They arrived within that window of time. They worked quickly and replaced the broken cable and did a couple of adjustments. Our garage door is repaired and running better than it was before.

 + -1 moreMy home had a 20 year old uninsulated wood garage door and the loudest garage door opener ever known to man! Not only could it wake the dead but the whole house shook when the door opened. Jesse arrived promptly for the bid appointment, he was very pleasant to deal with, and his quote blew every other company out of the water. I got the exact door I wanted (a carriage-style door from Northwest Door) and an amazingly quiet opener for an excellent price. Jesse's install was flawless! The door looks fantastic and the garage now stays at a consistent temperature instead of fluctuating with the outside temp thanks to a properly insulated and installed door. The opener is so quiet that it came with a remote monitor which I keep in the bedroom. I would absolutely use Jesse again if I had issues with a garage door. He has been doing this forever and it shows.

 + -1 moreI came home from a quick trip to the grocery store to find my garage door would only open far enough to let a cat in and out! From inside I could see one of the torsion springs was broken. I jumped online to see if I could fix it myself and quickly found out I could be risking life and limb if I tried. Then I went to Angie's List and checked out the reviews. The first likely candidate was Better Built Door. I called and Jesse answered. He had just finished a job and was about to head home, but he agreed to come right over. He was true to his word and told me up front what he would charge. Jesse was very personable and we had a good conversation while he worked! Before he left he also lubed the noisy, squeaking door--which quieted it right down. Bottom line: It was only 2-1/2 hours from the time I discovered the broken spring until Jesse was finished and headed back down my driveway! Count me as a very satisfied customer!

Description of Work: A few days earlier my garage door opener on a little used 3d bay was acting up, going up slowly and sometimes reversing on its own. Jessie came out and lubricated everything up showed me where a problem could occur in the future with my type of opener and just charged me $20 for his gas and time spent.

 + -1 moreI have mixed feelings with these folks. The transparency on price and what is included is amazing. Wished others would post prices, and specs like they do on their website. Great communicate before the garage install. Not so great after payment is made. After the install I noticed my door closed really hard. Slammed opening and closing the doors. The previous opener did not do this. I am a little handy so I had to adjust each opener to open/close properly. Thought they would do that for me before he left. It was a Saturday and he needed to get to the next appointment. Secondly one of the openers had a warning light blinking 24/7. There was interference with something around. This was a new garage door opener?? I called Better Built to ask for help. They did not want to come by the house to check on it. After a couple of calls, I insisted they come and check it out. I felt the owner was just too busy and really did not want to help out. He didn't do anything except say the safety senors might be misaligned. Are you serious??? He left with the problem still occurring, light still blinking. Finally I gave up and unplugged the openers and what do you know the light stopped blinking. I had to self adjust the openers and self fix issues with the openers opening and closing properly.

 + -1 moreI called Better Built because one one-car garage door was incredibly noisy to open and close, and both garage doors often had trouble closing. Better Built arrived when promised. The rep knew his stuff and was very pleasant to work with. I was dreading an expensive diagnosis, but he knew right away that the problem could be solved by replacing the one spring (which I knew was bad) and three of the four and quot;rollersand quot; around which the cables turn on either end of the springs, then properly lubricate the track, cable rollers and the metal door wheels in the tracks. He made sure to explain the best brand of lubricant to use, where to spray it and how frequently, saying and quot;you won't need to call me back if you lubricate regularly.and quot; I especially appreciated that he took all of the metal pieces with him to be recycled, not trashed. All done in less than 30 minutes!
Description of Work: Replaced one garage door spring & both associated cable "rollers", one of two cable "rollers" on other spring, lubricated both doors properly and educated me on how to lubricate them myself in the future.

Description of Work: My current garage door openers (two doors; two openers) do not open the doors to the full height of the door opening. This is due to the limited distance from the door headers to the beam running across the width of the garage where the door opener (drive motor) needs to be mounted. The previous home owners lived with this, roughly 12 inches shy of the full height of the garage opening, because they drove small cars. My family has two SUVs. Of the four contractors I asked to provide options/solutions to fix the problem, three of them told me there was nothing I could do other than replace the existing chain driven opener with a Jackshaft/torsion bar. They were all relatively close on the cost; parts and labor ~$2,000. One of them told me I would need to replace the doors as well, for a total of $3,500 to solve the problem. After 5 to 10 minutes assessing the situation, Jesse said he could probably fix the problem for about $50, and get me nearly the full height of the door opening. He did mention that if I really wanted to part with my money, he could install the Jackshaft solution, and it would difinitely give me the full 7' opening. I gave him the go ahead to do the repair vs replacement work right then. After an hour of making adjustsments and replacing/lubing a few rollers and a sensor, I was able to pull my SUV into the garage for the first time since we have lived in the home (8 years). He was way off on his estimate, as it cost me $100. (insert smiley face here). This included the parts he replaced, and a new remote control opener. What a refreshing experience to come across a master craftman who is committed to honesty and excellence.

