+ -1 moreAwesome experience! A service appointment was scheduled right away and Ricardo showed up right on time. He was professional. efficient and very thorough. Along with replacing the torsion springs on the garage door, he also lubricated the roller bearings and tightened up the hinges. This service was for my parents garage door and I have also used them previously for my garage door. I highly recommend this company.

+ -1 moreThey were really good. Inside the door of the garage there was a little button on the wall to open the door. One of the switches went bad and they came out immediately, no questions asked, and verified it wasn't working and popped on a new switch. No questions, no problems. It took them about 15 minutes. There were no hassles. It was really done well.
Description of Work: One of the switches to open the door was faulty, a manufacturer default. I called them and they came out and swapped it out free of charge.

Better Built Door was not able to come out on the same day, but offered to come out the next day. If we weren't in a pinch, we would have gone with this company, but we needed someone to come out right away.
Description of Work: We did not hire this company to do the work, but the person I spoke to was helpful and politely answered all my questions. He was also willing to come out the next day, and the price he quoted was not the cheapest, but it was very reasonable.

I had called Jesse two years ago regarding a problem with my garage transmitter, At that time, he advised me to replace the fluorescent bulbs which may have been interfering with the signal. I replaced the bulbs and the problem was solved without a service call or charge. This time a torsion spring failed and he replaced both springs quickly and competently for a fair price.

+ -1 moreAnswered phone when I called and immediately scheduled me for later that week. Was able to tell me upfront how much it would cost. Showed up a little late but it was fine as I called and he explained he was on his way, his last appt taking longer then expected. Was very friendly, quick with replacement, and oiled all the pulleys. Explained the various coloring differences of the coils/springs and he checked the rest of our coils/springs on our other garage doors to ensure they were the right color (the ones that broke were the wrong color and were mismatched which explained all the previous problems we had with the door prior to the breakage). I would recommend and will use them next time.

He worked methodically and quickly to complete the work both openers in less than two hours. I would hire him again and also recommed him to any one in need of any garage door related work.
Description of Work: Replaced old garage door openers with brand new Liftmaster ones ( two ). All work done sup[er afst in less than two hours. My doors are 8 ft doors and needed additional material. Yet Jessee took care of that with ease. Quality work and good price compared to competitors.

+ -1 moreI had used Better Built Doors before but didn't remember the exact service they provided. I looked them up on Angies List and found they were highly rated. I called them and Jesse set a time and date to give me an estimate on repair or replacement. I had decided to replace the door but wanted someone to confirm that it was the best decision. Without me leading him he said that I should replace the door. He gave me an estimate and recommended the type of doors I should buy. My research confirmed that he was correct in his advice. We agreed that he would do the job on October 4th, 2013. The job was completed by 11:30 am on October 4th at the agreed price. I recommend Better Built doors completely. Completely satisfied with the installation of my new doors.

+ -1 moreWhen your garage door greets you with a scary spring-y noise in the morning, you want it fixed quickly. The first place I called (from Angie's list as well) was booked out and recommended Jesse, noting that he was the only person they referred to. I checked out his company on Angie's list, and it looked good--the few negative reviews were clearly the result of miscommunication, which takes two. Jess answered my call himself, and said he would try to combine getting to me between two other stops, and gave me a two-hour window around midday. I was juggling with a client call, and let him know. He showed up later than we had both hoped, but still well within the window of time (and the client cancelled the call, so no problem there). He located the problem right away, said it was a $15 part, plus his labor, which was usually $80, but he would knock it off to $40, for a total of $55. He popped in a new cable in less than five minutes (thought he had to do it twice because he needed an extra-long cable). While I was writing the check, he sprayed lubricant on both doors, a nice extra. Overall, a pleasant experience and fun to chat with.

+ -1 moreThe overall experience was okay, but not at the level I expected from someone with such high recent overall ratings on Angie's List. The provider was supposed to arrive today between 11am and 1pm. At 1pm, I called to see where he was and was told he was a few minutes out. I understand that things come up, but would have appreciated a call when he realized he wasn't going to make it to my home within the window of time we'd arranged. It turned out that we had copious spider webs interferring with the sensors. The opener worked fine once I brushed these away while the provider was at my home. He did a great job of identifying the problem and how to fix it. I also asked him about getting a new remote for my other garage door opener. He told me that it was very old and it would make more sense to replace the opener when it failed. This made a lot of sense to me. Then he told me that he'd take 50 percent off his normal trip charge, or $40. I wouldn't have had a problem paying him a trip charge, but wasn't told that there would be one when I made the appointment with the provider. I took another look at their web site and didn't see a normal $80 trip charge displayed. I have had a number of providers out to my home to look at things, provide estimates, and in a number of cases, perform the work. This is the first time I've been assessed a trip charge that I wasn't told about in advance.
Description of Work: I contacted the provider to look at my garage door opener that hadn't been functioning properly. I wanted to know what the problem was and the cost to repair/replace the opener.

