Description of Work: We brought out 2005 Explorer in because the transmission seemed to be slipping. Terrance did an evaluation and cost estimate. He did advise us that it might not be cost effective uncles we planned to keep our cat for quite awhile. Appreciated his honest advise and how quickly he took in our car.

I called Eastside about my 2005 Mini Cooper transmission problems. The dealer said I needed to replace the entire system for $8500. Eastside said there might be a less expensive option, they test drove it and determined it was the valve body that was fatigued, not the entire transmission at fault. They got the parts in 5 days and replaced it in 1 hour. Car works great, very happy with Eastside.
Description of Work: Replaced the transmission valve body.

My truck had a strong vibration when turning at slow speeds. I looked into this issue online first as I like to be a bit educated before speaking with any service company. All indications pointed to an issue in the rear differential that minimum would require a friction modifier to be added. Worst case would involve rebuilding the rear differential. Eastside took the truck out and reviewed the issue. They contacted me and informed me of exactly what I had read online. In addition they only recommended the fiction modifier first to see if this would solve the problem. I appreciated that they didn't jump to the more expensive option which they easily could have. They noted 2 additional issues that required service. First the transmission was due for a change. I have 77k on the truck and never changed the fluid. Second, during the last oil change on the truck(not with Eastside), the drain plug for the oil was barely finger tight and my oil had dropped significantly. I was due anyways for a change, so I had them do this as well. Overall the experience was excellent. They kept me well informed, took me to and from work during service and identified issues in line with what I could cross check online. Price was also inline with expectations. In fact, there was a mis quote over the phone were they quoted a cost for a standard vehicle, not a truck. When I mentioned the difference, they explained the misunderstanding, but stood by the lower quote on the phone. Overall the experience was excellent. They kept me well informed, took me to and from work during service and identified issues in line with what I could cross check online. Price was also inline with expectations.

From start to finish, Eastside was professional and thorough. They did high quality work, completed the job promptly, and did their best to minimize the price of a costly repair. Terrance was a pleasure to work with, and I would recommend Eastside to anyone who needs auto transmission help!
Description of Work: After an assessment and problem diagnosis, Eastside Transmission replaced the clutch and dual-mass flywheel in my son's 2002 Lexus IS300. They acquired parts from OEM and aftermarket suppliers as required, and performed all the labor for the repair. They also provided a 36mo/36,000 mile warranty for the work performed.

Used Eastside Transmission since it was near and needed to replace my transmission. After calling around, they were the most affordable and offered a place, Springleaf Financial - across the street, for a small loan, since I didn't have $3,000 readily available for a rebuilt transmission. In hindsight, you should not take your car here. My transmission fused together and they installed a rebuilt transmission and after 2 months, I can hear loud noises, vibrations, clicking, all coming from where I shift my Jeep Grand Cherokee. I'm highly disappointed, and after taking it back for them to take a look at it, they drove it around and said that it was fine. Prior to my transmission fusing, my car never had engine problems, nor did the transmission ever make any noises. Now, everytime I shift in reverse, it sounds like metal mashing on metal and the entire Jeep vibrates, I believe I lost torque, since when I need to accelerate, it takes me longer to do so than prior.Highly disappointed in the service there. When I took the Jeep back, they propped it up on a lift and plugged in my Jeep to their computers, and notified me that the noise is coming from O2 sensors that are bad. Horrible experience. Buyer be ware!!! If you find yourself in my situation, take your car to a dealership and either trade-in your car or get them to replace your transmission with a new one, not a rebuilt transmission, plus their guarantee lasts twice as long, compared to a 50,000k warranty at Eastside Transmission.

The shop was good. Overall, the experience was negative, because the parts of the transmission fell. It took much longer than expected. They were recommended by a mechanical shop at Bellevue. They were very expensive. They took too long, but the quality of the transmission was superior. They have a superior warranty on their work. I will use them if I needed to.

I agonized over the repair cost because it was over twice what this 2000 Dodge Caravan would bring as a trade-in. However, this vehicle has been one of the most dependable vehicles I've ever owned (and I've owned a few) and I decided to have it repaired. I called on the day it was supposed to be ready, but was told they were hearing a strange noise and were not ready to release the vehicle. When I called back the next day I was told the noise did not appear to be coming from the transmission, and I could pick up my van (the noise was coming from something in the exhaust system, and I had tuned it out long ago). Jerry Swanzy (manager?) went over the repair bill with me explaining what was done and why, all in a very professional manner. When I asked his opinion as to what caused the torque converter to fail he asked me one question: do I come to a complete stop before shifting from reverse to forward? When I answered, "not always", he politely informed me not coming to a complete stop was most likely the cause of the problem. Point taken. I had been given a quick tour through Eastside's shop prior to their working on my van, and I saw every imaginable vehicle there, from collector cars to late model, very expensive imported cars; when I expressed my amazement at the variety of vehicles there, Jerry informed me there was not a car transmission they couldn't service. It's been two years since Eastside repaired the transmission in my van, and I have had no issues.
Description of Work: Although I managed to drive my van to Eastside Transmission in Bellevue from my home in Kirkland, the tech assigned to test drive my vehicle was so alarmed at how much noise the transmission made just moving in the parking lost he refused to drive it any farther. I was called and informed the transmission would need to be removed before they could give me an exact figure. When I pressed them for an approximation I was told around $2400.00. Upon removing and inspecting the transmission they confirmed what I suspected: the torque converter was completely destroyed, and metal grindings were everywhere in the transmission. The transmission was disassembled, cleaned, re-built; a shift valve-body calibration kit was installed to correct a known shifting problem; a re-built torque converter was installed.

