. Tyler provided an estimate on their recommended Rinnai tank, and gave it to me to look over in my own time. There was absolutely no pressure to buy, which I greatly appreciated and one of the reasons I gave him my business. Both of the install guys, Nick and Jeff, were also great. They knew their stuff, the installation went smoothly, they cleaned up and things were tidy when they left. They also honored my request to leave behind the old copper plumbing lines that were removed when the tank came out. Thanks, guys. Tyler was back after the installation to verify everything was done to spec. There was one issue where an outlet wire was left loose, but it was a minor fix that he did himself in less than 5 minutes. I received a 3% discount for paying cash and there was a $150 rebate on the tank, the total was about $2833 after rebates. Overall it was way more expensive than getting a new traditional tank, but I've been very happy with this purchase experience. I love that the Rinnai fits on an exterior wall and is out of the way. There is more space in my basement without the hulking water heater there any more. And I can fill a bathtub now and not run out of hot water-something my old tank couldn't handle. It does take slightly longer for hot water to reach my bathroom now because the tank is further away and on demand doesn't store up hot water -but it is not egregious. On the flip side, I look forward to the savings on my gas bill since there's not a boatload of water to constantly keep warm. Anyhoo, once again I give straight A's to Ballard Natural Gas. Many thanks to Tyler-definitely request him when you call!

We smelled gas on a Saturday and called the energy company's 24 hour line. Their sensor detected a leak in a valve in the furnace which required them to disconnect the gas to the furnace. I got on Angie's list and pulled up 2 or 3 companies to call Monday morning (it wasn't cold enough to warrant a weekend service call) and started calling shortly after 7 AM Monday morning. Ballard was not the first place I called, but only because they didn't open until 8. I called at 8, told them what the gas company guy said to tell them (specifics about valve I would need). I was given a window of time for that afternoon. I waited awhile after the window time before calling, since it was late in the day, but finally called to be sure someone was calling. As expected he was running late and came a short time later. He did all the testing to verify the problem and replaced the valve. I need to have my ducts cleaned and the furnaced tuned up, and I plan to call Ballard for both. Too bad for the company that advertised that they opened at 7 AM. I left them a voice mail at 7:15 AM and still haven't heard from them (it's been over a week).

Excellent I couldn't be more pleased. I chose BNGS from Angie's list because of it's high ratings and proximity to my home. They proudly reference their Angie's list rating on their own website, and on their phone messaging. That was a great sign. They were able to schedule for the next day (this was not an emergency), during a very busy season. Allen showed up right in the middle of the 3 hour appointment window provided. He promptly diagnosed the issue (failing electronic igniter) and told me what it would cost to replace. The right part was in his truck. He was in and out of the house in less then 20 minutes. And then there was heat -- it's not that cold out yet, so I didn't really notice how cold it was until the heat came on. Allen was polite, friendly and efficient, and there's heat.

We made an appointment to have a salesperson come to the house. They called an hour and a half before the appointment and canceled. They did not tell us why, but could not reschedule for over a week. Even though they had done work for us before, they had our address wrong. I guess they have so much business, they don't care if people have taken time off work to talk to a salesperson, and they don't care much about repeat business either.

My original request was for an annual maintenance checkup on a gas furnace and gas leak repair on a house I just purchased. I got a call 10 mins before his arrival and he arrived at the expected time. While chatting, I asked him for a quote to install an earthquake valve shutoff. He gave me a quote (500.00) and said he could install it right then. Since my gas needed to be shut off, I asked him to service the gas heater in my rental apartment as well. He asked to check with the office to make sure he had time, he did and proceeded with all work. During the work he was professional, courteous and efficient. Since these appliances are new to me, I asked him many questions on pilot light/ignition setups to which he answered well. He also have me a hand-on tutorial on the operation of the earthquake shutoff valve. He made sure all pilots lights were on (2 gas water heaters) before he left. The price of each service by itself was reasonable priced, a la carte. The total addup for this call ended up at 938.00 for 2.5 hours of work. Given the earthquake valve, based on web searches, was around 350.00 (due to my pipe size) and that was the only big hard cost, they made a good hourly wage off me in one service call. Would I use them again ? of course. I would plan my work a little better ahead of time to get a better "package" price on more then one service.

I picked the top three companies on Angie's list and requested quotes for replacing our old gas furnace and air conditioner. I met with Ballard Natural Gas last. After talking to the first two companies I was reconsidering whether I even wanted to go ahead. One of them did not do a "Manual J" load calculation, but did look around the house a little and provided a quote before he left. The other contractor collected the information for the Manual J load calculation and promised to send a bid in a few days, which we never received. I was not impressed with either of the first two guys. They didn't have good answers to my questions and were really dodgy about guaranteeing that we'd be able to properly cool the upstairs in our two story house. So after meeting with these two guys, it was a breath of fresh air to meet with Taylor from Ballard Natural Gas. Taylor was extremely knowledgeable about HVAC systems and provided a lot of information about why we were having problems with our old unit and how to solve these problems with a new unit. He patiently answered all of my questions, and then did the Manual J calculation during the same visit! He had an HP PDA with the Manual J software and was able to show me the load calculations shortly after taking room measurements. He then asked if I was OK for time and suggested that he go work in his car for 30 minutes to write up a proposal. He came back in 30 minutes later with pricing for several options. We decided on a Trane XV 95 furnace, Trane CleanEffects electrostatic air cleaner and a Trane XL16i heat pump. The pricing was very similar to the other vendor who provided a quote, but I felt much more confident that BNG would install the system properly. BNG was able to schedule the install within a few days. Their installers arrived on time. They were polite and professional, and completed the job in two days as planned. Their workmanship was excellent and they did a great job of cleaning up afterward. The service tech who brought the system online spent a lot of time fine tuning the setup and when he left the AC was running perfectly and our house was nice and cool. Taylor came by the next morning for a final walk through and made an additional adjustment to the fan speed based on talking to me about how we planned to use the system. Taylor explained how to use the fancy thermostat they installed as well as how to clean the electrostatic filters. He also had a thorough checklist to go through to make sure everything was done correctly. I couldn't be happier with our experience with BNG and I would enthusiastically recommend them to anyone needing HVAC work done.
Description of Work: Replaced our old furnace and air conditioner with a high efficiency furnace and heat pump.