+ -1 moreOur garage door would not open electronically and it was so heavy it was difficult to open manually. We contacted Jesse. We were surprised but happy in this day of lacking customer service that Jesse not only made 1 but 2 phone calls to recommend a couple of problem(s) that could be fixed by us at no cost. When it was determined the fix was beyond our capability the appointment was made. He arrived on time, was very knowledgeable, made the repair and charged what was quoted. We looked at his website in the event we should need a new opener, so when he recommended a product that was not the most expensive he had (i.e. we weren't and quot;upsoldand quot;) we were very appreciative. He also told us we could buy now but with the new spring he just installed the door should work fine for a couple more years. Consequently, in a year or so we will buy garage door opener and have it installed by Better Built Door.

+ -1 moreWe got written up for not having proper negative resistance on the garage door. I called the company and he got very argumentative. He checked the door and just left, he said everything was fine. They are very unprofessional. I explained to them what the inspector said and he didn't listen to what the problem was. I would not recommend someone like that. When he gets angry he just tries to intimidate. He may have done it correctly, but this is what an inspector told us and we are trying to sell our home.

+ -1 moreOn the telephone owner Jesse told us what we probably would need and what it would cost. Jesse came out as scheduled with the opener, but upon assessment, it appeared that he would have to order an extra part not included with the opener we needed and it would cost about 30.00 more than the original quote. We said to go ahead and do whatever was needed. When he returned a few days later -promptly - he told us that he had called the opener company and discussed the problem with them. They had come up with a fix which did not require the extra part, so it would not cost us more money after all. He proceeded to install the equipment, made sure we knew how everything worked and indicated his availability for any further help /questions. Jesse did not have to call the company (we had not protested the higher price) and after he did, he didn't really have to tell us about it. We wouldn't have known the difference. But this is an honest guy. He's also upfront, competent (the opener works great) and efficient. Bonus: he's also jovial and easy to deal with. We recommend him without reservation.

+ -1 moreI had a mixed experience. The price for the service was very good as was most of the work. He seemed to know his stuff and did respond to problems we had but a few things would keep me from coming back. We had several problems with one garage door which kept it from working. I left several messages for him explaining the problem. I called again the next morning and he answered and quot;What can I do for you ?and quot; I find it hard to believe he hadn't heard my my messages/emails. It took several days for him to return and fix it but the next day broke again. It was a few days before he could fit us into his schedule. Fixing our door which he'd just installed didn't seem high on his priority list. He came out a third time and was at least a little nicer. This time the opener worked for a few days and then broke again. I didn't call again but was able to get it working myself. It appeared the unit was just never attached according to the instructions. He left trash with nails in a bag of cloths in our garage and some sharp bolts on the floor where they could have punctured tires. He missed one appointment without calling before (he was late to a 2 hr window). He opened a brand new extension cord I'd purchased and was planning to return without asking and some of the time, I found him to be rather rude. I would call someone else next time.

Description of Work: Very happy with my overall experience so far. Jesse was prompt in replying to my request for a bid. He showed up exactly when he said he would, quickly evaluated our doors, and suggested that we repair them rather than replace them as I was planning. I figured this saved us about $4000 from what I expected to pay. I do property management for a fortune 50 company, so I know contractors, know systems, and know quotes, and was pleased with this overall experience. I have also completely personally renovated a home, including installing garage door openers, but wanted some professional expertise on this job, as I now have a family. Jesse recommended a certain garage door opener (chamberlain) and I had another in mind...I asked him to research and get back to me, and we both looked into it. We came to the conclusion that the opener he suggested was better, and that the product I originally looked at had some weaknesses. This was all "extra" work for him that was free. On the scheduled time, he again arrived exactly when scheduled and got right to work...I mean, right to work! The job took about 20 minutes longer than he planned, but he also did a lot of extra tuning and refinement of the system that was in place. He replaced 3 openers, and one spring in about 2 hours 45 minutes. He set everything up, asking for my input into how to program the three doors and openers, how I wanted the buttons on the walls, etc. He taught me some stuff about the doors and openers, and was very solid with his knowledge and skills. I called this company because the spring on one of my doors broke and the door literally collapsed right behind me...slamming to the ground. Jesse made me comfortable that it wouldn't happen again. This happened today...so I will let you know if the project quality lasts. He said he would be back if I had any tuning needed or issues, and I trust that he would if I needed him. Great company...great work...great integrity, highly recommend!

I contacted Jesse after reading good reviews on Angie's List and visiting his site. His pricing was better than a couple of other companies I contacted before. We set a date for the install a week and a half out. They showed up within the time frame they said they would and got right to work taking out the old openers and putting in the new ones, along with the safety sensors and an exterior keypad. He explained to me what I needed to know about the openers and answered my questions. The visit took less than an hour to do everything, and I'm happy with my purchase and installation.

+ -1 moreI was referred to Better Built Doors from my Real Estate agent so I gave them a call. Jesse is upfront on the costs involved and there were no surprises after the work was complete. Jesse arrived within the scheduled time frame and got right to work. installation only took a couple hours. After the work was completed, Jesse explained everything to me including warranties. He gave me some good pointers on the usage of the external key pad system as well. I had just purchased this home and did not realize that the house did not have garage door openers or the ability to open the garage doors form the outside of the house. Something I think alot of people take for granted now days. I was thankful to have the garage door openers installed. They work great and are extremely quiet which is always a plus. I would recommend Better Built Doors to others.
