MARV'S PLUMBING

I called them and received a quote that was close to the most of the other plumbing companies in Bellingham. They were able to come out within two days and replace my old hot water heater. The young man who installed it was professional and helpful. He removed the old heater and replaced the new one well within the estimated time. I haven't used Marv's to clean any drains yet, but I wouldn't hesitate to call them or refer anyone to them. I was very satisfied with their service.

So far, seal is holding. Received call from office advising me of estimate to make permanent seal and when it could be done. Provider responded to call within 2 hours of making call to their office, and plumber who came to house was knowledgeable and provided good explanation of situation and proposed solution.

Couldn't have been better. Plumber was competent, friendly, helpful and professional. Price was very reasonable. These guys are my plumbers from now on.

Looked this company up on Angies list. Called him: Gave me rough 2 hour estimate for the filter installation and the connection to the fridge. The plumber he sent took 3 hours and 15 minutes for the job. The guy was ok. When I get the bill the bill is for 6 and a quarter hours. They padded it by 3 hours. When I called them about it they gave me this story about travel time ( I am about 20 minutes from their address in Ferndale). Then gave me this story about how they have to replenish their truck so they are charging me for the time it will take them to buy 20$ worth of plumbing parts. They brought the bill down by 1 hour but still charged me for 5.25 hours.

My sewer pipes were clogged, not completely, it was draining very slowly. I called Marv's plumbing. The plumber, when he finally got here, would go no more than a couple of feet under the house. He then took off the toilet and sent down an auger. The auger would go through the clog and some water would drain and then it would back-up again. He did this several times with the same results every time. He could not figure out the problem. He then sent a camera down for 20 feet and it just showed water in the drain. He then told me it was the sewer itself that was full and backed up. I knew this wasn't true because I could hear the water dripping into the main sewer line. He then left without fixing the problem and did not give me a bill. I later received a bill in the mail for $537.25 and it was also incorrect. I then called another plumbing company ( Bode's Electric and Plumbing Inc) that a neighbor had used. The Bode's man knew what the problem was within 10 minutes! He also went completely under the house to check the whole pipe. He knew it wasn't the sewer backed up within 5 minutes. He knew an auger would not help at all. He left and came back with a flusher, cut the pipe under the house and flushed it out. He then put the pipe back and the problem was completely fixed for $378.67. I called Marv's plumbing when I received their bill for $537.25. The bill was incorrect and they did not even fix the problem! The secretary said the manager would call me back and talk about it. That was Monday and now (Wednesday) he still has not called back. I am retired and on a very small fixed income, proverty level. I cannot afford to be cheated! That is why I went to Angie's list in the first place.

I called because I need someone to service the pressure tank for my well. I was told by a well service company in Bellingham that a plumber can do that. I called Marv's Plumbing and Mark called me back. I explained what I needed and he responded that he knew how to do it, but they do not do it. I should call a well guy. Frankly, this has been typical of my experience with most tradesmen in Bellingham. They first tell you why they cannot do what you need done. Par for the course. Would I call this guy for a plumbing problem? Probably not. It's apparent there is a narrow definition of what "plumbing" is in this town and I don't know it.

Finally it was time to replace my gas hot water heater Called around town to get estimates. All wanted to come to my house to quote the job and all wanted to charge me for that estimate, all except Marv's Plumbing. My job was pretty straight forward and Marv's gave me a quote over the phone. Here in this area, the plumbers use "the book" to quote all jobs. From a clogged drain to installing a toilet it is always "the book." I am old fashioned and appreciate a job to be done by the hour type quote. Sometimes it takes 30 minutes other times 2 hours. Well, Marv's Plumbing has thrown out "the book." Good for them. In my case it paid off because they got the job and were $200.00 less than all the others that made quotes. I first contacted Marv's via e-mail and they quoted me right away. I then called to make an appointment and after going into details about the job, Dave quoted me the same price as the e-mail. (I did a little spy thing by holding my identity back) Dave said he could have someone out within the hour and he did. Jake came to the house right on time and was very pleasant. Looked at the old unit and said the installation would be no problem. He began to work immediately and needed no help from me. While working he was kind enough to answer many questions I had. You see I am not well versed in handyman stuff. The installation took just under one hour. From removing all the water to loading the old unit on his truck, Jake was gone and I had a new hot water tank. Marv's is truly old school. There was no request for payment. An invoice would be mailed to me. How refreshing. Other local companies when they walk into your house or business, the first words out of their mouths is about the cost of the job and how will you be paying today. This is especially true for the one company that has it's owner more interested in politics rather than caring about customer service. i received an in voice about 5 days after the job and i phoned up Marv's and payed over the phone using a Visa card. Very easy and no frustration in dealing with this financial transaction. Marv's is an LOCAL company and those are the best to support. That is what make good communities. Working with fair and honest people that you will run into on the streets. I appreciate the quick, on time,good service provided by Marv's. I appreciate that they have thrown out "the book." i will use these fine people for any future plumbing needs.

Had a plumber come out and tell me that the shower drain that was leaking needed to be moved over 6 inches which would mean an entire bathroom remodel. Called Marv's who came out and fixed without any drama. I would use them again.

Clogged drain under kitchen sink beyond wall. Plumber arrived on time, completed job promptly in about 30 minutes. Clean, professional, friendly.

