It was very good. They did it quickly. They were in and out. We were putting our house on the market so it needed to be done quickly. Their price was right in within everyone else?s.
Description of Work: They worked on our back patio, leveling it. They repaired some bricks on the front steps of our porch.

They never fixed the damage they did and were twice the price of another provider. Never would consider calling them again. Nice and friendly, but can't keep promises.
Description of Work: Asked for an estimate. They can out and provided one, but ran their truck into the yard leaving a rut. I asked them several times when they would be out to fix and they kept promising soon. Never showed and I had to fix myself.

Wow! Best contracting experience we've ever had! We called Jeff's company on a sunday afternoon, and that evening he returned our call. We described what we desired in replacing our collapsed brick front walk, and he was there the next morning leaving an estimate with a follow up call that afternoon. Price was half of what others had estimated for the same labor/materials. He said he could start that wed, so we contracted his services. His crew were at our house at 7:15 wed morning ready to start! They did a great job laying the concrete base, and returned 7:15 the next day to finish the brickwork. It looks fantastic! The house may crumble someday, but the walk will outlast all of us! They finished the job by completing the drainage canals and installing the 4" hose, cleaning the area and washing the new walkway. I would use them again in a heartbeat!
Description of Work: Removed both cracked/collapsed brick walk and defective concrete underneath. Dug two small drainage ditches to route water from house gutters under walkway onto lawn, poured new concrete (with fiber added) over rebar, and completed brickwork for new front walk. Completed drainage canals with extended 4" hose, and covered. Cleaned up area and removed all garbage.

I could not be more pleased! I met with the owner of Mottern on Tuesday the 21st, and by noon on the 22nd the wall was completed. It is beautiful! The brick color suggested by Mottern blends beautifully with my house and the pathway to the door. The workmen were very professional, meticulous, and courteous. The erection of the little wall required great precision because of the slope. It is perfectly level.
Description of Work: I hired Mottern to build a low brick retaining wall between my lawn and the sidewalk. It would be 83" long and one brick deep. Because of the slope of the yard and sidewalk, it required one to five bricks to make an even heighth.

Jeff and his crew were easy to work with because they were professional, they showed up when promised, they kept the work area clean during the job and upon completion - and most important of all, the quality of the workmanship was excellent.
Description of Work: Mottern Masonry covered our existing cement front porch landing, about 9 steps and our sidewalk with thick blue stone. The masons also flared the sidewalk where it connects to the driveway for athestic appeal.

Our front red brick walkway was very deteriorated and we want to have it repaired. Jeff showed up on time for our appointment on a Saturday. After examining the walkway, Jeff determined it would be more cost effective to have it replaced. Jeff gave us a reasonable estimate and also provided different options. Based on Jeff's suggestions, we decided to replace the red brick with flagstone. Jeff had a job underway in my area and offered a discount if he could start the work within the next couple of days. We agreed and his team started on Tuesday. The work was completed by Thursday. The work is outstanding - the stones are very thick, high-quality grade and are set in very nice pattern on the walkway. Jeff also relayed several loose sections of red brick on the front steps. I am extremely pleased with the work. Jeff is very professional, punctual, and knowledgeable. He is also very nice to speak with. We had a fantastic experience with Jeff and our walkway came out beautiful. We highly recommend him.
Description of Work: Relay entire walkway with square cut Pennsylvania flagstone, also relay loose sections of front step.

I called and asked for an estimate for a concrete slab to put a shed on, and while Jeff Mottern was there he did an estimate for a stamped concrete patio as well. The price he quoted me was really reasonable, so I decided to go ahead and do both projects. When they began work they were surprised to find a concrete slab underneath the old brick patio. It took more than half a day to break up and remove the slab. Despite this unexpected development, the crew still completed the project on time in 100 degree heat. The patio included a 12 ft sitting wall which really involved a lot of skill and attention to detail. The crew started work promptly, were there on time each day, and cleaned up after themselves. Believe me, I have dealt with contractors before who don't do any of that so it is a treat to have people working for you who are respectful of your time and property. The quality of the workmanship was excellent, but I place just as much value on ethics and honesty. I got all three with this company so I couldn't have been happier. My neighbor was also quite happy with their work and is going to have Mottern Masonry put in a new driveway.

