Description of Work: Through Angie's List I purchased a chimney sweep and inspection. I received a series of photos with a very brief explanation and quote of $10,592 for full replacement of the chimney. |They would not provide any receipt or documentation of services provided, since I paid for them through Angie's List. |Very disappointed.

Description of Work: I hired Powers to clean my chimney and replace three bricks in the top row of a low wall in my yard. The technician cleaned the chimney, but devoted an disproportionate amount of time to documenting the condition of the structure. He presented me with an estimate, which I did not ask for, of approximately $10,000 to rebuild two chimneys on my home. (The F for price reflects this aspect of the visit.) I ended up feeling like I paid a fee for him to come down and have the opportunity to try to upsell me on additional services. | |Additionally, I had a very small masonry project (replace three brick on our front wall) that I mentioned to the scheduler when I made the appointment. My expectation was that it would be addressed on this visit. The technician who came to my house said he worked on chimneys only and couldn't do the masonry work or even give me a bid. Moreover, he said the project was unlikely to meet their minimum fee. Had the scheduler shared this information when I called, I would have looked for a service provider who could have done both projects in one visit. | |On the brighter side, the chimney cleaning itself was fine and the technician keep the workspace exceptionally clean. | |

Though I clearly stated the style of my fireplace, when the technition arrived I was told it would be twice the price because of the style of the fireplace. | |The guy who came also did an inspection and told me that I had damage that required them to knock down and then rebuild the chimney (assuring me this would be much less expensive than just fixing the damage.) He sent a report with images that I couldn't understand and the total to rebuild for thousands of dollars. | |When I contacted Powers to try to get more information about the report they sent me about the needed work, I at first was talking with an office staff person who had no idea what the pictures where indicating either. Then I asked to speak with the person who came out and when he called back he was a bit surly and not very forthcoming with information. | |I then had two more contractors out, both of whome said there was absolutely no reason to rebuild my chimney and both explained in detail why it was quite fixable for a cost at less than half of what Powers had given me. | |I would not use them and would not recommend their company to anyone. |

Description of Work: The Powers Chimney repairman sent to complete a routine service/cleaning ended up damaging our wood-burning fireplace insert by knocking the flue out of alignment with the insert. After the repairman left, we started a fire and immediately found the house filling with smoke (a problem that had NEVER occurred prior to the service). Upon calling Powers Chimney we were told initially that we would have to schedule a new appointment to fix the damage they caused. After an unpleasant conversation, they finally sent the repairman back to fix the damage he caused. I don't understand why it had to be so difficult to get Powers Chimney to do the job they were paid to do. | |At the end of the day, our wood-burning fireplace insert appears to be functioning cleanly, but it was a frustrating process getting to that point.

Description of Work: The front office did a good job getting everything arranged. The guy who came out was friendly and professional. That being said, he was over 30 minutes late, with no call or message that they would be late. He also tracked mud all over the carpet between the front door and the fireplace, which I had to clean for 20 minutes after he left.
