Overall, we very satisfied with them. They came on time and did the work right. I have only used them one time and I would recommend them to others. They were very knowledgeable and cleaned up after themselves very well.
Description of Work: We had a couple of toilets replaced for water efficient ones with some plumbing modification that was needed to accommodate them. They placed a new water pressure regulator in the house because we have bad water pressure and a couple of corroded shut off valves in the toilets. The work took 7 hours and they charged me for the parts and labor.

First of all, they came on a Sunday. They have the ability to work unsupervised. They did a very good job and worked on schedule. They were optimistic and very honest with what we needed. Their price was average, but I would highly recommend them.
Description of Work: Beacon Plumbing had to repair the area where roots had broken the pipe of my sewer line. When they cleared the roots, they realized that the damage was more serious than what they expected. The project took them four days to complete.

He looked at exactly the problem that we wanted repaired. He was very good and hard working. He was honest and we appreciated that he got to his work and didnt try to make any extra money off of us. He was done in a reasonable amount of time as well.
Description of Work: They repaired a leak in the drain line that leads out toward the sewer from our house. It was by the control box toward the street but it was on our side of the box, so we had to pay for it instead of the city.

They were not honest from the start. They said they would have everything they needed to do the job on the truck and they didn't. They replaced the heater with one I didn't want and said they would guarantee their work. I'm not satisfied at all.

Our current "American Standard" toilet was not working or flushing correctly, so we did some research and decided to purchase a "Toto" toilet. Beacon Plumbing helped us get the best deal on this toilet and did an excellent job on the installation. They showed up on time and did the job quickly, without leaving a mess in my bathroom. Plus, they have returned to fix minor problems with the toilet at "no charge". We were so happy with the work they did, that we ordered another toilet for the guest bathroom. The good experience was the same with the second toilet installation. We now use Beacon Plumbing for all our plumbing needs.

Beacon provided a fast response, but the experience went down hill from there. I went with Beacon because it was the only name that I knew of and they were flat rate. I discussed the flat rate with the telephone dispatcher but the story was different once plumber arrived. It was $50 for the plumber to show up and tell me that he had to cut into the wall to find the leak (for the flat rate of $350, which would only cover the first 90 minutes of investigation). The plumber put 13 holes in the ceiling to try and discover the leak. (Note: Ive had other plumbers shocked with the photos that Ive posted to DIY plumbing forums). Once identifying a cracked waste and overflow assembly, he quoted me the flat rate of $970 to replace it. When I tried to understand basis for such a high estimate, he told me that he didnt know and that it wasnt negotiable. I asked him to leave and went with another plumber for the repair (which ended up costing $160).

I had Beacon replace a sewage extractor that had died. They were very quick to show up, and the price wasnt low, but not terrible. The only problem is that their plumbers are awful. They make such simple mistakes that I wind up fixing them, and Ive had no training as a plumber. After they installed it, and it didnt work, they started talking about how I needed to widen my pit to the tune of $9,000 bucks, or the sewage extractor wouldnt work right. After much calling, and thousands of dollars in them coming in and playing with it, they finally sent their one smart guy. He was worth his weight in gold. He showed me how to fix the extractor, how to position it correctly, and how to keep it running. If I could only remember his name, Id still use him, but I cant, and the rest of their plumbers show up and charge $600 for an hours worth of work. They pull out a book that apparently has prices for sewage extractors. What a ripoff!!

The line was to come in under the house about 25 feet. Access was through a crawlspace, inside house not hard to get to. Beacons said the area was tight and that they found dead rodents. Not surprised as we had put out poison a month earlier. I had a recommendation from the folks who sold me the stove, but he was too busy to call back. Estimate from the seller of the stove based upon similar jobs and their own recommended plumber was about $400 to do the job. The estimate that Beacons gave me was $2300! I was quite surprised. They are a large company. I balked at the price, but knew I had a short time frame. Their staff said no one would do it for less. I finally agreed and paid for the job. Later another plumber stated I was way over priced and dead rodents and tight quarters are what you usually find under a house. I double checked with two other firms and was told the same thing. A report was made to the attorney general s office.
Description of Work: I hired Beacon Plumbing to install a gas line to my new Wolf Stove in the kitchen. The line was to come in under the house about 25 feet. They left me with a gas leak that went 24 hours before it was fixed. I was forced to leave my garage open overnight and take a day off work. Price was 7x the recommended amount after checking with other outfits. A utility employee who finally came and looked at the leak was so surprised at the price that he immediately called a plumbing friend to see what they would have charged. The quote was the very highest at $500.00 for this type of job, crawl space or not. See below for rest of the story. I would not recommend Beacon Plumbing to anyone! They took advantage of a situation and then insinuated that no one else could do it for less. My mistake was in believing them.