The owner came promptly, reviewed our situation, provided advice and estimates, and scheduled the work. He returned with his crew on the day and time scheduled. The work was done on time and as planned. The crew was professional and accommodating. We will gladly use this company again.
Description of Work: Mottern cut out a concrete step at our front door that prevented proper installation of a new front door, replacing it with a brick step. We also had them pour a new concrete basketball court/patio area.

Jeff and his team were amazing. Jeff responded promptly to my inquiry, gave me an estimate on the spot and a start date. He couldn't start on the original date because of weather, but called to explain why and re-scheduled for a dry day. His team showed when they said they would and did a beautiful job of cleaning and reparing the brickwork, it looks like I have new steps! They also did a superb job of cleaning up after their work. I will definitely call them again when it is time to replace the walkway and driveway, and have already recommended them to friends. Professional work at a great price, hard to find in this area!
Description of Work: Mottern masonry powerwashed my brick front steps, then ground out all the old mortar between the bricks on and regrouted. They also powerwashed and made minor repairs on two retaining walls.

We had our concrete front stoop (two landings and stairs) redone with Pennsylvania flagstone. Jeff, the owner, showed up right on time for our appointment Saturday and gave us a very reasonable estimate on the spot. He brought a team that very Thursday and we had a new porch by Friday. The work is fantastic. The stones are thick, high-quality grade and they made a beautiful pattern on our porch. They paid every attention to detail, from redoing the thin strip of concrete under our front door (the other company we contacted refused to do this), to cutting around the porch poles, to adding stones along the slenderest surfaces on the sides of the porch. They refurnished very hard-to-reach places. Jeff was very nice and professional, punctual, and very knowledgeable about his craft. He kept dropping by to see how the work was progressing. His team was also very nice and the person overseeing the team that day even walked my handicapped mother up the hill so she could get a better look at the porch. The whole thing took about 8 hours. Fantastic experience with this company. And porch is BEAUTIFUL!
Description of Work: Refurnished our concrete porch with flagstone. This included a landing (approx 8 ft x 3 ft), 5 stairs, another landing, (4 ft x 4 ft) and two more stairs. They also ripped out our rotting porch railing and hauled it away for us.

This was a wonderful experience!!!! Jeff was prompt and thorough. After my initial call to Mottern Masonry Design, Jeff was prompt to respond and within forty-eight hours he was at our home to give us an estimate. We had thought that we would have to have the decorative wall completely torn down and reconstructed, but Jeff asssured us that there was a cheaper way to fix the problem and that we would be just as happy with it. He easily could have done what so many other companies with less integrity were willing to do which was to demo the wall and leave us with a substantial bill, but he was honest and forthright, saving us a considerable amount of money. His foreman and crew were here the following Friday to begin the job. I could not have asked for a more courteous group of men. Not only were they courteous, they were thorough and kept me informed about everything that would need to be done to repair the walkway and wall. They were at my home for two days. Each day when they left, they cleaned up and explained what needed to be done until their return. When the job was completed, the area around the front of my home was left as clean as it had been when they arrived. The only difference was that they left me with an absolutely beautiful walkway and a repaired decorative wall. About four days later, they returned to remove and stray grout from the dry concrete and once again clean up. Jeff's prices are fair, he is honest, and his work is done in a very professional manner... Mottern Masonry Design is the only company that will do masonry work on my home in the future.
Description of Work: The walkway leading to our home had deteriorated and was hazardous. We also needed to have cracks in a decorative wall repaired. Jeff promptly came out and looked at the problem areas. He clearly discussed our reapir options and thoroughly explained what his company could do to repair/ and or replace the walkway and decorative wall.

The crew worked quickly and professionally. Work had to be interrupted due to rain and i knew exactly when they are coming back. they did a nice job on the front step and then came back to adjust the shape of the top stone per our request. the owner is very pleasant, budget conscious and responsible. wish the workers did not put discarded stones and cement in my trash bin - I had not noticed they did that and of course the trash pickup would not handle it. Otherwise, no complaints. Very good.

It was great working with Jeff in addressing a variety of problems we were facing with our existing masonry and patios, as well as getting his advice on how to bring it all together under our deck, an area that was an eyesore. His team worked very hard and did quality work in repairing our brick stairs in the front, restoring our patio in the back, as well as creating pleasing entryways to the patio from both sides of the house while controlling erosion. He was available to talk to throughout the job, and I recommended his company to my neighbor, who was so impressed by the work he hired them to do their front porch.
Description of Work: Reset two stone patios on crushed gravel with cement mixed in. Replaced cracked stones with new ones. Reused and bought new colonial stone to rebuild an existing wall. Installed new wall at the back corner of house to control erosion. Set 6 steppers along the wall. Installed 3-foot wide brick walkway on crushed gravel base. Installed river jack under deck by the a/c units with edging. Repaired front brick steps. Pressure washed front walkways. Underpinned front stoop with concrete.

