Mottern Masonry Design

My townhome is about 20 years old, and many of the bricks on my front stoop were cracking and/or broken and some of the mortar around the doors was also deteriorated. I contacted Mottern for an estimate and they returned my call right away and scheduled the estimate for a Monday morning. However, when they found they had time available the prior Friday, they phoned me back and came on Friday instead. Jeff quickly called me following his visit and provided me estimates, giving me several options. I went with removal of all the surface bricks on the steps as well as the repair work on some other surface areas. Jeff was able to fit the job in for the following week so, based on other great reviews and a desire to get my steps repaired, I accepted Jeff's offer and did not get any other estimates. Though I can't say how their prices compare to other companies, I thought the price was very reasonable for the work done and the quality of the work performed. The new bricks look great and the mortar mix is nearly an exact match to the existing color, very important for my HOA. I was extremely pleased with the finished steps and the professionalism of Jeff and his staff. We made a verbal contract and Jeff's workers showed up on time, were very helpful, very neat, and completed the project quickly. I would definitely hire Mottern again and would highly recommend them to others.

Jeff Mottern and Mottern Masonry were professional from the very beginning to the very end of the job. Jeff provided me with an estimate after visiting my home. Prior to the visit he happily dropped by my home to view the area so as to have all of the details and provide me with an estimate based on the factual dimensions and my requests. The team arrived on time to do the job over several days and left my yard and the area between the homes in a presentable manner so as not to cause any issues with my neighbors or myself. The completion of the job was absolutely as I requested and the columns looked great even WITHOUT the wrought iron rails. In fact, during the 3 week period that it took to manufacture the wrought iron rails the columns were so uniform and so appropriately aligned that it really did not look like an unfinished job. I would certainly recommend Jeff Mottern and Mottern Masonry Design to anyone in our area that wants top notch mansonry consultation, design and implementation. Jeff was always responsive and provided great customer service throughout the process.

Jeff and his team did a first rate job of turning the fireplace in our great room into a showcase. The entire team was professional, did the work as quoted--both within the timeframe agreed upon and the overall price and quote--and, cleaned the entire area prior to wrapping up the job. I could go on and on regarding how beautiful the workmanship is--and, we will enjoy this work of art for years to come.

The whole process was handled very professionally. When I first called to request an estimate, the gentleman on the phone (which I believe was the owner) was very courteous and willing to work around my schedule. Since I couldn't be home at the time of the estimate, they simply conducted their assessment and left the estimate in my mail slot. I was out of town when the work needed to be done, and once again Mottern Masonry was very accommodating. They completed the work while I was on vacation, and when I returned I found the chimney cap looked great and all the lintels filled. Over the phone Mr. Mottern explained that under the front window they found some point work was needed, and completed that at no extra charge (beyond the quoted price). All in all, I found Mottern Masonry provided quality, worry-free, and professional service.

We wanted to remove an exterior door that opened to our driveway, and have the opening covered with brick that matched the surrounding wall. I contacted the company and was able to schedule an initial visit promptly. I found the cost estimate to be reasonable and asked the work to be scheduled and completed rather quickly. A few days later, the crew showed up on time and completed the work in half a day. I am very impressed with the quality of the finished work, the wall looks great! I am also pleased with the initiative that the crew took on their own to repair a few broken bricks by the garage door.

Did a great job matching existing mortar color and repairing damaged areas. Recommended a limited repair over a more extensive rebuild that we were convinced was needed. They were right - results look super. Completed repairs as promised - on time, competently and professionally. We would highly recommend Mottern for any brickwork based on our experience