Beacon scheduled an appointment within a four hour window, and called to notify us of their progress towards the appointment. We received a call letting us know the plumber was on his way about an hour before he arrived. He took a look at the problems we had and offered fixed-price estimates from a work book. He made a diagnosis, discussed his plan, let us ask questions, then offered an estimate. The repairs were very simple, didnt require many materials, and were completed without ordering special parts. The fixed estimates seemed rather pricey for the amount of time spent on the repairs, but the work done was correct and certainly a good long-term fix. After the job, the technician offered great advice for helping us take care of our aging (but new to us) home. He was very friendly and we were glad he helped us.
Description of Work: Repair obvious leak in waste line within easily accessible crawl space. Diagnose and repair leak under kitchen sink. This turned out to be another waste line problem, which we had been worried was a supply-line problem because of the amount of water damage.

This was a plumber from hell. Not only that he started the job in a rental property without the landlords approval but he damaged my property. He called me after he cost the damage and water was leaking in the lower unit. I didn t have choice to call another plumber if I didn t want the lower unit to be flooded even more than it was. He gave me estimate for $500, the final bill was $850. Before having another contractor to repair the ceiling, I had another plumber to look at the job, tell me what Beacon plumber did and how much it would have cost if their company did it. I was told that the Beacon plumber did not put any new part in the ceiling. He only corrected the loose pipe he cost with his snake. Estimate for that job was $260.00. I contacted Mr.Cahil, owner of the Beacon Plumbing. He called me back once and never again returned my call. I reported the company to Better Business Bureau and am taking Beacon Plumbing company to a Small Claim Court.
Description of Work: My tenant called the plumbing company with a plugged drain in the bathroom. The plumber arrived and started to use his snake to clear the drain. After some struggling, he managed to brake the pipe in the floor and water started to leak in the lower unit. He originally estimated that the job would cost $250. After water started to leak in the lower unit he gave me a call and wanted my approval and credit card # to continue the job. He told me that water is leaking in the lower unit and he will need to cut the ceiling there and see what went wrong. He estimated that that will cost about $500. At this point I had no choice but to give him my credit card number and have him continue with the plumbing job. After 3 hours he finished the job. My credit card was charged $850.00.

LATER, THO I HAD CALLED BEACON AS SOON AS THE PC GUY WAS THERE, THE TECHNICIAN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. NO ONE ELSE COULD COME OUT AS IT GOT DARK. ALL TENANTS ARE WITHOUT WATER SINCE 10 AM. AT 6PM, ANOTHER CREW CAME, GAVE ME A BILL FOR $922 AND REFUSED TO PROCEED UNLESS I PAID RIGHT THEN. THEY CHARGE BY TASK, SO THEY WOULD "REPAIR THE VALVE" AND CUT A 3X6 INCH HOLE AROUND THE VALVE. THEY THREW AWAY THE PIECE OF THE FLOOR AND THE 1/4 ROUND, SO NOW I HAVE TO REDO THE FLOOR ENTIRELY AS WELL. THEY DID NOT REPAIR THE VALVE, BUT REPACKED IT SO IT WOULD STILL BE OFF, JUST NOT LEAKING. I THOUGHT THEY WERE REPAIRING IT. THEY ALSO CHARGED ME A $50 SERVICE CHARGE TWICE, ONCE FOR EACH VISIT, THO THE FIRST GUY PROMISED THEY WOULDN'T. THIS 2ND VISIT TOOK 20 MINUTES PLUS THE TIME TO WRITE THE ESTIMATE. THEY HAVE SINCE REFUNDED ME $200, WHICH ISN'T ENOUGH. IT MERELY COVERS THE COST OF PEST CONTROL AND ONE SERVICE CHARGE. AND IT TOOK NEARLY THREE MONTHS FOR THEM TO CREDIT ME.
Description of Work: AN OLD SHUT OFF VALVE IN FLOOR BEGAN TO LEAK AFTER BEING SHUT TOO TIGHT. WATER WAS RUNNING (SLOWLY) DOWN THE WALL AND INTO THE CEILING IN THE APARTMENT BELOW. AT 10 AM, I SHUT OFF THE WATER TO THE HOUSE SO NO ONE IN ANY OF THE THREE APARTMENTS HAD WATER. IT'S A 1906 BUILDING. I ASKED TO SEND SOMEONE WHO COULD DEAL WITH OLD GALVANIZED PIPE. IT WAS A SATURDAY BEFORE CHRISTMAS AND MANY COMPANIES WERE NOT RESPONSIVE, SO I WAS GLAD TO MEET THEM AT 11 AM. I ASKED THE MORNING TECHNICIAN IF HE COULD "PACK" THE SHUTOFF VALVE OR EVEN EPOXY IT SHUT, SINCE IT WOULD AFFECT ONLY THE THIRD FLOOR COLD WATER. HE SAID BEACON DIDN'T "PACK" AN OLD FAUCET. HE CUT THE CEILING BELOW TO "RESEARCH." HE THEN MANDATED PEST CONTROL (COST$140) BECAUSE THERE WERE SOME ANCIENT RAT DROPPINGS. HANTA VIRUS! I HAD TO CUT OUT THE AREA OF THE CEILING FOR THE PEST CONTROL GUY, WHO SAID THAT WHILE UNPLEASANT, THERE WAS NOTHING DANGEROUS IN THESE OLD RAT DROPPINGS. HANTA'S FROM MICE. HE SWEPT & SPRAYED BLEACH A BIT. 2PM NOW.

