I hired Barry to move a few large items when I moved in October 2012 without incident. He was punctual, helpful and my furniture was not damaged at all. So when my house sold in March of 2013 I called Barry again. He stated he would arrive at 7am, perhaps earlier (I asked him if he could come at 6am). Moving day arrived. It was 7:20 and no Barry. I called him and got his voicemail. A few minutes later I received a voicemail from him stating he would be there at 8am. I called again and got voicemail. I left a message stating I hoped everything was OK with him, that there was no kind of emergency that was making him an hour late. When he arrived at 8am, I asked him if everything was OK, no family emergency, since he was an hour late and he replied that his moving partner had to take his child to school. No attempt at an apology whatsoever. When I first contacted him I specifically stated I had to be at my closing at 9am. My particleboard desk was the last item loaded on the truck. I was in my car waiting for them to finish and I saw how the desk was loaded (on top of other items, upside down). It appeared that the desk may move in that position so I called Barry over and said, "I know you do this for a living but it that desk going to fall in that position? He replied in a defiant tone, "Look, you either trust me with your stuff or you don't. I can take all of this stuff out of my truck if you don't." He said the desk was leaning back so it wouldn't move. Needless to say I missed my closing. When I was unpacking I noticed the desk had a few small chunks taken out of it and the top had a few scratches on it. My wood table also had a few chunks taken out of it. My filing cabinet had some paint scraped off on of the drawers. He had to go back to my house to get some outdoor equipment and take to another house (within 5 minutes of my old house and 10 minutes away from where he moved me). It would have taken the 2 of them no more than 15-20 minutes to load and unload it. He charged me another hour for that when the total time was closer to half an hour. When I received the bill I called Barry about it. I first asked him how he billed, by the hour, half hour, etc...he raised his voice and said don't start nickel and diming him , that he was the cheapest in town and how he had to drive from one place to the other and he charged me for that. Then I brought up the desk and he started arguing with me that it was particleboard and challenged me when I said I knew it had no damage to it previously. He again stated he was the cheapest in town and not to quibble over his charges. I then pointed out that he was an hour late. He replied about his partner having to take his kid to school. I said I missed my closing because of his lateness. During what I was saying, he kept saying in a raised voice, "Pay me or don't! Pay me or don't!". I was trying to arrive upon a mutually agreed price considering his lateness and the damage to my furniture (I never got around to the other pieces that were damaged). Then he said after I stated all of that, "Don't ever call me again". I said he didn't have to be concerned about that. I have to say this was one of the worst moving experiences I have had and I've moved many times. Barry's customer "service" leaves "everything" to be desired.
