My wife and I built our house in Kalama, and use don to do quartz countertops. Everything seems great in the beginning until the end product that he installed was very poor. The reveals were different from the front of cabinet across the face, and he did not do a backsplash. Unfortunately, we paid him the full amount, trusting that he would take care of us. But he ran away, and completely ignored us, so now we’re stuck with this. I would not recommend using this company.

I was referred to Take Us For Granite by a local fabricator. Initially, I was promised a bargain deal with the work to be completed in a week. However, I was continually put off and rescheduled multiple times for 3 1/2 weeks. After 4 weeks of missed appointments, I was told by Don's, clearly overwhelmed, son that he had to do everyone's job there and he didn't have time to continue to take my calls and respond to me about rescheduling. Since they were "too busy" for my job, I instructed them to return the granite slab to the fabricator so I could hire another more reliable company to complete the work. While they agreed to return the slab to the fabricator or another installer of my choice, they then asked me to pay for their time. Don's son called yelling profanities at me. I replied with two words of my own and hung up. Then Don, himself, contacted me expressing his frustrations. Clearly these two do not work as a team. Long story short, this business lacks in all areas of professionalism. I have no idea the quality of work as they never made it to the job site. While they offered a bargain of a price, it's not a bargain if they don't complete the work. I see there are multiple poor reviews. Next time I will do my research first.
Description of Work: I needed a single granite slab cut to size (3'X5') and installed on an island counter top.

The contractor was instructed to replace the Corian counters with ground-up granite tops exactly as the removed tops were installed. The counters were removed in late April, 2015 and the job was ostensibly completed on July 1, 2015. The initial promise from the contractor was a two-week turn around. As a result of the delay, this caused us to cancel vacation plans and other events where we use the coach. The delay was blamed initially on the fact that the insert covers for the sink and range had to be water jetted for an exact fit. Don, the owner of the company then called me on June 26, 2015 and explained to me that an additional slab had to be ordered from Vietnam and that they would not be able to do anything until receiving the material from the port. He promised at that time to complete the project on the following Monday. He was apologetic and said he would even throw in another slab for a TV cabinet that we were also having installed. When called on Monday to find out status, he was agitated with me that he had to go to where the coach was located (where other remodel work was being completed and where he did removal and installation of the counters). I told him that I would bring the coach to him. He kept it overnight as he did not have time to work on it on Monday. When he called me on Tuesday and said the work was complete and I could pick up the coach, I then went to pick up the coach. He later called me back and said I owed him an additional $400 for the extra slab for the TV cabinet. I showed up on the afternoon of Tuesday to retrieve the coach and found that the extra slab had not been cut as we discussed and that the inserts were not cut by a water jet machine (as described by the owners son) as they did not fit correctly, had gaps, the stove top insert does not sit level, and were too tight in other places. In addition, I discovered that the stove top range had not been centered in the installation and amateurishly trimmed. It is not centered either on the cabinet or under the microwave as the removed counter was. In addition the fold up side counter does not come up level and leans precariously to one side -- it is unusable. He had left the shop before I came to pick up the coach and would not answer the phone when I attempted to call him. On July 24th, I contacted him to offer him an opportunity to replace the slab and correct the work before I proceeded to a legal solution. He did not respond to my efforts to reach out. It is my belief that the work is so poor and shabby, he has decreased the value of my motor coach substantially. I plan to communicate with the BBB and the state licensing agency to complain. Contractors and private individuals who need work done should stay clear of this guy. The work was performed at the providers location and at a shop in Woodland, WA. I would either/or be willing to share photos or show in person.
Description of Work: The provider removed and replaced the counters in my high end Monaco (Safari Cheetah) Motor Home.

Do not use Don Sothard, He will ask you to pay before his crew completely finish up and if there is any unfinished part, he will not come back once you paid. Ours was a simple job of just installing backsplash but it was around Christmas time. The backsplash was installed before Christmas but it had to be cleaned and sealed after it is dried for few days. The cew was supposed to come back to finish up after New Year but Don texted me saying the crew's wife has to go to emergency room on the day he was supposed to come (which was a suspecious) and Don has not send anyone after that. I try to contract him but he ignores my calls. He has some money issues as his previous paper mill business in Indonesis went bad and he was broke. His knowledge of stone installation is self--taught and he does not have many experiences. I will file a complain to Contractors Board, too.

This experience has caused an extreme amount of consternation and I wish that we had looked for and found someone different.
Description of Work: Don Southard is an excellent salesman. We paid about 1/2 upfront so that he could buy the granite material. This was on March 10th. He bought the material from Pental granite wholesalers. At the end of March he removed the old counter tops, and the next day came to install the new granite. The under-mount sink got cracked (unusable) and he blamed me for it. He had the sink balanced inside the cabinet, when I opened the cabinet door the sink fell and possibly cracked then? The seam is not perfect. We asked for 1/2 bull-nose edging and got something different, it is on his contractor itemized list. We asked for a flush finish on the sink mounting and the mounting is not flush, he says what he did is a better way, it may be, but he did not explain that to us upfront. The counter top on the island is about 1/2 inch to low so that the stove sticks up above the counter by about 1/2 inch. He said that it would be lower by about 1/4inch, That would have been OK, but 1/2 inch is to much, I can't adjust the stove any lower, I would if I could! Part of the job involved replacing the dining room buffet counter top. A real simple job - rectangular 2X6ft, with back splash. It is now late June and the job is still not finished Because I paid virtually all of the contracted amount he refuses to come back and finish the job. I have gone to two different physical addresses that I could find for him, One was not a valid existent address the other he had vacated 2 years ago. He has calller ID and refuses to answer his phone when I call, or respond to emails. He also had his crew working until 10PM on a Friday night - they made a fair amount of noise in the driveway until about 9PM. The neighbors complained to me the next day. The cutout for the range was incorrect so that the slide-in range stuck out about 1 inch to far. It was fixable, but that involved his crew having to cut one inch off of the counter-top, That was after the counter-top was installed so the cutting was done inside the kitchen, made one heck of a mess that should have been done in his shop, if he has one. I am not only disappointed, but my wife is mad at me and I am mad at Southard.
