A week and a half before the move-in date, a worker named Chad called me at 7:30 on a Sat. I only ignored this rude timing because I was distracted by his fumbling, inarticulate, and juvenile manner. He seemed to be trying to establish a time for the move (there is no where to input the exact moving time on the the UHaul/E-move sit), but I had to drag that out of him. Because of his unprofessionalism, I asked to speak with his supervisor and was told none was nearby. Then he tried to tell me that there was a mix-up with the website and that he would need my credit card number again. I told him I had already paid and wouldn't give him this info, and he said "I guess we'll have to cancel, then" and abruptly hung up on me. When I called back, another man answered and told me he was a passenger in Chad's taxicab. Eventually Chad called me back and apologized. He explained he had had a fight with his supervisor, said something that led me to believe he was fired/his hours were cut, and he blatantly admitted that he was attempting to steal this job from his employers to get work he felt entitled to. I asked for his supervisor's name/phone number, and he gave it to me. Though what he did was awful, he wasn't the brightest kid and couldn't have pulled off stealing the job. During weekday business hours, I called his boss Megan and explained what happened. Though she was not nearly as apologetic or shocked as I thought she should have been, she reassured me that Chad would not be my mover and that everything would be ok with my move. I set the time with both her and her manager Rick for 10am at my new apartment on July 2. On July 2nd I am sitting with a loaded Uhaul, a back injury and my aging parents at 10:05 am. I see I had a missed call/voice mail from 9:53 am. It is a mover from Roy's Moving Co. asking if I could reschedule for the next morning at 7 am. I had just driven cross country in a rented UHaul, I had already had one very odd interaction with this company, and I was livid. I called them back and the mover told me that an employee was injured (I don't care if an employee was injured - you find someone to replace him and you show up on time). To make it worse, this moving co. is based about an hour away - if they had a last minute problem, 8 am would have been last minute, not 9:53. And regardless - I had paid for a service at a specific time and even gone out of my way to speak to two supervisors and was expecting a seamless move. I had very limited time off of work to complete my move. There was no way I could have rescheduled it. I asked them to do everything possible to arrive as soon as possible - they told me they couldn't. Meanwhile, the one mover is sitting around his boss' house (Megan and her husband Steve) while Megan showers and refuses to speak to me and her hubby Steve gives me a different excuse saying they couldn't get a vehicle (again, that is the movers problem).
Description of Work: I booked this mover through UHaul/E-Movers - they had received good reviews and were the least expensive option. I pre-paid for moving services one month ahead of my July 2 move-in date. They stood me up. I cannot believe anyone would run a business this way. I explained this frustration in a stern but respectful way, yet they didn't seem to care one bit. They acted as if I was being unreasonable and they didn't want to give me a supervisor to speak to. Eventually, the boss Megan told me through someone else she'd call me back. I waited, and I called her about 8 times but never ever heard from her. In conclusion: Roys provided horrible customer service, appalling communication, a poor excuse for management, and a shockingly awful service interaction. NEVER EVER USE ROY'S MOVERS.