 + -1 moreI had a a great experience with Jesse of Better Built Doors. I wanted to replace two old garage door openers as one had just failed and both were over 20 years old. I emailed asking for a quote and Jesse recommended the Liftmaster 3280 opener. I checked-out the LIfemaster website, read many reviews, and decided I liked his recommendation. I also checked out Sears and Lowes and found that the pricing Jesse offered was reasonable and within line when you add the install price to the opener price from Sears. Given the high reviews here on Angie's List I decided to go with Jesse as he seemed to be highly reputable. We arranged an appointment for a Saturday morning. Jesse arrived on time and had both openers installed in a little over 2 hours. He didn't have the weather strip in his truck that was appropriate for my door, so he offered to come back the following Saturday morning and install it with no added charge for labor. The next weekend he arrived as we agreed and he got the weather strip installed very quickly, no issues. I love my new openers, they work great. The belt-drive is much smoother and quieter than my old chain drive. Jesse also installed a new keypad (which I received for free), he gave me instructions on how to setup HomeLink in my car (which worked without issue), and I also decided to buy an extra remote. Everything went great and I am very pleased with the installation.

 + -1 moreJess came out on time that he said. Took a look around and gave me his professional and honest opinion that my door is solid and just needs to be maintained a little. He tightened the bolts here and there, put a new bracket which was missing on one side and replaced the cable which started fraying. $95 for labor and $10 for cable. He didn't charge for the bracket.Now, the door is so much quieter, tuned great and I cannot be happier. Springs may die anytime. (He said none can predict how long the spring will last. If someone tells you so, that's a lie. That's why vendors do guarantee some years for springs.) When the time comes, I'll definitely call him again. Someone else on the Angie's List told me that all the parts are old so I need to replace Torsion Tube, bearings as well as cables, springs and need a new bracket. It came out close to $1,000, which was close to a new door price so I had to find another person for a second opinion. I'm glad I did. I guess I need to pay attention even to the vendors on Angie's List with star mark!
Description of Work: Called several companies to take a look at our existing wood garage doors to tell me whether I should service it or switch it to a new door. None wants to come out to give me a quote without a service call and Jesse (the owner) was happy to come out to take a look for me. So, I have no obligation and peace of mind to start.

If it were any smarter, it would start the coffee for me in the morning. When the truck pulled out of the driveway after the install, there was not a single piece of debris left behind. My dogs liked the installer so much that I think they would have left with him if I gave them a chance.

 + -1 moreI was totally satisfied through the whole experience with the service, quality, and knowledge of the person that did the work. He gave me valuable information concerning the life span of the current garage door on the house, and showed me exactly how it was originally installed incorrectly which will lead to having to replace it in the future. I had also ordered weather stripping to be replaced at the time of the opener install, but was told by Jesse that it was just going to tear again soon due to the incorrect install of the door. He would install it for me if I wanted, but advised me to save the money for when the new door is installed. I appreciated that he didn't just replace the weatherstripping and make the extra money for doing it when he knew it was not in my best interest!
Description of Work: I called to get an estimate to replace a garage door opener with installation and the price quoted was hundreds less than other places I had called for the same unit. I made an appointment for the next day and Jesse was on time and ready to get the job done. He did the install in just over an hour, and also did some extra service to the garage door to help preserve it's life before it needs to be replaced. When I have the garage door replaced, it will be this company to do it.

 + -1 moreI called yesterday, and Jesse even tried to talk me through the repair myself. I'm not comfortable working on torsion springs, so he said he'd come out sometime after 10:00 a.m. today. He got here around 10:30, fixed it quick, then gave me a lot of advice on installing the new garage door opener as well as some screws for the job. He didn't try to sell me any extra services. He saw the damage (I inflicted) at the top of my door and told me to not even think about having the panel replaced. Wait until the whole door needs replacing. That was a relief, since I really don't want to be throwing money at that type of repair. Then he charged me 1/2 of the estimate and told me to call him if I have any problems and he'll be glad to help.

 + -1 moreBBD was available soon after I made my initial call and met me at my home. BBD quickly repaired my door and made modest safety improvements so I don't put myself into such a position again. BBD also educated me on my door and its overall condition. In my attempt to replace the worn bottom weather seal, he told me that the required part was a custom order, got me the part, and led in installing it later that week.
Description of Work: I had caused the garage door become non-functional due to a detached cable on one side in an attempt to replace a worn weather seal on the door. Better Built Door (BBD) came out and reattached the cable, balanced the door, and led in replacing the worn weather seal.

After reading Angie's List, I saw a listing where one company had failed to show, so Better Built Door was called instead to take care of the problem. I called Better Built Door on Sunday expecting to have the door taken care of Monday, but Jesse could do it that SUNDAY afternoon with no extra charge. Jesse arrived as promised and competently and quickly had the garage door running again. I could not ask for better service.

 + -1 moreThe torsion spring on our garage door broke the evening of 2/2/2011. Since I'm not at all familiar with the mechanics of a garage door, I was unable to figure out how we could get our cars out the next morning to go to work. I checked garage door repair vendors on Angie's List, and the rave reviews for Better Built Door sounded promising. It stated 24 hour service, so I called hoping to simply schedule an appointment for the next morning. Jessie answered the phone around 9:00pm and said he could be to my house around 8:30 the next morning, but it all depended on traffic. The morning of 2/3/2011, he arrived right around 8:30. Jessie is very friendly, easy to talk to and professional. He replaced the broken spring and also replaced the second spring to make sure our garage door would be in good working order. The price was very reasonable, and he was done in about 45 minutes. I'm glad I made this call. Our garage door is working great again.