Work was performed hastily. After replacing the "defective" part (which turned out not to be, although rust had clogged a valve), another leak was suddenly discovered in the boiler. The leak had not been there before the plumber arrived. Thence began a very high-pressure campaign to buy a new boiler, preferably right away, with the "carrot" of applying our current bill to the cost. Oh, and the current bill was sold to us as a "better than fair offer," which it was not. The actual work was completed very quickly, so that the per-hour rate would have been a better deal. The representative (Steve, I believe) also outright lied to us about boiler options, stating that electric boilers were not manufactured. They were also quite slow in coming out, stating a given time and then not showing at that time--twice. Bad weather was a factor, but instead of being upfront about not being able to come right away, they just lied about when they would come.
Description of Work: Repair of a leaking overflow valve on our oil-fired heating system boiler. The leaking pipe was removed and a new pressure regulation device was installed.

This is price gouging. I contacted the company about adjusting the charge, but they refuse. They did inform me of the fee before the work started and I agreed. I later found out that the work they did was really worth about $3000, not $7900. I believe they take advantage of unsuspecting homeowners who are in no position to take bids, so they charge whatever they want and refuse to itemize it. After the fact, I got a bid from another company that proves I was ripped off by these guys. BEWARE!!
Description of Work: On Monday 11/20, they worked from noon to 5pm, 2 men. First, they dug a trench that was about 18 feet long and 5 foot deep. Then, they broke out my old sewer line and put in a new plastic line with a clean out. The next day, 11/21, 2 men were here from 9 to noon to put gravel under the line and cover it up. This cost me $7900 for: 1. Dig an 18 foot long 5 foot deep trench. 2. Break out the old clay pipe sewer line. 3. Put in the new plastic sewer line with outlet for snake. 4. Gravel under new line. 5. Cover back up and replace grass. 6. Video the line. This took 5 hours on Monday and 3 hours on Tuesday, so 8 hours work with 2 men. This amounts to $500 per hour.

The workers and workmanship was ok. The problem was they grossly over charged me. I was an unsuspecting homeowner who never had a sewer problem before. I had no idea what this work SHOULD cost, so I agreed to pay them $7,900 before they started the work. A couple of days later, I found out that this job should have really cost about $3,000. I contacted the company but they refuse to adjust the bill. I was in no position to get bids for this job, so I feel they ripped me off. I made a huge mistake and learned a hard lesson by not being patient and taking bids. After the fact, I did get a bid and that's how I found out they ripped me off.

Worthless. I called the dispatcher and described my situation with 3 or 4 inches of water in my basement, probably from a backed up floor drain caused by the storm drains backing up. The emergency fee was $150. I agreed to it since it sounded like they could do something about it. The plumber came over, and said his pump wouldnt really work for that level of flooding and that the only real thing he could offer was to wet vac it out at $300 an hour. I was not impressed and asked him to leave after paying the $150 service call fee. He made it sound like he had been on a lot of similar calls that night. They should have recognized that they couldnt be helpful and not waste our time and money. About all I can say is that they came fairly quickly.

