Mottern Masonry was the first company that was able to do all of the work without having to sub-contract parts of the work out to other companies. Jeff Mottern was very professional and a pleasure to deal with. He promptly returned phone calls and once the repairs began his crew arrived early in the morning and cleaned up after the work was done. I would definitely recommend Mottern Masonry.

The project outcomes met expectations. Workers finished the job in a timely and quality manner.

The weather cooperated, with Jeff and his crew foreman coming the day before the work was to start to mark out the patio. This allowed us to see how the patio would lay out and we were able to do some minor tweaks. The three man crew arrived on time and worked steadily until about 5:00pm, finishing in three days. There was some dust from the sawing but that washed away quickly when it rained after the patio was done. Their work was excellent with even grout lines and a good mix of stone size and color. At the end, the crew cleaned up the area very well. Jeff communicated regularly via short emails. We are very happy with our new patio, and with the professionalism of Mottern Masonry. I would use Mottern again without hesitation.

Jeff replied very quickly to my phone call; he came over within the week to give us an estimate and explain the possibilities for the walkway design. Since I wanted the bricks in the walkway to try to match the bricks on our porch, he even made a special trip over to compare two different types of bricks. His crew were available the following week and worked hard each day so that the walkway was completed in about 4-5 days. The pattern is just as I requested--a type of herringbone--and it .looks very accurate and precise. The retaining walls turned out well, also, and look much better than previously.

We received an estimate from another contractor for repair work on my mom's brick walkway and steps that were damaged/broken off by an ambulance stretcher. The estimate was higher than we anticipated so we contacted Mottern again. I originally contacted them (and provided pictures of the damage), but they thought the repair work would cost less than their minimum. Mottern came out and inspected the walkway and steps and recommended a replacement of the brick considering the amount of loose and broken bricks in the walkway and the age of original installation. They provided my mother two estimates (one for concrete and one for brick), but didn't try to sell her on either option. Both estimates were very fair and the owners grew up in our neighborhood (it's nice to work with 'neighbors'). My mom decided on the brick option and they completed the work in a timely manner, did a fantastic job, and cleaned up after themselves well. They also powerwashed the brick patio in the backyard. The brick work is exceptional and blends in very well with the existing porch that did not need replacement. We would highly recommend this company, not only for their outstanding work, but also their fair pricing as well as how they advise their clients. They are not pushy towards the higher costing option. They provided a detailed written estimate and left the decision up the homeowner. I would definitely use them at my own home for any needed work and I know my mom would use them again in the future, if needed.

This was the second time we have had Mottern Masonry do stone work for us. We would highly recommend them to anyone for masonry work. We called and had a proposal within a day, and work started within three days. Motterm Masonry has dedicated crews that have been with them for years. These guys are EXPERTS. In the planning process, my concerns and ideas were given full attention; even questions in the middle of the process were addressed. I was able to ask for lines to be redrawn and I felt that the design recommendations were spot-on and the result is beautiful. Crews showed up on time each day, worked hard while they were here and cleaned up the site each afternoon before leaving. They were courteous each time we spoke. As the demolition of the old walkway progressed, they discovered the stoop was still in perfect condition. They called their boss, conferred, and he and I decided to leave a perfectly good cement stoop instead of tearing it out and re-pouring it. The owner not only included the stoop in the guarantee with the work done by them, but refunded to us the price of the unused concrete and labor. Talk about HONESTY. After the concrete set, they pieced the flags of thick bluestone in a pleasing and exacting pattern and faced the upright stair riser and exposed side of the stoop with rock. The curves in the walk were meticulously cut and laid. Details such as slope for drainage, even spacing for grout lines and perfect leveling between stones were executed with care. Crafted with EXCELLENCE. Finish work was completed quickly and thoroughly. Grouting between stones and caulking joints where the doorjamb and siding intersected the masonry rounded out the on-time and under-budget front walk. Mottern Masonry upped our curb appeal to AMAZING.

They were responsive and courteous, but they seem to be a company that has zero interest in doing a job that is under 10K. They seem to be very competent at high end solutions but not inclined to repairs, for which they suggested using a handyman.

They did a good job. They did it promptly and got it done.

Mottern and I had trouble communicating. The email exchange was difficult and uneven. I asked a number of questions about the quote and what to expect, particularly with respect to a brick that had cracked. Eventually, they stopped communicating, and I decided to stop pursuing their services. The quote provided by Mottern was 9X more than what I ended up paying.

Design and selection of stone and pattern by Mottern fit the style and overall appearance of our 70 year-old home very well. Mottern crew was very hard-working and worked steadily to complete the work in a timely manner. Crew was professional and personable at all times. Work site was cleaned-up thoroughly immediately following completing of the job. Great work and I would have no problem recommending Mottern Masonry Design to others.

We received an in person estimate very quickly after some conversation over email and by phone to set up a convenient time. We were able to realize some savings by allowing Mottern to choose when the work would start...knowing it would be within the coming month (we were in no rush and they were able to schedule us when it worked best for them). We were told the job would take 3 non-rainy days to complete and they met that timeframe exactly. The team that did the work was led by Salvador and they arrived promptly each day at 7am, working until they'd completed the stage that could be done that day...removing tile from old stoop and pouring concrete for new walkway...laying stone for new stoop...laying stone for new walkway. Jeff also emphasized the value of the thick cut slate that he uses and we can certainly see the difference when compared to some of the other houses nearby that don't have. We are very pleased overall with the job done.