I was in New York when my daughter called to tell me the car (located in Bellevue, WA) stopped and was unable to move forward or backward. I did an internet search on my phone and found that Eastside Transmission was generally well-rated on Yelp for a decent price, which was about $1600 less than Ford of Kirkland. I had the car towed there. We talked on the phone after they did an initial inspection. They stated it would fall somewhere between $2000 - $2700 plus tax, dependent upon what they found when they opened up the transmission. They started work on a Wednesday, and I picked up the car the next Monday at noon. I was out of town all that week, but I called twice and they were very responsive and forthcoming with what they had found. When I picked up the car it was waiting in the lot out front. I talked briefly with the gentleman at the counter who was able to answer my questions. I will be taking it back for a scheduled 500 mile check-up. They have a 36,000 mile/3 year warranty on their work. I know nothing about transmissions, so the experience was about as easy I would have hoped it to be. It is just an expensive fix. I hear there are cheaper places in south Seattle, but that is a long tow-truck ride from where I am in North Bellevue.

They were very professional, friendly and courteous, from my first phone call to the day I picked up the car, and very good about keeping me informed as to what was happening. They require you to take the car back after a few weeks or 500 miles for a follow-up check, and I was in and out of there in 20 minutes for that appointment.
Description of Work: Our car's transmission was acting up, and we didn't really want to spend the money to get a new (or newer used) car, so we did some research and found good Angie's List reports on Eastside Transmission. I called to get some information and explain what was happening. The guy I spoke with was very knowledgeable and took all the time I needed to give me the information I needed, the experience he had dealing with my era and model of car (including the upgrades they do to make the transmission stronger and better -- kind of like the $6-Million Man, for those who remember that TV series), and what I could expect price-wise and time-wise to get it fixed. I made an appointment for the following Monday, took it in and left it for them to diagnose, and they got right on it and called me that afternoon with the expected news that it did in fact need to have the transmission rebuilt. Due to certain parts that needed to be ordered (which I was told might happen), it took a week to complete the job, but I was kept informed as to each step of the process, so that there were no surprises, including on the price. Having never had to have a transmission rebuilt, I wasn't sure what to expect, but I felt confident that these guys really know their stuff, and now, nearly 1,000 miles later, I've had no problems and the transmission is behaving perfectly. If something does go wrong, they provide a 3-year warranty, so I'm confident they'll take care of any problem that might come up. Yes, it's pricey, but you get what you pay for. I'd definitely recommend Eastside Transmission, and will go back there if I need transmission work done in the future. And for those in Seattle, don't be afraid to head across the lake to Bellevue -- the shop is easy to get to!

The staff at Eastside Transmission is courteous, considerate and willing to explain in layman's terms what actually happens when a transmission must be rebuilt and/or replaced and how to keep it from happening again.
Description of Work: Rebuilt a gently used transmission for a "99 Saab 9-5. Car originally towed to Autologic to check for problems whereupon I was notified it definitely was the transmission that needed work. Transmission repair is not very exciting if all goes as expected. I encountered no surprises, no "bait & switch" tactics, no high pressure sales tactics. Other than the delay, all went smoothly. Eastside's work comes with a nationwide 36 month, 36,000 mile warranty. I was queried about my driving habits, specifically, did I, or others who might drive the car, shift from reverse to forward without coming to a complete stop. I had to admit that my wife & I were probably both guilty of this at least on occasion. The manager explained this improper action likely contributed in great measure to the failure of the torque converter. He also encouraged me to have the fluid changed much more frequently than recommended by Chrysler. I saw some rather exotic & expensive automobiles in this shop, and when I asked about the range of their experience I was told they have worked on virtually every car made.
Description of Work: 2000 Dodge Caravan: removed transmission, disassembled, inspected, provided estimate. Estimate was a little higher than I expected, but some additional parts were required because of the catastrophic failure of the torque converter. Van was not ready on date quoted because they were hearing a noise they thought might be coming from the transmission. Ultimately the noise was determined not to be coming from the transmission, but from the exhaust system.

I called Eastside Transmission based on positive reports from Angie's List. The phone number listed is always answered whenever I've called, even on the weekends. One of the owners, Jerry, has calls forwarded to his cell phone during off-hours. Jerry was very courteous and helpful, explaining what they would do before going ahead. After their initial diagnosis, Jerry called with the news that the work involved not only problems with the transfer case, but there were indications of problems with the main transmission, a major cost ($3-4,000). They found metal shavings in the transfer case and the main transmission. As this was a 10 year old vehicle with almost 120,000 miles, the Blue Book value was about that much. I ultimately decided not to repair the vehicle and instead sold it to one of the workers at the company for scrap. Jerry did not charge me for the work they conducted.
Description of Work: I was having some trouble with the 4 wheel drive function in my SUV. I took it in to have them examine it to see what was the problem. They diagnosed the problem and verified that the cost of repair was greater than the blue book value.

I have used Eastside Transmission for several years on a variety of vehicles and have found them to be thorough, honest and reasonably priced. I feel more comfortable having them perform transmission work than I would going to the dealer and save money also. They are an AAA affiliate and offer a 10% discount (up to $30) for AAA members. Jerry and his group are first class.

We towed it back home. There was no charge for the service. If we were to have the work done we would have had it done by them, because we were impressed with the promptness and thoroughness. We are not from the area and did not know of other companies.
