We are happy to offer options for scheduling but we schedule first come first served. We offer all available options when you make the call and we can even call you back if something earlier comes available and you have told us you want to move up. Unfortunately we can’t hold on to openings if another customer calls in and commits to that time. Our suggestion is to schedule the time and call us back if you need to move it. This is even more important in the Spring and Summer when our schedule is even fuller.

We had some foundation settling cracks on our wall while we had a Mr. Handyman service provider do some misc. repairs we added fixing the cracks to the list. The result was that it looked 10 times worse than it did before he did anything. I tried reaching out to Mr. Handyman corporate but didn't get a response. Unfortunately I can't attach a picture but basically the result left us with what looked like a very large water stain on the wall that bubbles. They make be good for misc. repairs but NOT anything to do with drywall. We are about to pay someone else to fix the unsightly wall this weekend.
Description of Work: We had A Mr. Handyman provider come and do some miscellaneous repair the non drywall stuff was fine but we had him repair a could of settling cracks and the result was terrible.

At Mr Handyman we guarantee our work and this does not sound like a job we would have left uncorrected. We also follow up our jobs to see how things went. If we have a flaw in our result that looks like what is described here, we would certainly not leave it. We would return free of charge and correct any issues that may have occurred during this repair. We charge to do the job right, not to do it again. We know we are not perfect but we do try and follow up so that if there is a flaw we can get it addressed in a timely manner. This work was done over 1.5 years ago and we did do a quality assurance call and email within a week and neither were responded to. It’s difficult to know something went wrong when we don’t get a response back. We will follow up again to see if we can get this corrected. If you have an issue with ours or any contractors work, it is respectful to call them and let them know. Repairs are not like new construction. We end up dealing with vast array of unknown materials and unknown processes and standard techniques don’t always work. Letting us know there is a problem is the first step to figuring out how to fix it and then getting it fixed.

service was good, he was professional. unfortunately, it was his first time installing a storm door so a door that was supposed to take 45 minutes (accordingt to the manufacturer) took much longer, and since they charge by the hour it was not a good deal for me. Interior door was installed quickly and well. If you use them, be sure they send someone that knows the work so you do not pay for their learning curve...
Description of Work: Installed a storm door and framed in new interior door.

Well, this is where things got lost: Unfortunately, after the appointment, the paperwork was either not turned in by the tech or somehow things just got lost in the shuffle. After contacting Bob (the owner @ Mr. Handyman) several times and explaining how wonderful his service was on the front end but how disappointed I was with the follow-up, Bob immediately responded with a gratis invoice for 2 hours of service. Gotta admit, this is excellent customer service and a way to win a customer back! Bob gets it! Things happen and I will definitely give them another try!
Description of Work: First of all, the staff wanted to know my needs and those fields they were not experts at, they immediately recommended me to companies who specialized in those fields. They did however come to my home to help identify some water intrusion and suggest a few remedies. Very bad service, when I called to schedule appt I specifically told them the things I needed fixed. When the guy came out he said he was going to pass on installing my thermostat. He fixed my hood vent but didn't tell me it wouldn't work with my microwave. He installed a ceiling fan and the light didn't work. He left and took my money and nothing was finished.

Response from Mr. Handyman of SE Bellevue
We have reviewed this project and I would have to agree with their perception. Our initial visit was not complete. We were asked to replace a thermostat face plate but the change was actually a programmable thermostat and these require knowledge of the HVAC which we do not have. As a result we were not able to replace the thermostat and recommended they contact the HVAC company that installed it for proper maintenance. We can do a lot of things but we have limits and this was one of them. We were asked to re-connect a microwave vent in the cabinet. This we did but did not know that the microwave had been replaced and that the exhaust vent was no longer located in the correct place. We did find this issue and offered to re-locate the vent for them but they did not want to pay extra for this service and asked us not to do it. We did install the ceiling fan but were not able to get the light working on the initial visit. We did return and correct the damaged light connection at no extra cost. We do not charge for non-productive work and we returned free of charge to correct some issues so by the time we left we had completed all of the tasks we could do. We charged only for things we completed.

We shopped around on price to install a new front door. Lowe's was offering installation at $290. This company responded very quickly to my inquiries and were very nice however they said a front door is an "all day" job and quoted me over $800! My grandmother installed her own front door so I know that while not an easy task, our standard size front door should not take 8 hours to install (mind you, this is just to install it, not including the cost of the door). Also, when I emailed with questions on rates they called me and asked me to call them back which is a HUGE pet peeve of mine. If I had time to call I would have, so it was a bit of a waste of time to email.