Do not use this company! They mislead my employee into thinking the situation was an extreme emergency and she agreed to an exorbitant price because of the persuasiveness of the serviceman. The company should have adjusted the price when it was apparent the problem was just a clogged toilet, not a broken sewer line.
Description of Work: This company was called to unclog a drain in my small, 700 square foot hair salon. The service rep told my manager a main pipe was probably cracked and if not immediately fixed would damage the space below our salon. The service man quoted a price of $752.85 to fix the damaged pipe. The pipe was not cracked and the problem was a large amount of paper was clogging the pipe. The paper was cleared and the problem fixed within an hours time but the plumber still charged $752.85. This was the price quoted for a BROKEN pipe. He unclogged the pipe using a snake and did not have to do any other repair. I called the company and asked them to reconsider the amount charged to me but was told that once an estimate is made they will not change it. The person I spoke to said she would check into it further but never called back and did not return my calls. My entire profit for the month went to Beacon plumbing to unclog a toilet in a hair salon with 4 employees.

Plumbers, like all contractors, have the consumer over a barrel. At least they came, the other two I called did not even show up! I dont think the public knows that many plumbers are on a commission. They fixed the drain and took several days as it was over a weekend; hence no water could be used that weekend. I figured that they had to dig and said so, but they would not listen instead ran snakes until THEY decided they had to dig to find the problem. They found another problem via camera. I did not know I was entitled to a copy of the video, so I need to have that done again. I have to fix the other problem they found and need bids as they said it would be $20,000, which I do not have laying around.
Description of Work: In order to clear the drain, they had to dig down to the line, and fix, straighten, and lay the pipe, which another contractor had done incorrectly prior- hence the back-up.

I was going on an extended trip and told the technician I couldnt take the time to lower the pressure. Their quote was 500.00. As a result, he wrote on the invoice "no warranty on work due to the customer declining to have work done." The cartridge failed again on 9/28/06. I called and was told no warranty even though it failed within 6 weeks of repair. In doing some research, I have discovered the cartridge they used sells for $18.95. The part to reduce my water pressure $36.95. I have found someone to do both for me at a total cost of $250.00 as opposed to Beacons $878.00. Im know longer expletive.
Description of Work: On July 14,06, I had hot water side shower valve replaced. I was told that I had extremely high water pressure that was causing the cartridge to fail.

The plumbers at Beacon are out for the high priced big jobs because they are on commission. I have never heard of a plumber making $265 in a half hour. I was so dissatisfied with the experience that I would not sign the Acceptance of Work performed on the contract. He refused to give me a copy a copy of the contract and left. I have called the Beacon Office three time to try to get the situation resolved because I am willing to pay something, but have never received a call back.
Description of Work: I was told by the City that I had a leak in my water line. I asked Beacon to find the leak in the line and repair. I was quoted $265.92 for minor leak search. I authorized him to proceed and he spent approximately 30 minutes digging to where the water line connects to the city line. It was obvious that the leak was not there and told me that was all that the $265 covered and that if I wanted any further searching done, it would be $1,600. He also offered me the option of building me an entire new water line for $3,200.

Awful. Overcharged. They cut out a hole in my garage wall and did not repair, they damaged the hardiplank on my house, which they did repair after many phone calls. I did not want the type of faucets I was given but was told they are regulation and had to be installed. They still leak and I can not use a soaker hose with these faucets. I hate them. Every time I water I get soaked from the leaking and the house is being sprayed by the leaking from the back yard hosebib. I want a different type. I have called Beacons for 3 days and no one will call me back. They say they will. Bill Cahill is the owner, I spoke with him once months ago. He said he would call back to see if the problem was resolved and never did.

Right around Thanksgiving (11/25/05) our water heater failed. We were anxious to replace it right away, partly because we have 3 small children (including a 1-month old). We called Beacon and a representative came promptly. He showed us our choices of water heaters in a big book, which also contained printed prices (all looking very official) and said he was giving us a water heater at the price of a slightly smaller one, since they didnt have one in the same size as our old one in stock. We agreed to the terms, not realizing how excessive the price was. Later, another rep brought the new water heater on a different truck and they installed it. The heater works fine, though we did notice a dent on it. Repeated attempts to contact them to discuss and resolve the issue of excessive price have gone unanswered. A complaint to the BBB has remained so far unresolved.
Description of Work: Emergency replacement of water heater. Draining old water heater and replacing with a new one. WE WERE RIPPED OFF!!