The person from Marv's came out to give an estimate on the 11th of March. This person seemed fairly vague about my options for toilet replacements. He named a brand I have never heard of or ever seen reviewed as their typical unit used for replacement. I mentioned we had done a bit of research and were leaning towards an American Std Champion 4 basis all of the reviews we had read. he was somewhat dismissive of it, as he said they "had problems" with them. I indicated I was willing to look at alternatives, but wanted to see what they were suggesting listed in the quote so I could research them. Next up was looking at estimates for water heaters. He looked at our setup (although without any pen and paper, so no measurements taken) which was somewhat problematic for a tankless due to placement and venting reqts he mentioned. I was promised a quote on the toilets and the various options for hot water heater replacement (either duals, or tankless). This was over a 1.5 weeks ago, and I have not received a single phone call or email to follow up. All I can take from this lack of timeliness is that business is very good and our job is simply not worth their time, and good customer service is not something that this company values.

Arrived on time, did the work requested in a professional manner.

The representative from Marv's Plumbing arrived on time and quickly got to work. Over the phone they told me it would be an extra $25 to use the floor snake/auger. I'm not sure why it costs more but it does. It took him approximately 1 hour to clear the floor drain. He then asked for cleaning supplies to clean the floor of the laundry room. I brought him a mop and bleach water. Clean up took approximately ten minutes. I was surprised that they don't have their own clean up supplies. They gladly accepted my Angie's List coupon and told me that I would be billed for the service. I was billed for 1.25 hours which included the few minutes it took to clean up.

Overall, I'm not very satisfied with these guys. When the plumber arrived, he didn't give my wife an estimate on how much it would be but just started on the work. They stopped the leak but $265.45 for 2 hours of work seems a bit much. They charged $84.20 for the Kohler valve kit, $170 for 2 hours of labor, and $21.25 sales tax. The $10 discount they offer is a joke. That amounts to a less than 4 percent discount on the part and labor. A few weeks later, after the bill arrived, I called to ask about the charges. They said they would look into it and get back to me which they never did. I'll be using someone else next time, probably their competitor who gives a 10 PERCENT Angie's List discount.

The water heater was replaced efficiently the day after I contacted them. The estimate and the cost were identical. The new toilet was the wrong color, however, and it could not be installed (the plumber had already removed the old one). The right color toilet was out of stock and had to be ordered. After six weeks (!) I called, only to find out that the toilet was still in transit, coming from the manufacturer in China, and was "somewhere out in the Pacific on a barge to the West Coast." Dave was on vacation and Chris (?) was appalled that I had been waiting so long for the toilet. He offered to install a different, higher quality toilet the next day for his cost from his distributor, and I took him up on his offer. We are pleased with both the products and the service. While it was a bit inconvenient to wait for a new toilet, and it would have been more professional for them to have contacted me well before I re-contacted them to inquire about the whereabouts of the toilet, I will still recommend Marv's for price, efficiency and trustworthiness.

Toilet was messed up, Marv's fixed it. It still works and the guy was polite, on time and nice when he was here. he used a cheap, universal part when he fixed it (I checked it out the work after the fact) but it works pretty good, I learned that because they fix so many of these that they cannot stock specific parts in their vans, they have to go universal. No major complaints!

I booked the appointment Monday AM for that Wednesday. He showed up on time, was courteous to everyone in the house, did the troubleshooting in less than 15 minutes and 30 minutes later our shower valve was adjusted properly with the shower wiped down clean. They have my business for good now. Great outfit.

It went great, he was on time and worked hard to get the job done. He cleaned up as he went and he didn't even mind a 4 year old watching him work all day. The screaming 1 year old might have gotten to him a little but he never showed it!

He was prompt. He explained the problem and fixed it quickly. It took all of 10 minutes. He answered all my questions. When I asked how much I owed, he said "Nothing." You can't beat that kind of service.

They've done multiple jobs for me. I don't have any dislikes. They have prompt services and competitive prices.

We have several rentals and Marv's Plumbing have been "our go to plumbers" for years. They are prompt, efficient and all around great to work with. We are very glad to have them on our team! I would not hesitate to recommend them to anyone.

I was very pleased with them. I think that they did a great job. They were very professional. They did everything. I was not able to find one of the parts in the stores and they were able to get hold of that. I have a very old shower and they could find the replacement part where I couldn’t find it. I was happy about that. It was a very good experience. Their price was fair. I would use them in the future.

We were visiting or rental property and attempting to winterize the house when we accidentally broke the water main to the house while wrapping a hose bib. The house was built in 1924 and the pipe corroded. Marv sent over a plumber ASAP to turn off the running water and then the plumber figured out the most cost effective way to repair the problem. The next day we noticed a mushy spot in the yard and on further inspection it was pretty obvious we had a sewer problem too. Once again they sent out a plumber and this poor guy had a really ugly job to deal with. He was able to repair the portion of the swear pipe that cracked. Both times we called we received immediate service. Both calls felt like emergencies to us and Marv handled them promptly with professionalism. We now have their business card on file at the house and have told our daughter if she ever needs a plumber to call Marv!

They were great to work with! They scheduled the repair work for the day after I called, which was fine with a slow leak. The worker showed up on time, had to dig in hard rocky soil under cold blustery conditions, and was efficient and pleasant throughout. I would definitely use them again!