Thank you for providing feedback. While I wish the response was better it does allow us to share why these kinds of things happen and what the differences in service might be. I remember this call and did share that we would schedule the door install for a full day. I also said that an exterior door install is typically a half day to full day installation and that while we would schedule a full day and provided pricing for the full day that does not mean that is what it would cost. We bill for the time it takes to install the door properly and not the time we scheduled. If things go well and the door is installed, sealed up, trimmed and hardware is transferred, ready for paint it could be done in half a day. If things don’t go well (wall is warped or not plumb, door doesn’t fit the opening, we find rot in the framing, etc.) we would need more time and it could take up to a full day to complete the install. We guarantee our work so we need to be sure the install is problem free or we get calls to come back and correct things and we do so free of charge. Unlike the box stores, we don’t sell doors and we don’t use lowest paid subcontractors who are motivated to install fast and not necessarily right for these jobs. We use background checked employee technicians with a minimum of 15 years of experience so they know how to properly install a door. They arrive on-time in a uniform and a well-marked van so you know who is coming to your door and they provide a business card upon arrival. We’ve corrected many installations provided by box store installers. We very often ask Angie’s List customers to call or email us because the messaging system provided is very clumsy and does not allow a fluid interaction. We also don’t just give pricing information because there are many things that can affect the price and many of the things I listed above would be missed. When is the last time someone called a Mercedes dealer and asked how much their cars cost? Again thanks for calling us. I hope this helps explain some of the differences and that if you have any problems with your door you will give us a call back. Thanks Bob

Very professional and quality work. The work required a tall ladder and for safety reasons the supervisor accompanied the handyman. They only charged for the handyman, which was appreciated. It did take a while to get an appointment scheduled, but once they came out, they did a great job. I would definitely use them again for jobs in the future.

The job was done with good craftsmanship. The Company emphasizes customer satisfaction which is very important. It was done in a very timely fashion.
Description of Work: Repaired deck support beams and repaired cracks in concrete steps
The project went very well. At less than half some other estimates, the siding is now repaired and matched so well that you would not know anything had ever been done. They were prompt and efficient and completed the job under budget.
Description of Work: Mr Handyman replaced a large amount of rotten cedar siding on my house. They also reseated windows and patio doors that had not been installed correctly by the original installers, and replaced flashing above the windows. All cedar was painted and caulked to ensure a water tight finish.

The entire job was very well done and looks and works great. It turned out to be a bit harder than initially expected because of the extremely limited space in the attic and also due to some difficulty getting to nearest source of electricity. Though the warm day made it unpleasant working in the attic, he worked cheerfully and without complaint. I would definitely recommend Mr. Handyman of Bellevue for anyone's handyman needs.
Description of Work: Installed two ceiling fans including electrical work, adding new switches in the walls. Also, some miscellaneous work around the house.
When I scheduled the appointment, I said that I had a long list, and wondered about running out of time. I was told that the provider would stay until all the work was finished. I had originally waited two weeks for my scheduled appointment in August, but the scheduled service person had been injured, and I had to wait until that particular person was recovered - the woman who called said there was no backup, that they scheduled individually, and that I had to then wait until I was able to be rebooked. The service provider was prompt and professional in attitude. I walked through the whole list, and said that I knew it might not all fit in, and identified the most important tasks from my point of view. The provider said "we'll see what we can get done" and decided to start outside and then move inside. He did a great and professional job on the outside lights, but it took over an hour to put up two brackets for a shelf because of where the studs were located. I indicated that nothing heavy was going on it, and so maybe we could use just one stud so that it could be placed well. He insisted on mounting a lightweight shelf into studs only, rather than using drywall anchors, and so now my shelf is very solid but one bracket is at the very end and the other is close to the middle. It looks strange, but I agreed just to get the shelf up and keep moving. At around that point he announced my time was up , and I told him that several critical items on the list were not done and I needed the medicine cabinet at least mounted. He called his office to get permission for an extra half hour, and did mount the medicine cabinet - however, he had trouble with the studs and the weight, so I have two very visible holes (first attempts) in the back of the cabinet when you open the doors, and the 4 mounting bolts are visibly not aligned. He also left the shelves inside taped to the bottom when he put the doors up, so I had to take the doors off again just to put the shelves in place. I had identified three critical tasks - two of which he said would only take a minute - and he never got to those very quick tasks. He said I needed to schedule another appointment - at a minimum $250 charge. I was billed $110 per hour for 5 hours, which was higher than the per hour price I was quoted, and charged $10 for 10 screws. This seemed a bit out of line to me. The work completed ranged from great to OK, but I was very disappointed at how long it look and and the lack of prioritization when I clearly indicted what was most important. The hour-long shelf was not high on the list, and the 2 repairs that would take minutes never were done.
Description of Work: A number of small jobs - replacing outdoor electrical fixture, hanging shelf, hanging medicine cabinet, changing light bulbs on high electrical fixtures.