It went very well. Mr. Mottern was prompt and his crew was prompt, worked ALL day in the hot sun with barely a break. At the end of the day, they cleaned up and neatly stacked their equipment in preparation to begin again the next day. At the end of the job, they cleaned up everything. They were polite, professional and very hardworking. Mr. Mottern came to inspect at the end of the job and to see if we were happy. WE ARE. We have people driving by the house and looking at the work.

Jeff Mottern came and gave an estimate very quickly. He also said if I got the work done the next week, I could get a better price. I took him up on the offer. To do the job he used some of the stones he was able to save from his demolition of my previous walkway.but he also had to buy others to match the flagstone that was already on the steps and a landing below so he had to go to the same place where they were bought before in order to match them. One issue I did have with the company is that I thought that the stones were going to be cut smaller, more like they were in the original walkway. However, when the workmen started, they said they were not able to do that with the flagstone I had requested so I ended up with bigger pieces than what Jeff and I had discussed. They were also a little more geometrical than I anticipated. However, they do match the landing below even though they don't quite match the free flow cuts of the stones on the steps. As it turned out, it looks fine, and most people think that all of the areas look as if they belong together. I've attached a couple of photos that show his work as well as a step to show how well it matches the steps. There is a little rain on the walkway but I think his workmanship is still apparent.
Description of Work: Mottern removed and replaced a wide flagstone walkway in the front of my house. They also pointed up the stone steps in front of the house. In addition, they power-washed the stone steps as well as the backyard flagstone patio. And even though it wasn't specified in the contract, they also power-washed the driveway and the stone walls on each side of the driveway.

- The workers showed up on time but rang my doorbell early in the morning, waking up my infant, to have me give them the same instructions I had given their boss. The foreman asked if he could dump the fill dirt in my yard. Surprised, I told him no, remove the dirt. I left to go to work. They completed the job on time and my wife gave them a check for about 800 dollars. By paying 800 dollars for such a small job I expected perfection. - I came home to discover that the workers had spread sand between the bricks along the front walk and half-way down the walk to my door. Further, they had cut the bricks right on my grass, leaving a big dead spot right in the middle of my lawn. While the brickwork looked okay it was slightly uneven in spots. - I called their boss, whom I believe is the owner of the company. He showed up promptly. I told him I wanted the sand removed from my bricks and that I was unhappy with the damage to my lawn and the slightly uneven work. He told me that the workers had done me a favor by spreading sand across my bricks and that I was crazy for complaining (yes, he called me crazy). During the next two or three minutes he repeatedly called me crazy and told me I didn't know anything about laying bricks. He also said, "the sand will disappear with the first rain." He did offer to shop-vac up the sand, but at that point I did not want to deal with him anymore. I asked him to leave. - He stormed away and, as a parting gesture, spun his wheels angrily as he drove off. - END RESULT: I have slightly uneven brick, sand all over my walkway (surprisingly, it did not "disappear") and a nice big dead spot on my lawn.
Description of Work: Built a small addition to an existing brick walkway. The addition was about 3.5 feet long and 2.5 feet deep.

Jeff & his crew did everything we wanted them to. They are very skilled masons, polite, cheerful even when they were working in 95 degree heat ,speak english, cleaned everything up and what we really liked was that Jeff has used the same guys for quite a few years. Any question I had was answered and we ended up with a beautiful brick walk. We had four other estimates, some higher, some lower but Jeff was by far the most knowledgeable and after day one I had no reservations about paying a little more for piece of mind. He also followed up during the course of the job to keep me posted as to their timetable and after the job was complete to see if we were completely satisfied. I highly recommend them.
Description of Work: We had an existing 26 yr.concrete front sidewalk that was cracked & sinking in spots. A real eyesore. The concrete was taken out , replaced where needed or built up to a level grade and reinforced. Brick was laid on top of the fixed concrete in a basket weave pattern, put around the sides and top of the front stoop and a new all brick step replaced the sunken concrete one. They also rerouted the drain pipe from the gutter to go under the sidewalk & into the flower bed so as not to erode the new walk or the edge of the driveway.