Working with Jeff and his crew was very positive, and we are happy with the result. We have worked with a number of contractors and Mottern is among the best we have used. Workmanship, price and cleanliness is excellent. The job went according to plan and it included some tricky repairs. Jeff?s team came up with original solutions to the one or two small issues that arose. Jeff arrived when scheduled for the estimate and provided a quick and clearly written plan of what was needed. His team worked the hours projected and finished on time and within the estimated amount. They delivered well beyond expectations. Went perfectly. Jeff came by to do the estimate, which was reasonable to me for the work to be performed (I say reasonable because I did not get any additional estimates). He explained in detail the services to be performed, and I signed the contract. Normally I would get at least two additional estimates, but he described in detail how the work would be performed, and it was the way I wanted, with no corners cut. They removed the old walkway, moved and widen the new walk, laid down at least 6 inches of reinforced concrete, then topped the job with high quality pavers that closely matched the brick porch. The relocating of the walk and the angle of the driveway were expertly handled by the crew with a functional and attractive "angle" where they meet. In addition to the great work, they did a considerable amount of additional labor at no charge. Great company.

Jeff was punctual in coming out to give me an estimate and then scheduled the service and performed the work quickly. the porch looks fantastic. They were punctual, professional, and cleaned up their mess afterwards. I would recommend them.

All the work turned out extremely well, and friends and neighbors are still stopping by to 'ooo' and 'ah'.. -- the replacements and adds to the house & grounds really make things 'pop', and it is quality work and materials that will last 'forever'. Throughout the process the entire team was very responsive, focused on their work, and respectful of the property. They helped us with creative ideas when we needed them, and built things the way we asked. Jeff Mottern is extremely bright and quick with 'the art of the possible' and practical ideas to accomplish objectives. He develops estimates/bids for the work amazingly fast, and schedules his crews efficiently. They do a job from start to finish, rather than 'multiplexing' with multiple jobs at once. The crew working at our house was led by George, and they were very skilled, experienced, hard working, quiet, and focused. Just about as good as it gets. Overall? Quality masonry work ain't cheap! -- but in the end, this outfit delivered the goods, at fair prices, with excellent service and results all along the way.

Jeff and his team were extremely helpful at giving us the advice we needed over the phone and with photos, rather than waiting for an in person inspection. Rather than trying to pitch business, he gave us honest advice and peace of mind to move forward without spending thousands of dollars. Next time we need work done, we'll be going here first.

Everything has held up really well. I went through 15 different contractors and estimates before I went with him. He listened to what I wanted and knew what he was talking about. He did the shapes that I wanted and put the grill where I wanted it. They did a really good job. They did the whole thing and then covered it in heavy Pennsylvania blue stone that is about 2 inches thick. They were here everyday on time until it was finished. The people that worked for him have worked for him for years. They were doing other projects at the same time. He was very busy. His price was kind of in the middle. The price was good for what I got.

Always kept us up-to-date on the timing for this work. Showed up as promised each day. Assured us that the concrete colorant would meet our expectations once dried and sealed. It was and it is fantastic!

Everything went very well. They spent time to make sure it was done right. Quality job. Im very happy.

The team arrived on time and immediately began to address my concrete issues. When the patio slab was removed the team discovered another patio beneath that had been covered over. Mottern Masonry did not charge me extra to remove the second slab. When the basement retaining wall was removed, they discoved that the basement steps were hollow beneath and would require underpinning and additional concrete beyond the estimate to do the work right. I agreed to the additional cost, which was reasonable, to make sure that I would not have the same issue again in the future. The finished product is amazing! Definitely adds value to my property. I appreciate the great professionalism of the crew and their quality workmanship.

Contacted Jeff by email about addressing several masonry-related items. He came by and told me what they did & didn't do, as well as what needed to be done vs. what could be done but would probably be a waste of money (things that would address aesthetic aspects only, and only for a short time). Spent time answering questions and reviewing some of the other stone work done on the house, made me feel comfortable with him & the job. He was very responsive to several of my emailed concerns after we agreed upon the work (e.g. rain, & other random stuff), almost immediately addressing all questions right after I sent them. The work itself was done very professionally & looks very good. All four items were completed to my satisfaction.

prompt, professional - needed scaffalling and board were put down to protect grass/yard. quiet workers who did quality job. also got some education/advice on possiblity of covering up old red brick in interior fireplace.