Thank you for taking the time to provide valuable feedback. I can see from your passion and your rating that this was not the best job we have done. An average rating is not what we want so we have called and left a couple of messages but have not been able to get a hold of you to find out what we can do to address the concerns. Having a list of items that is more than we can complete on a single visit is not unique. Many people will add things to their list when they find out that we can take care of them. We give the customer we are working for the priority and will typically stay to finish added tasks. I think that in this case the following visit was also one of these extended lists so the technician felt he needed to get back to complete tasks he has previously started. This is no excuse for not getting your jobs done so please give us a call if you are willing to work with us again. While we do have a standard service call for each scheduled visit we usually just continue jobs from where we left off if the list was longer than what we could get done on the initial visit. This would have been the case for your project list and would not have included another service call. We guarantee our work. We charge to do the job right but we do not charge to correct issues. If we need to correct anything we have done wrong we would do so at no charge to you. It may not be clear what the technician used from his van but we don’t charge $10 for 10 screws. We do however provide van stock at a bit higher rate that what Home Depot sells them for. The value of having materials that don’t require a special hardware store trip has a lot more value than just the cost of the material itself to we do our best to keep our vans well stocked with common home repair materials. Thanks Bob
Jamison was great. He arrived on time and got right to work. All of his work was done to my satisfaction. He went to Home Depot to buy additional pieces as needed and returned quickly. I was extremely pleased.
Description of Work: He repaired drywall in one bedroom, painted the room where he did drywall work, replaced sliding door tracks, replaced a kitchen faucet and sprayer, put batteries in smoke alarms that were located high on a cathedral city, repaired several areas both on walls and on the ceiling that had gouges, nails coming through, etc.
Phil showed up a little early and got right to work. He was able to trouble shoot the issues with the various doors and provide multiple options on how they could be fixed. After the solution set was decided on he got them fixed and working appropriately. In the bathroom he fixed the counter cap tile piece that had come off and took care of the cracked and flaking grout in the counter/backsplash seam. I really appreciated Phil's work. He is very personable and pleasant to work with. The entire time he was keeping me informed of my options and explaining why different things may have occurred.
Description of Work: Fixed three outside doors that were sticking and basically inoperable. Fixed a counter cap tile that had fallen off and cleaned up cracked grout. Replaced some ceiling insulation that had been peeled back for some plumbing work.

First Off - The office staff were great in scheduling and keeping us informed. Special shout out to DeAnn and Terry on project scheduling and staging. They are great! Initially, the project was to scrape, prime, and paint our 2 1/2 story chimney chase. Ed/Chris arrived right on time. After they put up the scaffolding, they got to work. However - as they started the project, they quickly realized based on the condition of the cedar lap siding - it would be better in the long run to get rid of the old siding, replace with new and prime and paint. We agreed that it may cost a little more in the short term - but, was a great long term decision/investment for our home. So - that day Ed/Chris took measurements and purchased the materials. Now - we had to reschedule to have the rest of the work completed. That is where DeAnn and Terry came in and got things organized. About a week later, Ed/Chris were back to tear off the old siding, replace the siding, and prime and paint. Of course, they were working during the stretch where temps got into the 90's. They got started early in the morning and got the job done in two days. They were great. When they came back out to check something, they recommended another coat of paint should be done. With scheduling pros 'DeAnn & Terry', they got another tech Jamison and Chris came out to complete the second coat of paint. We were so impressed with Mr Handyman, we recommended them to our neighbors and one of our neighbors had some work done as well. I will say this: Mr Handyman of Bellevue is not cheapest game in town. However - if you want a company that is properly insured, bonded, has great office staff and very experienced technicians doing quality work - then My Handyman of Bellevue is the way to go. I know we will have additional projects in the future and Mr Handyman of Bellevue will be our first call to get the job done right.

Emmett was the lead contractor and brought a different co-worker/assistant with him for each of the 1.5 days of demolition work. On the third day, a half day, Emmett brought along another lead, Ed, to assist with removing the 6-8' foot section of a beam that had considerable dry rot. They did a good job also in replacing the beam, capping off the plumbing (and removing some unnecessary junctions), replacing the insulation in the affected crawl space area, saving two vanity sinks & the toilet, and nicely cleaning up the site. We will be bringing Emmett and/or Ed back out for other projects in the near future.

Their service has been sporadic at best. I was told the entire job would be done in one week. I have been in communications with this provider consistently. I expected the service to be done no later than Tuesday of this week at the latest since their initial assessment of the job was less than a week to completion. I have called and been given a time frame for service and no one shows up. I have set up and had to cancel numerous appointments due to their complete lack of communication and professionalism. I just want the service done in the time frame I was given so I can move on with other projects I have planned.

This is a pretty bad rating. You would think from this that we messed up everything and the whole project was a disaster. I’m a bit disappointed with their perception. I would agree that this project did not go perfectly but it was far from a disaster. The work was scheduled and performed to an insurance estimate and the cost of the project was billed to the penny to the estimate that the insurance company said was fair and equitable. The work was more extensive than the adjuster predicted by looking at the surfaces and this added a couple of days of work to the project. This extension was communicated to both the home owner and to the insurance company. We are still waiting for insurance approval so we can get paid for this additional work. We scheduled all work to start at 8am each day and missed a couple of appointments because of illness and family emergency. We are human so we need to take sick days off rather than expose customers to it. Mr Handyman answers all our phone calls and replies to emails promptly so I am not sure why we are rated down on responsiveness. I suspect that when the customer writes a review in the heat of the moment then they might be inclined to remember the negatives and none of the positives. Our apologies for their perception. We still appreciate the review as it helps us stay on top of the things we need to work on. Thanks Bob