On March 1 I called Mottern Masonry Design to get an estimate on redoing the mortar in our brick walkways which was looking pretty bad. Since this area gets very little sun, the mold and mildew had pretty much taken over. Within two hours, Jeff Mottern, the owner, had arrived. He suggested power washing with a special tip and then replacing the mortar that was damaged. He said he could do this within two weeks and quoted a price of $910. The job was compleded on March 13. These walkways look brand new!! Not only did the mold, mildew and discoloration disappear, but Mr. Mottern was able to match the color of the mortar even thoug

The work was done extremely well. They performed the work on Saturday, within days of me accepting their estimate. The owner reviewed the work with me and even did some grout work on my deck for no extra charge! I was very happy with the result and would highly recommend them.

Very responsive through inquiry and bid phase, turnaround time from the point work was approved was literally 1-2 days due to an opening in the schedule. Price was in line with competitors, all were lower due to offseason work. While time will tell how the new work holds up, all indicators point to a flawless execution. I like that they were there on time, my job site was not covered with trash and destruction. They did a large amount of demo and used a lot of heavy machinery and the job site appeared to be well maintained. When a company takes the time to clean each day, that shows class and an interest in keeping the buyer comfortable. If that same attention went into the cement, brick and mortar, it should last until long after I am gone. Thanks to Angie's list and Mottern. I will use call them again about other jobs I have in mind.

Great job. Used high quality materials

The owner, Jeff Mottern, came over to do an estimate. He was right on time, and responded promptly and professionally to my very first e-mail. He arrived as promised, on time, introduced himself and walked around the exterior of the house by himself for about 15 minutes. Then he walked around with me; he answered all my questions, provided detailed information about what he would do, and was very clear and specific about pricing. He provided a detailed estimate right away, and broke down exactly what each portion of the job would cost, which was great, as I wasn't sure whether I wanted to do everything at once. I felt very confident about their work, so I ended up having them do the whole works. Jeff is really knowledgeable about all kinds of masonry, the masonry of houses in the area (e.g., how long walls of a certain type usually last, what kind of materials used to be used and how they compare and whether they can match materials available today). He was also sensitive to budget issues and was happy to tell me what he thought was more urgent and what could wait. Because we were doing the work in winter, he was clear that weather delays could impact the scheduled work dates. He kept in touch with me by text (which was really convenient) regarding the progress of the job right before mine. The crew arrived, with Jeff, on time on the date promised. There was a crew chief who oversaw the job who was also professional and diligent and responsive. The workers were polite, professional and diligent. They did very careful, obviously very high quality work. They were organized and neat with their equipment and materials and disposed of all the old bricks and debris themselves. Jeff came by several times during the 2 1/2 days of work to check on things. When the work was done, they removed all materials, cleaned up thoroughly, and asked me to walk around and take a look at everything before they left to make sure it was satisfactory. (It was.) I would very highly recommend this company and had a excellent experience all around. Masonry work is not cheap, but this company's prices were very fair, they were very professional and responsible and they do top-quality work. I will definitely use them again to replace our old patio and to build a stone wall.

The guy who came to give me an estimate on a new walkway was punctual, professional, and knowledgeable. In the end, I hired a different company because I was trying to save some money.

A good experience ? Jeff is an honest forthcoming knowledgeable professional. He visited my mother?s home and investigated the issues thoroughly. Following his examination, he explained to me in person that it was not as bad as I supposed. In addition, he helped me to understand the level of work involved if I decided to call another company or if I decided to do myself. He even briefly advised how to fix myself as well as suggested suppliers/materials I should use for best results. It was not that he didn?t care or that the job was unimportant rather that his company is setup for engaging in larger projects. Thus, their necessary minimum operational charge (reasonable) would, in my case, equate to me overpaying to correct the two concerns I had.
